  1. Apologies if I have this all wrong but... What appears to be a Flirtations 70's boot with a stick on label has just sold for £250. Here's the link to the eBay sale and also the popsike link to when it was sold last year for £53 (still too much for a boot) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NORTHERN-SOUL-FLIRTATIONS-STRONGER-THAN-HER-LOVE-45RPM-/253056515524?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=CAds3JbQzmxH%2F9VJDSrU9ZILWbI%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc https://www.popsike.com/THE-FLIRTATIONS-STRONGER-SETTLE-DOWN-FESTIVAL-DJ-COPY/201547031665.html In fairness to the seller, it wasn't described as original and when I asked, they said it could be a 70's boot.
  2. Hi, it finishes on 9th August 2017. Currently £344
  3. John Manship Records Unrivalled access to distinctive vinyl Had trouble copying from the website, so sorry for the delay and poss missing items. Also, no pic's appeared for some reason Barbara Jean & The Lyrics Any Two Can Play / Why Weren't You There A DJ’s dream 45, no matter which side you play on this Detroit delicacy the result is exactly the same.. The writing partnership of Jake Hammond & Johnny Mae Matthews yet again craft a Northern Soul dancer of the highest quality. “Any Two Can Play” which I heard at Newark’s “Feed Your Soul” Sunday chill, resident DJand Detroit aficionado Richard Johnstone play recently, to an appreciative crowded dancefloor. A with the lilting guitar intro, is caught by vocal harmony from the Lyrics. The perfect opening before, a shrill Soul Sister vocal takes to the air. Throughout the tune The Lyrics endow the recording with rich harmonies.. this is top-drawer Northern Soul rarity to drop..but wait! Ernest Burt’s creation whichThelma Lindsey’s recorded for his Magic City outlet, is sitting on the flipside… with the Lyrics once again opening the way for a Soul temptress to follow with a beseeching vocal asking “Why Weren’t You There” Two great sides immense sides back to back… This 45 is totally flawless in every way.. Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 508.00 Willie Tee First Taste Of Hurt / Funky Funky Twist A flawless copy, not a blemish..so hard these days to acquire top-notch Northern Soul in “as good as it gets” condition. Willie Turbinton’s legacy to Northern Soul is a rich vein of pure quality, regularly inflicting frustration, as some of his 45’s are painfully rare! A man ever since his first 45 release in 1962, had a instinctive feel for a fluid Soul flow within his own creations.. Hitting the big time in 1966 with the timeless “Walkin’ Up A One Way Street”, that success was sadly never eclipsed. But boy did he work hard to follow up that whiff of success with a string of Soul pearls to consider.. This is one of those highly coveted Gatur 45s and would be one of the easiest acquisitions from the Gatur catalog; expect rarity is stretched out, with all collectors unwilling to sell such an exquisite tune, that always inflames the dancefloor. Only Allen Toussaint & Wardell Quezergue bettered Willie Tee’s Northern Soul output. Which he thankfully displayed, when he graced the stage at legendary Cleethorpes weekender all those years ago. Much loved, greatly admire, sadly missed, a true standout Soul-man who lives on in the heart’s of all Rare-Soul collectors… Click the soundfle and relive this guy’s wealth of wisdom, passion and poetry… Avoid your “Taste Of Hurt”by not missing this near perfect copy… of brillance Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 351.00 Tommy Youngblood Evil Eve The Los Angeles ruler of R&B kicks ass yet again.. on this near impossible to find YELLOW VINYL neighborhood release. We have only ever seen this rarity for sale ONCE, and this is the first time we have ever had a copy. Even with my deteriorating memory, this startling disc would be unforgettable..with it’s brilliant yellow vinyl and Gold label it’s a real eye-catcher. But this 45 is so much more than just a “Pretty Face” it’s an enraged snarling slab of R&B!! A potential floor-destroyer in the correct hands, with the power to turn a Soul night completely on it’s head.. So unleash the wicked Mr. Youngblood and hear why that Eve… is so evil ! Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 245.00 Celest Hardie You're Gone This 45 needs no words from me to elevate it’s reputation, beyond it’s already high-regard it has enjoyed for the last 4 decades..a record with depth of quality, that prevents you ever growing tired of hearing it. In short …The Greatest female Northern Soul offering to ever emerge from the Bay Area. But if you want to fully appreciate the vocal prowess of Miss Celeste Hardie make sure when the postie knocks on your door, you play the tortured Deep Soul flipside straight after you’ve dance around your kitchen. Soulful dance just don’t come much better than this, the tortured despair on the flip will bring you down to earth. This copy has a couple of wispy surface blemishes, you have to search for on the vinyl… as clean as it gets, and that goes for the labels too. Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 1,162.00 James Lately Love Friends And Money / Tears Running And Falling From My Eyes Chasing Northern Soul Holy-Grails is toughest test of endurance any seroius record collector could ever encounter.. Some are so seldom seem you have to apprehend the Rarest Of The Rare when the opportunity comes along, no matter what price and no matter what condition. In fact condition can in most cases be something to make you wince… but the overriding desire is the ownership.. So what happens when a copy of any Holy-Grail surfaces in near HOLYCONDITION? Not virginal or untouched,or squeaky clean, but a much better example of a record we’ve only encountered before in vg or less? Well before you today is the finest example of this monumental slab of Detroit Northern Soul I’ve seen in memory. Some mild surface blemishes but no scratches or marks that transfer to the stylus, nothing to destroy the sound of this piece of neighborhood magic! Those sprightly strings zip with distilled clarity, the harmony boys in the background purr with silky purity and James Lately’s voice rises and falls with such lucidity, as he states his quest “looking for a woman” to complete his life.. The standout flipside is even cleaner… AT LAST a copy of a NS masterpiece x 2nin cherished condition, allowing you to hear truly sumptuous 60’s Rare Soul from the streets exactly how it was recorded.. A rare chance to own a “Grail” in a condition to admire…compared to the few others I’ve seen. Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 1,414.00 Bobby Bland Bobby Bland Sings Everybody’s favourite R&B artist who’s purring gnarled vocal carried a Soulful elegance drenched in uniqueness. His portrayal of lyrics painted a picture in your head, of his pain, his joy, his defiance, his anger.. the full gamut of emotions he was consummately skilled in transferring to you.. A man at the top of his game, for literally 60 years, after learning trade in Memphis blues areas, well before I was born. Today he is rightly considered a demigod by both Blues & Soul fans alike.. Nobody did it quite like Bobby Blue, as this very elusive 1964 British EPdisplays.. 4 of his best Texas recordings for the year on one disc protected by a unique fully laminated flipback “art” cover. Ain’t Doing To Bad - part 1 Ain’t Doing To Bad - part 2 Black Night Blind Man A real collectors piece from a man who resides deep in our very being.. and always will do. Flawless Labels, perfect cover, vinyl is a whisker off Mint - a couple of wispy hairlines, plays flawless. Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 133.00 Sweet Three That's The Way It Is / Big Lovers Come In Small Packages A double slab of girl-group Northern Soul born from that Philly team of John Madara, David White, Leon Huff, Len Barry & Jimmy “The Wiz” Wisner. Boy these guys in the mid-60’s could do no wrong, already enjoying unprecedented chart success with Len Barry’s string of hits..before he switched camp to RCA. ..whilst also missing chart entries, but creating future Northern Soul timeless classics with the likes of Johnny Caswell, Joey Heatherton, The Formations etc. So enter The Swans who had been building a strong reputation within Philly having already worked with Joe Renzetti & Kenny Gamble. The team decided on a more up to date name christening them the Sweet Three. Their first record was a twee girly flop. This their 2nd. Decca release was a totally different animal. Both sides serving up Philly girl-group Northern Soul in the strongest possible terms. We lead with the Big City Sound “That’s The Way It Is (A Girl’s In Love)” a beautiful sound with essences of the “Barry” sound. Leon Huff on piano, Bobby Gregg on drums, Joe Mack on Bass, Panama Francis banging out the rhythmic percussion at Bell Sound studios New York. What a gathering of talent with Leon Huff taking total charge of the flipside, with the lyrics aimed directly at himself and his diminutive stature. Imagine him standing at the piano banging out the arrangement looking over his should at the Femme-trio with his girls testifying “Big Lovers Often Come In Small Packages” a statement some years later “Prince” validated. Two great sides crafted by a dream-team that would by the end of the decade split to follow solo paths.. This attractive Pink PROMO is utterly flawless! Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 183.00 Miracles You Really Got A Hold On Me / Happy Landing A beyond rare 1962 UK Demo copy. Fabulous clean vinyls, label adorned with that highly coveted silver “A” all housed in the birth sleeve. What a fabulously beautiful thing, which for the UK Tamla Motown disciple this spectacular format is a “Grail” that seldom surfaces. Glistening with 60’s sleeve and label art “Oriole” epitomizes the era, as being the vehicle for Motown’s USA product from 1962 to 1963, with EMItaking up the baton for Motown UK outlet to move to Stateside by 1965 EMIrewarded Motown’s unprecedented chart success with a label of their own.. the rest is history.. Out of all the UK labels Motown enlisted, surely Oriole completely catches the period with exquisite art. The DEMO’s on any of the titles are excruciatingly frustrating to find. Rare in the extreme - act accordingly. Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 143.00 Notations What More Can I Say / Leading Lady As “Low-Rider” sweet Soul fever spreads across Europe and beyond, I’m concerned all these rare independent harmony 45s, may dry up under the demand. Lately the raft of collectors seeking these rarities to play, hear & own this genre has witnessed unprecedented demand outside the USA. Here’s a Chicago sweetener to quench your thirst with. Clifford Curry influenced Soulful stroller benefiting from a mellow lead voice, cradle by seamless vocal-group replies. Giving up a rare level of quality, as all the vocal & the string distill into a whirlpool of Soulful clarity. Flip it over and there’s no escaping the piercing Sweet Soul sound as Te Notation stay in the groove as another “Stepper” hits the air… leaving me unable to chose which side is the best.. A two for the price of one 45, offering exactly harmonies, cradle by strong backing arrangement using real instruments, real emotion to deliver their messages of love.. Validated RARE Sweet Soul at it’s finest Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 139.00 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles I Care About Detroit / Blank The really rare Motown 45s are a constant concern to the Hitsville devotee trying to complete the near impossible full run of Motown vinyl. Not matter how difficult it is, this has not deterred 1000’s from trying. But even why the task nears a possible full set (dream on) there are those horrid condition rarities that need upgrading, the rarities that just never surface in anything better than vg - / writing on label or that dismissive line “warp does not affect play) Here is an astonishing copy of just one such rarity… A 1968 especially commissioned recording words by Jimmy Clark & Jack Combs , sung by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, produced by Al Cleveland & Smokey himself… It’s aim was to put pride back in the City after the devastating spring 1968 riots. This was intended for Radio play, not for commercial sales. This copy I don’t believe had been played until we lifted the beautiful harmonious social statement for you to hear. Whilst your waiting for an Andantes, Nick & The Jaguars or a “Money” 78rpm to surface in your dreams. Capuring pure condition rarities is essential in your collection. Check out the “as new” labels and be assured the vinyl matches that startling label completely. You will not locate a finer copy.. Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 53.00 Elmore James It Hurts Me Too / Bleeding Heart To keep our regular UK SUE collectors happy, here is one of the elusive numbers in stunning condition. Very close to a Mint minus, a couple of feeble sleeve contact hairlines just taking i off that tip-top grade. Both labels a super-clean with no evidence of center-hole spindle intrusions. Besides it’s standout purity the 45 a mood-changing slab of the Blues from one of it’s greatest exponents. Elmore’s trademark groaning vocal decorates this slow-drag of despair. Complimentary piano, exuberant Elmore guitar fusing all three elements into a whirlpool of The Blues! Flip it over and “Bleeding Heart” is every note as good.. Sue 383 from 1965 is one mighty testament to this Hall Of Famer’s work. In the kind of condition that doesn’t present itself very often.. The Sue sleeve is only a replica by the way… Sorry, this item has already been won!The winning bid was £ 35.00 Bid

  5. Trial And Error Featuring Rupert Blaize Thruway On the rise as Soul Sam / Bob Snow currently spin this rarity, that is slowly unfolding into Monster-status!! Rupert Blaize & team ignore all the overwhelming “disco” influences flooding New York in 1976 this gathering conjure up a exquisite blend of Soul/Jazz peppered with Latin influences that also surrounded them. The uplifting jangling arrangement is collared by Rupert Blaize, who’s vocal rasp fits perfectly into the Northern Soul crossover presentation, with skilled musicianship, expressive vocal and a wailing sax, “Thruway” is the best new tune on the block at the moment. It’s a “grower” creeping under your skin, hooking into you, and lifting your spirits. The parts when the lead vocalist’s voice gently cracks on the high notes, goes against the fluid flow of the session but adds a depth of authenticity to this D.I.Y neighborhood production..and the Sax breaks of pure quality, fitting so perfectly into what is happening at the forward thinking Rare Soul events across Europe at the moment.. CLASSY & RARE!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 807.00 Parliaments Heart Trouble / That Was My Girl Does it matter which side you drop the arm on, with this much-loved Detroit vocal group Northern Soul masterpiece.. a record that has everything! The credit listing is a dream-team of the Motor City talent; George Clinton, Sidney Barnes, Joe Hunter, Bert Keyes & Mike Terry, so no wonder these musical-magicians achieve vocal group perfection. Blending a full orchestra arrangement peppered with Mike Terry’s burping Baritone sax, shrill songbirds launch a prolonged “Hearrrrrrt Trrrrrouble” at opportunity, a male bass vocal Doo-wops in the background of a blanket of harmony, whilst the lead voice pleads his lovesick case.. BRILLIANT Flip it over and you’re torn! As a finger-popping delights floats out the speakers.. a mid-tempo stroll into everything that’s good about Detroit 60’s Soul…. a lost art .. as likely to be replicated as a Chippendale cabinet during woodwork class at school… Ownership, will allow you a window into the greatest Soul ever made at any time of your choosing!! Northern Soul? It don’t get much better than this stunner. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 416.00 L. Allen Can We Talk It Over A perennial floor pleaser that has not diminished a jot, in it’s power to delight the dancefloor and frustrate those collectors seeking ownership.. SOLID NORTHERN SOUL! That lone piano intro ringing out signals the “Park Your Drink” “Rush The Floor” experience only witnessed at Northern Soul events; even before Larry Allen gets a word out of his mouth, the floor is congested as that relentless piano fights for elbow room with an off-key organ and the effect is endemic; as Larry just saunters through the lyrics, a weird high-pitched vocal occasionally pops up with the chorus… So decidedly different, the cocktail stirs into an befuddled mix of addiction.. Utterly BRILLIANT in it’s distinctiveness.. This copy is a beauty, vinyl has not a flaw in sight and plays perfect. Both labels are spankers.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 862.00 Blues & Soul No. 22 September 1969 Our data for the last 20 years indicates this is the mos elusive of all the A5 early Blues & Soul magazines - only our 2nd. copy this century… Rare indeed and this example retains a Mint 8 page “ON DISCSUPPLEMENT” insert for the current new releases albums and 45’s. Such an interesting insight how John Abbey viewed for example, Bobby Bland’s new Action release “Honey Child” or Darrell Bank’s “I’ m The One Who Loves You” the supplement also asks “Where Is Chess Going” as their releases slowed down after being a major force in UK Soul vinyl from 1965 to 1968. Soul City Chart, USA Top 50 R&B singles etc.. And that is only the insert supplement… Blues & Soul 22 itself is as riveting as all those that went before it. Featuring black & white artist pictures & bio’s on: Billy Preston; Friends Of Distinction; Drifters + discography more black & white pics of The Temptations, Jerry Butler & David Ruffin plus artist pictures and sadly obituaries for Roy Hamilton; Shorty Long untimely deaths. plus the unmissable Dave Godin column, talking about cancelling his intended Deep Soul label release with Doris Troy, who had just signed for Apple Records and wanted to avoid any misgivings of his intentions behind the release.. all very interesting stuff from our hero. If that wasn’t enough for you to have you diving to the mouse… There’s a spectacular black & white FULL CENTRE PAGE spread of THEDELLS. 