The Cenco label was around a few years before the Ike and Tina album. Here's some info from Cashbox in 1962 and a release from around
that time. While there is no mention of Spry Record Corp., It does appear to be the same label .
The Don't Forget The Motor City web site and the liner notes to "Brenda Holloway - The Motown Anthology" show the
writer of "Suddenly" to be SID Talmadge.
Chris Clark was recommended to the Motown Detroit offices by Hal Davis in 1963 . She worked various office
jobs (receptionist etc.) for a few years before cutting her first single. While she may not have worked with the
West Coast writers/ producers there is a definite West Coast connection.
It is believed that Connie Clark and Chris Clark are not the same person.
Mary's scheduled followup to "My Guy" was Brenda Holloway's "When I'm Gone" which was withdrawn from release.
There are a couple of other tracks (circa 1964) that Smokey wrote that sound like they were written with Mary in mind. Kim
Weston's "Looking For The Right Guy" and Carolyn Crawford's "Until You Came Along" would have worked perfectly with Mary.
