  1. There was a third Ernie Fields a radio deejay / ventriloquist who worked at WHAT in Philly and moved to WMBM in MIami in 1967. Weirdly enough, the ventriloquist's dummy was named Cockroach. Not sure if if the Cockroach Production credits refer to him on the Demon Hot 45 or it's just a strange coincidence.
  2. I think what the writer was trying to say was "Edward Armstead aka Eddie Hill (born Nov.20,1942 in Mulga, Al. passed away Oct.13, 2019 in Lakewood, Washington, USA)
  3. Jean Shy was born Andria Jean Alexander in Chicago, IL. She did have a local hit as part of Tim and Jean with "Spring Fever" .
  4. Are you sure about the release date? It was reviewed in the April 16th issue of Billboard and I can't find it on any radio station surveys before April of '66.
  5. I did a little research and besides finding out it was probably a late 1965 release, I didn't find anything else. No mention of the 45 in Billboard, Cashbox or Record World, and I couldn't find any info it got airplay on any radio station. So- it was mostly likely a promo only release.
  6. I never said it was a bootleg, I just pointed out it looked like the Rockaway pressing except the credits were reversed. The blue stars ( instead of black) were another difference.
  7. If you go on discogs, it looks close to the Rockaway pressing. What's strange is the stars at the top and bottom of the label look like someone added them in blue ink versus black on the picture below. And the credits on the left side are now the the right side.
  8. Just heard on the news Roy Ayers passed away on March 4th.
  9. In her book "Dreamgirl", Mary writes about going to Chicago with James Jamerson, Joe Hunter, Hank Cosby and the Andantes for session work. She's mentions working with Jerry Butler on "A Teenie Weenie Bit Of Your Love' (aka "Just A Little Bit") and John Lee Hooker on "Boom Boom". The problem with the last one is that there are no backup singers. Is this the song she was thinking of ??
  10. Are you sure this is the same group ??
  11. The info I posted about Jean being Johnny's daughter came from the Kent CD "Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities Volume 5". But with Johnny being born in 1937, that doesn't make much sense timewise. So did Johnny's wife put the song in her daughter's name, was his wife's middle name Jean or did his wife have a child from a previous marriage named Jean? Anyone want to go down the rabbit hole ?
  12. Just wanted to make a minor correction- Barbara was Johnnie's first wife, Jean was his daughter.
  13. I've been following this thread- the name doesn't ring a bell with me though. If I do find anything out, I'll post it.
  14. I didn't find any airplay info for "Wrapped.." but I did find one station who had the B side as a pick hit. I guess whoever typed the survey was so used to seeing the Poets on Sue they didn't notice it was on J-2 -
  15. Thanks for posting. Really looking forward to listening.
  16. Discogs calls it an "unofficial release' from 2006.
  17. From Billboard -November 12, 1966-
  18. It's the other way around with the Hesitations in late '66 ( as the B side to "Soul Superman") and the Cavaliers in early '67 with the two on these surveys at #47 and #49
  19. The earliest mention I can find of the 45 is the review from the June 3, 1967 issue of Cashbox. Hope this helps with your timeline-
  20. That copy was from popsike- I believe from a sale in 2017.
  21. I found this Spanish label release with the writers listed as Covay/Knight/ Otis which seems about right- it does sound like it could have been cut around the time of "Letter Full Of Tears. To be fair,I've also seen the writers listed as Goffin/ King which doesn't sound like one of their songs-

  23. "My World..." was actually released in May of 1967. The Detroit riots happened at least a month later so there really is no correlation between the song and the riots. See #25 on the survey-
  24. "Desiree" was the A side in the U.S., not sure what happened in Australia -