22 the best of all the A5 Blues & Soul’s IMHO - this copy is in flawless condition - the supplement is MINT Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 47.00 Invaders The Best Is Yet To Come / Just A Little Understanding It doesn’t not matter which side you drop the needle on this Chicago rarity. Both sides give up strong burping horns the perfect underlay for a impressive James Holvey styled lead vocal, delivering expressive lyrics with a muscular voice. We lead with the punchier “The Best Is Yet To Come” drum rolls, jerking piano prods punctuate the blaring brass arrangement as the “unknown” vocalist gets to work. A slab of elusive Northern Soul with a cult following that has appreciated the Stafford era dancer for decades. Over that time we can count of one hand the number of times we’ve had the pleasure of presenting it for sale. One of those simmering away on the back burner 45s that has never been over presented to the dancers as so few Jocks possess a copy, like all good Northern Soul 45s, it’s reputation glowing from it’s validated obscurity. I hadn’t heard the flipside in an age, and was pleasantly reminded of it’s addictive charm as a mid-pace stroller, benefiting from all the ingredients of the lead side side unfolded. RARE SELDOM SEEN and shimmering with revival potential for the rare &underplayed events. A-side 95% of the vinyl is Mint - the a-side has a light scuff at the beginning that is only cosmetic not transferring to the stylus. Flip side vinyl for the NSstroller has unblemished vinyl… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 233.00 Willie Pickett On The Stage Of Life Vocal / Instrumental Crazy About Crossover… this is rare Crossover Northern Soul at it’s most Soulful. A convincing D.I.Y.project where Willie writes, arranges & produced this serving of homegrown Detroit Soul. Click the soundfile and from the first note you are hoping for a memorable listen, then as soon as Willie Pickett’s vocal takes to the air you can’t wait to hear what 3.45 minutes bring… It brings passion and class together, as the zipping strings melt into a whirlpool of heavenly girl-group choruses, as the imploring vocal solicits your attention and waterboards you under the weight of truly spectacular Soul! My type of sound… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Darrell Banks Open The Door To Your Heart / Our Love A legendary disc…you’ll never feel the need of an upgrade. In astonishing condition, the finest copy I’ve ever seen, with the added bonus of both labels somehow escaping the in-house “black rubber-stamping” of the running time on the labels. Squeaky flawless labels, vinyl with only the faintest of minor hairline revealed under strong light. We doubt we’ll ever see an equal copy at this condition level again. If your seeking the Rarest Of The Rare in the finest possible state; Spy the enticing scans, as if you need reminding, go listen again to one of the greatest offerings to Northern Soul ever committed to vinyl.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 930.00 Georgia Hinton With Little Mack I Play For Keeps / I Need Love R&B DJ’s checkout this rare double delivery of roaring Chicago R&B Northern Soul, that seldom turns up for sale, especially in this clean play perfect condition Georgia Hinton is backed by prolific Chicago blues man Little Mack Simmons who’s famed electrified energy comes through on ever note; as his sassy partner Georgia Hinton-Simmons belts out an uncompromising R&B screamer, with her space piercing voice. A top drawer Bluesy stroller emitting girl-power by the ton. Flip it over, you’ll collide with Little Mack’s potent take on Willie Dixon’s answer to Berry Gordy’s “Money That’s What I Want”. A tweaking of the lyrics from “Money” to “Love” and a familiar tune rings out, featuring some fabulous guitar work, decorated with a shrill girl-group chorus. It actually transcends Motown’s hit, as a better dance recording. A meatier-mover you just can’t help but dance to.. Two great R&B shakers no matter which side you lead with, condition is superior to anything listed this century..just a few mild surface hairlines, not affecting play and two flawless labels.. Killer songs, in impressive condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 69.00 John Lee Hooker The Journey The truly dedicated British Soul vinyl collector’s biggest challenge has always been completing the run of the desirable labels; with fine conditions EP’s being frustratingly difficult to a acquire. The UK Chess series EPs with their attractive covers, sit at the summit of this testing vinyl-quest. Along with UK Vocalion, there is not a more difficult run to complete. Here is a Gold Text 1965 4 track EP in sublime condition complete with an equally unblemished laminated cover, that most reading this review will not own. Only very occasionally coming to market and hardly ever in flawless condition. Gaze at the inviting scans, and ask when was the last copy you saw in perfect condition.. Labels reveal a previously unplayed perfect state with not a sign of spindle entry. Vinyl is unblemished, cover likewise, this is an extreme copy, that’s been cherished and filed only. The chance to own perfection is a rare thing indeed.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 67.00 Verma Lewis You Do I’ve always been drawn to sweet girl vocal enriched by male backing choruses. Add a fanfare a trumpets, an enthusiastic drummer and you’ve got the makings of an uplifting “Niter” sound with all in ingredients that punters take home in their heads, an enslaving ear-worm that just won’t go away.. Is it her voice, is it the backing group, is the keys changes, or those soaring trumpets that make this tune so indelible? Or is it the skill of putting all those components together into a fluid flow of joyous 60’s dance.. Whatever it is, it’s still whirling around in my head, begging for another drop of the stylus… the vinyl is Mint - so I don’t mind if I do.. Go on Verma, turn me on just one more time.. 6. Also, the European issues are (mostly?) the LIVE version which, in my opinion, are not half as good as the STUDIO version on the UK issue.
  7. Sorry if there are some missing, I seem to be having prob's with the website. Patti & The Emblems I'm Gonna Love You A Long Long Time / My Heart's So Full Of You Frank Bendellini & Leroy Lovett had so much faith in this 1966 Philly Girl Group recording that they had two attempts at attracting radio station support. First presenting the PROMO copy with the Big City vocal group production ” My Heart’s So Full Of You” as the lead side, when that side slipped past the radio Jocks unnoticed. This talented pairing rejigged the promotion, switching the blazon “Pink A” to the more upbeat beat sides “I’m Gonna Love You A Long Long Time” Again this great double sider was mostly ignored by media, but still received a release which sold virtually NOTHING.The Black stock copy is so very rare I’ve not had a single example since I found 3 copies grouped together in a Pennsylvanian garage in 1976. This example of an adored Wigan Casino anthem, is the first promo attempt at success, displaying the “Pink A” on the “flipside”. How frustrating it must have been for Frank Bendellini & Leroy Lovett to have such a fine girl-group recording shunned by the local DJ’s, especially as the British Jock were scrambling for ownership the moment it hit those fabled turntables.. An instant Northern Soul hit that has enjoyed a run of over 40 years of Northern Soul esteem.. This PROMO as you can see has two unsullied labels and fine clean vinyl that has not been been fatigued by Northern Soul circuit of turntable love.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 520.00 Supremes Where Did Our Love Go A Motown Stateside Red & White that so very rarely comes to market, and this copy is a beauty! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 171.00 Spellbinders Help Me ( Get Myself Back Together Again) To the delight of the mid-60’s British MOD Van McCoy & Ken Williams inspired by the Motown Sound, produce 60’s Soul dance perfectly. A Twisted Wheel anthem that for two years sat at the top of every DJ’s wants list. Selling virtually nothing upon release, and swiftly deleted was the very scenario the 60’s Niter DJs thrived upon. Playing records to a dance-crowd who were unable to fulfill their desire fort ownership. It only took two years for CBS service that demand with a back to back reissue on their newly launch SOUL dedicated label “Direction” slipping the “Spellbinders” other All Niter hit “Chain Reaction” onto the flip, allowing local jocks to spin two of the most-wanted rarities. This listing of course id the first 1966 press of a record that provided the pace and energy required to lift the club…now considered a timeless classic to that very reason, still receiving requested turntable time more than 50 years after it’s initial release. So to present a copy that has somehow avoided all this adulation, still in near shop fresh condition, is a rare occurrence indeed. For the OCD about condition - we doubt we’ll be able to acquire a more flawless copy… vinyl, labels and sleeve are beautifully clean British release Northern Soul anthems, the value will always hinge onCONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 397.00 James Bounty Prove Yourself A Lady / Life Will Begin Again CLASS OF 1972! A Golden Torch anthem in glorious condition. It does cloud authenticity of this Northern Soul anthem, when “Discogs” correctly lists the original 1967 release file, then someone posts a label scan of the bootleg, then a misguided seller lists their “presumably” repro copy on that file because the scans matched.. No confusion here, be assured before you today is the AUTHENTIC 1967 Promo copy in fine clean condition, just shy of Mint minus, with one tiny light non-audible light scuff. