  1. Really sad to hear this especially right after Little Richard's passing. Just saw her on an episode of "Unsung" about a month ago which I think is currently on you tube. R.I.P. Betty !!
  2. R.I.P. Mr. Penniman- the "architect of Rock and Roll"
  3. Not sure about the " this one got almost no airplay on it's initial run..." comment. I remember hearing it a lot on this station and another one (WMPP?) -
  4. Place stamp here The blue Cadet is the original press, the other an early 70's reissue. Having a wonderful time, wish you were here !
  5. I know you're interested in Mary Cantine but, this ad from Cashbox (1962) shows Bill Schwartau and Bob Schwaid did exist -
  6. There's not much to go on with Marty but I did find these 2 items in Cashbox. The Y-R-S ad is from 1968, the Samar info from February, 1966 .
  7. The thing with the Philly Sound in the 70's is once it got popular, just about every label got involved. You can add TSOP and Gold MInd to the list of Philly labels. After that, it's all over the place from Atlantic/ Atco (Spinners, Trammps, Blue Magic), Roulette (Ecstasy, Passion and Pain), Columbia (Philly Devotions), Old Town (Arthur Prysock). And that's just the start. Even Tamla got involved with 2 Eddie Kendricks album ("He's A Friend" and "Up In Smoke").
  8. Sorry to hear about Sweet Pea- really liked his first album especially "Don't Walk Away" and "Dance or Die". RIP Sweet Pea !
  9. I hope you'll accept the word of Robert Pruter. On page 251 of "Chicago Soul", he writes that Don Clay formed the Wise World label in 1967 with Phil Orsi.
  10. Scans and label ownership can be found here - www.discogs.com
  11. I take it that this is the same Sunny Sawyer ? -
  12. Not a big fan of "tailor mades" but, I do like this one -
  13. I believe Don Clay owned Wise World and Phil recorded for that label-
  14. Phil Orsi did work with Billy on another Flash 45 -
  15. Another reason for the label variations is that the 45 took a long time to build. Four months after it peaked in Chicago, it got up to # 5 in Louisville, Kentucky -
  16. Here's a theory about the Vapac credits. When "Shy Guy" first came out, it was independently distributed. When it started selling One-Derful got involved with the distribution and got part of the publishing credits?
  17. Former member of the Antennas, Billy did well with "Mr.Shy" eventually going Top 10 on this Chicago radio station -
  18. From "Where The Action Is " -
  19. Do you mean WLS (Chicago)? That survey is from WILS ( Lansing, MIchigan) .
  20. Sunday also got airplay in St. Louis and a Pop station in Lansing, Michigan -
  21. I could see it getting airplay in Philadelphia (their hometown) but I agree it is strange to have an album cut getting airplay on a Pop station in Trenton, New Jersey. Another question is what in the world is the "Mo Beat" or "Soul-Mo-beat" in the liner notes ??-
  22. It looks like the Alteen version came out in February/ March of 1969 and got some airplay on WNOV (whose logo looks suspiciously like WVON in Chicago)in Milwaukee. It looks like Chess got involved sometime in July of 1969 -
