  1. Unreleased 100 Club monster from the Kent archives courtesy of Ady. A record I used to travel 400 miles to hear. Pre internet.
  2. Sharon Jones & Dapkings - Just Dropped In... Original Daptone Unplayed. £40 & pnp Lovemasters - Pushin & Pullin - Jacklyn Ex- £35 & pnp Thanks.
  3. Sam had Share My Love and Lady Sunday carved up. The two best records he ever made.
  4. The clothes are beautiful but much more aligned to Black US late 70's and disco which is really the way they should have run this campaign. I was actually offered the gig but my days of getting commercial cash from soul are long behind me. I've had my share. Like someone else said, Peter Werth vs did the same thing years ago. People will always want to jump on the bandwagon of something which is historically inspirational. We should thank ourselves lucky that this thing we're part of still has the power to be referential in modern society.
  5. George Soule still one of the best Anniversary sides. Tremendously good.
  6. Eloise Scott is simply incredible. Like the better edit of Gloria Ann Taylor.
  7. Four Tops - Almost Drive Me Out Of My Mind. Cost me me a quid the same morning a pretty good DJ played it at Cleethorpes. Sounds a million dollars. Every time.
  8. First record that I came away with from my first Ritz Allnighter was actually 'The Night'. Funny isn't it how those sounds hit you first and stay with you the longest. Though playing records to young people every week I find it's still the same Other notable retrospective mentions from that inaugural niter include Frankie Karl and Yvonne Baker.... the James Bond record.
  9. Most Stax stuff was too uneventful for me. The fact that they chose to shelve possibly the greatest soul record of all time is testament to their 'ear'. However I have two copies of this, just in case.
  10. There are forward thinking clubs up and down the country. Boomerang in Doncaster, Mick's backroom at Quality Of Soul in Nottingham, Inner City Soul, Dave's Spirit in Stoke. And of course the 100 Club in London. Similarly, there are classic, more traditional soul clubs, from Land's End to John o'Groats. I try try not to think in terms of 'Northern Soul' anymore. It's such a hackneyed and obsolete term that covers so many genres that it has effectively rendered itself useless. The Mecca smashed any preconceptions of what Northern Soul should be, followed by Stafford and the 100 Club with Ian Clarke playing new releases in the 80's. Lets all just listen to quality soul shall we? Irrespective of where we listen to it.
  11. Aye, me and the missus would love to hear it. X
  12. It's on George Mahood's Soul People show. Always thought this was the best name ever for a band. Gonna print it on a tshirt.

  16. And if either of your kids in Leeds want to pop down for free one Weds night, just let me know.
  17. Hifi Club, Leeds. Longest running weekly soul club around if I'm not mistaken?
  18. I'm not sure there will be a scene per se, but young people still have a definite passing appreciation to soul music. This is was the teenage crowd dancing to my tunes on Wednesday just gone.
  19. Amazing tune.
  20. The Intruders - Check Yourself -Gamble -VG+ £30 Gladys Knight - Stop And Get A Hold Of Myself - Maxx - VG £25 This has a crack all the way through but is taped on the flip and plays PERFECTLY on the aside. 21. Play it every week. It reminds me of the Shirley and Propellerheads collar in the 90's. Yeah. Can't wait. See you there.
  22. Try the UK version. It's usually a bit cheaper. Got mine for £30. Such a tune. Lights up a dancefloor like paraffin.
