  1. It's pretty easy to tell by looking at the record label if it's the Numero one, the contrast between the heavy and thin text is much great on the original and the text alignment is different. I almost got taken by one at a record show but some fast work on my cellphone saved me.
  2. Lorraine Chandler - I Can't Hold On / She Don't Want You - RCA 8980, demo/promo, VG-, plays OK with no serious scratches, listen to sound files. Label is a bit dirty, haven't tried cleaning it - $150 + postage from US PM or email buckeyebeat@hotmail.com chandler_hold.mp3 chandler_she.mp3

  13. pretty sure someone in the US - California has them. About 18 months ago a record dealer in Oregon brought one to a record show and says it was 'NOS and unplayed' - not sure how he knew that, and it was the only thing like it that he had, I bought it for a reasonable price and I heard some buzz about a find so I immediately flipped it.

  15. There are numerous huge sellers in the US that people in the rare/Northern soul scene seem to think should cost money. Just the other day on Facebook I saw reference to a Strangeloves record as being 'rare soul'. All the Strangelovers 45s were pressed in quantities of 100,000 or more, I can see an unplayed deadstock copy being worth $5 but that's it. Many people in the US would be happy to give the stuff away (I have), Strangeloves, Winstons "Color Him Father"/"Amen", Castways "Liar Liar", Human Beinz "Nobody But Me", "The Snake", etc, nearly unlimited amounts of decent copies. The posting above about the Precisions "If This is Love" is correct, still 100s of decent playable copies here in the US, an unplayed copy is hard to find but that record must have sold 20,000, maybe as much as 50,000, it was a big seller in several large US cities.
  16. Jay Traynor - Up and Over - ABC 10845, demo. VG+ (EX grade in UK), has a couple marks but was probably unplayed when I got it, just stored without sleeve, plays great. $500 includes standard shipping from US. Paypal only Sound file here https://buckeyebeat.com/records/traynor_up.mp3 PM or email buckeyebeat at hotmail dot com
  17. There must be 300+ records on these labels, I don't know if anyone has ever done a complete run - but at least you said 45s which elimates the 78s. Could you be more specific? You should ask Carl P from Detroit, he has been selling a bunch on ebay.
  18. The cream/yellow label is the common one....the purple one is the sought after one because it has the slower version of "I thought you were mine" on the flip. Last copy sold for around $50 but there's an expensive one that says it is on vinyl instead of styrene.... The ABC issue of this is pretty easy to find here in the US, about a $10 record. AFAIK there's no difference between the cream colored Boola Boola and the ABC 45. https://collectorsfrenzy.com/search?q=natural+four+you+did&search-button=
  19. The map has a problem...... I checked out my home state, Ohio, in the US, and was surprised to see that the map shows 12 members here from the modest sized city of Mansfield, OH about 70 miles SW of Cleveland. Checking their profiles, I see that they were not from Mansfield in Ohio but Mansfield in England! Which makes a lot more sense.... So, something in the program needs to be added to distinguish countries/states/counties, etc. Just about every state in the US has a city named Springfield.....
  20. Thanks, my knowledge of D Town records is pretty slim, other than the records I've come across. Got a Ronnie Love on a red D Town recently that I didn't know about. Sounds pretty good to my ears. Don't think it's a big deal value wise.
  21. Wanted Goldie - Headlines / Goin' Back - UK Immediate, original, demo or issue, with center, in VG+ to Ex or better, thanks. PM or email buckeyebeat@hotmail.com
  22. yeah, there's a few of these in here in the US, including the one I have. Fantastic record on both sides, but it is not favored by the younger US DJ/soul dance scene as it's a little too much of a doowop throwback. I've never heard a copy that has a clear, bright sound, such as their Drew sides. I'm sure that it was recorded at a different (cheaper?) studio than the Drew sides, that's probably part of it
  23. Thanks a lot for sharing this info.... A bit more about Terry Knight. He was from Flint, MI and fronted the group Terry Knight and the Pack who were all from that area. Yes, this the same Flint made (in)famous by Michael Moore and most recently by poisonous drinking water. Anyways, Knight and the band recorded most of their records at Cleveland Recording. The band was really popular in Northern Ohio and performed on the Upbeat show in Cleveland several times. In early-mid 1967 (April 1967 is cited by one source), not long after the release of "I..." and a couple of follow ups, he and the Pack split. It was then that Knight formed the Terry Knight Revue. He contacted Clevelander Tom Baker, a near musical genius who could play numerous instruments, write, arrange, engineer - Baker had worked with Knight on Upbeat and at Cleveland Recording. Knight asked Baker to help put together the Terry Knight Revue, so he asked Lou and a few other locals - the most noted being sax player Ernie Krivda, who was at the beginning of a career as being one of Cleveland's greatest jazz musicians. According to Krivda, the group would travel around to different cities with their core group and would add players as needed. This lasted until late 1967 (I don't know if Lou had bailed earlier) when Knight did a complete 180 degree turn to perform as a solo hippie type busker. During this time, Knight released 2 45s on Cameo Parkway - Lizbeth Peach / Forever and a Day (CP 482) and Come Home Baby / Dirty Lady (CP 495). Dirty Lady was produced and arranged by Baker. I don't have any idea (besides Baker) who was involved in the recordings. Leos Casino had a mostly black audience, but there were a handful of young white Clevelanders who attended and saw the groups. Ernie Krivda (who is white) was one of musicians used by the club. The main band aka the O'Jays backing band during the early-mid 1960s was Jerry Baxter on drums, Russell Evans on guitar, Richard Shann on keyboards. All three are on numerous Cleveland soul and funk records. Baxter, a black albino, spent time in LA (I think he went out there with the O'Jays) as a session drummer. Here's a pic of him, one of the only ones I've seen.... https://photos.cleveland.com/plain-dealer/2015/02/jimmy_baynes_collection_2.html From the same source, Lou with the Bandmasters https://photos.cleveland.com/plain-dealer/2015/02/jimmy_baynes_collection_7.html
  24. Yes, I for Indianapolis, H for Hollywood, R for Rockaway, NJ. So RCA was pressing vinyl on both coasts and middle America.
