  1. PartyTime_PT-1001-A.jpg

Nice to see these two together.

Out of interest, I havn't seen a Showstoppers DEMO on Partytime, only Stock Copies.

I had a BellSound test pressing of this which was overlayed onto a PartyTime label (you could just see it at the edge) but the typed details on the label indicated a Showtime release - so may well not have been demo'd on PartyTime.

steve ...it was cracking up over you....cover version of roy hamilton..tommy s 1st UK Chart hit ..got to no.39 i oct 75....

there was another version of get out much faster played as well...not wakefiled sun..

Think the Get Out was Bob Kuban from an LP

  7. Adding to the --"it could have come out on British"-line-----U.K. Island i believe issued the horrible --Tim Tam and The Turn Ons--"Wait a Minute"(which was originally issued in the states on Detroit,s Palmer label). it was not a U.S.hit ---so why release it in the U.K. ---and why not try later with some other Palmer stuff i.e.--"My world is on Fire"----"I AM Nothing" or The People,s Choice-----i can always dream(Hull City ,in The Premiership---one day!!!!

    Keep on etc.

    Tony C.

There was a bit of a game going on,I believe originated by Pye whereby the US guys said 'this one's a biggun you need the rights to it' when in fact it had done little in the states.I'm led to believe this was in retaliation to UK guys doing the same trick with pseudobeatle soundalikes.

Bet it was fun at the time, and did the average soul collector benefit - and then some!

Think of some of the great ones that got through - and why the myth still exists on some potential UK releases.

  8. Got 2 copies of without a warning by the Amazers, one a light red label with scorpion logo

other is a deep red without scorpion Both on Thomas

not sure which is original any info appreciated

    Steve.

Don't think it has ever been exposed enough to be booted - agree light red first issue.

  9. One point that hasn't been made here is the effect on sales due to DJ policy.

If the same old tunes keep getting played fewer will want to look for the gems lying out there.

Good ol' Dave Evison - regularly he would dust off a forgotten gem and stick with it 'til it got through to the crowd (sometimes too much!!).

So come on DJ's you've got your part to play - how did we get to hear all the tunes we know if they weren't spun out over the years for us.

Any scene thrives on refreshment - no new life = no one chasing that 'new' sound they've heard through the dealers.

Some of the greatest tunes weren't a quick fix on the dancefloor - so if people could do it then no reason why you can't show more perseverance and less ego now.

B side is even better with Mr Terry's unmistakable sax!!!

  16. I suppose if its the numbers of 45s I've got, then its Dee Dee Warwick - she pips Patti Austin on penalties as LPs count as away goals.

Bloke-wise its Big Walt for his range - although Big John Hamilton is never off the decks at the moment.

Groups - The Dells. No argument.

Bear in mind it will be different next week -especially as 'How big is big' has thrown the group decision wide open

Certainly agree with Dee Dee but shows the standard when The Wicked Pickett ain't gorra menshun yet!!!!!
  17. If you look at the 2 lines on the boot they are higher in comparison to the centre of the record, on the original they are central and equal to the centre hole

don't think the thin vinyl bit is right cos i have had thick & thin ones.

Odd one this.I had a copy of the two lined lighter one several years ago and seem to recall it was stamped albeit lightly.

However if you look at the record timing it is 2.01 on this copy and 2.35 on the other 2!!!

  18. Interesting one this. After 30+ years with the tunes I find the instrumentals more refreshing - seems with a vocal you know exactly what's coming but with instrumentals the odd piano tinkling or rogue horn can pop out of the record even now which keeps ya on yer toes!!

One's that do it for me (so many)

    Al De lory Right On

    Earl Wright Thumb A Ride

    San Remo Strings Festival Time

    Mike Post Rhino

George Lemons Orch. Fascinating Girl (hauntingly off key or genius - you choose!!!)

Played San Remo at the weekend and it's obvious how Motown got rattled at Ric Tic's threat to them when you hear sounds like this.
