  2. Not sure how Jean Plum got on the list. The last release on the label before it got distribution from Cream was Hi #2324- Al Green- "Love And Happiness"/ "Glory, Glory". After that, Cream started a new numbering system that ran from #77501 (O.V. Wright- "Into Something(Can't Shake Lose"/ "Time We Have" ) to 81534 (Ann Peebles- "Mon Belle Amour"/ "Waiting") with the first two digits being the year of release. Jean had another release in this run- Hi #78515- "Pour On The Loving"/ "You Ask Me".
  3. Has anyone ever seen a copy of the True Tones on Musicor? A very popular price guide lists "He's Got The Nerve"/ "Every Man Needs A Woman..." on Musicor #1188. Musicor #1188 is J.B. Troy - "Ain't It The Truth"/ "Every Man Needs a Woman". So ... is the Musicor release a listing error ??
  4. I don't think it was a bootleg label. If you look at the label, this version of "Fine Fine Frame" is "Acapella" where the original version wasn't. I don't know if they remade the original versions or released Acapella versions of the originals.
  5. I've always wondered what the owners were thinking when they chose this name-
  6. You are correct Sir! I believe the label was owned by Joe Brown ?
  7. I think you've got the L.A. based Marc label mixed up with the Chicago based Marc label. Although the Eddie Sull release (#102) falls within the range of the L.A. based label run (# 101- #107 , with #102 being unknown) , compare the logo on the Center Stage release ("Are You There" - Marc #7845) with the Eddie Sull 45 and you'll see they are the same.
  8. A few more- Mi-Val (Mike Valvano) , Dakar (Carl Davis- It was originally Dacar but changed to avoid confusion with Decca), Bashie ( Carl Davis' wife Basheba. That's her on the cover of Ramsey Lewis' "Wade In The Water" album) , Kelli- Arts (Carl Davis's daughter Kelli). Pee Vee (Pancho Villa). Not sure how much involvement he had in Villa Records.
  9. Keith Rylatt's "Groovesville U.S.A." and the liner notes to the "Goin' To A Happening- The Northern Soul Of Richard "Popcorn" Wylie "CD both have Pameline being Popcorn's daughter.
  10. Vee Jay (Vivian Carter, Jimmy Bracken) Tay (Jack Taylor) Bang (Bert Berns, Ahmet and Nesuhi Ertegun, Gerald Wexler) Phi-Dan (Phil Spector, Danny Davis )
  11. A few more- Palmer (Palmer James), MAH'S (Mike A. Hanks) , Anna (Anna Gordy), Ashford (Jack Ashford), Mirwood and Mira (Randy Wood's daughter Mira), Harvey (Fuqua), DaCo (Don Davis, Robert and Hazel Coleman), Dee Gee (Dizzy Gillespie), Chess (Leonard and Phil Chess), Omack (Ollie MacLaughlin), Carla, Karen, Moira (Ollie MacLaughlin's daughters) and Drew (Andrew Mike Terry).
  12. Gordy is obvious. Sue was named after Juggy Jones Mother and Daughter, Okeh (Otto K.E. Heinneman), Wingate (Ed Wingate), Kapp (Dave Kapp), Calla (Nate McCalla), Son-Bert (SONny Sanders, RoBERT Bateman) Mayfield (Curtis Mayfield), A & M (Herb Alpert, Jerry Moss),
  13. Here's a few more- Clara Ward, Tony Middleton, Flamingos, Mickie Champion, April Stevens and Marie Knight.
  14. The Dells, The Coasters, Yvonne Baker.
  15. The "Fugitive From Luv" on Cotique was a reissue of the Blue Cat "Fugitive From Love". There is a longer version on Turbo though.
  16. On the Soulful Kinda Music web site, Date #1631 is missing so maybe there's a typo in Whitburn's book. Date #1631 would be from 1968- not sure where the 12/03/66 and the #47 comes in.
  17. I've seen Date #1531 listed as Strangers In Town- "Inside Out"/ "Society". The Sweet Things' "I'm In A World Of Trouble" is Date #1522 so the number sequence is right where it should be. There's a copy of the Strangers In Town 45 on e-bay- it's described as a "Psych" 45.
  18. Thanks for posting the picture !
  19. Not sure why this happened but it also happened to another Blue Rock 45-#4039- The Fads- "The Problem Is"/ "Just Like A Woman" which was issued as Mercury #72542.
  20. Almost 100% sure it only appeared on the "Greatest Hits" album on Dynamo.
  21. It's interesting on your copy they managed to finally spell the title correctly ("Casanova" instead of "Casonova") then managed to misspell the artists last name and provide the wrong writers credits. Here's a corrected ( and probably later) copy of the single.
  22. The Kent 100 Club single says its a Gator recording which would make it from the early 70's.
  23. Is anyone else having trouble trying to hear the 2149 version? If I try to listen to it here or on you tube, I get an error message saying "This video content from SME, who blocked it in your country on copyright grounds". I (obviously) live in the U.S. and the 2149 version appears on the U.S. promo so why is it "blocked" ??
  24. "Sorry Is A Sorry Word" was on the flip side of "All I Need" on Gordy # 7061.
  25. Even though it was a promo only release (for Detroit Mayor Coleman Young) - it doesn't seem to go for much money- I've never seen a copy sell for over $200 USD. I would think many of the early Tamla releases (Satintones, Nick and the Jaguars, Barrett Strong "Let's Rock" etc.) and the Supremes "I Want A Guy" on Motown #1008, and the Miracles "Bad Girl" on Motown G1/G2 would be much rarer.
