  1. Someone on you tube wanted to be cute and covered up the track as Jesse Davis. The real artist and song is "Look, Hear, Girl" by Jim Nabbie on R.P.I.
  2. Okay- message received.
  3. Here's a great song that sounds just like a Sam and Dave record .
  4. Very sad to hear this. Taking over from David Ruffin was not an easy task but, Dennis did it and kept the group alive and well for years. Another great voice gone !!
  5. Most of what I would have picked are already listed. I think these deserve a mention- 1) Contours- "Just A Little Misunderstanding" 2) Isley Brothers- "This Old Heart Of Mine" 3) Kim Weston- "Take Me In Your Arms" 4) Martha & the Vandellas- "Dancing In The Street" 5) Marvelettes- "I'll Keep Holding On "
  6. I don't think it was a different take- I believe Manship pointed out that the U.K. 45 had a different flip side ( "When You Are Who You Are" ) which he though was better than the U.S. 45 that has "Save The Children" as the B side.
  7. If ABC released its 45's in order, Eddie Bishop was released right around the same time as Ray Charles' "Let's Go Get Stoned"- so early/mid 66 would be a good guess.
  8. As someone who listened to black radio stations in the 60's, I don't remember Bobbie Gentry or Lulu receiving much airplay at all. As far as I can tell, the only Bobbie Gentry 45 that ever hit the Soul charts was "Ode To Billie Joe" which was all over the radio. I think Lulu might have made the Soul charts twice(?) and I'm guessing with "To Sir With Love" or with "Oh Me, Oh My...". If there were more , I stand corrected and learned something today. Also, on the other side- The Pointer Sisters won a Grammy in 1975 for "Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" for "Fairytale". I doubt if anyone considers the Pointer Sisters Country artists. There were lots of records you would never think would make the Soul Charts that received airplay. Legendary Chicago deejay Herb Kent had his "Dusties" show on weekends and while 95% was what you would expect. there were some surprises. These songs were also played- Tommy James and The Shondells- "Crystal Blue Persuasion", Tito Puente- "Ti Mon Bo", Martin Denny- "Quiet Village" among others. These two really surprised me - Frankie Avalon- "Venus" and Percy Faith "Theme From A Summer Place". I guess Blue Eyed Soul is getting to be a confusing term.
  9. Superb Deep Soul from the 70's
  10. Another great vocal from David
  11. This is a Japanese Atlantic sleeve most likely from the late 50's - not sure how rare it is but, it's one that always brings a smile to my face. Everything is going well until they get to Mr. McPhatter.....
  12. I don't think this one was listed before ...
  13. Think this one got overlooked ....
  14. I don't think this was mentioned yet ?

Very sorry to hear this- wrote so many classic tunes !
  20. I just saw the strangest commercial on American tv- it was for legalzoom. It said"this is Frank, this is Frank's record store. Sure - Frank knows his Northern Soul but how to set up a legal limited liability company - not so much". They don't show any Northern 45's, the record playing isn't "Northern" but I think this is the first time I ever heard the words Northern Soul used in an American ad. If anyone wants to see it- its on youtube. Type in legalzoom commerical, and pick "The Story Of Frank".
