From memory reckon the confusion could be the lyrics, seem to recall it starts off with similar lyrics to 'Teacher to the Preacher' i.e. when we were/school/books etc.
Real blast from the past that one but deffo not a group sound.

Covered as Joe Mathews if I remember correctly.
Don't forget The Inserts!

Original UK 1974 Pye 7N.45383 blue label copies of the disc - Nosmo " Goodbye (Nothing To Say) " / " Teenage Love " - were recalled by Pye shortly after the disc had received favourable reception after plays , and relaunched as Nosmo King & The Javells ......
Original copies of the disc are now a rarity ........
Malc Burton
Didn't know it was released on blue Pye.Thought the 1st issue was just "Goodbye" on the Red & Purple format.

The first UK Northern Soul hit dose this mean a tailor made product or just a claimed record by the NS fraternity.
Thought it was a claimed record but PYE had inside people who may have put someone onto it.
Orig copies were like gold dust when it first broke so that indicates it wasn't originally aimed at a particular market (or if it was it was a bad aim!!)
Paul
Looks like we overlapped there.

Well I never!

As a collector of NS could somebody give a sensible answer regarding orig/reissue and also stop dissin Mickey Moonshine - had many a good jig to it!

Not had a chance to check my copy but I'm almost sure it was issued as We not You Can Work It Out.

Gotta be the drums.
A guy who eats stones for breakfast coupled with a drummer on speed now that's the recipe!
Stevie Wonder Nothing's Too Good For My Baby is a good example.

Wonder if the first move they teach you is how to leg it down a set of stairs (safely mind - Health & Safety chaps are everywhere these days) to get to the floor in the first place!!

Now, now, come on - that is utter utter BOLLOCKS about Joe 90 being played at Wigan at the same time as those other two, the first anyone knew of it at all was in 1977 when Dave McCadden mentioned in Soul Time that it had been played locally in Manchester (presumably as a joke) and it was late 78 or even 79 when someone actually did play it at Wigan and then they did that rubbish cover version.
Yup, seem to recall Joe90 was wheeled out in Stockport as a joke by Tim O'Keeffe (RIP) - a highly respected UK collector who was having a pop at the lowering of standards specifically at Wigan. No one was more shocked than Tim when the word came back that someone had actually played it out at Wigan!!Tim would be having a good laugh at the stir he created if he was here!
Just glad to know the same fella who was responsible for the Joe90 joke managed to collect alongside a stunning UK collection, the whole Tamla Motown collection before his untimely passing!

Im probably only echoing Ady's comment but I think Ian has jumped in here without actually taking in what started the unease in the first place.
The original suggested playlist posted was not particularly representative to my mind of Wigan. I guess it was the same for a few on here. All we asked was that it be authentic to the period and if that means Nosmo King then fine. It can't be that hard to look through a few old fanzines to get something together rather than relying on 30 year old personal memories which of course would have filtered out those records that didn't appeal at the time but were nevertheless extremely popular.
This was of course confounded by the reference to material from Duffy etc which if used in the actual Wigan scenes as a soundtrack to the dancing would for some dilute the effect.
OK Keb and others seem to have got involved and sorted that concern. Im pretty sure that Ian,had the Mecca been the setting, would equally have been engaged to get that right.
Secondly it's slightly unsettling to see your own recollections subsumed into this generic view of ALL of us being the same with our talc, overnight bags and badges. If anything I would have thought the NS attracted all types but the film-makers appear to be going for a uniform look accompanied by synchronised dancing.
One of the few dancers who stood out for me was "Malcolm" always down at the front of the stage. He always looked as if he was dancing to the record that was on before the one he was actually dancing to at the time. If Keb wants a challenge....... .
Finally to come on here as Ian has done and engage in puerile comments such as "wanna have sex" doesn't actually contribute much to the debate.
ROD
That's what makes him legendary!!!

I don't think anyone on here is judging anyone, simply expressing ones opionion, either for or against acrobatics. Its called debate, not dictation or judgement, when one takes an opposing view. If he want's to do handstands, cartwheels or pull a rabbit out of a hat while balancing a chair on his nose, fine, but I still have the right to say "I think acrobatics are s**t" just as you have to say "Good on him" Agreed?
I Only ever try this move to Melba Moore - Magic Touch!!!

I've got a lot that some Polish collector must have owned at one time as he's stamped his surname in the run-out. Ztsc. Anyone know him?
ROD
Always thought one of your Polish predecessors had that collection Rod, and it stood for:
Zis Trash Sucks Comrade
It seemed obvious that when you grew up you would carry on the tradition.

Silvetti-Spring Rain
Sounds like it falls into the never to be revived category but I bet this one would hit the mark again with any younger members of the audience.Heard it out about 3 years ago and you know what - it sounded bloody good.Bizarrely it sounded fresh (no I wasn't half hissed!)

And the infamous gem from 'The Small Isle' that storming Irish duo Brooks & Jerry.
'I takes what it's got' (The Direction ones are misprints).
Come on with a name like Brooks O'Dell he's gotta have started off near Clontarf!!!

See your point.I suspect it's more scientific than that in that probably at high decibels the ear picks up a more overall sound which camouflages imperfections.
Not an audioligist but reckon this is the reason why tunes are described as such(probably similar principle to beer goggles!!!)
