1. Hi, I think it's the same thing that happened with "Stormy". If anyone has access to the finish price (JM Facebook ?) please feel free to add the result Cheers
2. Hi, Thanks for adding the finish result. I didn't get to post the results until about 6.30. I understand that if someone wins the auction and pay's immediately (via the website?) the item disappears from the list of results. This happened with the Lou Ragland last week. Cheers
3. Cautions No Other Way / Poor Loser Shrine: SR 115 (45s) SHRINE TIME! This filed-forever 45 find, was so very nearly a Manship Mint this Christmas because it was unplayed, with two perfect "Electric Blue labels and a full blooded red flame (see those spectacular fade-free scans) The vinyl reveals a few very mild sleeve brush hairlines under strong light nothing . Possibly caused when the hand-applied labels were stuck on. Those two iconic labels gleam like they were stuck on yesterday, vinyl plays utterly immaculate MINT absolutely no DJ wear here.. Top side " No Other Way" is a relentless, rapid fire, real-deal Northern Soul gymnastic triggering proper-stomper, with CLASS! Tight vocals, tidal-wave horns, robust lip-curled-up lead vocal, silky vocal group backup, runaway-track rhythms that drive you to the dance-floor, to relive those moves that drew so much attention back in the day.. it's amazing what records of this standing can rekindle into those tired limbs and hanging heart.. The flipside "Poor Loser" I played from my DJ box a few years back the Soul Essence's Deep Room.. is perhaps one of the most sublime 60's Sweet Soul recordings of all time... listen and weep! Condition Report As mention above this 45 is in filed for a lifetime condition. Flawless except for a few minuscule feeble paper hairlines from sitting on a shelf for over 50 years.... £1,110.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Listen Blues & Soul Blues And Soul issue 4 / # 4 January 4 Contempo: 4 (MAG) # 4 in this most collectable series in Stevie Wonder image on the cover.. Open for the facing page 3 is a bio AL KENT with John Abbey incredulous that Al Kent's "You've Got To Pay The Price" remains unissued in the UK (Polydor put that oversight right, almost immediately) . But what a great bio on Al Kent (Al Hamilton) covering his early Chicago recordings with his two brothers Bob Hamilton & Ronnie Savoy (Hamilton). Next Bio and full page picture is Sam Baker. Followed by as 3 page review of the 1968 "Soul Explosion" European tour featuring Sam & Dave's Baznd backing proceedings as Sam Baker, Linda Carr, Lee Dorsey, Little Charles, Arthur Conley, Sam & Dave 3,000 Soul fans apparently attended this November 12th concert in East Ham .. ?? venue was not noted ISLAND SKA charts. NEW SOUL 45 RELEASE SHEET Lee Dorsey pic and short review., Condition Report Fine clean condition, no writing, no tears no flaw, very light crease front cover. £76.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Huns Review featuring The Soul Brothers Don't Make Me Love You / Danger Zone Sorro: 967 (45s) Yellow fever strikes again, on this Pennsylvania Northern Soul monster that has been proving so difficult to nail in recent times. DJ created demand wiped it completely off Northern Soul collectors map.. Any copies that may have been around 5-10-15 years ago are now safely incarcerated in DJ boxes and the best collections over Europe. Little wonder because the intro to this heralded tune is a wake up call for dance-floor... aerial trumpeting signals an urgent, near breathless lead vocal, at times gasping in desperation but those horns drive him on, to beg "Don't Make Me Love You" as surely he'll die after all see she put him through before... Great story line, will he weaken? We never find out, but we do know he was "Stripped of his Heart, and stripped of his Soul" .. I think he resisted the temptation of giving her a second chance.. But can you resist? There may well be no second chance, especially in near perfect condition throughout.. Condition Report Impeccable vinyl surfaces, hardly a blemish under strong light and certainly no marks to report on this play perfect disc. Both labels as you can see are spanking clean "Mellow Yellow" a real beauty. £622.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Listen Patty Stokes Is It True / Good Girl (Can You Be) Mir-A-Don: 1005 (45s) Since the Golden Years of Wigan Casino to today's vibrant scene, the sands of Northern Soul's musical tastes have shifted so many times. Ending up in today's diet of the well trodden paths of NS Classics, a flirt with Funk, Beat Ballad Heaven making an occasional but very welcome appearance in the more cultured DJ sets. To the super-Soulful crossover grooves saturated in emotion and class in equal amounts.. The reason I say this, here's a double-delight of Northern Soul I first heard in circa 1977 when I found a handful of Mir-A-Don 45s about 7 different 45's a few copies of each. But this one stood out as being a different label colour and by a girl at the time I'd never heard of.. Just imagine my delight when it turned out to be classic style Northern Soul.. "Good Girl (Can You Be)" was an unknown and a killer. I considered dead-right for Wigan Casino was my first thought, so I rang Richard Searling and played him it down the phone. Sounded absolutely brilliant, whether he bought a copy, I can't remember; but Soul Sam certainly did. Closely watching his reactions as he played it the barometer for the asking price. His hands started twitch and twiddle the controls of the record player (good sign), then his shoulders started to move (good sign), then I got the ultimate vote of YES! When Soul Sam's hips started wriggle ever so slightly...(the best sign) After that Soul Sam Dance, his poker face was useless, when he lifted the record off the decks and pronounced "Not Bad" and casually threw the record of a pile of "Maybe's". He of cause went home with a copy, at a "Not Bad" price.. But through this journey not once, did I or anyone else playing the disc notice the utterly breathtaking journey into Northern Soul Crossover that "Is It Me" deliveres.. not until after the millennium did those "shifting sands" start to move towards superior mid-paced Soulful dancers like "Is It True", today it's "Good Girl" that nobody seems to mention or play.. For me personally, "Is It True" today is a huge part of my DJ set, it is without question one of the ultimate Sister mid-tempo grooves of the time.. and seems to be getting bigger and bigger by the day.. Without exception when I drop it, somebody will come to the stage and ask "what is this...?" Click the soundfile and take a breath, Patty Stokes is about to hit you with impeccable Northern Soul Crossover, followed by a top-drawer, classic style Northern Soul girl dancer, backed beautifully by "The Ascots" harmonies.. this too is a fantastic tune that may yet have it's day.. when the sands shift back the quality Northern Soul 45s that haven't been played to death. Condition Report Multiple light hairlines.. As you will hear NOT affecting play on either side. Both labels have light storage ring rub, but totally clean; no X's, writing, stickers, tears or stains.. £411.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Listen Albert Washington A Case Of The Blues / One More Chance Rye: 954 (45s) We have only ever listed Cincinnati Sizzler once before, since then demand has sky-rocketed on the back of the few lucky DJ owners who have championed it's persuasive raw qualities that command you to dance.. Taking over from where his Northern Soul Monster "I'm Your Man" left off starting to cram the dance-floors and rattle a few ceilings around the Manchester area. Every note and snarl as good as "I'm Your Man" but 50 times rarer. We are anticipating big things from this 45 in the very near future.. there's a buzz on this tune right now... and that buzz is gonna build into a deafening drone of wanting.. The rap intro is bulldozed by a deluge of horns that Albert's roaring vocal is so very capable of riding.. those rolling bursts of brass. Gravel-coated tonsils spout a case for the Blues.. oh and how.. Looking for a showstopping slab of Northern Soul? At this moment "A Case Of The Blues" is the most compelling piece of R&B you could ever drop the arm on... and it's only gonna get BIGGER!!! Condition Report Dare we say MINT, it is as close as it gets for a played record, with toytally unblemished vinyl, two yellow labels that only reveal the mildest signs of it's nearing 50 year age.. £335.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Listen Masqueraders Do You Love Me Baby / Sweet Lovin' Woman Wand: 1172 DJ (45s) A NS floor-filler and a heart-breaker on one very elusive disc!! This gargantuan vocal group dancer, a Northern Soul classic from one of the heroes of our scene. This is of course currently their most-wanted 45.. a dancefloor detonator, backed up with a perfectly executed Memphis Deep Soul ballad showcasing why this group are universally considered one of the greatest Soul teams ever to perform.. "Do You Love Me Baby" encompasses all their varied vocal tones and pitches, stirring up into a wall of harmony with Soulful snarls accentuating the high points, and rich bass adding depth and Soul. This is truly a masterclass in vocal-group dance soul.. As is the sublime cocktail of Memphis Deep Soul blended with Chicago style harmonies.. the result is a moving ballad of pure class.. Putting this level in the talent in a studio with the great Chips Moman there can only be one result - Soul Heaven which ever side you drop the stylus on.. Condition Report lead dance side has fine clean vinyl some fine hairlines revealed under strong light, no clicks or hiss, plays clean, just the very occasional inevitable styrene "fuzz" that does not distract in the least, near perfect playback (listen to the soundfile and judge). Promo labels light sticker removal scar top right/hand on label (see scan) flipside label is flawless. WHAT A RECORD!! WHAT A GROUP!! £961.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Listen Gwen Owens Just Say You're Wanted ( And Needed ) / Still True To You Velgo: VO 002 (45s) Not only one of the biggest trophies possible to lift in the Northern Soul arena.. This is the best condition copy I've ever seen.. FLAWLESS Mint minus throughout! See live video on You Tube both sides play pristine.. strong sound, beautiful labels NO Skips Condition Report I've never witnessed a copy so gloriously unblemished... and most likely never will again.

Please NOTE this 45 is NOT advised to be played cheap record players with STRAIGHT ARMS, in some cases it may cause a skip, if you only have STANTON or similar record decks with straight arms we would suggest you do not bid, as this disc like many 60's records does not respond well to straight arms and low quality stylus & cartridges. This 45 was recorded on a Technics deck & ortofon cartridge and stylus as you can hear it PLAYS PERFECT! £4,250.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Listen Ken Parker We Must Be In Love / Wish I Could Make you Mine A&M : AMS 7092 (45s) When A-list modern soul DJ's start murmurings of " have you heard that Ken Parker on A&M?" .. the internet goes dry over-night of any copies that may have been "floating" in unknown-limbo, especially as recently it's started to appear on a few play lists... then we discover the flipside is equally captivating..the hunt for a clean copy of the 45 that's about to spring forth and shake up those lazy Sundays when passed over quality comes to life.. So when one of my favourite rare-soul DJ's drops the arm on it, in became indelible in my mind, every day I dug through unprocessed stock in the warehouse i hope I fall upon a copy, as I could wait to hear it again. Well despite my flaking brain cells my persistence paid off.. I wasn't disappointment, "Plumby's" taste has always been impeccable and both sides lit up my senses. So why not get in on the ground-floor, as this 45 ain't no easy find; both sides ripple with that exclusive potential that starts with a murmur, but ends in that all too familiar scream.. "I Shudda Bought It When It Was Around for 1/2 that price..!!" Click the soundfile two unleash to delicately delicious Soul British creations Condition Report Almost Mint, couple of mild surface hairlines on the vinyl, plays perfect. Both labels are flawless, housed in it's birth-sleeve I must have bought it in, sometime during the 70's. £186.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 25/10/2017 18:00 Listen © 2017 John Manship Records. 4. Hi Paul, Thanks for filling in the blank space!! Much appreciated
5. Does anyone know what happened with the Lou Ragland (I think)? It just vanished at the end!
6. Not sure what happened to the Lou Ragland (?) record that had the hairline crack. I saw it go over £700, went for a cuppa and when I came back, it had GONE !!! Very odd, if anyone can add the reason or finish price, please add a comment. Patti Young Head And Shoulders (Above The Rest) / The Valiant Kind Ernstrat: 495 (45s) It's not very often Detroit looks to New York for inspiration, but this rarely encountered Northern Soul trophy did just that, when in 1965 Mike Theodore rearranged the Clyde Otis & Norbert DeCoteaux composition recorded on MGM by Marlina Mars. Whilst Marlina's version is a wonderful piece of Northern Soul, Patti Young's infinitely rarer take, carries that irresistible Detroit dominance, Al Saxon & Mike Theodore construct around Patti's bewitching vocal; sweetened by shrill backing girls.. bolstered by honkin' horns, crafting distilled girl Northern Soul at it's most persuasive.. The in New York / Detroit hybrid works perfectly. A record owned by very few DJ's and since it's bootlegging on the infamous Out-Of-The-Past label in the early 70's, this Ernstrat original comes intoi view... But for the Detroit devotees the overlooked flipside is pure Motor City magic, written & arranged by the gifted Mike Theodore the ingenious "The Valiant Kind" with it's exploding bomb intro, is saturated in homegrown inventive Detroit styling...fabulously simplistic piano intro moves to the side, for a bevvy of Soul Sister to deliver a patriotic message when from nowhere explodes a saxophone solo to elevate the session to another level.. more exploding bombs, machine guns as the heroic-war-backdrop is emphasized, but all you'll remember from this directive is the spectacular saxophone intrusion and those silky girl vocals. Insanely rare in this fine clean condition, and a record that only a dedicated few, can boast of ever owning.. Condition Report White on the label has very light storage "spotting" in places, scrutinize the label scans. The vinyl under light reveals only a few very fine hairlines and plays flawless ((listen) £636.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Marvelettes I'll Keep Holding On / No Time For Tears Tamla Motown : TMG 518 DJ (45s) We think the label scan & the soundfile will tell this 45's story far better than we can.. An iconic platter.. a trophy for those DJ's who want to trigger whiplash on their audience, as the turntable-cam focuses in on that Red & White vision of beauty, the pain of envy and head swivelling will instantly dissolve in the mind when that drum roll hits..and those delicious girl vocals sprout wings.. Condition Report Labels are free of writing or tears..light aging/browning and rub to the white areas (see scans). Vinyl reveals light hairlines under direct light.. scrutinized the soundfile we found crisp, loud, clear and true..
