  1. Very interesting this. One of my favorite records. I have a Goldspot one. To me the Goldspot version sound a little less "slick". The GAR one being more polished. In a similar way to the Natual Four - "I though you were mine" - Boola Boola and ABC versions. Personaly, I'd have thought the more polished version came second. I like both and would buy Pete's if I hadn't spent enough this month!! (and last month, and the month before, and.........) Here's a link I came across that lists Ohio Soul. Paul Henry, wasn't he the bloke that played Benny in Crossroads!!

I bought it in the late 70's from Max Millward. The record is vinyl with a thicker, 1 cm bit round the outer edge - a bit like those Marvin Holmes "better keep her" vinyl issue on Brown Door. I called JM about this a few years ago and he said the they were boots. I quite like it as it has that bit of counting in at the start!! Cheers. Kev Bod
  4. Sue Lynne - Don't Pity Me. Family Affair - Love muscle hussle What about Julian Covey - A little bit hurt, and Wynder K Frog - Green Door, were they UK recorded?
  5. Carl Douglas - Serving A Sentance.. John Andrews.....
  6. I also have a white demo that doesn't play either. The slower side is a bit dull but the other side is OK. I do have a demo that has the correct tunes. The matrix on the "proper one" has the smaller font numbers. The mis-press has the larger font number (1005). Obviously quality control had the day off. Curious as to what the mis-press tunes are if anybody knows. Cheers Kev Bod (P.S. I kept the mis-press as it only cost about $3. Would have cost more to return)
  7. No Mick, it's a magazine. Records are the round plastic-y things. That was an oblong paper-y thing (posted at same time as Bearey - great minds....)
  8. Hi John, Bit confused on this one. If the package was marked as "Gift" then what value was used to establish a charge?? When I've received records marked as "gift" there is non value declared Cheers Kev Bod
  9. As I mentioned above, I had to pay a (small) charge for a record which I then returned as it wasn't as described. I didn't look into the possibility of reclaiming the charge but.....I wonder if your could reclaim with an expensive item and the charge is THAT big? Also, if you could, what proof would be needed?
  10. Yes Tim. I think it's VAT. So in theory, using an exchange rate of say £1:$1.55, $600 is £387, therefore the charge would be £65.40. Total £452.40 (I'd want a bloomin' good coat for that!!!!!!!!!!!!)
  11. I don't think they are "obliged" but as Mr SpaceHopper says, more are doing so to protect themselves in the event of a claim. I had this happen once on a £50 record - total charges £18 ....then had to RETURN IT as it was not as described!!
  12. The seller has declared a value on the package of approximately £251. Therefore a charge of 20% on this value is made PLUS the £8 fixed charge. Not nice, hope you got a bargain
  13. I also believe that Pete knows everything.
  14. Strange, but I couldn't see one on popsike (which surprised me and made me think I'm rubbish at searching). However, JM has it listed on his site. £50 for the issue, £40 for the demo, £15 for the CSP. That will give Voodoo an idea of what the re-issue looks like. (p.s. I wouldn't expect to sell you records at the same price as JM. No offence to JM or Voodoo ) https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/search/Artist/MAHAL%252C%2BTAJ/all/1 Cheers Kev Bod
  15. I just happened to come across this youtube item by Gene McDaniels. It's him talking about Compared to What, and a few thoughts from his early days. He also added some other items on his channel. It's quite nice to see him sing 100lb's of Clay to the group of young girls in another clip. Not sure if anyone else interested but I sort of liked the idea that he seemed quite happy with his life in the clip. I was just generally impressed by him!! Always liked Compared to What and in particular, Walk With A Winner. Cheers Kev Bod https://youtu.be/GC6LdIcmDQs
  16. That made me sit up and take notice!! Doesn't sound the same to me but, as Mrs Bod keeps telling me, I am a deaf *$%%!. Out of interest, when did sampling start? I thought it may have started in the 70's. Cheers Kev Bod
  17. Or the Toaster !!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Ahh..Is the one you describe in the "want" the first press? Doesn't seem to be loads about. I thought it was a big hit. Did it get popular on a "soon after" re-release/second issue? Also, which demo's are the first versions?
  19. Yes, there's some sort of blip. Is it different to the issued version? If so, perhaps added on purpose?
  20. Tim Brown has an acetate of this for auction. Just listed. Current bid £200.
  21. Hi Adey, pm me your email and I'll send an mp3. Sort of reminds me of the jangly (spelling!!) guitar in James Brown - Papas got a brand new bag. Then again, I have no taste or ear for any type of quality music. cheers
  22. This the one on Popsike? https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=soul+brothers+sho-biz&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=&x=29&y=8 I have an mp3 of Loverman if needed. Is it getting plays or on the up value wise?? Hope that helps Kev Bod
  23. Thanks Pete. I noticed that your reply to Shelton was less than subtle!! I can just imagine his big silly grin. Cheers Kev Bod
  24. Thanks for sending, here's a PDF for others to read cheers Kev Bod Soul Source record list.pdf
  25. Hi Ian, for some reason I can't seem to add a word doc so I've saved and attached a PDF. PM me your email address if you want the word version. Cheers
