  1. 3 weeks ago, Cleethorpes Weekender, great sets of rare soul dance records, some of them one offs in the UK if not the world! 'kin brilliant rare soul weekender.
  2. Kettering's only about 10 miles further from London than Goodwood, a previous venue, and faster by train I bet. I wonder if that's because the already established retro/vintage "The Way We Were" Festival is on that weekend (July 13 - 15th) just 2 miles away at Wicksteed Park Kettering, one hell of a clash!
  3. Take a look at the bids. It rises to about £200 but finishes at double that due to 2 bidders with relatively low ratings. Dodgy or 2 competitive, keen, new collectors?
  4. I believe that there's a "problem" with the winning JT Parker bid.
  5. There was more soul music recorded/produced/released last week than any person could listen to or collect in any format. This week will be the same, ad infinitum. No wonder the sensible ones stick to a favourite few sounds.
  6. An enjoyable snapshot. Population divided by (90 x 60) = one second per event of aprox 12,000 people.
  7. Flaming hell, I'd pay to watch that!
  8. Tony, Buy me a beer at Cleethorpes and I'll bore you for hours! John
  9. Some of the DJs we might have travelled to hear were not on for long enough or close enough, some were not on at all.
  10. With respect, Terry made a valid and relevant post, mentioning date and price. A bit of thought would have surely rendered the reply unnecessary unless it was meant to provoke a terse reply. If so, well done! John
  11. A year ago, on Ebay, the blue VOLT reissue was a Buy It Now for $30. I think the original on PARADOX has gone for about $600.
  12. martyrs or masochists?
  13. And there was some played that night - In the disco pub 200 yards down the road!
  14. Surely (contemporaneous) OV is OV whether on 45 or LP as opposed to reissues/boots/compilations/greatest hits etc?
  15. Yes Phil. No good for Terry unless it's on 8 track.
  16. Four Voices or Four Tracks? Who, what, where?
  17. Thanks Russ, it must have been hell for you. Family, work, sport and other commitments were more important and enjoyable, (and still are sometimes.)
  18. Phil, Trev -Eeejits! The Irish are "The Blacks of Europe" (The Commitments).
  19. Rob, You told me about the photos, but WOW! Thanks, John
  20. Joan Duvalle/Dovalle scans. Someone has written in pencil "Violins spec." and "Violins" on the labels. Was this an instruction to add the (awful/unnecessary) strings to the Patty Charles version? NB. The "Aundre" spelling. I no longer have a copy of Patty Charles and can't remember her version of "Never Say No". I have just played the Joan Duvalle version and, like the A side, it does not have strings over it. John
  21. The SPORT 45 reads Joan Dovalle, the HOT 45 reads Joan Duvalle. I will put a scan up later. Also I think the label reads Aundre Williams! John
  22. Did you meet his son, John the second and his daughter, April the first?
  23. I understand that one of the Sussex Soul Club djs (Andy?) found one in the states, nice one .