£280.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Major Lance Too Hot To Hold / Dark And Lonely Columbia: 7688 (45s) By far "The Major's" rarest British 45 may we dare to say his best? But we know you will be wowed by this massive slab of quality underplayed Northern Soul.... The only reason this 45 did not eclipse "Investigate" "The Beat" "Ain't No Soul (In These Old Shoes" "Everybody Loves A Good Time etc. back in the day; is the same reason many top-drawer Northern Soul dancers languish in the background' is it's serious unavailability. Since it's 1965 swift deletion causing a severe dearth of copies, only a few DJ's had a copy to play, thus the aforementioned release stole the limelight lifting Major Lance into a demigod on these shores.. So take a listen to a pure slab of Chicago Northern Soul that back in the 60's and early 70's was very seldom aired, but today I do hear an occasional drop of the Okeh release, and always to a rapturous response. At this moment poise for bigger and better things,as this fantastic tune is not an easy capture as USA original, but as this 1965 UK press it's a different story. British collectors check through your Major Lance 45's, we're betting this 45 is not there ad if it is, it is not totally flawless like this copy.. After you've been compelled to dance to "The Major" at his most-insistent.. flip it over for "Dark And Lonely" again Major Lance is his superior-self on this Billy Butler song.. Two great sides only surpassed by the spectacular condition.. Condition Report Flawless in every way, most likely unplayed before we lifted that impressive soundfile. As good as it gets condition! £80.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Ray Pollard The Drifter / Let Him Go (And Let Me Love You) United Artists: 916 DJ (45s) The Northern Soul "last record" anthem... in breathtaking flawless condition.. Nothing we can say, could elevate this NS Classic any higher in your estimation, more than it already sits... Condition Report Two unblemished labels, two play surfaces that only reveal the merest minuscule sleeve contact blemish, a whicker away from a Manship Mint listing £750.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Ronnie & Robyn Sidra's Theme / Blow Out The Candle Sidra : 9007 DJ (45s) We have talked about this monumental Northern Soul instrumental before, how it jolted me into silence as I chattered away.. the unusual genial intro, instantly caught my ear, so out of sync with the rest of the records I'd heard that day inside Whitchuch All Dayer.. slowly building on ripples of Harp plucks..you just knew something was about to happen as the rhythmic rattle of drumsticks intensified.. then the horn blasted through the calm BRILLIANT! "WOW what's this tune?" ...and I wasn't the only one standing in open-mouthed astonishment.. Ian Levine had announced it with his usual gusto, giving it a cover-up title I just cannot remember but I'm sure he made it sound like it was gonna be the biggest, best, most-wanted sound of that summer 1973 I'm thinking.. he wasn't wrong either.. I do delight in Northern Soul classics with the capacity to take you back to the times when everything was new to the ears, but branded then into your brain for the next week.. "Sidras Theme" did that, I think we even made a special trip the Blackpool Mecca for the of chance to hear it again, back in those days the cover-up tease with it's weird and wonderful christenings were part of the joy of being a Northern Soul boy.. This promo copy that took me all the way from my untidy desk at home, to Whitchurch 1973 is flawless - two perfect labels, play surfaces hardly reveal a blemish, plays perfect.. A listing especially aimed at Northern Soul old-school collectors who want to leap into the virtual time-machine that records of this calibre give you the key to.. Condition Report as mentioned above, two perfect labels, play surfaces hardly reveal a blemish, plays perfect.. a real clean copy od a real-deal Rare classic! £345.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Perfect Touch Your Love Has Got The Power / Your Love Has Got The Power part 2 H.E.M.M.: 4463 (7") RARE street-level Detroit Soulful dancer making it's debut on this auction - yes this is our first copy of Soul Sam's cover-up. A neighborhood project omitting writers, producers, arranger etc always a sign of real local obscurity. But in this case not a sign of amateurish approach to what is a convincing rarity. Simple piano intro, is joined by gently measured percussion, then heavenly girls press home the chorus that will feature throughout this addictive groove.. lead vocal, is supported by those shrill Sisters whilst the mid-tempo dance arrangement takes shape.. flip it over for part 2 (unlike most part 2's) this one is not just a continuation of the a-side this side is more insistent hitting peaks the a-side doesn't attempt, lengthy instrumental breaks peppered with silky ladies choruses.. Local, rare and memorable Detroit with edge and individuality.. Condition Report Nice clean vinyl with just a couple of hairlines hairlines revealed under strong light, plays clean & true. The startling sky-blue labels have light storage smudge, but totally free of the annoying flaws, writing, tears, sticker, stains this 45 has none of those.. £185.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Various Artists Chartbusters U.S.A. / 1965 UK press Columbia: SX 6016 (LP) You are viewing the most-wanted, least seen of all Soul compilation albums, the fabled UK Columbia 1965 tribute to Chicago Soul and the legendary Okeh label "CHARTBUSTERS U.S.A" 14 tracks by the then mostly unknown on British airwaves, Walter Jackson, Ted Taylor, Vibrations, Billy Butler and the Chanters, Artistics and the already idolized Major Lance.. check out the back cover scan to reveal that breathtaking track listing. With no USA counterpart, this was however an album that sold virtually nothing upon release; unless you really were very "hip" those artist's names would have meant nothing to ,most people couple with Columbia's amazingly poor marketing nevr mentioned the word Soul or R&B on the front cover. The back cover is only marginally more information, to the style of what you expect if you played it.. Thus an unparalleled album passed everybody by, for a fate of early deletion and extremely rarity.. I feel privileged today to be able to offer, a pristine copy of this insanely elusive LP. Our first flawless copy in memory.. Flawless vinyl, two perfect labels, housed in original EMI rice-paper lined "Emitex" inner sleeve. Laminated flipback cover front and back are unblemished.. Condition Report may we repeat: Flawless vinyl, two perfect labels, housed in original EMI rice-paper lined "Emitex" inner sleeve. Laminated flipback cover front and back are unblemished.. £111.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Vivian Jones Money Can't Buy My Love / Crying Lark: 102 (45s) Going from Detroit Northern Soul girl-sounds that seldom that seldom-surface, to an insanely rare 45 bristling with attitude and drive.. One of the most absurdly rare sister-shakers on that "impossible "Lark" label. Just like Bernie Moore this girl offering is an exhilarating dance-floor-destroyer made even more dynamic by Ms. Jones's growling delivery how "Money Don't Move" her.. She'll certainly move you though...as the relentless guitar riffs lay down a dance track you just can't ignore; embroidered with shrill girl choruses, a sprinkling of a male group harmony response and a saxophonist who dresses up the background perfectly.. This production has everything, just like Bernie Moore not a single corner is cut, as a full studio delivers guts, defiance, held together by perfectly timed hand-claps. This song is top-drawer Detroit with a rarity pedigree send to none, and the only reason it's not yet a Holy Grail, is because there has never been enough copies in existence to go round all the A-list DJ's to make it so.. Listen to hear what I'm a applauding as well at the insane rarity, this is truly rousing Sister-Northern at it's most magnificent.. Condition Report Vinyl inspection reveals a few mild surface marks, as you can hear it plays flawless. Both labels suffer light face wear, a-side has mild h2o splash NOT affecting any text. Flipside label only has mild storage rub, and a couple of spots (see scan) and absorb, as this is not a record you're likely to see again anytime soon £1,360.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Friday Brown 32nd Love Affair / Born A Woman Fontana: TF 736 (45s) So very rarely comes to market, one that even the most avid British Northern Soul collector, most probably will not own. From the magical year of 1966, this Mancunian lass started her recording career with Parlophone her first record sold nothing and this follow up on Fontana sold even less. Changing producers never saw a change in her single sales fortunes and after 8 x 45rpm release over 7 years, sadly this accomplished sing/songwriter released no more..Before you today is her best and extremely rare single.. Pure Northern Soul intro, leads into full kitchen-sink production includes a searing bank of strings, girl choir purring perfect Northern Soul response whilst cradling Friday's imposing vocal; as she discharges a defiant message to the ex-lover "It's My 32nd Love Affair". I just love the lyrics, her carefree attitude, and her spectacular vocal that rides high on this huge production.. For me this leaves other Brit contenders for No. 1 Northern Soul recording British Girl 45 in the dust. Step aside Paula Parfitt - your love is not so wonderful, Kiki Dee - That Magic Carpet has been in the air for far too long, time to land for Friday Brown to let lose with this much-rare and for me less "Pop" orientated. British production it may be, but for me this is pure Northern Soul from a gal with one hell of a voice.. The flipside is another big production that showcases the strength of her voice even stronger.. Stick Helen Shapiro, Paula Parfitt, Kiki Dee etc. at the back of your DJ box, time for Friday Brown to have her long overdue day .. standout lyrics, killer vocal, huge production with pure Northern Soul moments.. LOVE IT! Condition Report Fine clean vinyl, hardly a blemish on either side. Both label as you see £144.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen Little Joe Hinton Let's Start A Romance / Your Kind Of Love Arvee: 5029 (7") Hipshakin', handclappin', horn decorated feelgood R&B flavoured dancer, a piece of Northern Soul you just can't ignore, especially when Little Joe hits you with a snarling outburst elevating an already commanding dancer.. "Stop Your Crying Woman .. He Didn't You From The Start" Relentless dance fuel that's cramming them onto the floor everywhere it's played.. The previous few copies we have auctioned this century has been a little worse for wear.. this perfect-play copy has a few very fine hairlines and as you can hear not even a whisper of a sound flaw.. A fantastic furious hunk of R&B shimmering with smooth class.. from Joe's emphatic delivery.. An essential NS DJ weapon against the "same old" Condition Report Bright light reveals a few very fine hairline, but nothing that reacts on the stylus (listen) Unlike our previous listing in2015 both labels are free from writing, stickers tears or stains. From memory there is a very very weak "Pink" fade to the background colour.. hardly worth a mention (see scans) £1,000.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 18/10/2017 18:00 Listen © 2017 John Manship Records. 7. Also, whenever you get super high auction results, there has to be at least TWO bidders involved. So, not only was there someone willing to pay £1,671, there was also someone willing to pay about £1,660 !!!
8. It's interesting to compare the number of Sam Dees "Lonely.." 45's out there with the number of Stanley Mitchell issues - then look at the finish prices!