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL crafted by a team of Philly young-guns embarking on their successful careers as writers, producers. Bobby Eli, Jeff Prusan,Ross Matico & Erwin Gripman could have no way of knowing when they took their recently discovered Philly singing talent into the studio, he would unleash such a torrent of enthusiasm into this production it would electrify the dancefloor of Britain’s most respected all-night Soul club 4 years later.. A “Torch” hymn that sent it’s congregation into aerial back-drops, floor-drilling spins, and frantic footwork that Fred Astaire would have marveled at. This inspiring recording emerged in Stoke at dead the right time, as the lust for frantic Soul had reached an all time high. A song that fuel every dancer to their limits, buoyed by amphetamines and the heated atmosphere of a packed-club brimming with eager followers of the Northern Soul Sound! It’s a NS classic that converted droves into a Teen to grave dedication of an underground phenomenon that has now spread all over the world… Click the sound file, and spend a moment imagining how as a working class teenager fed on a works radio diet of Donny Osmond “Puppy Love”, Terry Dactyl & The Dinosaurs- Seaside Shuffle, Lieutenant Pigeon - Mouldy Old Dough felt when entering THE TORCH colliding headlong into James Bounty’s gnarled vocal riding a rollercoaster of rhythms conjured up by Philly’s hopeful-youth.. No wonder Northern Soul is still alive kicking hard after over 50 years of inspiring turntable bombs… Owning the original is the only way, especially a fine clean example Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 393.00 George Johnson & The Mondells Just Because You're You / That's The Kind Of Man I Am Former cover-up - extremely Rare 60’s Philly Soul offering up two opposite Soul genres. Topside George Johnson’s beseeching grainy vocal rides the persuasive dance rhythms of a guitar, whilst distance horns hum away discreetly in the background. Unusual but highly effective support, allowing George’s standout vocal to be clearly heard; as he mood plummets deeper into despair, thinking about an impending journey will take him away from his girl. Exceptionally Soulful, and decidedly different… Flip it over and George Johnson again flexes his vocal-prowess on a Deep Soul masterpiece, with the guitarist dropping the pace to a crawl, George raps the intro… Then WHAM!!! The man shows exactly what he’s all about, the guitar picks morph into a Southern Soul style as George suddenly gives up a “fall to your knees” squeal before serving up an abyss of “Deep Soul”. This is moving as any performance I’ve heard, the musician fall headlong into the imploring mood, knocking out a few drum-rolls, guitar strums to enrich the session.. THIS IS DEEP SOUL!!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 253.00 Brothers Of Soul Hurry Don 't Linger / Can't Get You Off My Mind If like me you’re drawn to the seldom seen label variants presenting one of Soul’s best-loved teams. This Fred Bridges, Richard Knight & Bobby Eaton in the company of Mike Terry will tempt you, especially as the 45 is the really rare condition of flawless Mint -. The Brothers Of Soul were incapable of delivering anything but distilled Soulful excellence when they went to press, this Chicago created pressing does not disappoint as it serves up two exquisitely constructed vocal group tunes. Displaying a cocktail a snarling lead vocal, luxuriously smooth backing, sympathetic horns with an inspired delivery of the chorus that nudges of being a resounding chant but staying inside the boundaries of harmony - PURE GENIUS! Flip it over, for confirmation that “The Brothers Of Soul” were in a class of their own in a city saturated with standout Soul talent, these guys came through as consistently THE BEST.. How sad then that it is only outside the USA that their extreme accomplishments were appreciated.. One of the very best examples of the highly regarded genre of Northern Soul, that has surprising dodged the “bootleg-bullet” through all those years of turntable and collectors adulation, that you would have expected an attempt at a repro, but there is none making this sumblime slab of Northern Soul even more desirable. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 679.00 Marva Whitney Given Up On Love / This Is My Quest The Queen of Kansas City Soul given Chicago assistance! Very few true Soul Divas over the decades brandished a glass shattering vocal so controlled as Marva’s. No vocal-Olympics with this lady, unlike the 80’s and 90’s “Divas” Martha saw no need to take her naturally potent vocal to it’s limits and turn it into an annoying screech.. this lady seamlessly ratcheted up the power whilst retaining consummate purity in for voice.. Without question one of the extreme vocals of the last century..and here is her most elusive 45, offering not one but two sides showcasing her quaking presence.. We lead with the B-side a Fuzz Guitar drench FUNK wailer delivered with attitude and defiance, as she gives up on love.. all her experienced garnered at King, floods the session as the mighty indomitable singing subdues the backing in a silky dance rhythm.. Flip it over for the A-side a Soulful stroller begging for a Sunday Chill-Out drop A conversation stopper of the strongest kind, a testament to this lady’s unparalleled control of the lyrics, listen how Marva drops her vocal to an abyss of a whisper then effortlessly raises up into a tsunami of determination.. Listen one of the greatest of all-time, at the top of her game, on ironically her hard to snare 45’s.. Play perfect vinyl condition has hardly a blemish, but do check out the labels scans, lead side is flawless. Flipside label has light water stain and flake at the edge of the label top right (it’s only flaw) Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 65.00 Julien Covey A Little Bit Hurt UK 1967 FIRST PRESS in impossible condition still birth-sleeve. Note this is not the 1970 release with the white “I” logo, note the left hand side Red, Black & Pink logo denotes 1967, whilst the “Palm Tree Logo” press is 1978. It seems all releases are hugely sought after, this 1967 release is never witnessed in such astonishing unblemished perfection. It is after all one of the most played Club Classics of it’s time and indeed all-time! Guaranteed to receive rapturous responses when ever played even now - it’s crowd pumping rhythms igniting euphoria every time. The hardest part of collecting the timeless classics, the imperatives of the Oldies DJ box is condition… condition at this level only surfaces from cherished British collectors who have never DJ’d.. CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION! How often can you quote that line on this record.. ? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 177.00 James Carr You Got My Mind Messed Up RARE 1967 Stateside British press All time-served-dedicated cratediggers can recall all their memorable finds, no matter much time passes… Those memories just never fade, the thrill of a find is what keeps you hooked; like weeks and weeks on a riverbank fishing, only to be rewarded with a few tiddlers. Then suddenly your reel screams away on the clutch, your rod bends double, your heart lifts up into your throat and pounds away, until your catch is safely in the net.. Vinyl for me triggers the exact same affect, I can remember big Tench I caught as a 11 year old. I can remember snagging a James Carr LP on Stateside as a 21 year old digging in Kettering with the fun duo of Wilkie &Rug ferreting around a corner junk shop. This was an equivalent of a big 7lb tench on a Cambridgeshire Fen with my Dad talking me through the thrill.. and my Mum almost knocking the picnic basket into the water in sheer panic, as the fish’s shovel shaped fins broke surface. My James Carr find was decades ago, I can remember the shop, the feeling as I walk out on the street with it firmly held under my arms.. I’ve never since that day, found a UK James Carr LP in the “wild”. I’ve also not caught another 7lb Tench…I don’t expect to either. One of, if not THE greatest real-Soul albums ever made in it’s rarest form. The vinyl has a few sparse hairlines under strong light, plays beautiful clean.. Laminated cover has a some creasing a corner tip bumps, but no discernible flaws to detract from it’s beauty.. Rare encounters that stay in your mind… End price £101. Little Richard Get Down With It So in-demand and NO USA RELEASE as a 45. For this favoured Northern Soul dance floor hit, presented here as a 1967 Spanish vinyl press complete with the eye-catching picture cover. Richard Penniman takes another outrageous Soul singers creation, stamping his very own personality on Bobby Marchan’s 1964 original. Visionary Northern Soul DJ Nev Wherry did feature this 45 in his fabled British dominated Cleethorpes Winter Garden sets of the late 70s. But a bemused audience back then, never quite took it into their hearts. .. in contrast, more recent times “Get Down With It” has straddled the NSgenres from R&B into Northern Soul mainstream; today considered a huge impact record, a floor-rescuer for the DJ as Little Richard transfers all his energy to room.. The picture sleeve capturing the very being of this provocative performer… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 82.00
