  1. Very sad to hear this. One of the greatest groups ever with such a deep catalogue !
  2. Debbie Dean "Why Am I Loving You" is another hard to find V.I.P. .
  3. Isn't there a Gloria and the Relations release on Bonnie ?
  4. Luther Ingram- "If It's All The Same To You Babe"/ "Exus Trek" on H.I.B. ? Larry Clinton- "She's Wanted" Dynamo- this Dynamo wasn't related to the label distributed by Musicor. Can't think of a third one....
  5. Just heard Clarence Burke of Five Stairsteps/ Invisible Man's Band fame passed away yesterday in Georgia. added by site On May 26, 2013, it was reported by Keni Burke on WBLS Sunday Classics that Clarence Burke, Jr.had passed away Biography from Facebook page You can tell a lot about people by the company they keep.... In the case of Clarence Burke, such company has included Curtis Mayfield, George Harrison, Billy Preston, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones and many others. Aside from their status as music legends, these artists share a first-hand knowledge of the immense musical talents of Clarence Burke - vocalist, songwriter, musician and producer. You can tell a lot about people by the company they keep.... Clarence Burke rose to prominence in the mid-1960s as a member of THE FIVE STAIRSTEPS, (later STAIRSTEPS), best know for their Top-Ten single “O-O-H Child”. Released in April 1970, the song has since been an anthem from the ‘70s to the present, appearing in 13 movie soundtracks, TV and radio commercials and serving as a sonic reference for 4 decades. In November 2004, ROLLING STONE magazine included “O-O-H CHILD” on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time. A founding member of THE FIVE STAIRSTEPS, Clarence was also its creative force, principle vocalist, choreographer, guitarist and songwriter. The group’s early R&B hits, including “You’ve Waited Too Long”, “World of Fantasy” and “Danger!, She’s A Stranger”, were released on Curtis Mayfield’s Windy C and Curtom labels. In 1970, (as Stairsteps), the group released the Top 10 hit, “O-O-H Child” and in 1976, their ground-breaking 2ND RESURRECTION LP was on George Harrison’s Dark Horse label. Clarence was also the brain-child behind the INVISIBLE MAN’S BAND, whose 1980 single “All Night Thing” is a dance classic.

  7. Trust me there are more horrible U.S. commercials than this. I was happy they used the song for the ad.
  8. "Beggin' " came out when Phillips was going from the black label to the light blue label. It's an original press but on the newer label style.
  9. The Disco Gold release was #270001- the A side is a 4:13 vocal version of "Dream World", the B side is a 2:36 instrumental version. I'll post a scan of it later today.
  10. It was also released on Scepter's short lived Disco Gold label which was before the RS release.
  11. I've got the 50th Anniversary package and it's not on there.
  12. "She's Wanted " just made it over the 4000 pound mark with 3 days to go. Does anyone else think it'll go over 5000?
  13. It was unreleased until it came out on the first "Cellarful of Motown" CD.
  14. Going a little off topic here but, I've got this on a promo. The label on the flip side has "Featuring: Poogie Hudson" instead of Pookie Hudson. Instead of listing Carter and Hudson as the writers, they have Noble, Campbell,Connolly and Vallee who did write a song named "Goodnight Sweetheart" but this isn't that song. Do all copies have this wrong info on the B side or is it only the promos?
  15. Not sure if this is 100% correct but- here goes. It was originally released on Coed #600 in 1965. The label went out of business that same year. Later released (1969?) as the Love Potion on TCB #1601 and when it started selling again got picked up by Kapp and released as Kapp #979.
  16. Add these to the list- 1) Gloria Jones- "Come Go With Me" - original by the Del-Vikings 2) Ike and Tina Turner- "Dust My Broom" - original by Elmore James 3) Righteous Brothers Band- "Rat Race" - original by Richard Maltby (?) 4) Tony Middleton- "To The Ends Of The Earth" - original by Nat "King" Cole 5) Wynder K. Frogg- "Green Door" - original by Jim Lowe 6) "Wade In The Water" Marlena Shaw/ Ramsey Lewis- old Gospel song, not sure about 1st rendition
  17. Sometime in the early part of this century, I was at a flea market looking at some 45's. The seller said "I have a few more I forgot to put out" and hands me a paper bag with about 50 45's in it. There was nothing really special except for the 2 45's I wanted. I take them to the seller who tells me "And don't think I don't know how much they're worth." So I said ( as calmly as possible) - "Well, how much are they?" The seller thinks about it for awhile and tells me $2.00 each. I told him I would take them and left with a mint minus copy of Art Freeman "Slipping Around With You" and the Honeybees on Garrison in about vg+ condition.
  18. Simon Soussan also lists it in his "Rare Motown & Soul Price Guide" from 1994.
  19. In his book "Cool Gent", Herb "King Of The Dusties" Kent wrote that he came up with the term "dusties" when he worked at WBEE in the late 1950's.
  20. Thanks for posting !
  21. The yellow Cadet labels started in 1971 with #5683 and continued until #5710 in 1975. I would guess if you saw a Marlena Shaw "Wade In The Water" on a yellow Cadet it would be a reissue. So I guess any new release from 5683 onward would be on a yellow label, any lower #'s should be on the blue label.
  22. I was never a big fan of "I Miss My Baby"- it always sounded like the vocal was completely out of synch with the rhythm track.
  23. Finally got my CD today and am listening it for the second time. Really liked the Rose Battiste - 1000% better than "I Miss My Baby", "I Hear Music" by Lorraine, the original version of "I Can't Hold On", and the Willie Kendricks. It's nice to have all the released tracks all on the same CD. The liner notes and all of the pictures were incredible too. Can't wait for volume 2.
  24. There is a picture of the Tamla promo of "I Care About Detroit" is Simon Soussan's "Rare Motown & Soul Price Guide" but I guess you'd have to consider the source.