9. Stanley Mitchell Get It Baby / Quit Twisting My Arm Dynamo: d-111 (45s) Upon spying that scan.. I know old-school Catacombs, Mecca, Wigan Casino pupils will be goose-pimpling up as this vision catapults then back to their NS Wonder Years! An all time GREAT... in by far it's rarest format, the sight of which will spark memories of how this instrumental bonded you to a lifetime of Northern Soul.. after all it is one of the most memorable tunes EVER introduced to us young sponges eager for new sounds to soak up every week.."Get It Baby" is Northern Soul at it's most-memorable.... Mike Terry, Richard Popcorn Wylie & Tony Hester all had a hand in crafting the two sides of Detroit masterpiece... Which brings me to the flipside which has undeservedly lived in the shadows of "Get It Baby" even though over the decades some more enterprising DJ's have played "Quit Twisting My Arm" in preference to an oldie, no matter how great that oldie may be.. So how damn refreshing it was to be present when "Jumpin' Joan" played it within a stirring set of uncompromising NS thumpers at "GRUMPY SOUL" an event that everyone needs to attend if you wanna relive what old-school Catacombs, Mecca, Wigan Casino pupils experienced... a double goose-pimpling awaits the winner and those who make the worthwhile visit to "Grumpy" next time Condition Report The all important STOCK copy labels belie it age, retaining the rich red vibrancy, lost on copies that have been handled during the DJ duels over the decades, view the scans and salivate at it's beauty. The play surfaces are spectacularly clean, i've searched and only detected a couple of ultra fine hairlines, sleeve contact freckles, a strong Mint - £1,311.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:06 Listen Sam Dees Lonely For You Baby / I Need You Baby SSS International: 732 (45s) A rhythmic drum tapping blends seamlessly with booming bass guitar rhythm, beckoning the pianist to stroke some arousing key notes.. for the most-inviting of Northern Soul intros For a dancefloor-detonator elevate your set, just in time as the room becomes a heaving mass of shoulder to shoulder euphoria..Sam Dees's commanding gnarled vocal shudders the speakers.. After that Mr. DJ the room is yours.. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL !!! and some.. Condition Report Spectacular condition, except for one solitary very light retrieve-slip surface hairline, this disc is perfection and plays so. both labels are unblemished. Disc plays MINT both sides, no sign whatsoever of the NS Soul turntable fatigue most copies have suffered over the decades. £1,671.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:06 Listen Trinikas Black Is Beautiful / Remember Me Pearce: 5828 (45s) RARE Oklahoma City Sister Soul smashing out two vital dance genres in one 45 (their last 45) as a tragic car crash robbed the Oklahoma/K.C. area of a most prodigious Soul Sister at the tender age of 16.. Kansas City's professor of FUNK Louis Chachere mentors Debbie Sheffield and team through two killer dancefloor experiences.. noting the equally elusive Centrury Record first take, does NOT carry the fantastic "Remember Me On the Flipside" Check out these two dynamic dancers, showcasing a young girl with buckets of attitude and zeal, two sessions that capture the freedom of youth; as Debbie hits home her message loud and clear; leaving you in no doubt the Trinikas were a very special outfit that would have become a huge act to reckon with. Slow start "Black Is Beautiful" literally explodes into action..after the lead has spoke her sermon on how beautiful "black" is.. Flip it over for an ironically entitled "Remember Me" a haunting Funky edged mid-tempo shrouded in pain. The voice playing out the torture of love.. Find to better Soul girl-group tunes on one disc if you can, listen to this gathering spill their hearts onto the floor.. Proper Soul dance and a real-deal rarity Condition Report Two clean labels, to do check out the faded writing top left on the A-side, hardly visible but there. Flipside label is unblemished. Vinyl reveals only a few delicate hairlines, angled and re-angled under strong light, none affecting play, plays Mint minus (listen) and visually so close to Mint minus £408.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:00 Listen Wendy Rene After Laughter Comes Tears / She's Moving Away Stax: 154 (45s) What a loss to Soul Music when Mary Frierson (Wendy Rene) decided to leave Stax and devote herself to her Church Choir. A unique voice that with her brother Johnny released two extremely rare 45 on Volt with the 4 member group The Drapels. Then 3 solo 45s for Stax only one having any impact with "Bar-B-Q" becoming a popular club play, both sides of the Atlantic. "After The Laughter" lay in obscurity for decades, it wasn't until those who dug deep to find "lost" greats, to integrate into their own new productions, that the standout talent of Wendy Rene became know across the workd. Notably more recently this Brother & Sister Frierson composition has been part of songs by Sweet Tea, Alborosie etc. Even film producers and advertising agents began using Wendy Rene's work to promote their work.. Thus "After Laughter Comes Tears" has become an highly sought-after 45 to own. Spawning a album release of all of Wendy's work as a solo artist and within the group The Drapels. Over 40 years after she left the home of Stax Wendy was at last receiving recognition.. Today is a window for ownership of her most-wanted 45, that has become very hard to acquire in acceptable condition.. PS do not overlook the equally fabulous Deep Soul flipside Condition Report Two clean label, mild storage rub on the ring-crest of the label (see scan) both sides are free of writing, tears, stains or stckers. Vinyl reveals multiple light hairines, plays predominately clean, occasion background tick, not spoiling that impressive vocal in the least. £184.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:00 Listen Michael Boothman Touch Waiting For Your Love / What You Won't Do For Love Touch : t 001 (45s) 1980 Barbados D.I.Y. session, crafting two equally impressive Modern Soul dancers featuring Charmaine Forde enriching the vocals.. I wasn't sure which side to lead with, as both sides are deliciously slick dancers you could play either and be sure of an enthusiastic response... Let's start with the slick "Waiting for your Love" that avoided any commercial "disco" influences and getting the nod for the a-side Mr. Touch. The impressive vocals mix, using a girl answering chorus integrated into a intrecately jazzy dance track with Charmaine Forde taking her impressive voice up a notch at every opportunity; then an inspired bongo and guitar break soldering the session together for top-drawer Soulful dance... high quality for a private adventure by the producer. It is gratifying to witness two strong sides on one 45, as Michael Touch could easily have split this into two different 45's.. instead of hiding a sold "club-dancer" on a flipside. The "What You Won't Do For Love " has more club cliches in the mix, but not too many causing "Disco" overload, just the occasional nod gives this recording enough integrity to make me stop and have to decide which side did I want to present first. A two for the price of one very small run limited press from 37 years ago.. what's not to love Condition Report Mint minus vinyl, both sides unblemished. Both sky blue labels are clean (see scans) of this pristine copy. £173.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:00 Listen Gallahads I've Got To Find A Way / Once I Had A Love Beech Wood: 5000 (45s) Rare Los Angeles vocal-group Northern Soul with the highly sought after Doo Wop trophy on the flipside.. It doesn't happen too often, but just like the coveted Jimmy and the Sundials 45, The Gallahads disc on Beech Wood gives up two extremely desirable recording from two of the world's most dedicated collectors scenes. Top side is a thumping slab of Miles Grayson guided Northern Soul I last heard Phil Shields play at the Rugby Ben Hall allniter. Boy, when I heard this in the authentic surrounds of this Top venue I was transported back to my youth when spine-tingling turntable experiences were why we stayed up all night.. Milres Grayson constructs the very essence of the authoritative Northern Soul Sound. Ratting drums collide with brutal brass, then tight harmony vocals take the reins to ride you through "proper" Northern Soul. Soaring vocals, towering horns pierce the air, low blows of the trombone bring you to a tumultuous instrumental break, that epitomizes the Northern Soul sound at it's most motivating. Full marks Mr. Shields for always pushing the envelope, with choice examples of Rare Dance Soul.. Flip it over and the USA and European vocal-group/Low Rider fans will be slipping into a harmony-haven as Miles Grayson again mentors a masterpiece. Seamlessly skilled flood of vocals, carefully laced into a precise arrangement, which is lifted to yet another level, at the end by an ice-chilled falsetto taking to the air.. so soulful we all can understand why this side is also is held in such high regard . Condition Report Two clean labels, no writing, tears, stickers to spoil the view, just very mild aging to the white background. Vinyl is very, not quite mint minus but only the finest few minuscule hairlines can be detected angled under string light. A fabulous example of one seldom seen promo. £369.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:00 Listen Darrell Banks Angel Baby (Don't You Leave Me) / Look Into The Eyes Of A Fool Atlantic : 584120 (45s) A listing for those who are forever upgrading British Soul OCD collectors seeking perfection, this is as close as it gets..for a record that's been a Soul Club classic since it's UK release in 1967. On the topside Gene Redd considers a Motown composition that Stevie Wonder laid onto his magnificent "Down To Earth" album, written by that fruitful duo Sylvia Moy & Henry Cosby, a great LP but one of Stevie's lesser successes. That was a great pick, such a great song and not obviously recognized as just another Motown cover version by the public. Gene Redd's the Revilot team and Darrell's seamlessly dynamic vocal craft a very special 60's dance Soul record... So much so, we can all sing the lyrics almost off by heart. But what about that overlooked flipside that from the first note turns your head.. as the Darrell Banks voice takes to the air.. and the Revilot team conjure up so magic again.. THis side certainly has oodles of millage as a Northern Soul rerun.. the a-side is of course an underplayed NS anthem.. we love those neglected turntable drops that trigger euphoric recall... don't we.. PS Gene Redd of course a few years later went onto to become a legendary producer with his huge success as Kool & The Gang's mentor.. Condition Report I never thought I'd ever encounter a copy in this impeccable condition, as it is a record that's too good to be just sitting filed away. Both labels are flawless (see scans), housed in the correct UK wavy-top Polydor (Atlantic) sleeve. Vinyl has full as-new gloss, two fine hairlines on side A, B side has a solitary hairline blemish. So close to MINT it hurts.. £101.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:00 Listen Home Of The Blues #5 # 5 - September / October 1966 / . Home Of The Blues: 5 (MAG) Arguably the most historical issue in the whole lifespan of Home Of The Blues & Blues & Soul as it documents Otis Reddings first British Tour in September 1966 when Ready, Steady Go TV show dedicated a whole program to him. Editor John Abbey really had his finer on the pulse, you can see why he lifted this fanzine up into a worldwide no. 1 glossy music magazine for Soul music.. Today these Home Of The Blues fanzines, are like the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles to the Soul collectors who want to delve into the roots of the British love-affair with Soul. This edition besides covering the most-important Soul artist tour to date, also reviews top-artists of the time: Solomon Burke, Al TNT Braggs, Bobby Bland, Major Lance & Otis Redding covering biography, discography, live performances, tour dates etc. Black & White glossy artist photos of Otis Redding, Solomon Burke, Major Lance & Al TNT Braggs #Reviews 1966 USA releases like The Commands - Hey It's Love, Troy Marrs - Rhythm Message etc. UK new release 45's makes super interesting reading with 45s by Spidells, Santells, Little Milton, Birdlegs & Pauline, Loretta Williams, Leon Haywood, Rex Garvin etc. receiving reviews from an enthusiastic editor..and so much more in this 32 page Soul report.. Yes, if you want to delve into the past and get the truth how Soul music captured the imagination of 1,000s of the British Youth.. Home Of The Blues is an essential read.. Besides that these publications are dog-rare and so hard to acquire in fine condition. Condition Report Hardly a blemish anywhere, certainly no tears, writing, stains or loose pages. This is as good as you could ever hope to find condition. £33.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:00 Ester Byrde Touch Me - Take Me / Tracks Of Love Survival : SUR 1 (45s) Rare 70's British Soul at it's utmost compelling... Sultry Soulful Stepper of the sexiest kind, an alluring lead voice beckons; your attention is captured whilst Ester pulls you in, assisted by siren-esque ladies, holding her irresistible tones aloft with their floating choruses. Soul has never been so seductive, as the song slowly but surely intensifies until Ester takes over your consciousness. She purrs the "Touch Me - Take Me" so convincingly, arousal is just a moment away.. This British Soul at it's most exquisite, the immense Sister vocal is so beguiling, along with such a convincing arrangement; My mind was wafted off to bedroom and not just with Ester... I could not possibly have that girl choir left out.... Spectacular previously unplayed condition, I've now played it very carefully 5 times a row....for reasons I'm not willing to share.. The flip is a backing-track instrumental version, giving you the rare opportunity to ask the wife and some of her friends to sing it to sing it to you... There is another not so rare version, a remake in 1978 by Rita Wright on UK Jet, not nearly as good as this original... Condition Report Before the sound-file was lifted for this auction listing, this rare PROMO disc had never been played. MINT condition throughout, sparkling rich GOLD text... perfection, you could not hope for a more perfect example £161.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 11/10/2017 18:00 Listen © 2017 John Manship Records. 10. Tommy Bush I Don't Like It ( But I Love You / Ain't No Guessing Game Rika: 108 (45s) The bright green Foxy lady beckons you... Come join her on a journey on a stomping expedition into an uncompromising testament of desperation he don't like it but he loves her is his relentless mantra as his bombarded wit a barrage of brass... Honkin' horns collide with Tommy Bush's tonsil shattering vocal, this is unstoppable Northern Soul, a floor destroyer taking none alive, no prisoners, no place for the cautious NS dancer.. this is a moment for the brave to express themselves as they get caught in a torrent of Los Angeles Northern Soul.. No respite for the dancer, they will need to be prepared, ready, qualified, foot-sure and fit... This is no retirement-home play, it's a turntable-terrorist for the authentic NS All Nighters, like Rugby Ben Hall as this 45 encapsulates everything that draggerd us into a lifetime of All-Nite dance.. that still being played out most weekends today.. THIS IS AUTHORITATIVE NORTHERN SOUL for those who appreciate a dance-intensity very few 45's can delivery or the beauty of label that's been burned into your brain since the first time you laid your eyes on it... RARE, beautiful and flawless.. PS The flipside is worthy of your attention also.. Condition Report That iconic Rika label is flawless on both sides, the bright green Foxy lady and her eye catching surroundings are totally unblemished. Likewise the Christmas of 1965 vinyl is also impeccably flawless M-/ M- throughout. You will not see a finer copy! £842.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:12 Listen Twisted Wheel Twisted Wheel 21st. of November 1969 Mail shot.. / Percy Sledge Live, Twisted Wheel Club member event card, the original envelope, the Twisted Wheel Event flyer for October, November, December 1969 Twisted Wheel: Twisted Wheel 21st. of November 1969 Mail shot.. (Magazine) Twisted Wheel club member mailshot! Complete with the original franked envelope dated 21st. of November 1969 all in the exact condition it was when first opened, returned to the inside of the envelope and kept in a drawer for nearly 50 years.. This Twisted Wheel time-capsule includes the October, November & December Soul act lineup.. it reads like a tempting array of classic Soul artists. Noting back in 1969 the DJ names never got a mention. A black & white Percy Sledge Live poster + the rarest item in this stunning package is the 1969 Club fold over card with the forthcoming attractions inside.. Northern Soul memorabilia does not get any more historic than this, an iconic club's mail shot still in the same condition it was mailed out in I'd rate these as Museum pieces in the Northern Soul hall of fame building... yet to be built. Condition Report Flawless in every way, taken straight out of the very envelope it was mailed in, the larger posters obviously have light creases which we can iron smooth if you wish but we thought for authenticity it looks fantastic to see the folds of 48 years ago.. £206.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:06 Listen Willie Hutch Love Runs Out / The Duck Dunhill: 4012 (45s) Look, then listen..simply the greatest Northern Soul double-hit you could ever experience... Absolutely NOTHING I can say, will have you any more excited than you already are.. A Northern Soul bucket list disc in it's irresistible clothes.. Condition Report Black Stock copy of the greatest Northern Soul double sider ever made..the West Coast styrene press with some light surface marks.. I've just enjoyed reliving one of my top five all time favorites, checking carefully any stylus pops or ticks. The intro is clean and clear. Then an occasional mild pop can be heard if you can stop dancing for a moment and listen carefully. But it's musical brilliance comes through like a hurricane, then that sax break will have you forgetting those few ticks in the first part. But do listen carefully you will hear not a trace a stylus fatigue, as I believe this disc was a relatively recent USA acquisition, so bypassing the rigors of the Northern Soul circuit.
Strap yourself in before you listen to the flipside..as "The Duck" is about to take flight, vinyl surface is in similar condition occasional background tick..drowned out by the maelstrom soulful onslaught

Then view those labels scans, we suggest the guys take the laptop to your man cave, have some private time with hardcore vinyl porn... don't be embarrassed we've all been guilty... at some time or other..