  8. Bottom & Company Gonna Find A True Love / You're My Life Time to relish Soiul magnificence. Here’s a beautifully clean copy of one of the very greatest 70s soulful dance 45s ever made, pre-disco and dripping with the quality that only great teams can create. Step forward Muscle Shoals trained Terry Woodford (aka Clayton Ivey) with another great song to add to his already impressive discography teaming up with another familiar name Jimmy Helms and grafting brilliance with the prolific Mike Lewis crafting the impressive arrangement, for the rare Soul followers to drool over.. Amazingly this gem, started as a flipside, which makes it even more challenging to land, as the promo “You’re My Life” does not carry the magnificent flip. Having said that you can hear why at the time “You’re My Life” was preferred to lead with, it is also is a darn fine dance tune in it’s own right.. But falling short of the uplifting dancer on the flip, which in recent times has disappeared from view, demand is rising on the back revitalized DJ spins, I’ve heard this beauty a few times recently, the dancefloor appreciation was huge, the bar-leaning chin stroking older folk (me) just lapping up it’s second lease of life.. Top-quality will always rise up again, a replay that is perched to go bigger than ever before…an AWESOME 45 that like good red wine, it has been enhanced by being laid down for a time… Click the soundfile to savor… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 361.00 Patti Austin Take Away The Pain Stain / Take Your Time an unbelievable 1966 South African tri-centre press INSANELY RARE!!! and in sublime condition! What really matters to a dedicated vinyl-collector is to elevate his collection to the highest possible degree, by securing those records that so rarely come to market, the window of opportunity for ownership maybe just a once in a lifetime fleeting chance. Some Northern Soul classics can be art of startling beauty, quality and stunning rarity. Before you today is a showstopper to be proud of, an eminent timeless classic of the highest order that on any of its 60’s original imprints is a record to be treasured within your collection…but a tri-center South African press takes NS original archiving to the summit of possibilities. With there never being any U.K. 45 releases of Patti’s highly regarded teenage sessions with Henry Jerome in New York any variations on the USACoral 45s are considered fundamental goals to attempt to reach. This copy is in glorious condition, some fine faint surface hairlines only revealed under strong light, original tri-centre fully intact, brandishing two unique unblemished labels. A breathtaking testament to a young lady who provided not one, but s string of 45s that wowed the youth of Northern Soul during the 70s, this title being considered the Jewel-In-The-Crown… Listen to the two sides that arrowed Patti Austin into the hearts of The all-niter congregation, embedded there for over 40 years… Wishing to own top-NS-classics in their Beyond-Rare attire … it don’t get any more satisfying than this. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 562.00 Primitive Sister Africa / You Are Everything To Me Unlike the very few other copies of this South Carolina indie that have surfaced this century, this example does not have edge warps or vg- gouged vinyl. Before you is a clean copy, that if angled under light reveals a few hairlines none of which register on the stylus on the A-side. The gentler flipside an occasional tick but nothing to divert you ears. So now the condition is confirmed as beautiful by comparison we need to introduce this slab of Charleston FUNK n’ SWEET! An inventive fusion of Psyche, Jazz & Funk; Norman Whitfield inspired maybe but within the Wah-Wah, blasting-Brass and vocal chants, the recording carries some standout moments of pure genius; setting this session apart from anything that has gone before it. In the 3:15 of this potent dancer there’s a instrumental break, that stopped me typing, fantastic meltdown of guitar picking, burping horn, then a trumpet intrusion of the finest quality, elevating the tune to new heights… Having said all that, i adore the mellow flipside, a gentle vocal-group trip introducing different leads cradled by the rest of groups harmony choruses. A superlative Soulful love testament of the sweetest kind.. Inspired Funk backed with as Sweet Soul trip of real strength.. LOVE IT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Velvelettes Needle In A Haystack / Should I Tell Them The autumn of 2006 was the last time this iconic Twisted Wheel anthem adorned these pages as a 1964 British Red & White DEMO. We all knew the words off by heart, as “Doodle lang, Doodle Lang” rang out in every “Youth Club” nationwide on a Friday night.. one of the motivational signposts the journey defining our musical direction and nailing many of us to a lifetime of searching for that neck tingling sensation we all felt as soon as we entered the club and Motown resounded around the room… Motown and Soul were the only things, as a 15 year, that had the power to divert my mind away from French Kissing, double hook bra’s and fantasies about the gorgeousness of our new Geography teacher’s legs.. Motown was the cure for everything… back then. So welcome back you beautiful Red & White, the sight of you always catapults me back to those wonder years, that nurtured my musical taste.. Remember.. finding a “Good Thing Girl..” like this elusive Red & White Demo is akin to…”Finding A Needle In A Haystack..” an 11 year absence from these pages underlines that age-old saying.. This copy has fine clean vinyl, housed in a birth sleeve. A small mild rub scar just above the title on the A-side (see scan), light faded name on the centerpiece on the flipside are this offerings only pimples on this face of vinyl-artistry. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 168.00 Chain Reaction Search For Tomorrow / Say Yeah Horns and guitar riffs dominate the intro until a congregation of male vocals glide into your ears on a mission to make you dance. That mission is never in doubt, as the two brothers Harold & Silver Sargent guide Chain Reaction the same way they guided “Hot Ice” through another fine Blue Wave Studios production. From the first note to the last, this energy drenched session promotes “dance” by blending Soulful vocal into a Funk infused production. Hidden on the flipside of a Funky Kool And The Gang inspired session, is a little less “obvious” gem..that has featured across Europe on the rare soul clubs for quite some time.. an initial handful suppled just the right amount of DJ’s for the disc to become very in-demand and sought after as plays blossomed.. Today it’s a record that is not so easy to acquire, brimming with potential for another ceiling to be lifted, we got a feeling this tune still has another life to go.. This copy is in sublime just off Mint condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 570.00 Natural Four Hanging On To A Lie / Twelve Months Of The Year This great gatherings rarest 45 and ironically their finest offering to Northern Soul. Their Oakland, California based mentor Willie Hoskin’s guides the “Four” through a searing slab of late 60s harmony dance; crafting fluid, potent, precision Northern Soul from his most accomplished team. A highly coveted record that has never had the compliment of being reissued, counterfeited or bootlegged, even though it’s standing within Rare-Soul circles would have made it the perfect candidate for a spot of parasitical prophet, but gold coloured label are notoriously difficult to replicate, so it’s pure unsullied status as a summital collector piece remains stronger than ever. This rare piece as you can see has two squeaky clean labels, and play perfect vinyl to match, just a few fine sleeve contact hairlines reveal themselves when angled under strong light… plays flawless. A finer copy we’ve not encountered in many, many years .. