  1. Gordy is obvious. Sue was named after Juggy Jones Mother and Daughter, Okeh (Otto K.E. Heinneman), Wingate (Ed Wingate), Kapp (Dave Kapp), Calla (Nate McCalla), Son-Bert (SONny Sanders, RoBERT Bateman) Mayfield (Curtis Mayfield), A & M (Herb Alpert, Jerry Moss),
  2. Here's a few more- Clara Ward, Tony Middleton, Flamingos, Mickie Champion, April Stevens and Marie Knight.
  3. The Dells, The Coasters, Yvonne Baker.
  4. The "Fugitive From Luv" on Cotique was a reissue of the Blue Cat "Fugitive From Love". There is a longer version on Turbo though.
  5. On the Soulful Kinda Music web site, Date #1631 is missing so maybe there's a typo in Whitburn's book. Date #1631 would be from 1968- not sure where the 12/03/66 and the #47 comes in.
  6. I've seen Date #1531 listed as Strangers In Town- "Inside Out"/ "Society". The Sweet Things' "I'm In A World Of Trouble" is Date #1522 so the number sequence is right where it should be. There's a copy of the Strangers In Town 45 on e-bay- it's described as a "Psych" 45.
  7. Thanks for posting the picture !
  8. Not sure why this happened but it also happened to another Blue Rock 45-#4039- The Fads- "The Problem Is"/ "Just Like A Woman" which was issued as Mercury #72542.
  9. Almost 100% sure it only appeared on the "Greatest Hits" album on Dynamo.
  10. It's interesting on your copy they managed to finally spell the title correctly ("Casanova" instead of "Casonova") then managed to misspell the artists last name and provide the wrong writers credits. Here's a corrected ( and probably later) copy of the single.
  11. The Kent 100 Club single says its a Gator recording which would make it from the early 70's.
  12. Is anyone else having trouble trying to hear the 2149 version? If I try to listen to it here or on you tube, I get an error message saying "This video content from SME, who blocked it in your country on copyright grounds". I (obviously) live in the U.S. and the 2149 version appears on the U.S. promo so why is it "blocked" ??
  13. "Sorry Is A Sorry Word" was on the flip side of "All I Need" on Gordy # 7061.
  14. Even though it was a promo only release (for Detroit Mayor Coleman Young) - it doesn't seem to go for much money- I've never seen a copy sell for over $200 USD. I would think many of the early Tamla releases (Satintones, Nick and the Jaguars, Barrett Strong "Let's Rock" etc.) and the Supremes "I Want A Guy" on Motown #1008, and the Miracles "Bad Girl" on Motown G1/G2 would be much rarer.
  15. A promo in vg condition sold for $128.50 about a month ago.
  16. Pearl was the owner of the Pearltone label. Freddy was her husband Fred Johnson. He co-wrote Maxine Browns' "All In My Mind" along with Leroy Kirkland and Maxine.
  17. According to the liner notes of "The Sue Records Story- The Sound Of Soul" (1994), Pearl was working with her husband's ministry in Arlington, Texas.
  18. It worked for me but.... it only played "Little Baby" .
  19. The Chymes 45 is "Dancing Shoes"/ "I've Lost" on Teako #784. There's also a Ray Pettis 45- "Question and Answer"/ "If I Found A Love" - Teako 4770. There's probably more but their release #'s (4770, 784, 370 and 747) don't seem to have any reason to them so it's hard to tell.
  20. Gladys Knight and the Pips did a great version on their "Feelin' Bluesy" album. The Isleys version of "That's The Way.." was recorded between August 26 and August 30th, 1966. Marvin's version was recorded between Nov. 30th, 1968- Dec. 6, 1968.
  21. Every promo copy of the Du-Ettes on collector's frenzy uses the label design I posted. Also not all M-Pac 45's have a date on them - M-Pac #7201(blue label) - Harold Burrage- "Master Key", M-Pac #7204- Harold Burrage- "I'll Take One" and M-Pac #7210 - "That's A Friend" have no month or year for the copyright date on the label.
  22. Is this a reissue too ??
  23. Some Mar-V -Lus 45's have this for a copyright date ...
  24. That was how the U.S. Philips label looked in the 70's. It was used for reissues and new releases. Here's another one...