£2,011.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:02 Listen Inuz Moore Trouble / If It Ain't One Thing It's Another Gardin: 501 (45s) A drop of the real-stuff for those of you seeking the really obscure 45's. Northern Soul fans will adore the "Trouble" side, whilst R&B devotees will be more drawn to flipside, for an excellent jumpin' R&B growler from Bluesman Inuz. This disc is as obscure as they come, I'm suspecting a Los Angeles area, early 60's session but have certain no certain idea; as the only two 45's I've ever encountered on the Gardin label were both by Inuz Moore and neither has any label or deadwax info to investigate. This is how we all like our offerings, interesting, mystifying, dark and curious. But this 45 is so much more than just rare! Both sides offer the DJ muscular 60's dancefloor ammunition, both differing in styles but both sodden in what it takes to keep 'em on the floor..and get the collector peering over the decks... Trouble is an insistent hunk of proper Northern Soul, Inuz Moore never for a moment easing off the peddle, as it's momentum gathers even more power as he snarls out his troubled thoughts into the relentless arrangement.. Flip it over and Inuz again is full up with resentment, despair and anger..the R&B production is perfect for him let it all go.. in a tirade of "If It Ain't One Thing It's Another" fabulous R&B juggernaut that not only compliments the A-side it also equals it for dancefloor destruction. Two bulldozers waiting for the right gig to just rip it up... p[potential for either side is HUGE! Condition Report Not a blemish on either of these two fine clean and utterly obscure labels. Vinyl is equally clean M- / M - throughout. £223.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:02 Listen Darrell Banks Open The Door OF Your Heart / Our Love ( Is In The Pocket ) Stateside : SS 526 DJ (45s) Eye Candy for the British collector ..A pulse quickening vision of vinyl beauty. Nothing I can say about this Northern Soul anthem could elevate it any higher that it already placed in the hearts & minds of the Northern Soul community... What I can reiterate is we doubt we'll ever be able to offer a more perfect copy than the one that staring back at you today.. If your vinyl collecting priorities are Condition, Condition, Condition, do not miss an very rare opportunity to own near perfection of what is perhaps the single greatest contribution to the Northern Soul ear.. 2 x over. Or miss the chance of the miss spelled a-side title "Open The Door OF Your Heart" after EMI went to such great lengths to secure UK right after Decca thought it was all the theirs to run with.. Decca's failure to dot the "I's" and cross the "T's" let slip one of EMI's contasted seller from 1966 to 1972 EMI constantly repressed and reissued to meet the demand this Twisted Wheel anthem had sparked.. But before you today is the FIRST BORN, very, very rare and such a flawless baby.. Condition Report A truly stunning copy, two unblemished labels, immaculate vinyl, easily the finest copy we've ever encountered in memory. FLAWLESS condition, nobody will ever require an upgrade if they can secure ownership on this Northern Soul anthem. £411.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:00 Listen Bernie Moore Which Way To Turn / I'm Still A Lonely Soldier Lark: 103 (45s) Let's get serious.. Rarest Of The Rare Detroit Northern Soul one side and one of the greatest Carib Soul Ballads ever created on the flipside Two sides to die for, and only a handful people on Planet Earth own a copy of this 45 that gives-up pure undiluted Soul quality on both sides.. Let's visit the A-side first. An emotional vocal with that slight crack at the back of his throat that transforms his diction, from a plea to on-your-knees-beseeching, perspiring palpable Soul on every note. But being Detroit, it had to have those gliding girl group voices cradling his every word.. then comes the compelling break of rattling drums and hand-claps, then enters the saxophonist and an inventive Harp pluck or two.. this is a recording that contradicts it's humble street level beginnings.. local indie Detroit again proving the wealth of talent on the streets of the Motor City.. one helluva slab of proper Northern Soul with a rarity pedigree second to none.. If you thought that side was good.. just listen to the flip..and weep A soaring group harmony, gives way to an imploring man, anchored by anguish as the celestial girl and vibes try to inject a uplifting flow, that may take your mind of his tortured heart.. Beat Ballad Paradise as he convincing us war has robbed his chance of love.. Was he a soldier on leave, when he recorded this masterpiece, did he go back to Vietnam? Bernie makes it all so very real, with a passionate delivery of his emotions. Only truly awesome records motivate you to say I don't really think I'm worthy of reviewing such sincere misery.. THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SOUL RECORDS I've ever heard, it has swallowed me whole, I'm now engulfed in this "soldiers" hopeless situation... Condition Report STOCK COPY no DJ stamping on either label. very light h2o splash on the a-side label (text unaffected) a couple of light spots on b-side label (see scans). Press in highly quality vinyl and supremely mastered, there are a few mild hairlines to see, but both sides play PERFECT check out the two sound-files. I know like me you'll will be blown away.. both sides play Mint visually Ex. All the correct matrix markings to validate it's Detroit origins. £2,761.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:00 Listen Gwen McCrae 90% Of Me Is You President : PT 416 DJ (45s) A listing for those of you who demand perfection whilst building you collection of stand-out Soul dance tunes. 1974 UK press as the rarely seen PROMO copy of Gwen's most wanted 45. Take a listen to her softly purring feline vocal glide through a string saturated string arrangement whilst a solid mid-tempo dance beat stimulates the feet and mind. Sleek girl chorus decorates the proceeds, with Gwen's vocal has just enough conviction to convince you of her concern of the love-gambit her man as sprung upon her. An exquisite tune, an enticing dancer, that again was one of the last of it's kind, as T.K. too joined the disco bandwagon.. A killer tune in the exceptional state of vinyl-virginity, sporting that coveted big Red "A" on the other side, as the T.K. executives failed to recognize a masterpiece unfolding on the flip... Condition Report A flawless previously unplayed DEMO still housed in it's wavy-top birth-sleeve, near perfection awaits the new owner.. as this 45 has lay in storage for the last 43 years after it President promo mail shot dropped through a British DJ's door. Just a merest of sleeve contact hairlines can be detected under light..plays perfect, looks immaculate. £73.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:00 Listen Isley Brothers Who's That Lady / My Little Girl United Artists: 714 (45s) In 1973 Ronald, O'Kelly & Rudolph Isley enjoyed their biggest worldwide success since the 60's, when they decided to revamp their little known 1964 writing "Who's That Lady" ignored at the time by New York's record buying public. Near ten years later, in the California summer of 1973 they were reunited with original New York producer Bert Berns to reconstructed what they knew was a truly great song, tweaking the title to "That Lady" the Isleys & Bert achieve monster success which is now consider a Soul classic and Rolling Stones Magazine as worthy of entry into the top 500 greatest songs of all time. So what about this frustratingly rare 1964 first take, that been received lots of Northern Soul action for near two decades, with never quite enough copies to go round to spark nationwide monster status but repeatedly filling the dancefloors and always generating questions of who, what, why every time I play it out..it has been a regular choice of play in my sets for a number of years as I always known, it's a mood changer, a conversation starter.. and familiar enough to bring people to the dancefloor.. Infectious New York Latin rhythms, a gently whirling Hammond intro, bongos and additive guitar picks.. the typically slick Isley harmonies, with the inquisitive lead vocal painting a picture of "one sexy lady" they need to meet; Then the two horm breaks elevate the song yet again into very special Bert Berns collaboration that was an unanticipated flop back in 1964.. No wonder they decided to revamp for the pre-disco market in 1973... I still much prefer this rare take it has style and the power to command a full dancefloor. Condition Report Both labels have very light storage rub, the the black background; but free of stains, tears, stickers or writing. The vinyl surfaces only reveal some light hairlines to the eye when angled in the light. Full gloss finish, mild surface hairline, play back is bright, clean & clear (check out the impression soundfile) £211.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 04/10/2017 18:00 Listen Various Artists Singing The Blues / 1961 UK EP London: REP 1493 (EP) A fabulous copy of this seldom send 1961 British EP complete with the stunning art-cover depicting a New Orleans French Quarter balcony. 11. Thanks for the reply Kev. "A Lil' Lovin" is, in my opinion, a brilliant vocal performance. A record that is one of my favorites. Did he have a successful career? I hope so. I also hope that he aware of the high regard his work is held in.

The oppening drum blow signals blaring brass to take to the air..then a naive but determined Sister vocal attacks the production, with a shrill voice knowing exactly what she wants.. her school girlfriends coo, woo away wit the background chorus.. but this tune is growing and you know this is just the beginning of something awesome.. The nice girl chorus is more urgent, as it spears the air.. chanting woo-woos as Marilyn gets to the point with a provocative "I'm Just a Teenager" "But I Know What I Want" whilst the Girl chorus takes on a more muscular stance and Northern Soul takes off...Full on Foot-To-The-Floor high-octane Northern Soul at it most motivational. There has been many theories why this 45 is so insanely rare, as it is darn good. Other than the rumor this young gal got pregnant before the release, ironic to say the least. I think the simple answer to it insane rarity the label was coming to an end..about to be wounded up as a loss making exercise as they never again achieve the success "Barefootin'" brought to the table..20 releases earlier. I'#m thinking hardly any copies pressed or left the distributors as the death throws of the Nola label had their final breath.. One of the greatest Northern Soul 45's ever to emerge from New Orleans, and certainly one of the most potent Sister Northern Soul 45's ever! A once in a lifetime "Grail"... you know what you have to do Condition Report Vinyl has some mild surface marks, but as you can hear it plays loud, imposing and clean. Visually Ex plays Ex +. A-side label is a clean Ex+, flipside label has a minuscule "silverfish" nibble just to the left of the 741 release number. £1,467.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen Rudy Lambert Jamboree / I'll Do It Junior: 1002 (45s) The same Bay Area R&B man who provided us with that elusive R&B grinder "Love" on on Club 7. Presents us with an off-the-scale-rare R&B 45 that only a very few DJ's and collectors can boast of owning.. R&B as rare as you like it and then some... Was the Bay Area university town of Berkeley ready for such an moody down n'dirty dance groove. Pulling you into a whirlpool of R&B exotica. A filthy rare tune capturing the mood of the early 60's, evoking vision mysterious local clubs where this "Jamboree Dance" would have been played out. Lines of hand-clappin' dancers strolling the dancefloor, as a sultry saxophone whines away assisting a deeply rich vocal, soulfully moaning his way through a atmospheric R&B weirdness Fabulous street-level individualism at it's best, with A-list DJ 's like New York's MIchael Robinson firmly behind it's turntable exposure... if you desire ownership of a validated rarity, which we don't ever expect to encounter again. This blend of R&B/Popcorn/Soul is it. they don't come any harder to acquire than this from the streets D.I.Y. mini-press from 1962 ? Condition Report surface marks gives up some light background noise, which is drowned out by Rudy booming vocal and the insistent sax.. The rich blue label has had at some point in it's life, water contact causing light "paling" of the blue in places (see scan). Vinyl has multiple fine surface hairlines from a life outside it's sleeve. Listen to the full soundfile provided. We only list less than Excellent 45's on our auctions, unless they are super rare. In the case of this disc, it is the first copy we have ever had, it is currently coveted by one of the world's top rare-soul DJ's and we don 't expect to ever see another. This disc at best is vg only but most likely your only chance of ownership...ever! £234.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen Sandy Wynns I'll Give That To You / You Turned Your Back On Me Simco: 30001 (45s) Not only this Northern Soul princess's rarest 45 by a long way. This seldom seen double-hitter is almost a Manship MINT! From the desk of prolific song writer Jesse Herring who crafts yet another flowing 60's dance groove. This time enlisting the truly splendid voice of Edna Wright festoon with heavenly girl backing vocals, soaring horns pump up the atmosphere as the cooing girls enrich everything. What a tune, so very good, it again begs the question why this never reached the status of Northern Soul classic, that some inferior NS plays have achieve. This only answer again can be this record has suffered from it's own unavailability, otherwise without question something this instant, this good would surely have risen t Casino Classic prominence and no doubt there would now be 70's bootlegs of it selling for healthy sums all over the internet.. The truth is back in Northern Soul heyday not too many DJ's owned a copy to play, and today many serious collectors and DJ have never had this 45 in their possession. Which brings me to the delicious flipside that remains right off the radar.. a stroller which showcasing the ease of the Sandy Wynns vocal, with Jesse Herring and team capturing hints of Motown in it's construction.. Two genuinely classy girl-sounds presented here in the best possible condition.. Condition Report Two Perfect promo labels, vinyl is astonishingly flawless, just a few minuscule hairlines revealed under strong light, all housed inside it's birth sleeve. We doubt we'll ever witness a finer copy! £272.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen Tommy and The Derby's Don't Play The Role / Handy Andy Swing: 1001 (45s) In distinguished velvety voice of Tommy Tate always captures attention but when it is presented through his most-wanted 45, the pulse races.. Butch's former cover-up still sends shivers of pleasure through your being, the imaginative intro, those soaring girl choruses are an exquisite backdrop for Tommy to lace his superior vocal through...a gently rising production that grabs you by the neck, dragging you to the dancefloor to be immerse in superior Northern Soul. Rattling piano, orgasmic girl deliver one of the most effective girl choruses ever, and then it builds to a most marvelous crescendo towards the end, leaving you elated at it's perfectness. Just a piano and Tommy Tate's purring would be enough to send in into another world, but this recording is drenched in "Northern Soul Moments" of brilliance.. It has everything you desire in a NS great, expect your ownership.. Condition Report Nice gloss, some light hairlines under light, a solitary turntable retrieve surface mark from a hasty fingernail, just cosmetic, NOT affecting play. Check the irresistibly sound-file lifted from this disc. Labels are free of writing, stain, tears just carries expected surface blemishes for it's age (see scans) £2,022.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen Patrice Holloway Love And Desire / Ecstasy Capitol: CL15484 (45s) The sound of 1966 Los Angeles Sister Soul served up by ex-Motown starlet Patrice Holloway. Brenda's sister eclipses some of Motown's own with this Page brothers production. Billy "In Crowd" Page and brother Gene between them have created some of Northern Soul's most memorable recordings, this session certainly giving birth to not one but two killer Motownesque NS dancers. That of course graced the groundbreaking turntables of The Twisted Wheel and went on to blossom into one of Britain's most-wanted Soul 45's. Patrice's much deliberated short stay over at Motown, the premature curtailment of her Motor City career certainly never had anything to do with her voice.. just like her sister Brenda, Patrice sung like an Angel. Perfect diction, timing and expression, featured on all her too few recordings, for such an exceptional voice.. This 45 gives up two stunning Northern Soul dancers which are just as good as each other. It matters not a jot which side you drop the arm on, this is a DJ pick that requires no thought , both sides saturated in the Northern Soul sound... so don't miss this 45 rarest most gorgeous form - the British Red & White Demo! Condition Report vinyl has full gloss, there is a small "crescent" shaped mark on the a-side which does not affect play. B-side vinyl reveals a few light hairlines under strong light. Both sides play totally clean (listen) to the impressive dounle sound file from this disc. A-side Red "A" label has a faded almost invisible 31 on the label just above the NOT FOR SALE text (see scan) center hole has light wear. A red & white vision, giving up just the best girl Northern Soul possible. £250.