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 448.00 Marvellettes I'll Keep Holding On Unique Motown Grail, recorded 22nd of April 1965 cut onto a 10” Hitsville studio acetate the next day 23rd April; released nearly two weeks later 11th. May in Motown’s golden year of 1965. This was the dawning of one of the greatest Motown gifts to Northern Soul, from the desk of Ivy Jo Hunter & William “Mickey” Stevenson came the compelling music sheet for Norman Whitfield to craft into the perfect mid-60’s Soul dance recording. , This acetate captures the AY-VX-L-134312 2:22 seconds session, whilst the Tamla release on 45 was a marginally different take AY-VX-R-134321 at 2:27 seconds long, which in comparison there is no obvious contrast between the two. How could you improve on this girl group masterpiece? Norman Whitfield hey left the body of this recording virtually untouched from studio to pressing plant… But for Motown disciples it is ever so slightly different… Scheduled for a LP release that never happened, see “Picked From LP” office scribbling top right hand side of the label… the label makes such interesting reading, with (L.T.H.) - Lawrence T. Horn renowned Motown mixer being asked to finish the session off. Historic in the extreme, a porthole in the happenings at the heart of making Motown music spring 1965… In contrast to those rather yawn inducing “Gold Discs” so often captured in the backdrop of some Record Executive’s office interview, this 10” acetate is a conversation triggering framer whilst still being imperative for those DJ’s who want to turn heads.. with an exclusive play. The disc itself suffers a little from over 50 years in storage, mild “misting” on the surface, a few very light marks.. listen to the soundfile lifted directly of this archival jaw-dropper… then ogle the scan Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 286.00 Arin Demain Silent Treatment Created May 1966 in Los Angeles, not discovered by Northern Soul until 1977 in Pittsburgh. It went on to featured as one of the famous “Last Record” of the set, a down-beat mood changer. The DJ “joke” at the time was to play something slow (but good) to leave the next Jock with an empty dancefloor to play to. Just like the “Paris Blues” scenario, “Silent Treatment” was soon gathering a small following of dancefloor shufflers that within a month had swelled to a cram-jammed full floor. Then the search was on, every DJ wanted to spin it, every collector dreamed of owning it… I personally never ever did find another copy whilst diggin’. Over the next 40 years, only a very occasional copy would break surface, a scramble for ownership would be triggered. Today this record for me is the “King” of that “last record” in your set choice, and of course today the Beat Ballad Heaven sound has an enviable congregation of followers. Now perfect for any part of your set, as the dance-pace has slowed, with quality dictating the DJ’s choice. A top-drawer 45 with a proven rarity pedigree, that is more suited for today’s scene than 1977 Cleethorpes… but so few own a copy it is rarely heard.. to me it sounds fresh, evoking euphoric recall of those halcyon days when legendary DJ “Poke” would deliver a gruff mumble “Thanks, For An Empty Dance-floor Again, Manship…” He was only able to say that, for just a few weeks though.. This copy has fabulously clean vinyls, flawless A-side label, tiny sticker removal scar left hand side middle of the flipside label (see scan) for its only flaw. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,522.00 Little Archie I Need You / I Am A Carpet Listen ad Weep This 45 has everything going for it, answering “Yes” to every question your mind triggers, with an affirmative Yes Rare?… It most certainly is..one of the most challenging UK Atlantic’s to apprehend. Is it good ? I consider this record beyond “good” .. everything the man from Huntington, West Virginia was involved with is a superior slab of Soul. Check out the a-side for heart-piercing Deep Soul, with Archie Himmon’s extraordinary vocal cradled by considerate horns that whine and moan in timely sympathy with Archie’s declaration of love. So what about the flipside? … as you’d expect from the inspiration behind The Parliaments - This Is My Rainy Day, Magnificent 7 - Never Will I (make My Baby Cry) this man is no stranger to cutting edge self created Soul. A pleasing Funky edged Northern Soul dancer await you.. What’s The condition? - the condition could not be finer, vinyl I cannot locate even the smallest blemished no matter how hard I look. The label is adorned with the coveted pre-release Poydor promo date stamp -6 SEP 1968.. still retains original wavy-top birth-sleeve (see scan) This is a listing aimed at those who are truly dedicated to collecting British release 60’s Soul in unsurpassed condition; and of course for those of you who appreciate standout real-deal Soul.. The A-side being one of the most magnificent 60’s Soul ballads ever committed to vinyl..Little Archie was unfortunately unknown both sides of the ocean, sales in the USA never happened and in the UK the 45 did even worse. Left, like so many wondrous recordings to be discovered years after it’s deletion becoming not only one of UK Atlantic’s Rarest Of The Rare, but also arguably the finest Deep Soul 45 to be released in the UK. Perfection, is so many ways, awaits the new owner.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 68.00 Tempos A Little Togetherness / Beginning Of The End Before you today is the near “impossible” FIRST and DIFFERENT mix of this NS anthem credited to the TEMPOS Matrix details for this TEMPOS initial press is 67-C-506A - RE Matrix details for corrected 2nd mix press for the YOUNGHEARTS JC 67C-506A - RE - 1 Both releases carry the sale Monarch pressing Delta # 64811 just in case you were wondering.. DJ’s do you want to swivel a few heads, cause as ripple of “Look at that!!” mumblings as the turntable cams project this stunning label vista onto the big screen … the fabled “A Little Togetherness” credited to THE TEMPOS with subtle but noticeable differences in their make-up Without reservation one of the rarest variations of all the Northern Soul anthems.. and boy this is an ANTHEM!! Condition is blinding! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 712.00 Arthur Alexander You Better Move On If you collect British release albums you will not need me to tell you just what an iconic platter this 1962 original is.. Vinyl is absolutely unblemished and the coveted MINT grade was tempting to give, but this album has been played by a very meticulous previous owner perhaps only a handful of times. Labels are likewise flawless, only faint spindle trail or two near the hole, this jewel is housed of course in it’s birth poly-lined inner. (see scans) The cover front and back are free of any discerning flaws, such as splits, crease, tears, writing etc. (see scan) Back cover reveals mild age-browning (see scan) The music we’ve selected a sample of this great man’s work, the man who’s hits cemented the financial base for Muscle Shoals to emerge as one of the most prolific and respected recording studios on the planet. So listen to the man who influenced so many emerging British bands in the 60’s.. We doubt we’ll ever encounter a finer copy. Sorry, this item has already been won! 9. Sounds odd, but that name has been raised before, not sure of the outcome.. Another thread, not saying any connection..
  10. I really must pay more attention, particularly to my own records! I've just checked and my "Somebody.." demo is the single sided one. However, while the label is just blank white, it actually plays "Somebody.." on both sides. I also have the Pink Issue. The numbers are Stamped on the Issue and Hand-Written on the demo. As mentioned previously above, different credits. Jobette is on my issue and TM Parmailer on the demo
  11. I've never come across a single sided demo. I'd be interested to see one if possible.Do you have one? Is the label layout any different? Are they vinyl or styrene? Cheers. KB
  12. Same here. But I don't think is was in the usual JM spotless condition. The one on Tim Brown's auction that finished today went for more and was in similar condition. Last line of the description "a chance to own a rare disc at an affordable price"! On the other hand, I think the Limitations went for a top price.
