JUDY CLAY - YOU BUSTED MY MIND (RARE LIVE VIDEO FOOTAGE) FROM THE SWINGIN' TIME SHOW 9/3/1966. (SCEPTER 12157 YEAR 1966) SAYS SHE WAS THEIR SISTER BUT JUDY (BORN JUDITH GRACE GUIONS) WAS RAISED BY HER GRANDMOTHER IN FAYETTEVILLE. WHEN THEY MOVED TO BROOKLYN IN THE EARLY 1950'S SHE WAS TAKEN IN BY LEE DRINKARD WARRICK OF THE DRINKARD SINGERS. FROM THE AGE 14, SHE BECAME A REGULAR PERFORMER WITH THE FAMILY GOSPEL GROUP, WHICH HAD ORIGINALLY BEEN FORMED IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, AROUND 1938, AND WHICH ALSO AT TIMES INCLUDED LEE WARRICK'S SISTER EMILY (LATER KNOWN AS CISSY HOUSTON) AND DAUGHTERS DIONNE AND DELIA (LATER BETTER KNOWN AS DIONNE AND DEE DEE WRWICK). CLAY MADE HER RECORDED DEBUT WITH THE DRINKARD SISTERS (LATER KNOWN AS THE SWEET INSPIRATIONS) ON THEIR 1954 ALBUM - THE NEWPORT SPIRITUAL STARS. SHE LEFT THE DRINKARD SISTERS IN 1960 AND MADE HER FIRST SOLO RECORDING 'MORE THAN YOU KNOW' ON EMBER RECORDS. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY FURTHER SINGLES ON SEVERAL RECORD LABELS, BUT WITH LITTLE COMMERCIAL SUCCESS, ALTHOUGH 'YOU BUSTED MY MIND' LATER BECAME SUCCESSFUL ON THE U.K'S NORTHERN SOUL CLUB CIRCUIT.