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen Jewels We Got Togetherness / I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles MGM: K13577 (45s) BLACK STOCK COPY! This Northern Soul anthems least seen, most coveted form. I first heard this runaway train, played I think by Kev Roberts at a Notts Palais all-dayer in the early 70's. A stunning New York first discovery for Kev, I'm thinking. From new discovery to Northern Soul gargantuan in just a few weeks as it speedy rhythms were exactly what the All niter crowd craved at the time. Simultaneously a monster at both Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier. But back then I only ever saw the yellow promo copies; Ian Levine's preference for the more colourful release copies of Northern Soul 45's, went against what most collectors coveted.. but Ian's different stance, encouraged more and more collectors to seek out the rare stock copy 45's on Decca, Brunswick, Kapp, MGM etc. as "blacks" witnessed in a "label run" are so very attractive. So here is a record in it's "black" clothes that is part of the very fabric of Northern Soul, it's history and it's racing sound, that the dancers required to use up all that energy those little pills had provided.. This is real Northern Soul of it's time. This is a seldom seen STOCK copy looking so inviting still in it's birth sleeve.. Noting this slab of relentless Northern Soul, comes from Bobby & Peggy Baskerville no strangers to stomping rhythms, check out Bobby's "Dot" 45 another steamrollering experience. Condition Report Vinyl has light surface hairlines, plays clean excellent (listen) visually vg+, both labels are flaw free, except the usual tiny cut-out bb drill the majority of these MGM 60's 45s were subject to. £161.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen Invitations What's Wrong With Me Baby ? / Why Did My Baby Turn Bad Dynovoice: 210 (45s) There are Northern Soul classics, then there are records you would take to the grave with you, as being some of the greatest recordings you ever heard. Indelible from the very first listen to the last, triggering euphoric recall from the Soul times of your wonder years..life defining songs that steered you on a path, you have seldom veered from and always come back.. "What's Wrong With Me Baby" is one of those Soul club experiences you never forget, I remember with a little flutter in the stomach the first Stateside UK press I ever owned, and I treasured it! It was after all one of the most-wanted 45 in the UK for a very long time during the late 60s. But before you today is a different vision, a flawless Mint minus USA press still in it's birth-sleeve. This listing is not just about how dear to Northern Soul hearts this Charlie Calello steered masterpiece is, it's is about the spanking condition. Take note of the two unblemished labels, sitting inside an uncommon Dynovoice cover, just beautiful but the climax comes when the 45 leaves the sleeve, glistening vinyl that's hardly seen a turntable. Just a few very mild sleeve contact hairlines take it just a whisker away from Mint! One for the Northern Soul top 500 Classic chasers, who's paramount concern is condition and want the best looking their very best.. this is it! In 2017 a gleaming Invitations - What's Wrong With Me Baby - is a sight to savoir Condition Report As described above, we are very unlikely to ever find a finer copy! £164.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen John Parker A Big Mistake / Just a Thing Called Love Brunswick: 55427 (45s) A rarely encountered and gorgeous "sample" BLACK stock copy housed in the correct Brunswick sleeve. Here's a record shrouded in mystery, the writer and the producer seem to only have this 45 credited to them (maybe a pseudonym) because both sides offer up such high quality Soul that surely this can't be Samuel Stewart's first attempt at making a record, and John Parker could be anybody off a long list of John Parker's involved in music, one thing we do know for certainly it is not the respected British Soul collector / DJ John Parker... as there's no hint of a North Of England accent in those touching lyrics It may be steeped in obscurity and present us with vinyl conundrum, but isn't that how we all like it... Because this John Parker delivers a vocal delicacy, that surely could only be served up by a seasoned Soul man. Likewise those sympathetic horns could only have been directed by a talented producer.. "A Big Mistake" for me is one of the finest "Sunday Chill Out" candidates on the circuit at this moment. That's why any copies were snapped up a long since. To hear Soulful quality of this level is not an every day occurrence! A mood-changing delight, that digs deep into your senses drawing out those emotions that shaped you as a Soul Guy/Girl in the first place...ideal for Carib Soul, Feed Your Soul, Horse and Groom, Tuff Love, Diggin' Deeper etc. are all illuminated by this style of Pure Soul.. In contrast the flipside, in an upbeat slab of Northern Soul again all the better for those blasting horns, that takes on a more "Latin" stance as that expressive vocal ups the pace, for a solid dancer dripping in charm.. So who are you Mr. John Parker, and who is Samuel Stewart? There is no way Soul of this calibre is created by "beginners" ... is there? Condition Report Those seldom seen BLACK labels; the side we lead with has a "Sample" sticker on it, flipside carries an X (see scans). Vinyl has a couple of faint surface brushes (one each side) neither affecting play. So close to Mint - (sound is Mint) A mighty clean copy inside the correct Brunswick sleeve. A beautiful looking 45. £81.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 27/09/2017 18:00 Listen © 2017 John Manship Records. All Rights Reserved. Privacy Policy. Website Made by iWeb |
15. You would expect it to sell easily at £300. The Jay Traynor is one of those records that folks think of at a certain price from years ago simply because it doesn't come up for sale very often. Great record in my opinion and it is not a "niche" sound and so has a wide audience. Put the price in context with other ABC Demo's for popular records and I think you should sell at £500. Particularly in the light of some prices asked for in the sales forum last week.
16. Hi Pete, JM has had one up at £450 for a little while without shifting it (unless he has a couple). And there's that Looky-Likey one available for not very much (as seen on ebay currently!) So, not sure where that leaves the current price
17. Ronnie McNeir Sitting In My Class / Isn't She A Pretty Girl De To: DS 2878 (45s) Whilst "Sitting In My Class" is of course a timeless Northern Soul classic of the highest standing... but mine and many others preference to play is the magnificent "Isn't She A Pretty Girl" Northern Soul Detroit Crossover, that is again on the comeback trail.. Floyd Jones and Billy Kyle's inspired "School Bell" provoked a dance-floor feast at all the leading All Nite clubs circa 1977/78. With Ronnie's hopefully charged vocal dreaming of making love to the girl in the next row... whilst for me at school it was always gonna be the teacher.. This was a record we could all relate to, having not been too long before, when we sat there wishing, in that exact same situation..such was the attraction of this innovative song, the flipside somehow got overlooked.. So step forward the side which most now consider the "play" side today.. the gently jangling intro lasts but a few seconds, before big bold bold brass explodes onto the scene.. girls jostle for position, the horns blast even louder, the girls follow the hint to lift the arrangement another notch and brilliance unfolds.. whilst Ronnie keeps up the beseeching stance, as his vocal pleads even stronger.. just too much Soul!! Two sides to die for, remembering the legal reissue that follow it's success in the UK was a remixed version. The song suffering, weakening the whole arrangement and it's overwhelming Soulful opulnce, lost! So the only way to play this spectacular tune, is in it's authentic original form.. unless spinning a bootleg doesn't concern you.. Here is a glorious rich Red first press offering up two sides of the original mix; and it matters not which side you drop the stylus on the result will be dancefloor devastation whichever you choose.. Condition Report Check out that flawless rich red label, this 45 has hardly seen the light of day. A-side vinyl has full gloss and is spanking new except for three solitary hairlines across the vinyl, very soft, light, only visual plays perfect. Flipside vinyl is a perfect Mint . £902.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:06 Listen Charles Farren You've Changed My Whole Life Around / A Girl Like You Hawk: 200 (45s) Bob Lee's neighborhood label has provided the Northern Soul collector with some seriously rare teasers to chase over the years. His penchant for the strong production is underlined by this snarling statement from a reformed man, Charles Farren as had his life turned around, and although his growling delivery does sound very joyous, he has found a woman's love, so good, he's stopped "Playing Around".. The signature Chicago male vocal presence, had the bar set high by Johnny Sayles, Syl Johnson etc. who's gnarled growls became part of the Northern Soul all niter fabric. Charles Farren on the street-level session matches any snarling vocal you care to mention, this propelled by honkin' horns make for a truly imposing dancer..that is slowly but surely making an impact on the scene, after snoozing as an occasionally played choice to pepper up a DJ set. Today this Chicago statement has disappeared from view a few years back and is now neatly perched for huge comeback. There is certainly no need to air inferior Northern Soul dancer whilst Chicago Soul-Salvos of this calibre wait in the wings.. Check out this potent onslaught of Northern Soul that would ignite such places as the trailblazing "Grumpy Soul" events in pandamonium.. REAL DEAL NORTHERN SOUL that lovers of the Johnny Sayles style may not be able to resist! Condition Report Two flawless yellow labels, no fade, writing, or tears. Vinyl is very close to Mint minus, strong light reveal a few sleeve contact blemishes that do not affect plays. Visually EX+ plays Mint minus £222.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:04 Listen Four Tops Ask The Lonely / Where Did You Go Tamla Motown: TMG 507 (45s) Arguably The Four Tops finest 45 Motown ever released, both sides encapsulating not only the more Soulful side of Motown but also capturing the very essence of the "Tops" sound with Levi Stubbs at his imperial best. Top song is help dear in the hearts of Motown & Northern Soul fans a like. One of the greatest "last records" of all time, carrying a flipside that is every note as good.. Nuff said, this listing is about finding an elusive TMG in the finest condition possible.. the recording speak for themselves. Nothing we could ever say would elevate this tune any higher than it already sits.. Condition Report Condition is eye-popping, for such an essential turntable experience, this 45 looks like it maybe hasn't been played. Only years of fine storage dust lay on the surface, sliding it out of it's birth-sleeve, we dropped into onto the VPI cleaning machine. Dust removed for a clearer view, there is not a single blemish worth a mention. As near to Mint unplayed you could wish for, a strong Mint minus. Labels are also flawless no spindle trails to see, all silver text bright and clean. 52 years old and looking like it's been filed in a collection since then, a highly cherished copy is as good as you could ever hope to own. £182.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:04 Listen Chuck Jackson What's With This Loneliness / Surf and Soul Kent : 6 T8 DJ (45s) Who can believe it was nearly 18 years ago when this previously unissued, silky mid-tempo was given away on the door of the 100 club to those lucky enough to attend this iconic club's 13th. Anniversary. No. 8 in this generous series of on the door give-away 45s, that triggered similar promotions across the country through the decades. But none captured the imgination of the collector quite like this, now highly coveted series. Each one handpicked by beloved promoter Ady Croasdale, each and every one a standout piece of Northern Soul. Today this stands for me as THE BEST and is starting to be revived, as the dancers just adore our heroes rich vocal, woven in a gently delivered blend of softly blown horns and rhythmic guitar.. simplistic genius allowing the full force of Chuck's l luxorious growl... One of the greatest Soul voices of all time, with an unissued Wand session, brought to the British Soul fraternity by the Ace/Kent family.. now rightly heralded as a classic, few people will ever part with. Personally, today it sits right there in my ever changing top 10 of all time.. always a delight to hear, and it's firmly on the comeback trail, filling the Northern Soul floors again. A 100 Club anthem that'll still be going strong decades from today.. Brilliant! Condition Report Two fine clean labels, vinyl to match. The important a-side has hardly a blemish, the flip side vinyl has a turntable "fingernail" retrieve mark NOT affecting play. overall grade is EX + £268.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen Colette Kelly City Of Fools / Long And lonely World Volt: VOA 4018 (45s) Warning, an addictive, contagious temptress is about to incarcerate you with her charms... Summer of 1969 saw this unusual production, released on Volt, that sunk without trace. Over the years on the back of at first tentative NS turntable action, it slowly but surely became a Northern Soul dancer floor favourite, with her beckoning voice fronting a perpetual chorus of poppin' backing vocals, laced into an uplifting dance production.. unforgettably distinct.. On another more intent listen, to a 45 we are all guilty of being dismissive about in the early days of more obvious Northern Soul. I'm being drawn into it's "siren" qualities, including a lengthy fabulous Saxophone break, followed by that choir insistently "Doo-woppin'" away in the background. Northern Soul clubs have always eventually warmed to "something different" but sadly for me, this became a NS biggie way after I'd long sold any copies I had for relatively paltry sums.. Today it's very sought-after and rightly so, I'm already on my fourth consecutive play, leaving me thinking what the hell was I looking for in a record back in the 80's. Because I adore this tune today.. made by two "unknowns" to this iconic label. Sam Unger & Mary Mullaney you sure made a magical dancer between you, an obcure collaboration I need to hear more about... The power of the Northern Soul DJ, the Northern Soul circuit return another 45 to my desk I should have paid far more attention to, when I had the chance. Then again Volt and the producers were just as blind as me, as they stuck this enslaving tune on the flipside... Condition Report A-side vinyl is flawless Mint - as is the label. Flipside label has a release date on the label 18th of July. Flipside vinyl has a few very mild hairlines but plays clear. £98.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen 100% Pure Poison Coming Right At You / You Keep Coming Back EMI: 3001 (LP) Original first press of Britain's most-wanted Soul album, insanely hard to acquire especially in this impeccable condition. A legendary modern Soul LP, directed by Chicago's talented Danny Leake, fortunately this production happened one year before the USA Disco explosion, providing the Soul fan with a pure 70's SOUL experience.. Amazingly this record was a UK only release and failed miserable like many debut albums by unknown artists, even in the 70's you had to be very lucky to encounter a copy... it's reputation growing as it's rarity began fully apparent. The seven man gathering that included Danny Leake, James Wells (both of whom Ian Levine worked with after this release) seamlessly deliver top-drawer Soulful dance, so check out the soundfile sample provided, underlining the exceptional Chicago influenced Soul set into those flawless grooves..inc: their "I Keep Coming Back" "My Little Someone" "(But You Say) You Want To Make It With Me" "Don't Let Your Pride, Overpower Your Love" "Puppet On a Chain" + 7 more This is for Soul collectors the UK's most-sought 70's LP and in the level of condition we are unlikely to ever encounter again.. impossibly flawless Condition Report From cover has the mildest signs of cazreful storage some minuscule, occasional age "spotting" to the light area towards the bottom front right-hand side (see scan). No other discernible flaws only a few very fine hairlines near the spine., top left corner. Back cover is free of any notable flaws. Cover is a strong EX +. Scrutinized the two scans. Both labels are Mint revealing not signs of spindle contact, all housed in orioginal poly-line inner sleeve.