  13. Here's this week's results.... Limitations I'm Lonely I'm Troubled / My Baby What and intro to this high octane Northern Soul roadster is laying shoe-sole skid-marks on Northern Soul dance-floors throughout Britain at the moment. Rattling drum-rolls, bongos, plucky Wah- Wah guitar, steer the relentless vocal-group mover, enriched by urgent but still tight silky harmonies. This is real-deal Northern Soul in the true classic style, full of all the ingredients for spins, back drop and synchronized hand claps.. the bollocks!! Vinyl and labels are flawless, check out the crisp soundfile.. The flipside is just as highly regarded as the a-side for Sweet Soul fans, but note there is a lone hairline scratch on the intro that clicks.. for the first few revolutions. A shame as the A-side is a Manship-Mint as is the flip except for this one mark.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 813.00 Spider Turner I've Get Myself Together (before I Lose My Mind / We do try and pride ourselves on the consistent fine condition of our listings - but occasionally we give a green light, to records in lesser conditions if fidelity is strong and clear, and of course if it’s a DJ box essential. This Detroit dancer is one such essential, as demand from the dancers and collection has rocketed in more recent times. Vinyl has multiple hairlines, nothing deep nothing causing distracting clicks or distortion (check the sound-file lifted directly off the copy. There is a minuscule surface flake at the very edge of the run-in on the A-side that does NOT transfer to the B-side. The B-side of course is another stand-out Detroit dancer, the surface on the flipside is at least a grade higher and plays Excellent. One highly in demand Double helping from the Motor City guaranteed to give your set and the night a lift.. And perhaps the chance to own a Rare disc at an affordable price! The winning bid was £ 511.00 Detroit Spinners I'll Always Love You / Tomorrow May Never Come Looking for clean TMG’s - they ain’t getting any easier to find Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Five Stars Baby, Baby / Blabbermouth This week’s Rare Motown collectable, is a flawless 1961 Columbia Promo copy of a record documenting the beginnings of Berry Gordy writing producing career which incorporates two Five Star members, that would later form the basis of The Originals, with Walter Gaines & C. P. Spencer. Top side is an imaginative harmony stroller highlighting tight vocal rebounds, seamlessly fitting each other crafting harmony of the highest calibre. First issued on New York’s End label which Gordy became disaffected with royalty payment cheques, being so uneconomical he had one George Goldner “End” cheque was allegedly framed and hung on his wall, as motivation to sharpen his competitive edge each morning as he looked at it. This Columbia PROMO is in such fabulously clean condition we thought, with the history, anecdotes, and quality harmony this was a listing to interesting several areas of rare 45 collecting.. Flip it over a Berry & Gwen Gordy steer the group down a “Coasters” inspired production, with a quirky nod to David Seville and His Chipmunks at the intro, underlining Gordy’s ear for current trend and his skill to be able to hook into it.. Five Stars became the “Voicemasters” on Anna, before laying a couple of brick into foundations of my favorite Motown group “The Originals” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 34.00 Constellations I Don't Know About You If anyone ask me “come on play me a record that showcases the very best of Northern Soul to you” I’d have to play my unconverted friend this 45. As for me being terribly biased towards the vocal-group Northern Soul productions, this tune is the “dogs” From the very first syllable of those soaring vocals.Oh and then the deep-as-you-like it Bass vocal burbles a few words.. and I’m hooked, tied and totally enamored to this sound, that continues to rise in it’s glorious arrangement into a masterpiece of the genre.. Whether a NS-music-infidel would actually experience the same feelings as me as the song plays out, is rather doubtful. As shivers, pulse quickening rushes, neck-tingling are possibly emotions reserved for those disciples who have spent a lifetime devoted to Soul music… THIS IS A TUNE A tune you may secure at an afford price, as although both labels are totally the vinyl has surface marks visually vg. Plays better so listen carefully to the full sound file provided. Oh I almost forgot in my unbridled enthusiasm… It is of course, one of the BIGGEST most popular Northern Soul 45s, that a DJ could possibly drop.. to trigger the wildebeast dancefloor stampede.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 962.00 Little Anthony Burns Do Right Man / Try Me Darling RAREST OF THE RARE Deep Soul ! Both sides of this Southern Soul “impossible” conveys despair, pain and an aching need in equal amounts; as Little Anthony Burns borrows from a few Soul Classics, amalgamating some well know phrases but stamping his own identity on each track. A funeral paced Hammond pulls the session deeper into misery, with a sympathetic guitar riff twitching away in the background. An abyss of sadness unfolds. Flipping it over Anthony’s mood does not get any brighter.. This time drawing in from James Brown’s Deep Soul classic, but adjusting the lyrics enough to lift it away from plagiarism…but this Soul Man’s exquisitely tortured vocal dispels all comparisons. As this is a truly individual performance displaying neighborhood Soul at it’s most moving.. Top of the Tree Deep Soul and insanely rare! Condition throughout, could hardly be finer! Certainly heading up my DJ sets of the mid-70’s, a game changer transforming the dancefloor into a “sardine can” at the drop of a needle.. ..but for today I think the flipside would knock a Sunday chill session crowd “dead” utterly sublime harmony awaits, with a sexy sax taking to the air as the seamless voices take pause for breath.. Girls, guys, strings, prompting Hammond, and a rhythmic riffs borrowed from early Motown.. Wow! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 59.00 John Drevar's Expression The Closer She Gets Before you is an old school Northern Soul boy’s heart-stopper! An Off-The-Scale Rare Stock copy! John Drevar’s Expression just back from a tour supporting Jimi Hendrix in Paris, when Lance Barrett presented the group with a Richie Adams, Victoria Pike, Teddy Randazzo creation. Lance was hoping for another big hit like he had with The Troggs a year earlier with “Wild Thing”. Assisting proceedings was “Soul” orientated Johnny Harris, who arranged the song with imposing instrumental breaks. According to band member Derek Edmond the party atmosphere was in full swing, especially when an enthusiastic couple of backing singers add “Ba Ba Ba Ba” into the huge horn break, clapping hands elevating the song up yet another notch.. The “Ba Ba Ba Ba” backing singers were Tony Blackburn and the distracting gorgeousness of Tessa Wyatt, playing a vital part of this great Northern Soul song’s fabric! But unfortunately, for all this enthusiasm from accomplished players, the expected “hit” was not to be, this 45 fell at the first hurdle, selling virtually nothing and so the legendary saga of a future Northern Soul trophy begins… Such a cool tune, was at some point in it’s life gonna be discovered, and the most likely source would be a Northern Soul pioneer unearthing a copy from his local vinyl graveyards… We are not sure who the first DJ to debut this 45, but it rocketed to the top of everyone’s wish list, as the very few pink and silver Demo copies hit the turntables of of England’s premier all niters! The rest is history, so rare at the time, a copy never fell into the hands of the bootleggers, casual Northern Soul collectors had to be content with a vastly inferior remake on Destiny records, who cheekily put a 1968 date on the label. A record I’ve thankfully not heard since it’s actual 1979 release.. HERE IS THE REAL DEAL the 1967 STOCK copy, rarer than the DEMO in our experience of the last 20 years at a 4 to 1 ratio. This copy has two clean labels, no writing, stains or tears. The vinyl surface is marked, strong gloss but lots a light surface hairlines. Listen to the soundfile lifted directly of the “near impossible” disc. and wait for that mighty instrumental break towards the end, when apparently Tessa Wyatt seductively stooped towards the microphone and Tony Blackburn’s “Ba Ba Ba Ba” morphed into a lip curling “BAAA!! BAAA!! BAAA!! BAAA!!” I feel your desire Tony B. as I find every aspect of this song is seductive… including the label. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 463.00 Marketts Stirrin' Up Some Soul A Northern Soul instrumental classic in by far it’s most desirable clothes. 1967 British Yellow DEMO! in fine clean condition! Irresistle! 14. I've just checked eBay (should have done that to start with!) and can see loads of them with "Wear It...." on the other side. On a previous thread, someone mentioned the LP version which is a bit longer. Check it out on Youtube, there in an extra instrumental break which does add something to the track.
  15. Sorry to get in the way but I didn't know it had been re-issued. Is it a recent one? Is it getting enough attention/plays to make it worth while re-issuing? Just interested as I've liked the tune for ages.
  16. I've just had a quick look on eBay and there are a couple of White Demo's, a slightly tatty Blue-ish issue and is a seller with Mint very light/pale issue's. These are described as " New and unplayed, old store stock". from a USA seller who look reputable. I can see what you mean about it looking like a boot but I've no reason to think it is. I'd feel more settled with a Blue 'Un as well !!
  17. Hi, Thanks for getting back. Good luck with the sale, great record.
  18. Regarding Kenny Smith. It's a top price but the record was presented very nicely in that company sleeve. I understand that Rare old books sell for much more if they have their dust jacket!! I seem to remember Pete Smith trying to sell one for £200 then dropped down not that long ago.
  19. OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It refers to people who are obsessive or obsessed about about something. In this case, he's referring to a collector who must have been obsessive about keeping their records in super clean condition.
