  1. Properly only available on the LP 'Would You Believe' on Smash or Philips. Two went last week on Ebay for around £100, which is actually a bit high (I paid £70 for mine). There is a bootleg on Stardust which for some inexplicable reason has gone for £102 and £159 recently (lots of stuff here on SS about that one). Hope this helps John

  3. Is the decimal point two places out to the right ?
  4. I had one of these and it auctioned for about £12 if I remember right just a few months ago. That was what I expected. I think a real one (either label) should be about £250 or so. Anyone got any advance on that? Interestingly, I've only seen one for sale recently, and the asking price was £400, which I reckon is a wee bit high. In any case, you can't blame the seller, unless you want to ask why fixed list prices keep going up and up when there is apparently not that much spare cash knocking around these days.

  6. Thanks Azza - it seems a remarkably difficult item to track down, unless you want one of the millions of pressings !
  7. Hi all, anyone got an original of this for sale, VG++ or better? Please send PM with sensible asking price. Thanks John
  8. How about 'X-Rated Movie' by the 'Commodores' on the LP 'Natural High'? Near as I can find anyway. Not exactly a name, but it starts with the right letter. John https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0-fBBMa6x4
  9. The story I heard was that the cheering on the intro was taken from the 1966 FA Cup Final and that you can hear 'Wednesday Wednesday' (as in Sheffield Wednesday) in the backround if you listen carefully. Can't say I've bothered myself.
  10. I'll bet . Stick with '7 Days'. That's kept its credibility all through - and rightly so. ATB
  11. Just don't let anybody see it .
  12. Did you get it with the Rose design sleeve? It was one of those generated as a result of the scene, not the other way round, by someone, presumably, trying to cash in. For a lot of us, barely educated at that time, it was remarkably popular. Nowadays - Oh God ! It's still better than some of the shite that got released though.
  13. Could go on for ever. One of the finest vocalists there's ever been. Passed away far too soon. How about "That's What Mama Say" & "They Don't Give Medals...":
  14. Defo a great venue, and such a shame that support hasn't been better. Was delighted to be asked to play there last year. Good luck with the new format Gibby. ATB John
  15. That's crazy, you can get the proper LP for not too much more than that, and that's packed with superb tunes as well - one of the best albums you'll ever buy IMO. John
  16. I reckon it should be about £100 or slightly more for a decent copy. I'm no expert though, so if anyone wants to suggest differently, then fine by me.
  17. You're dead right Pete, but isn't it the case though that, throughout the existence of Northern Soul, a great many sellers have asked for, and got, sums that are well over the top? I think that applies whether on SS or anywhere else. Why are only about 10% of records on Ebay put up for auction? Could it be that most are listed as Buy-It-Now because they would never realise the same price if auctioned? Then, I wonder how many BINs actually sell anyway. Discuss....

  19. Put onto this a few years ago by Andy Jones. Never heard anyone else play it. Best £25 I ever spent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU6gAsxC6YE
  20. Was there a Famous Army Stores somewhere else that did similar stuff?
  21. Let's just go for it. No words needed....
  22. Good point, well made. I love Brid myself, but I was thinking more about the regular local events. Some are excellent, whilst others, to me at least, are dire. Each to their own, of course, but if you are looking to avoid some of the incidents mentioned in this thread, there are venues out there where it would never happen. Please don't give up on the soul scene because of a few who just don't seem to quite get it.
  23. Seek out the small clubs, run by real soul fans (at a loss usually), with relatively small attendances. That's the true soul scene, and it's brilliant.
  24. I once had a right jerk having a pop at me for playing The Vibrations - End Up Crying because he didn't know it. I wasn't 'keeping the faith', whatever that means. This same pillock was later hokey-kokeying to No-One There. If that doesn't sum up what's wrong, nothing does.