The vinyl is spectacular, combined with the spindle's state of virginity, I don't think this album has been on a turntable on more than a handful of occasions. As near Mint as yuou could ever hope to own. £270.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen Tony Drake Suddenly / It Hurts Me More Brunswick: 55437 (45s) On the comeback trail, is this 1970 Chicago Crossover kill;er from the pen of Eugene Record and Barbara Acklin; aided by Chicago Soul masters Tom Washington & Willie Henderson the team craft a striking piece of end of a decade Soul. New decade, new approach ? As this dancer carries a few characteristics that no other Brunswick 45 are blessed with. Rattling bongo intro, tin drum tickles, Tony Drake purring away in the background poise to strike with the lyrics...some "cool" intro then it's lift off on a wave of strings, subtle brass, and jazz breaks collide with vocal-group chants of "Ooh, Arrh, Arhh, Pa Da, Ooh Pa, Dah " with Mr. Drake searing vocal upfront and fully in charge, with provocative saxophone intrusions.. ad up to CLASS... Currently in my personal favourite DJ set as it seamless links the Answers, Four Coins etc with that era between the 60s and 70's when producers pushed the envelope, creating more imaginative sounds.. This record is a unique in it's Chicago make=-up nothing sounds quite like it. AND IT FILLS THE FLOOR! We feel this rarity has a long way to go, recently hearing several others dropping the arm on, what has been in the past a forgotten jewel. In a packed room and a loud system nothing sounds like it...as proven last week at Grumpy Soul, it's affect on the dancefloor can be dramatic.. Some tune this is.. and not easy to find, especially in this fine, play perfect condition. PS do not overlooked Tony's silky delivery of a fabulous Van McCoy song on the flipside, a stunning mid-tempo that should feature in on of the Chill out Sundays.. Condition Report Both label are clean except for the rubber-stamped May 16 1970 release date, see scan housed in birth-sleeve. The vinyl plays perfect both sides. Under strong light inspection there are a few mild blemishes none of which transfer to the stylus.. Listen enjoy what it a wonderful example of Chicago Soul in transition £187.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen Fearns Brass Foundry Don't Change It / John White Decca: F 12721 (45s) 1968 Brit Soul with a huge local reputation, Leicestershire Soulful band renowned for their authoritative stage presence with their bludgeoning brass pumping out loud at the back of lead singer Steve Fearn's rich vocal. The residents of Blaby, Leicestershire must have dreaded Thursday evenings as this band plied their trade in Soul Sounds live, at Blaby Working Mens Club where they amassed a serious fan-base. Both sides written by their founder Steve Fearn who's taste for Soul is evident on both sides, with the A-side ticking all the boxes for Northern Soul play. Blasting brass kicks it off, insistent percussion smacks out the dance rhythm, horn breaks add to it's dance pedigree; with the rest of 6 man team chanting shrill "Hey, Hey, Hey" you have a awesome tune that is so very British. Shimmering with the late 60's era with groups like Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band, Jimmy James & The Vagabonds, The Senate, The Action etc. already laying down the guidelines for standout Brit-Soul a few years earlier. In recent time a recording that the Northern Soul has rediscovered through it's equally rare USA London release, credited as Fearns Foundary, and charmingly appearing in record guides as single artist Foundary, Fearns. So it seems not too much knowledge on the scene was acredited to thuis Leicestershire gathering. Here is their UK Decca release that only sold locally to the "Blaby" Thursday night trippers, consequently this is a hard disc to find in collectable condition.. Take a listen to that strapping lead vocal, the mountain of brass and backing vocals, you can easily imagine a Working Mens Club in 1968 absolutely jumping to this inspiring sound.. Condition Report Both labels are clean, original 4 prong die-cut center firmly in place, housed in UK Decca sleeve. Vinyl under strong light reveal some fine sleeve contact hairline but it is visually scratch free, no marks that could possible react with the stylus. £79.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen Herbert Hunter I Was Born To Love You / Push Away From The Table Spar: 9009 DJ (45s) There a few Northern Soul 45's that timelessly stand raised, above the timeless classics, records you would find it hard to grow weary of; and there a few Northern Soul 45's in their rare Promo form, have the presence to turn heads, fire discussion, painting your rival's frontal lobe a deep shade of green.. This premier slab of Nashville Northern Soul as a white promo is a special 45 indeed. I first heard this fabulous dancer, played by "Poke" at Cleethorpes Pier, amazingly it did take a few weeks to catch. Poke was persistent in his believe he had a special tune, we were all then on the trail to find a copy to play. That Golden era of 75/76 turned up some mighty, mighty tunes. But I can never remember a White Promo copy ever passing through my hands until many years later. Refresh your ears, on what "Poke" was so determined to play every set. Conversation stopping drum thwacks lift this dancefloor missile off, then that profound vocal gets to work on those memorable lyrics. Ted Jarrett then injects a masterstroke of vibes, followed by a "Over-The-Border" burst of trumpets, a long held note and Herbert is back... All these decades later it still gives goosebumps! The label & the music.... Condition Report Both labels are flaw free (see scans) vinyls have hardly a blemish, but do show light signs of play. You will like the clear depth of the fidelity, with no pops or clicks to spoil Herbet's booming performance. £461.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen Rebecca Lea The Devil Hates You / Willie Groove: 4G-0157 (45s) Northern Soul R&B aficionados here's a 45 that very seldom surfaces, and certainly never in this condition. The is a snarling slab of Sister sarcasm, an relentless R&B shaker that will have the room going as Rebecca Lea struts the house. A blistering vocal rides a foot-tappin', finger-poppin' rhythm, embellished with some of the most inspired saxphone manipulation you could ever wish to be dropped upon you. A wild-sax to match this untamed vocalist.. the result being intimidating mid-50's R&B you just can't help but dance too... On the flipside Rebecca drops the pace a notch, dropping in smoke filled, darkened cellar Night Club mode, evoking visions of a sassy lady in a star-spangled tight dress whipping up a storm as she struts the stage..no outrageous production this time just a voice that will stay with you a very long time once you've met it, and that saxophonist again stirs the senses A R&B winner just waiting for the right DJ to lift it off the ground, then we're p[predicting BIG THINGS.. for this memorable in breathtaking condition. Condition Report Flawless in every way, condition is like new, and that's utterly astonishing for such a rare disc, from 1956. High quality RCA press vinyl, rich fidelity, perfect sound. Unblemished labels, as good as it gets. £100.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen Margaret Mandolph Something Beautiful / I Wanna Make You Happy Planetary: P 106 (45s) a 1965 creation from one of Los Angeles's producing prodigies, at the tender age of 25 years David Gates was already displaying sign of studio genius. It was a flipside that simultaneously took Cleethorpes Pier & Wigan Casino by a storm, right at the zenith of the Girl Sound being a dance-floor force in the mid-seventies English All-Niters; Judy Street's "What" had rocketed to to top of the popularity stakes, with Margaret Mandolf not too far behind. With it's instantly recognizable piano intro, within seconds the dancefloor-dash was ignited. Intros as discussed before, were so important, so much so, this was one of the choices to start your set with. Just like Holly St. James the start-up to this classic, has the clarity and power to start your next hour with a full floor. BUt the start is only part of the story as David Gates adds ear-ringing tubular chimes in all the right places, punctuating an already instrument-saturated arrangement. Piano, Chimes, heavy percussion, shrill girl group choruses, then comes an inspirational break which elevates the tune into another Northern Soul level of hand-clapping, circle skirt spin, club-euphoria. Just classic stuff.. Having reminisced 1976, let's talk about the value in 2017 that's sits on the flipside, a recording that was passed by 40 years ago, but today sits at the top of wants lists around the world as being an essential Beat Ballad for the Carib Sound, The Sunday chill-out tune dripping with the same big-production qualities as the Northern Soul as David Gates utilizes a bank of strings, vibes, celestrial girl group back to cradle Margaret's standout voice, this time Mr. Gates uses a divine guitar break to bridge the song.. A mood-changing Beat Ballad Heaven of the highest calibre, climbing in importance and value as it starts to break through in those discerning Soul events where only top quality tunes are on the table.. Brilliant in every way, a recording that underlines David Gates as one of the most notable producers of all time. Condition Report An immaculate copy, those two spectacular labels are like new, vinyl reveals only the most minuscule signs of scrupulous play. A flawless copy housed in distributors sleeve. Complete whole-condition does not get much better than this. £333.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 20/09/2017 18:00 Listen Collectors Soul # 2 and # 3 Collectors Soul # 2 and # 3 Collectors Soul : Collectors Soul (Magazine) Out of all the "bedroom publishing" fanzine surrounding Soul Music this short lived 1970 project priced at a meager 2 shillings, is self publication at it's rarest. Gloucestershire based this "Brockworth" enterprise was a mix of Soul vinyl & artists information and a platform to sell records from. Editor A. R. 18. Bernie Williams seems like a huge truckload of cash! I thought Tony Galla would go for more on a JM Auction.