  20. This weeks results are.... Aggression Come And Be My Freak / Starship Rare Washington, D.C. private press. an Eddie Perrell project giving up “aggressive” funk one side, subtle innovative Sweet Soul harmony the other side. Take a listen as the lead vocal attacks the punchy psyche/Funk arrangement as he does a “Vernon Burch” with the lyric and the honkin’ horns respond over the top Norman Connors inspired synth and guitar rhythms, so typically back end of the seventies styled.. Confirming writer Terry Scott’s admiration for Micheal Henderson/Norman Connors collaborations the group perform a beautiful version of “You are My Starship” on the flipside. Tight mellow harmonies sown into meandering jazzy instrumentation that is completely hypnotic as different beseeching vocal fill the atmosphere.. A double helping of impressive local endeavor .. For me this is the greatest R&B dancer to ever get a release in Britain with unequaled turntable presence, guaranteed to generate a down n’ dirty atmosphere. I lay this in may sets from it’s Duke release.. without except it is received with a change up the mood.. opening a dance opportunity only those “special” classics can spark.. After near 55 years you really don’t expect to encounter this 45 in Mint - condition.. it was a 45 to be partied with, to be constantly on the Dansette spindle stacked in the midst of 7 other 45s.. This unblemished copy must have spend a life on a OCD collectors shelve.. Time to set the Texas leviathan free.. listen to the soundfile and keep still is you can.. (our first example this century) Without question one of the most glamorous poses captured on a picture cover by this persistently photographed trio.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 261.00 Kenny Smith Lord, What's Happening To Your People The beauty of the Northern Soul original does not get more charismatic than this Blackpool Mecca anthem, as the seldom seen “label-art” stock copy. At the time of it’s airings at The Mecca by the serial vinyl-adventurer Colin Curtis; a DJ who didn’t give a hoot about the initial dancefloor opinion. The Mecca crowd initially didn’t quite know what to make of the meandering intro, with a one finger piano accompaniment… a far cry from the Tomangoes start.. Colin, as always stuck with this diverse play…that quickly changed up a gear with a bass guitar break, squealing girls and Kenny Smith gravel-coated vocal scything through a production that just gets stronger and more inventive by the minute… Take a bow Mr. Curtis, in 1975 your foresight and taste was way ahead of it’s time, validated by this song escalating to the turntables of Cleethorpes Pier, Wigan Casino, Peterborough Wirrina, Yate, St. Ives… in fact every Northern Soul club of the 70’s with a DJ lucky enough to own a copy, would take pause on that iconic intro, then mesmerized, slowly melt into that kaleidoscope of Soul. I adore every moment of this groundbreaking tune, with only Lou Edwards - “Talkin’ Bout Poor Folks” getting anywhere close to it’s uniqueness… Here is, it’s by far rarest garb and what a garb it is, ready to illuminate even the most precious collection of Northern Soul.. An eye-popper triggering euphoric recall of the days when DJ’s of the magnitude of Colin Curtis influenced the scene when no style of Soul was not investigated and played if Colin Curtis thought it appropriate by his ear…. This copy is utterly flawless btw.. the silly Rare Stock copy in heart-stopping condition! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 558.00 Jock Mitchell And The Fabulous Agents No Mad Woman The mighty vocal of Jock Mitchell hooks into an infectious Aaron Neal arrangement, an addictive cocktail of “Far East” rhythms, rich male harmony choruses, swinging from silky smooth to outrageous screams; all perfectly timed allowing Mr. Mitchell to flex his ease spearing the lyric. Deliciously moody, sultry Northern Soul that very few other Soul recordings have imitated. Only the Master Four, Stewart Ames come to mind whilst comparing this individualistic style.. ALL copies of this 45 are “low-fi” presses, so it is imperative to acquire a copy as flawless as you can possibly find it.. Well this copy just happens to be a mere smidgen off a “Manship Mint” finest example of this disc we’ve encountered in memory. You will not find finer vinyl, A-side label is perfect, flipside label has a tiny sticker removal mark. (see scans) Listen to the killer Detroit Northern Soul in unblemished condition.. The winning bid was £ 96.00 Richard Marks Don't Take It Out On Me / Love Is Gone Richard Marks now here’s singer of real note.. It matters not a jot which side the Rare Soul DJ drop the stylus on, both sides give up high-quality Rare Soul Dance! Banbury’s Baron of the turntables “Eddie Hubbard” is currently championing the splendid “Don’t Take It Out On Me” whilst the flipside ” Love Is Gone ” gets an outing most every sets I do. Both benefit from the inventive abyss of Atlanta’s main Soul man Thomas “Tee” Fletcher, the creator of so many truly preeminent Northern Soul recordings; all carrying his trademark of uplifting dance arrangement s peppered with meaningful lyrics. On this highly elusive disc he delivers just that, but twice over - two exquisitely constructed dancers and more importantly current plays.. The artist himself can also do no wrong, every one of his 45’s are rare and highly sought after, some achieving eye-watering values when they seldom surface.. This Shout release right up there along side his very finest.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 208.00 Blues And Soul # 21 July / August 1969 Soul Historians here is the seldom seen July 1969 issue 21 in spectacular condition, even retains the Blues & Soul ON DISC supplement where John Abbey rated new UK Soul releases for July/August 1969. (makes very interesting reading) With the 1966 UK Philips release, The Flamingos - Boogaloo Party - being the most-wanted 45 on the All-night scene for three years. Blues & Soul dedicate two pages to the group, as Philips re-issued this dance-floor destroyer to meet the unprecedented demand. A rare peek into the story of this fabulous New York gathering. There is of course the consistently controversial, but essential read of the Dave Godin column. Which sparked debate in previous issues whether the Dave Godin column should be curtailed.. but readers letters in this edition give the “Sou Governor” 100% support. Spy the centerfold spread of a stunning Smokey Robinson & the Miracles stage shot. + Bios and pics on: The Flamingos, The Drifters + the discography & Al Wilson.. Eye-catc hing record company adverts include. Soul City, Action, Tamla Motown, MCA Soul Bag (hence Jackie Wilson on the front cover) and of course Atlantic pushing Otis Redding - Love Man, Major Lance - Follow The Leader etc. Here is a fundamental window into the burgeoning British Soul scene prior to the 70’s “lift off” I’ve personally never encountered a Blues & Soul early number A5 style mag in finer condition.. and this edition is such an enlightening read.. plus of course the front cover is a “framer” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 30.00 Chubby Checker Everything's Wrong / Cu Ma La Be-stay “The Roof Leaks The Floor Creaks…” “Everything’s Wrong” .. in the case of this listing “Everything Is Right!” in fact dead-right ! Vinyl condition is perfection, most likely UNPLAYED before we lifted the impressive double soundfile. Still housed in it’s birth-sleeve, label stamped with ATV music library. So right, we can’t imagine ever listing a better copy. Top side is one of Chubby’s sublime offerings to the Northern Soul scene, seamless 60’s Philly Northern Soul from the prolific desk of Wes Farrell. Chubby’s milky vocal sits perfectly within the flowing arrangement, producing a great song that has steadily climbed in popularity; with the easy to dance characteristics, prompting requests.. As for the flipside, we have to regress back to the Twisted Wheel era when “Cu Ma La Be-Stay” was such a huge play, it sparked a 1968 British bootlegs B.J.D and the beloved Soul Sounds series. Here’s the real deal in unbeatable condition, offering two great sides, one for today’s turntable, one to reminiscing about the scene origins. Rhonda’s beseeching pleas woven into the seamless NS dance production is just to die for.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 555.00 Tommy Neal Going To A Happening TOMMY NEAL revealed. The puzzling evolution of a USA flop that went on to become a British 60’s Soul Club & MOD anthem…stayed available for almost 4 years in Decca’s catalog, as it’s dance-floor reputation reached fever pitch.. “Get Your Car Or Your Motorbike…..” The mystery of why this instantly infectious 60’s Soul dance masterpiece was not a hit in the USA may never be 100% clear but we thought to document it’s timeline of different label releases in Richard Popcorn Wylie’s quest for the hit, may be interesting to our auction readers.. First release was pink labeled Pameline 200 with the Nashville Matrix and PAM 200 etched in deadwax - received poor sales 2nd. release was Palmer 2024 with P 5024 etched in the deadwax P 5024 Bell Sound & ARP stamped achieved even worse sales, underlined that many seasoned collectors thought it was never issued, as Promo copies were the only ones that ever seemed to surface. 3rd. Issue was the Yellow label Pameline using the Palmer master-stampers with the exact same P 5024 etched in the deadwax P 5024 Bell Sound & ARP stamped in the deadwax. Seems to have been triggered by Pittsburgh club plays from the trendsetting DJs like Mad Mike etc. This yellow label pressed fed that brief local demand…that never transferred back to the Motor City 4th. issue, when all failed in Michigan, but a spark of hope in Pittsburg, was a shot at California; In November 1967 Vault Records, 6430 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California 90028 with a Delta # 69126 in the deadwax. This too failed to make few sales register even after being highlighted in Billboard. One good thing came out of the Californian call, was Vault Records who also had faith in this infectious song leased the recording to UK Decca and the rest is history, A Twisted Wheel anthem that is still as popular with the dancefloor and the collectors as it was back in 1968.. Before you today is an elusive and pristine White PROMO of that 4th. and final endeavor to make this a nationwide hit.. it sadly never happened.. The final piece in the jigsaw is Tommy Neal’s real identity as the Tommy Mealy acetate on Bell Sound singer, is widely believed to be Thomas Mealy from Detroit group The Majestics who recorded on Chex. Additional information by Jason Thornton, Dennis O’Brien, initial research from Richard Johnstone, many thanks to all who helped unravel the life story of one of Britain’s best loved Club Classics… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 185.00 Detroit Spinners Detroit Spinners Two STEREO first test plate press, in heavy duty vinyl, white labels with handwritten black labels and blank vinyl on the flipside. Perhaps unique, we have certainly never come across this variation of the 1967 UK press before. The laminated cover is the same as the elusive regular shop release. We could easily have soundfile all the tracks on this debut album for Motown, but in the end we went for only five, with the other 7 still giving up Motown vocal-group Soul at it’s most riveting. I’ll always love you truly yours sweet thing I cross my heart I just can’t help but feel the pain With an album TEST PRESS sound is infinitely superior to the masterplate that whacks out 100’s or 1000’s of platters. This very rare offering is in unblemished condition throughout Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 94.00
