  1. I checked my vinyl promo - the Stereo version of "Because..." has 7-387-W1 and what looks like I AM in a triangle in the dead wax. The mono version has 387-W1 and the I AM in a triangle. There are also grooves on the outer edge of the label which would indicate a Capitol pressing. I haven't heard of this being booted. I think not listing the promo was an oversight in the price guide. Hope this helped !
  2. Here's some info about Motown going global from March, 1963 -
  3. I noticed all the black label versions of the song have Zebra/ Glodis as the music publishers and all the gold label versions credit just Zebra. Is there a Gold Bronse label with the 2 publisher credits? Also- where does the version with the address on the label fit in- is this an early pressing or a later one?
  4. Both of their 45's did get reviewed in Cashbox- the 1st is from July 8th, 67, the second from March 9th, 1968 -
  5. I don't think this one's been mentioned before -
  6. The record did chart for a few weeks on Chicago's WVON getting up to #23 in September, 1966
  7. After hearing this at least twice a day for the last 3-4 weeks, this song has really grown on me -
  8. Early single by Betty -
  9. Edna Wright is Darlene Love's younger sister. She was also the lead singer of the Honey Cone. I'm not sure what Northern song you're talking about.
  10. I don't have an opinion one way or the other- there is no wrong or right answer !
  11. Fair enough. What about these 2- is Sandy Wynns considered Northern and Patrice "out and out Motown" ?
  12. Indeed I do !
  13. Okay but what would you do with "This Old Heart Of Mine", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "I Can't Help Myself", "Stoned Love" , "Heaven Must Have Sent You" etc. ?
  14. I think there is quite a blurry line between the Northern Soul and Motown and probably will depend on each member's criteria. Here's one 45 with a Motown song on one side and a Northern Soul song on the other -
  15. Jackey Beavers for me .
  16. Great song with a rare lead vocal from Lawrence Payton. It was released seven years later as a U.K. B side -
  17. Sherlie says that is her on you tube but has commented in the past she can't remember a lot of specific work she did.
  18. There are two sides to every story- if you read online comments from Sherlie Matthews (Shirley Matthews was a Canadian based R & B Singer) , she says she recorded the song in the late 60's. On the other hand, if you read the liner notes to the Kent CD "The Mirwood Soul Story", the single was "released" around the time a certain SS had access to the Mirwood master tapes- they commented it appears to be a new recording .
  19. Here's another variation -
  20. There is a long (33 minute video) on you tube from 2011- "A Day In The Life of King George" that may give you some answers.
  21. Same group, different name. I believe Johnny Bragg was in both
  22. Original version before Johnny Ray
  23. The regular issue copy must be very rare- out of the 15 copies on popsike, all of them are promo's. But, Manship's price guide (6th edition) does give separate prices for issues and promos so he has to know both exist.
  24. Thanks for the info !