19. Bernie Williams Ever Again / Next To You Bell PROMO: 768 (45s) Much more than a fabled Northern Soul Holy Grail... because this copy, is flawless and plays utterly clean and true dressed in two unblemished labels. So very, very rare, so highly sought after; as the majority of the minuscule few copies known, have been on the Northern Soul circuit for over 4 decades. With the few known owners proudly playing them through every DJ set they did, on whatever turntables, weighted arms and styli that they were ask to work with. After all dropping "Bernie" is big tune with legendary status. This is only our 3rd copy in the last 20 years and one of those was sadly unplayable.. Here is the chance to own a mythical 45 that escaped all those trails & tribulations of Northern Soul's history, coming to us from across the sea and sounding crystal clear. Check out the soundfile and hear what a Ex + hardly ever played copy of Bernie Williams sounds like! Do not snooze on this, as you're unlikely to see this "NS Grail" in this crisp condition............ Clap! Clap! Clap!...... "EVER AGAIN" Condition Report Both label have very minor age browning, but are totally free of any flaws, no writing, no tears, no stickers, no stains. the all important play surfaces play MINT under strong light the surface reveals minuscule hairlines, none affecting play as you can hear. Without direct electric light it appears Mint minus, and plays like it £4,111.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Tony Galla In Love / Guys Go For Girls Swan: 4275 (45s) A devilish-dancefloor-detonator of the meanest kind! An explosive cocktail of hammering piano keys and whirlwind Hammond whips up into an exemplary slab of Northern Soul Dance. Bristling with power, matched by a bellowing vocal that multiplies with presence on every verse. Tony Galla's insistent torrent of love sweeps away all before it.. there's that unparalleled piano break lifting the session into one of the finest Northern Soul dancer ever made.. Listen, and let Tony do the talking whilst you spy those two impeccable labels and decide how your gonna get him into you DJ box Condition Report Two perfect labels, vinyl looks and plays Mint minus, under strong light there are a few minuscule hairlines so we've graded it Ex+ / Mint - £791.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Richard Blandon & The Dubs I'm Downtown / Lost In The Wilderness Vicki: 229 (45s) Such a far cry from their 50's Doo-Wop classics, Richard Blandon & The Dubs go under a major makeover with this much later recording, leaving their "Gone"days back in the past, leaving Wayne Steele directing them down a real obscure, dark path of moody, haunting Northern Soul that is so very different, you'll be taking it home in your head, and it'll still be there in the morning. Starting to receive attention, turntable action has start to appear on the few that own a copy "play lists", Youtube music has brought it to a wider audience, and collectors are talking. So check out the disc uniqueness, it's enslaving qualities and pull you into the web of vocal-group charm. Richard Blandon's vocal is as convincing as ever, with The Dubs in top form enriching the recording with velvety harmonies, suspending themselves on all the right notes, injecting even more depth and character in this highly distinctive taste of Northern Soul. Flip it over and Wayne Steele again gives us all something to consider with another Northern Soul offering of weirdness. Both sides have seen the beginnings of NS turntable action, we are predicting it will becoming something of a cult item as it's individualism divides opinion both on and off tghe dancefllor. Personally I LOVE IT but I'm a sucker to the vocal-group sound especially when the boundaries are expanded.. Rare, different & compelling Condition Report Totally flawless, both labels & both vinyls are Mint, you may be able to fins blemish if you take the time, but I certainly couldn't this 45 is perfect £130.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Fabulous Denos I've Enjoyed Being Loved By You / Hard To Hold Back Tears King : 5971 (45s) WOW!! Catch this runaway train, hang on tight 'cause where this Northern Soul stomper stops off at is anybody's guess. The Fabulous Denos pluck all the great Big City Sound influences and cast them into crashing rhythm of inspirational Northern Soul! A fanfare of blasting trumpets open the way for a striking vocal to take flight. Latin influences take over, the vocal group supporting harmony barges it's way through, and those stabbing horn blow, pepper this NS explosion all the way to the end.. as the lead vocal becomes more and more passionate about the unfolding party the studio has turned into. Electric! This is what real-deal Northern Soul is all about, thumping, determined, insistent, relentless vocal group dancer backed up by an army of brass... just astounding. The normal circumstances, I think the flipside is great too, but compared to the breathtaking a-side it pales... Condition Report Just spectacular condition of both labels & vinyls are flawless! £184.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Little Stevie Wonder Castles In The Sand / Thank You For Loving Me All The Way Stateside: ss 285 (45s) This 1964 British Tamla Motown non-hit is listed here today, not just because it one of Stateside's most elusive, but mostly because of it's astonishing condition for a 53 year old. Collecting UK Tamla Motown is a constant battle of seeking those tricky numbers, then trying to acquire them in the level of condition that requires no "upgrade" in the future. A Los Angeles conceived song from the L.A. office with Frank Wilson, Hal Davis, Marc Gordon & Mary O'Brien writing the lyrics, and Hal Davis & Marc Gordon adding the bolts to this song that triggered an album release "Stevie At The Beach" in the USA and "Hey Harmonica Man" in the UK. That whole early 60's period for Stevie in Britain was something a lull in his career after "Fingertips" had done so well as his debut. Most of his Stateside releases are no easy finds... this example juding by our sparse sales data on SS 285 is by far his rarest.. with the fine condition adding the weight tat brings it to this page. Go check your Tamla Motown British collection, there's a fair chance SS 285 is missing, but there's a much bigger chance it's condition requires an upgrade... Condition Report Under strong light there is full gloss on both vinyl, no scratches just an occasional sleeve contact hairlines, not affecting it's flawless playback. (listen) label reveals only the scarcest signs of turntable encounters, we'd estimate only a few cursory plays. Still sitting inside it's birth sleeve, I'm being extra cautious and highly critical to give it an Ex+ / Ex + / Ex +. Away from glaring direct light it would be seen as half a grade higher. But certainly no upgrade would be required by the owner of this beauty. £45.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Blues & Soul WIgan Casino Full Page Anniversary Adverts from 1st through to 5th. / issues 143,168, 209, 234, 261, Contempo: Blues & Soul (MAG) A Wigan Casino 5 magazine bundle covering the first 5 Wigan Casino Anniversary full page adverts in the corresponding Blues & Soul magazine. We think the 4 advert scans we have provided tell the story of that magical era of your youth capture by the magazine we all religiously read every fortnight.. Whether you wish to frame them, or what to keep the 5 Blues & Soul's complete, is up to you.. But we would say these 5 magazines whilst holding within it's pages iconic Wigan Casino images, this bundle offers so much much than just Wigan Casino. I myself was riveted to all the in depth articles, the Club adverts for the other events held, just as captivating. Fashion sales, record reviews, the Soul World from Dave Godin's standpoint, Soul Charts both sides of the Atlantic. This bundle is a Soul "Time Capsule" that catapults you back in time, even more than a record could... Who remembers Roxy Treads, Tiffany's, The Lacano Birmingham, Civic Hall Barnsley.. I could fill pages and pages of writing, reviewing the excursions your mind is taken on browsing these pages of 44 years of Northern Soul history.. What a great way to spend an hour or two.. all you could frame the Casino adverts in a row of 5 and relive those times every day.. Condition Report Ex + through all pages full intact and, no tears, 2 copies have tiny Newspaper Shop directive notes top corner, minuscule and not affecting the front page view. Normal storage rub to spine and corner tips. £25.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Bobby Bland That Did It / A Touch Of The Blues Sue: WI 4044 (45s) One of this iconic label's hardest to acquire - this copy is flawless, still sitting in birth sleeve. British Soul label chasing does not get any more satisfying than acquiring a top-drawer, rare # in last upgrade condition. In though though by 1967 the British love affair with Bobby Blue Bland was welded, with his vocal purring, that effortlessly could transfer itself from a whisper to a scream, had the UK Soul fan hooked. But either UK Sue didn't promote this 45 to strongly or the UK Soul Boy had other buying distractions at the time, as this 45 over the years has proved a very difficult disc to pick up. We consider a Mint minus copy, something of a Sue trophy-piece. So check out the amalgamation of Duke 421 and Duke 426 into one British disc Sue would maybe have caused a Soul Club sensation if Guy Stevens had decided to press the two Dukes as two stand alone Sue 45s. Ironically the two flipsides Sue didn't use, are perhaps Bobby's finest offering to Northern Soul "Getting Used To The Blues" for #421 "Shoes" for 426. Wow what titles if Sue had pressed two 45's and had only given them the cursory promotion they had given to "That Did It" they would be today very expensive 45s indeed. A listing for the many of you seeking perfection whilst filling the gaps inside Britain's most iconic of R&B labels. Condition Report Both labels are flaw free, vinyl is spectacular Mint minus.. it's a real pleasure to hold rare 45's in this unblemished state. £46.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Wade Flemons Jeanette / What A Price To Pay Ramsel: 1001 (45s) In those few seconds as the piano punches out the intro, the whole atmosphere retches up, as the room stands to attention, preparing to jostle for a little dancefloor space. Northern Soul dancers just adore a simplistic thumping intro, especially as they know what's coming next!! In this case, it's a drum-roll and a snarling beast of a vocal, glued together by a rich-velvety male vocal group, later joining a full studio are a few girls who throw a shrill chorus to add a contrast, and that works beautifully. There is always a reason a 45 reaches the very peak of NS popularity, it is usually a top quality production and a mood-changing lead vocal. This record is cram-packed with harmony, brass, men & girls complimenting a cultured voice who had long-since served his musical apprenticeship on the streets of Chicago.. and it shows! This Is NORTHERN SOUL at it's most motivational.. the dance-floor just heaves every time it hits the turntables.. But do not the let the magnificently powerful a-side let you pass by the B-side. I think the moody, dark and regretful flipside, is a mid-tempo jewel. Check it out, I think we could see this side featuring in a inspired Sunday chill set sometime in the future.. Condition Report Utterly immaculate label, and vinyl to match.. you will not find a finer example of this Northern Soul Beast. £873.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Sam Moultrie I'll Always Love You / Do Your Own Thing Warren Promo: WAA 108 (45s) For lovers of the Northern Soul classics, with an eye for the White Demo this listing ticks all the boxes. Top side first featured on one of those mind-blowing c90 cassettes Simon Soussan would send over to Britain, enticing us all to dig into our meager money pots. I had to own this 45 in 1973 it was pure Northern Soul magic...On the same tape Soussan teased us with Willie Hutch "Love Runs Out" and "The Duck" not saying they were by Willie Hutch at all, shortly afterwards copies of "The Duck" arrived in the UK, hitting the All-niter turntables to be announced as the "new" find by Richard Temple. Luckily Sam Moultrie never suffered the same masquerade, remaining pure, unsullied by pseudonym bootlegs, or in fact any bootleg. Today it still remains one of gthe very few Northern Soul classics that has escaped parasitical attention. Carten Warren's collaboration with Danny Brantley crafted a flowing song of eternal affixed to an irresistible dance arrangement.. great tune! giving me flashbacks to my impressionable youth, when I culdn't wait for my next Northern Soul original to drop through the letterbox.. nothing's changed in the last 45 years.. Except in 1973 I had little or no interest in Funk.. so probably only listened to a few seconds of the intrusive flipside, when Sam gets down and dirty "Doing His Own Thing" to a barrage of horn, a twangy guitar encouragement.. today I think FUNK is essential listening, especially when a screaming sax makes an unexpected appearance! Two great sides! One neat clean White Promo of some cool Northern Soul! Condition Report Two neat clean White Demo labels, no X's, no writing, no stickers, no tears, no stains. Both vinyl sides romp home with a strong Mint minus grade, having found no notable blemishes, except an ultra fine brief sleeve contact hairline om the flipside. A-side as been played be is flawless free of any marks no matter how light. £241.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Harvey Scales & The & 7 Sound Get Down / Love-itis Atlantic : 584146 (45s) Harvey Scales such a respected name in the Rare Soul world today, but back in 1967 Britain the only thing that was familiar to the collector about this off-the-cuff Polydor choice of release, was the much-admired red Atlantic label. Before you today is an Atlantic UK number many avid Red Atlantic hoarders have missing, or at the very least require an upgrade. It is surprising this record never sold a bean upon release, as it is pure distilled 60's dance. Everything the Twisted Wheel, Mojo, Nite Owl etc were craving in 1967. Full on horns, wailing Sax, persistent peppering percussion, all rattling together in a bubbling cauldron of Soul dance...which Harvey Scales gives "how to" instructions throughout.. Lively, energetic, compelling Club Soul that sneaked past the peeled eyes of those Friday Soul Boy new release sheet investigators.. Flip it over and Harvey does it again, another brass charged production, this time Mr. Scales has some meaningful lyrics to work with.. Two strong sides and surprisingly of UK Atlantic that failed to get noticed back in 1967.. Condition could hardly be better.. perfectly fr filing in that annoying space in the "Red Run" Condition Report very close to flawless solid center Red Atlantic in the time-machine condition, as if you ordered it from the Friday new release sheet in 1967. SAt first I thought it was Mint but I angled and reangled it in gthe light anf found a few ultra fine sleee contact blemishes, it play Prefect both side. The labels and the center hole, are perfection. No-one would ever require to seek an upgrade, for sure. £44.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Jr. Walker & The All Stars Shotgun / Hot Cha Soul : 35008 (45s) Motown collector will know some of the 60's in special sleeve are tough to acquire. What I've found very frustrating is listing them in clean condition. You Motown scholars are very particular about condition, and rightly so. This iconic Motown cover is one that is invariably not in acceptable condition. Torn, written, the birds coloured in my some aspiring child artist, splits, stains, coffee cup rings when it's been made a substitute for a table-coaster. Oh how these Motown covers suffered abuse, the favourite was pinning them to bedroom walls with drawing pins or even the inconsiderate 60's 45 digger who simply stuck his thumb straight through the sleeve middle.. So how refreshing to find this artwork cover for that MOD anthem "Shotgun" to have suffered from none of the above problems.. It is one of the few Motown cover that was just artwork, and to find it in an unsullied state is very unusual indeed. Other than mild fray/wear at the top opening (see scan) and very pale age-browning this sleeve by comparison is exceptional.. A Twisted Wheel / MOD anthem complete with the frame-worthy picture cover. Condition Report Other than mild fray/wear at the top opening (see scan) and very pale age-browning, this sleeve by comparison is exceptional.. the vinyl and labels are all clean Ex +. Check out the full double soundfile
£54.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen Mighty Joe Drake Try, Try, Try / Get Out Of My Life Woman Kapp: K 2014 (45s) Northern Soul black stock copy collecting has long been the choice of many dedicated individuals. A wise choice, as the labels are usually deeply attractive, significantly rare and when they are amassed in a file run, their collective gorgeousness is unbeatable. This example before you today is one of the very rarest of "The Blacks" a fabulous piece of Northern Soul from the desk of the prolific Horace Ott. Apart from brief Blackpool Mecca / early Casino spins I've never heard it played out in recent times. A sleeper that should be awoken by those of you who love to dig back in time to those, overlooked goodies that got lost in the deluge of amount of product to choose from during the mid-seventies as styles on the turntables, jumped from real-Northern Soul, to disco, Funk or even downright Pop. Yes I think this was a missed opportunity that sounds so right for today.. Joe Drake's gnarled vocal, supported by an uncredited male vocal group, is top-drawer Northern Soul, elevated by some silky horn playing and a great trumpet solo. All make for a fabulous under-played dancer..that I've personally always had a soft spot. In the right hands this under-the-radar tune would turn heads. But there's more, the flipside Horace takes Joe on a Bongo invested ride in FUNK. Full of enticing breaks, bass guitar rhythm collide with pumping brass, with the growlinng vocal adding defiance and attitude.. Two strong sides.. that as a Black stock copy is one dog-rare disc.. Looking stunning doesn't it..? Condition Report two near perfect labels, neither vinyl has even the lightest blemish is detectable... as near to a Manship mint as it gets.. Mint - / Mint - / Mint - and BLACK! £81.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 13/09/2017 18:00 Listen © 2017 John Manship Records. All Rights Reserved. Privacy Policy. Website Made by iWeb |
20. Hi, I don't want to poke my nose in!! But.. The LP and the French release are the STUDIO version. The one released in the UK was a live version backed by a British band (the Senate I think). Personally, I much prefer the Studio version. Hope that helps. All the best
21. I think it was VG++. In other words, not a minter but by no means tatty. I'll try to add a picture I copied from the website
22. The one recently on Tim Brown's auction was listed at minimum bid of £1,000 and was at £1,200 for most of the time. Not sure what it finished at. Nice to have and there are a number of people who collect Black Issues of iconic sounds.
