  1. Here's a pic of Mr. Jones If you click on the picture, you'll get a better view of E. Rodney .
  2. This is really just Rodney talking over the instrumental track of Bobby Treetop's "Wait Til I Get To Know Ya" which is why the tracks were from N.Y.C.
  3. This really is sad! All those incredible productions on Okeh, Brunswick, Dakar, Bashie ...
  4. I can't comment on the commercial logic of this release but, those Radio Station comp. albums were around a lot in the 60's /70's. I've got two from WVON in Chicago and both of the liner notes say that the proceeds from the album sales were going to "distribute Christmas baskets to Chicago's poor". . So they might have been done as fund raisers for charities or just as a promotion for the radio stations.
  5. Bob Babbit's obit was in the Chicago Tribune newspaper today and it said he did the bass line on "Tears Of A Clown" In Terry Wilson's "Tamla Motown", he credits Jamerson with the bass line. The controversy continues .....
  6. According to the liner notes of the "Groovin' At The Go Go" CD (Outtasight) it is the United Four.
  7. If you play the two back to back, I don't know how you could miss the similiarities. There's an interview in There's That Beat (#8) with Jerry Ross who co -wrote "The 81" with Kenny Gamble. He tells how he went to a record hop and saw everyone doing a new dance to "In My Lonely Room"- he asked the kids the name of it- found out it was called "The 81" . He wrote the song the next day with Kenny Gamble and admits to basing it on "In My Lonely Room".
  8. It looks like a boot- Harthon release #'s were in the 100's. This might be a 70's release like the Body Motions "Puttin' You On" / "False Alarm" which has release # of 103074 .
  9. Here's your answer from the lyrics- Bull Moose wants her "right from the start, Because her big, fat legs are so far apart ...."
  10. The 1964 has to do with when the label design came out not the year of release. Mar-V-Lus and One-Der-Ful also have dates on them which have nothing to do with when the 45 came out.
  11. I checked my demo and mine has K-11127-3 for the "I'm Gonna Love You..." side and K-11126-3 for the "My Heart's..." side. The Red A is on the "My Heart's ... " side. There's also a T1 in the dead wax. So- what's the consensus- real or boot ???
  12. If you go on www.45-sleeves.com, they have the yellow Brunswick label in use from #55167- #55250 ( 1960-1963). The Black Brunswick label started in 1963 with #55251. I see a lot more Orange Brunswicks than yellow ones, I also thought your yellow label was a promo.
  13. There is a "Check Yourself" by the Temptations on Miracle- not sure if it's the same song.
  14. Here's one more- John Wesley- "Love Is Such A Funny Thing" - Melic
  15. Here's a few more for the list- Connie Clark- "My Sugar Baby" - there is an unreleased (at the time) version by Frank Wilson Tamala Lewis- "You Won't Say Nothin' " Magnificents- "My Heart Is Calling You" - unreleased ( at the time)) version by the Four Tops Doni Burdick- "Bari Track"- shows up as Jobete even though it's an instrumental version of "I Miss My Baby" by Rose Battiste which is not a Jobete song.
  16. Modern Records seemed to have access to a few non-Motown Jobetes- Mary Love- "You Turned My Bitter Into Sweet" Mary Love- "Hey Stoney Face" Ikettes- "i'm So Thankful"
  17. I'll vote for "Cool Off" .
  18. I think it made its first appearance on the "A Cellarful of Motown" Volume One from 2002.
  19. According to the 2nd edition of Tim Brown's book, the boot has a canary yellow label ( the original is more of a gold color) and the original has an "H" stamped in the dead wax.
  20. Crash #425- Magic Sam- "Out Of Bad Luck" / ????
  21. I'm going to go off on a tangent here but... Does anyone know which version of "I Watched You Slowly..." came out first? The Lou Courtney has writer credits for Lou Pegues ll, the Guyton version credits Randazzo- Pegues- Lambert. Does anyone know why there's a change in credits?
  22. Thanks for posting this Lorraine!
  23. I've got one too- it's a styrene press- probably West Coast ?
  24. Hi Lorraine, Jerry Ragavoy and Norman Mead(e) are the same person. Not sure why one label credits Ragavoy and the other one Mead. Also I agree with you on the Baby Washington version.
  25. I'll cast my vote for Baby Washington.
