  1. Lots of other records on this label
  2. The question should probably read 'best three records on labels that are one-offs'. For most of these, there is no 'label', it's a vanity recording paid for by the artist or a benefactor close to the artist. Mello Souls?
  3. Thanks - I did see those listings but I can't really get an accurate price from them. If anyone out there wants this let me know other wise it looks like I'll be posting it on ebay or dumping it somewhere
  4. I would like some help on the going rate for Billy Preston - Volcano on Contract - Don't see any listings in the past couple years. TIA George
  5. I see.....this is from 1974. No connection to the Gary Glenn record from 8 years earlier. Gary made a record or two in the 1970s but was not using the Soul Set name. Mr. Martin may have remembered the name from years ago and decided to recycle it for this effort. I have some Millage label records from the 1960s.
  6. I did have some notes from my friend about Gary Glenn. They were from Ambridge, PA which is near Pittsburgh but not part of it. GG had three 45s. I don't know who Cleveland Martin and the Soul Sets were but Gary Glenn's bands only released three 45s, one on Co&Ce, one on Cove, and one on Jeree. More greaser than soul. The Soul Set on BB were from Reading, PA.
  7. Norman Seldin and the Soul Set were from New Jersey. Seldin was heavily involved with local music. He ran (co-ran?) the Selsom record label. Clarence Clemons, of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, was a member but I'm not sure for how long or which recordings. They were together in a later band called the Joyful Noyze. Springsteen and his band the Castiles played shows with the Soul Set. Probably the only? time Bruce Springsteen gets talked about in this forum. Regarding the PA bands, I know a old friend of mine from there knows those bands, but I lost touch with him. I remember some UK soul guy asking me about the Soul Set years ago. I guess he had not heard the Norman Seldin group's records previously and assumed they were the same group as on Bi Me and thought he might be on to an unknown NS biggie. Not after hearing the Seldin record, though!
  8. I bought one on ebay 1 1/2 years ago for $350-ish. Has a little loss of high end due to playing with older(?) equipment, but sounds fine when played out. Very happy to get it. I dunno if that was the one for 350 quid. I think that's the only one on ebay (US) in the past 5 years, I was looking..... https://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/300637450807/Jimmie_Raye_45_KKC_Philly_Dog_around_the_world_Northern_Soul
  9. Huh, 1000 45s, that was about 20,000 45s ago for me. Everytime I see a post about record storage like this it makes me wonder what the hell I'm doing. The core of my collection (more like 9,000 45s) is well stored.
  10. Even here in the US the song is getting attention (by a dedicated few, not a mass audience, yet) for being in the Northern Soul movie preview. I'm hoping the movie is released here in the US and has some success, will either make me a big shot for playing it or allow me to ca$h in my copy.....
  11. What is a fair price on Danny Monday?
  12. The copy I saw was being sold from Las Vegas and the seller says he's had it since the 1960s. BIN for $1400. Good luck dealing with the seller, he has junk like 80s Springsteen 45s for $25.
  13. I have a few of these somewhere, they would be M- or close to it. I can't get to them for a couple weeks though. If you're still not sorted by then and don't mind buying from the US, let me know. I picked them up a while back because they 'sounded right' to me. It's on US MGM, not Verve
  14. I had a copy of this record for sale for a year....I don't think it sold. Let me check. I live in the US in case you don't want to deal with that.
  15. I dunno about elsewhere but the Arter Set is a floor packer for me here in the US.
  16. The reason this LP was reissued was for the label. The LPs on this label (30+) have been collected since the 1970s by people into US private rock/garage/psych records. Running the label was a goal of a few collectors. There's other Justice LPs with tracks that have a beach/soul sound but this is the only one with a true soul vocal group. Other than the two songs posted here, the LP is pretty dull IMO. The LP turns up now and then, I think I've seen it in the $200 range. It was more expensive (most all the Justice LPs were) before the reissues from around 10 years ago that exposed most of them as being pretty weak. One exception is the Tempos LP on Justice - one of the best US private press garage LPs.
  17. For sale: Al McCarther - His True Love For You / In This Room - Two Guitars T-900 This is the original with the plain Two Guitars label, horizontal lines, stamped S4KM- 8996 - 1B Super clean, M- with a couple of barely visible lines from moving in the sleeve, plays loud and clean as tested on my Goldring 1006, Label is clean as well with only a very slight wear on the b side label. $520, paypal as gift, postage added (I live in the US) PM or email buckeyebeat@hotmail.com
  18. Sensations - Gonna Step Aside, flip of Demanding Man, might be a better recording on artistic merit.....but lacks the driving dance groove. Didn't find it on Youtube.
  19. For a little more explanation, LAX is the three letter abbreviation used for the main Los Angeles airport. Most every world airport had a unique three letter name which was used for radar tracking to luggage tags. In the US, these three letter codes have passed into slang lexicon for many towns, CLE for Cleveland has been used for many different name variations. I've seem Atlanta called ATL etc.

  21. Huh, I have a M- copy of this in my Ohio garage collection. Now that I listen to it again, it's probably more of a soul record than garage. Really cool record though, hope it goes to a good home.
  22. Funny, "The Snake" was a hit in the US, not a huge hit, bigger in some cities than others. I remember hearing it on the radio back in the late 1960s and early 1970s on occasion, For me it was never anything more than a semi-forgotten oldie and a bit of childhood nostalgia. I will warn you though if you attend soul and scooter/mod nights in the US you are likely to hear it........
  23. Benny Troy (already mentioned) Don Gardner - My baby likes to boogaloo Little Flint - Pain (although other versions are pretty awful, except for the Grassroots) Having heard Don Gardner played by anyone in the US who fancies themselves a 'Soul DJ' a zillion times, I can see how people get sick of 'overplayed oldies'. The other two records are just really irritating.
  24. RCA never made styrene records since they invented the 45 in 1947/8 up to the 1980s when they stopped making 45s (for the most part). They had their own pressing plants that were vinyl only.
  25. The only Camel Walk that matters More Dromedary dorkiness....
