  1. From Record World (July 27,1968) -
  2. Joe Matthews came out in late 1965/ early '66 , the Tempos is from 1968 or 1969.
  3. I'm guessing that "Paris Blues" was originally recorded for Polydor International. The Polydor ad (Cashbox - July 2, 1966) states that Claus recorded his 1st singles for Polydor in the U.S. In the 2nd article, (Cashbox June 11, 1966) it appears that Helios Music ( which published "Paris Blues) was looking to lease their masters to "a host of key labels". So once again, I'm guessing Polydor had international rights to Claus Ogerman productions and they were free to lease them to any company in the U.S.
  4. "Rich Girl" also came out on Green Sea with a different flip side-
  5. According to "Tamla- Motown -The stories behind the U.K. singles", The small pictured sleeves were used in December,1967 until I guess February, 1968 when the olive /brown ones were made.
  6. According to Discogs, Damon Recording Studio was owned by Victor Damon and was based in Kansas City, Missouri -
  7. The only Motown track I can think of with that title is this -
  8. Ralph and his brother Russ were members of the Sunliners who with a few personnel changes morphed into Rare Earth.
  9. I got the same final bid for the Belles.
  10. I don't know of any other groups Sherman was in or is his stage name. He is said to be the younger brother of Robert Nesberry of the Orchids (Parrot). Here's another song he wrote-
  11. Subway Riders "After The Session" , Laura Greene "Moonlight Music In You" , Frankie and The Classicals "What Shall I Do"
  12. Here you go Robb -
  13. Here's a few more Checkerboard Squares- "Double Cookin' " , Magicians - "(Just A Little) Faith and Understanding" or Tandells "Is It Love Baby" Jo Armstead "I Feel An Urge Comin' On" , Jo Armstead and Band- "The Urge Keeps Coming (Dance, Dance, Dance)" Laura Lee "To Win Your Heart" San Remo Strings "Festival Time" Doni Burdick "Bari Track", Rose Battiste "I Miss My Baby" or "This Heart Is Lonely" Luther Ingram - "If It's All The Same To You..." , Luther Ingram Orch. - "Exus Trek"
  14. Just a minor correction. The Inspirations 45 on Jamie came out in 1956 not 1958. Here's a review from the November 24, 1956 issue of Cashbox-
  15. Those two tracks may have been slated for the Silky Hargraves album mentioned at the end of this Record World article (October 4,1967).
  16. There's not much info on the label but I did find these 2 articles _
  17. I can't find any kind of promotion work RPR did for "Lonely Lover" but, the single did get favorable reviews in all 3 of the big Trade Papers (Billboard and Record World August 16,1969 and Cashbox in the August 23rd issue).
  18. I'm about 99% sure Dee Dee's version never came out on vinyl .
  19. Dee Dee cut the original version which is okay but doesn't compare to Doris Troy's version. Doris said she came in and sang over the tracks and changed the lyrics a bit and ended up getting co-writer's credits.
  20. Here's a Record World ad from March, 1966 showing "I'll Do Anything " as an upcoming release. As an aside, Mary Wheeler's "Prove It" is shown as a Parkway 45 instead of Calla.
  21. "Heartaches" was recorded in London and was written by Doris and Englishman Tommy Sanderson. "But I Love Him" is said to have been recorded in 1963 for Atlantic and was unreleased. Since "Heartaches" had already been issued in the U.K. on Atlantic, Cameo-Parkway U.K. decided to use "But I Love Him " as the flip side. All of this information is from the liner notes to the Ace/Kent CD "I'll Do Anything- The Doris Troy Anthology 1960 -1966".
  22. You are 100% correct- I was the one who made the mistake !