23. Sunday Where Did He Come From / Ain't Got No Problems Alteen: Al 9631 (45s) We're not just listing this disc on these pages because it's on the first Chicago label, before Chess 2074 . We are also not listing this double-hitter because it is very challenging to acquire a flawless copy (this one is a super-clean Mint minus). We have listed this 45, because the shifting-sands of the Rare Soul scene has elevated the beautiful flipside to the play-side of choice for the DJ to spin. Rather like The Webs on Popside 4595 becoming Carib/Island/Low Rider preference, interest has rocketed in this sensual Sister stroller too.. "Ain't Got No Problems" has of course been a well respected Northern Soul tune for decades, without anyone really taking much notice of the flip... but as the Rare Soul scene spreads it's wings worldwide and different styles from dedicated DJ start to enjoy cult-followings at ground breaking clubs like Carib Soul, Diggin Deeper, Tuff Love etc. This style of Soul is starting to blossom in the Sunday chill events.. but if the crowd start to feel a little sleepy, just drop on the other side.. electric Northern Soul dancer from the delicous voice of Sonday Williams. Condition Report Sublime unblemished vinyl - a record notorious for being vg or less. So important whilst playing the Soul slowies that the sound is free of snap, crackle and pop.. Labels has minor rub (see scans) and notice they are fee of any other flzaws. An array of bright "pinks" will be beaming back at you as you opening your parcel.. £150.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:02 Listen Shout Magazines 4 x Shout Magazine 1969 / 70 Shout: 259741 (Magazine) Clive Richardson's well received Fanzine dedicated to informing the British Soul fan on what was going on that month. SHOUT magazine is much, much rarer than any Blues And Soul mag.. reading then will catapult you back to the wondrous time as a teenager collecting the music you loved.. So fine it always a quandary of which side to lead with, as both are equally compelling in their originality. The genius of Richard Popcorn Wylie gathers up a crammed room of squeals, chants, shouts, then peppers it with with a lead vocal that sweeps away all that studio excitement, to dominate the recording with a piecing voice, elevating the session with it's presence into a stimulating dance experience. Flip it over to a sulking Northern Soul /Popcorn masterpiece that never fails to halt my tying for a uninterrupted listen. I adore the dark moodiness with it "far east" seasoning. Even for the immortal Mr. Wylie the arrangement and direction of what seems to be a full orchestra is quite magnificent. Haunting horns, a grumbling bassoon, shrill girls choruses paint a picture of Arabian nights as Stewart Ames's vocal again royal in it's delivery.. OK, I think I do prefer "King For A King" for it's classy ingenuity, but I'm quite sure it I flip it over, I'll change my mind and go for "Angelina, Oh Angelina" for it's riotous energy.. Top drawer Northerner Soul BOTH sides! Condition Report Two flawless PROMO labels, not a blemish. Vinyl seem hardly used, but on the a-side there is a fingernail-turntable-retrieve brush, blemishing it's otherwise Mint status. Flip side vinyl has a couple of mild surface stroke. NONE of these cosmetic vinyl-freckles affect play in any way what so ever. Plays perfectly on both sides, which are a glorious strong Ex + (listen to the squeaky clean soundfile) £686.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:02 Listen Carl Spencer Cover Girl / Progress Rust : R 51204 (45s) Carl Spencer, an established as a New York author of the Big City Sound, collaborates with two other New York greats Bob Halley and Al Cleveland. Together the trio craft Carl's most popular Northern Soul 45 that's now considered a classic after it's first stumbling beginnings at Cleethorpes Pier, after Bay Area vinyl-hounds Rip Lay & Bob Catteneo discovered a copy on a mid-70s during a buying trip in Kansas City. The story goes they were checking out the then legendary "Davison's" warehouse for rare 45's, they were thoroughly disappointed, as the record-locusts from all over the USA had already stripped it the building's bowels of worthwhile discs. Undeterred Bob & Rip kept digging, playing every 45 they didn't know, hoping for some gems of Doo-Wop, Soul, Garage etc. Rip was playing, Bob was digging when Rust 5104 blasted out just a few seconds to be instantly rejected by Rip. "What Was That?" Bob called.. "Let It Play Through" after 2.28 mins Bob told Rip he thought those Brits would like that... "It's A Stomper" . The pair of them loved that word "Stomper" - "Found Any Stompers?" became an amusing catchphrase for Rip Lay for many years, as British collectors ploughed through his 4 million 45's warehouse in Concord California during the 70's and 80's. Carl Spencer wasn't exactly and instant hit at Cleethorpes, just like "Arin Demain" it took time to capture the dancers imagination. But when it did, it was a hugely effective tune, it wasn't long before the Wigan Casino had themselves a copy and the rest is history. I admire all Carl Spencer's work within the East Coast music scene, Bob Halley is an unsung NS Hero who was involved with a plethora of standout productions; Al Cleveland of course went forward to be a "wheel" at Motown.. but most of all I adore the stories of the vinyl-hounds of old and their undocumented contribution to the building of the Northern Soul scene. This NS classic was just one of many tunes Daly City Bob and the effervescent Rip Lay unearthed for the Brits who just loved their "Stompers"... Condition Report Vinyl is close to a Manship Mint, in fact I'm unable to find even the mildest feeble surface blemish, the labels are free of sticker, writing, tear or stains. But there is some very light age spotting to the glossy white fginish. Which disqualified it from our annual "Manship Mint" Christmas bonanza. But you nor I, will possibly never encounter a finer copy. Mint - Mint minus. is what we've graded this previously unplayed disc at. £486.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:00 Listen Betty Lloyd I'm Catching On / You Say Things You Don't Mean BSC: BSC 401 (45s) Looking for a floorpacker? If you are, how about a copy that looks like it's never seen a Northern Soul DJ. We know it has but this 45 has been treasured by it's previous carer. No hasty throwing on the turntable, with one hand and a pint of beer in the other. It's not been laid on top of the DJ box without a sleeve, whilst you choose you next 45, which needs hardly any thought, as your dancefloor is shoulder to shoulder rammed as Betty's Motor City sultry vocal takes to the air. A guaranteed set-solidifying, a platform for the rest your DJ set to leap from; a record that instantly wins the love of the crowd, applause guaranteed.. From the first blast of horns, that beseeching Sister vocal portrays a recovering from deep hurt. But the girl is getting stronger and you're falling for her, the strength in her voice beam through. A contradictory performance of pain, that actually makes the listener / Dancer feel good! But it's not only her vocal, the instrumental guitar break is in a class of it own, as it bridges the song so seamless as the second part of her despair is about to be poured on you. Dancing to Soul is a personal inner expression, that this 45 triggers so easily, you feel her torture, you sense her recovery and you feel elated. This is 60's girl Northern Soul sat it's most galvanizing.. For all the brilliance of the a-side, the flipside is so nearly as good.. another two for the price of one, winner that nobody ever grows tired of hearing... if they ever do .. just flip it over, you will have a few running to the turntables asking "What's this ?" Condition Report Two immaculate labels, both vinyls as we mention have been cherished, hardly a blemish anywhere, as you can hear they both play perfect £519.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:00 Listen Billy Wells & The Invaders This Heart These Hands / Ten To One Sweet Soul: 004 (45s) Buckle up, strap yourself in Billy Wells is about to steer you into a perilous foot-to-the floor high-octane Northern Soul journey. A record that has had a healthy cult status for many decades now, without ever being one of those readily available 45s at anytime during it's life. This has always been an extremely elusive disc to acquire especially at this tiptop condition level. This 45 sits comfortably in that highly collectable category "Too Rare" for it's own good, for those who dig deeper for their quality Northern Soul rarity, this record has sidestepped to general NS dancefloor as sheer elusiveness has kept it away from everyone except the most complete DJ boxes.. So listen and be prepared to be left breathless as Billy Wells takes you for a spin, a backdrop, super intricate foot combination that these real-deal NS stompers demand of the accomplished dancer.. In contrast do not overlook the superior harmony Soul ballad hidden away on the flipside, featuring some heart-stopping falsetto moments cradled by celestial girl group support, a truly sublime recording . Today's burgeoning demand for truly rare Sweet-Soul this side alone demands ownership. Condition Report I just love the rich deep blue Miami pressed labels, both of which are flawless. Vinyl is a smidgen away from mint, determined angling under strong light reveals a sleeve brush or to. As good as it can possible be Condition, Condition, Condition! £211.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:00 Listen Jades Hotter Than Fire / Movin' And Groovin' Cherry Red: HCR 144 J (45s) Rarely encountered real-deal stomping Philly Northern Soul. A vocal-group eruption of everything the classic style dancefloor craves.. Which begs the question why was this jangling-juggernaut never elevated to top 500 classic status from the Wigan / Mecca / Pier days. I can only put it down to it's absence from all but the most complete DJ boxes over the years, that has stunted it's growth into wider-known dancefloor request popularity. Take a listen, this rare piece has everything required to detonate the dancefloor and much, much rarer than some of the recent stomping 45's that have made recent resurgence. Limitations - I'm Lonely I'm Troubled - jumps to mind as a comparable for it's recent renaissance. So listen to the ingredients poured into this cauldron of Northern Soul. A racing hand-clap intro whips up a storm of horns and squealing girls, whilst the lead singer hangs on tight as the rhythm tries to leave him standing.. but he's there at forefront of what evolves into a Northern Soul volcano, spitting out trumpet blasts, squealing choruses, rattling piano keys, piercing woo-woos... then comes one of the greatest instrumental inciters of all NOrthern XSoul creations, give just enough pause for the gang to explode fully active action.. This is a Vesuvius experience THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL at it's most potent... make sure your not in Pompeii, when the value erupts..! Condition Report Fine clean vinyl, just a few fine hairlines, just cosmetic it plays as you can hear, loud, clean and true. A-side label has 2 X's and a promo "Chips" sticker. The flipside label is Mint - not a blemish. £186.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:00 Listen Jackie DeShannon Find Me Love / Come On Down (From The Top Of That Hill) UK Liberty DEMO: LIB 66224 (45s) From a lady with a Soulful streak, the gifted Jackie DeShannon gives up Northern Soul hidden away on the flipside of a non-hit. Presented here is a fine flawless 1967 UK Liberty Green & White Demo... of a record that was so popular at Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier it activated a horrid white USA Imperial bootleg promo (with poor sound quality) to meet demand. This UK press has magnificent fidelity. Today it is an oldie that has escaped the over-exposure suffered by some of the "girl" dancer tunes that were played in the Golden Era of 1975 / 77 when Northern Soul was at it's 20th. Century peak. So refresh your memory and catapult you back to those times, click the soundfile and the "When You Walk In The Room" girl will whisk you back to when the "Girl-Sound" was "King"; Susan Coleman, Jeanette Harper, The Poppies etc ruled the all-night dancefloors.. This is it's rarest anmd most wanted format for a record that's long-overdue for an oldies reactivation. Condition Report Two promo labels, the white "A" side is totally clean. The "Find Me Love" side has a FEB 1967 date stamp left hand side (see scan). Both vinyl are unblemished Mint -, we've conservatively graded visually at Ex+ plays Mint. Afew mild hairline can be detected under he scrutiny of a bright light. Both sides play perfect, even the lead ins are both totally silent. A fabulously copy! £75.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:00 Listen Donald Height Talk Of The Grapevine / There'll Be No Tomorrow UK London Demo: HLZ 10062 (45s) Not only a timeless Twisted Wheel anthem, but also undoubtedly one of the greatest 60's Soul dance recordings ever issued in the United Kingdom! No wonder in more recent times, this classic it has made a strong NS turntable resurgence as DJ's rightly dig back into our beginnings for "proper" dance tunes. I can't help imagining what it must have been like, in the summer of 1966 to be a MOD standing on the Twisted Wheel dancefloor and to have this relentless outbreak of Soul dropped on you. Wow! it would have blown my mind, as it forces "dance" on every note, with every squawking girl chorus the session builds into tsunami of sound, and then as if those New Yorker's somehow knew what the young mid-sixties Brit would crave next, an intrusive Sax Break mounts an attack on the senses. BRILLIANT! Does Northern Soul get any more motivational than this, a perfect dancer in every way.. so impressive I've even forgot to mention that imposing Yellow DEMO label and the play perfectness of the vinyl Click the soundfile, you will like me, will be beamed back to that fabled dancefloor, where we can only imagine what effect this style had upon a teenager fed on a weekday radio diet of The Beatles - Yellow Submarine, Jim Reeves - Distant Drums, Tom Jones - Green Green Grass of Home..... the effect was of course was the springboard to ignite, what is today one of the most powerful underground music scenes in the world - NORTHERN SOUL! PS Beat Ballad Heaven fans check out the overlooked flipside - Brill building influenced Soul-March of quality Condition Report Two glorious Yellow labels, flawless, sporting the rubber-stamp Decca running time on each side. Vinyl plays crystal clean, Mint - not a murmur. A-side has a light "turntable retrieve" surface scuff NOT affecting play. Flipside vinyl has some light hairlines, listen you may detect an occasional mild tick, but the muscular horns & Donald Height snarling vocal overwhelms it all. £198.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:00 Listen Calif. Malibus Love In My Life / I Stand Alone M&M: 633 (45s) California 1976 release that came to this country via Bob Cattaneo's Soul Odyssey mail order. It was a highly prized new release at the time, as Bob's initial order soon evaporated and he was unable to locate more copies, I was disappointed at the time as the Mecca had given it a few spins, as had Cleethorpes DJ's and I expected it to go big.. but that launch fizzled away and the 45's, liker so many, submerged into collections, to become no easy acquisition as the decades rolled by. Sooner or later, really good tunes, always surface in DJ sets after dormancy, as the need for an underplayed gem to be aired again increases as the Sunday gatherings become commonplace in the UK. I do see this uplifting brass-driven dancer has started to appear on play lists again. About time too, this is pure 70s Soulful dance, featuring an unforgettable falsetto the raises you head the moment he comes in. Ignoring all the disco temptations of the synthesizer, electric drum and banal lyrics, this tune is distilled joyous Soul driven by the instruments the sound was built around in the 60's. Now enjoying validated elusiveness and on the comeback trail, bringing you inspirational Soulful dance... that many have still yet to hear out. The 2nd. time around potential for bigger things is glaring.. especially as the flip is a gorgeous harmony soul floater, led by that scything falsetto, cradled by a rich tight echoing group-vocal support. Lilting guitar picks bridge the choruses, intricate arrangement and a lead vocal that hits throat-tearing notes without cracking..currently being appreciated by growing worldwide following for "Low-Rider" style grooves. A 45 that again offers much more than the obviously standout a-side dancer, it has a killer ballad flipside too Condition Report Fine clean copy, hardly a blemish on the vinyl. Two totally clean label £566.00 Sorry, this auction has ended. 06/09/2017 18:00 © 2017 John Manship Records. All Rights Reserved. Privacy Policy. Website Made by iWeb |
