  4. I see a plan here to bend the dreaded ban! There is an exemption to the smoking ban if it involves a necessary/well known part to an act ie nighters/smoking etc. All off to Stoke with our tabs! Anyway it's one thing tryin' to get the tunes authentic but if ya ain't got at least half of the North Wests' smoking population in the scenes it ain't the real deal!!!! Paul

  9. Usually find the charity do's I go to cheaper entry - there's a thought! Remember my early days on the scene and there was a decent sprinkling of Thalidomide punters (I always reckoned this was coz we were so inclusive and non-judgemental) and it always reminded me how lucky we are.My thoughts haven't changed BRING ON THE CHARITY DO's!!! Paul
  10. Beat me to it! Great choice of finisher which seemed to sum up both the fact the night was over and also respect to the fact we were lucky to have been together.Enjoyed WU a lot. Cory Glover - Little Girl that's the one that does it for me when used as a finisher. Paul
  11. Major flaw in your theory i'm afraid! Yeah they could get contemporaries to do the moves but who the bloody hell is gonna teach 'em how to clap at the right moment! Can't remember how we managed it, so that's a job even beyond the worlds' best choreographers!!!! Paul
  12. Years ago I went into Mcr at about 3.30pm on a Saturday.Dave Whithers had a copy of The Dogs 'Soul Step' for 50.00 - loadsa dosh at the time. I thought sod it it'll break me and left it.Wandered back to the bus stop and worked out that mathematically if I restricted meself to only 17.68 beans on my toast for the next 3 months and feigned near death when the landlord turned up a couple of times it was humanly possible to afford it. Flushed with my positive calculations I legged it back to the stall (it had been 15 mins) It had been SOLD!!!!!! look i'm still sick about it now.A damn frustrating experience this vinyl addiction sometimes. Paul
  13. Not to mention 'The Nugget' himself Steve Davis.Likes his tunes does our Steve
  14. Do you work for the tax office you cheeky sod? Paul
  15. Damn good read.Explains a lot about the culture at the time and leaves you wondering where soul music would have been with or without the 'helping hand' provided by the Italian connection. Oh and by the way that Jackie Wilson was one of the lads!! Paul
  16. Think that one might be a reissue note **REPL** Anyone confirm? Paul
  17. The service booklet from a memorial service for Edwin Starr held at Manchester Cathedral shortly after he passed away. His son came over from the States and it was a wonderful emotional and uplifting service. It felt right that he should have been specifically recognised in Manchester given his contribution to the Northern scene. Paul
  18. Is it just me or does that sax on the current Sharleen Spitari - 'All the times i've cried' tune sound suspiciously like Mr Terry? Hey I know it's pop but that sax couldda been lifted straight from 60's Detroit! Paul
  19. Will dig it out tonight and scan for ya! Never mind the format what a sound - always thought this one from Ric Tic woke Berry Gordy up to the threat on his doorstep! Paul
