  1. It's been played on the Funk scene for a few years. Unfortunately i discovered something about the trumpet player and i can't listen to the record now.
  2. These are not the questions used in the programme but they are similar. i scored the same on the Round the Horne quiz. https://tinyurl.com/2e7fj5 It should be noted that the contestant scored better on his general knowledge round which is the reverse of previous contestant who chose popular music as their specialist subject.
  3. I picked mine up in The Barras years ago and always thought it was a pressing till some kind soulie instead of offering me a fiver for it, ID'd it as an original and pointed out that the Old Town paper label was that sparse.
  4. Frser Dunn plays quite a bit of southern soul in his shows on subcity go to Soulful Allsorts and enter Fraser Dunn into the SEARCH facility That should bring a list of shows and their playlists. if you see one you like click on the link to the show at the bottom of the play list Here's a random pick Soulful Allsorts with Fraser Dunn

  7. "little did I know it back then, but that old floor packer by cal tdjader 'soul source' was pure latin soul." and from a Swede too. There's two hours of Latin Soul with a complete play list still sitting in the archives of radiomagnetic waiting to be listened to. https://www.radiomagnetic.com/shows/index_show.php?id=16
  8. in some of Glasgow's clubs the following were fairly popular. Clarence Carter Looking for a Fox. Soul Brothers Six Some kind of wonderful Four Tops Wake me Shake me Chuck Woods Seven days is too long Bruce Channel Mr Bus Driver
  9. I got the first three sets off Amazon at fairly reasonable prices, cheaper than what they are advertised today.
  10. Here's my hastily recalled and open to question time line. The original UK Tamla release was mixed in the late seventies using an "Eddie Foster" as a reference. The next official release was on This is Northern Soul which was a bit of a rush job without a few of the original master tapes available. But Do i Love You appeared in an alternative stereo mix with a slightly different vocal to the familiar single. It then appeared in a slightly different mix on Northern Soul Connoiseurs and I believe this version was on the KFC ads. This is Northern Soul was reissued as part of a double CD with the original master tapes used this time but Do I Love you was the same version as above. And then the 45 with Chris Clark's cover using the same instrumental tapes as Frank Wilson wasissued a couple of years ago. There's an alternative Chris Clarke on Cellarful of Motown I don't have connoiseurs nor an Eddie Foster and if truth be told i cannot be arsed digging the others out out and listening to them. However why would Motown re record any of the above for a minor re issue in the UK. They've got the master tapes.
  11. You can listen again here https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/networks/sc...nd/feature4_wed and the playlist is here Stuart Cosgrove's Floorfillers
  12. You'll be more than welcome at Goodfoot in the Admiral Bar 72a Waterloo Street, Glasgow on Friday 22nd June. Tony a vistor from Newcastle managed to convince his pals to drop in last month and I'm sure they stayed for more than the one pint. Melting Pot in Bar Starka in Motherwell is a bit more of a Mod Night and a bit out of town but they're a good bunch, they do play soul and entry is free and the drinks are cheap. The Underground Bar in Sauchiehall Street has mod/sopul DJ's every night just about. Drop me a PM
  13. Flamma Sherman also appeared on the Eamonn Andrews Show
  14. Dave it has to be said your discographies were extremely helpful when researching for my radio programme. a belated thanks
  15. Paddy's Market AKA the Briggait is one of the scuzziest markets in Glasgow. It used to be good for records, clothes and collar studs but it has gone downhill and now is raided on a regular basis for dodgy videos and software. Crawling about in it does set you up for a pint and/or a shower. Across the street another row of railway arches have been turned into shops and a bar/restaurant called Mono. It's vegan and sells vegan beer. Now I know most beers do not contain meat but some of them are processed with a meat based isinglass finings. Mono also has its own in house record shop Monorail which stocks vinyl and CDs and usually has second hand as well as re issued singles and albums. if you wish to know whether or not animal products are used in processing your beer check here. Vegan/ vegetarian beers
  16. Check out this thread but do not expect to find Northern soul Singles in Glasgow in a shop. Record Vulture
  17. and he presents a pretty good internet soul show Check out Soulful Allsorts
  18. It could well be, The Rock Garden bar in Glasgow is being re opened as a bar/club The Twisted Wheel. This year's Glasgow Mod weekender will be using it for several sessions.
  19. Both the American Federation of Musicians and the Musicians Union both thought that there were no need for foreign musicians to play in their respective countries. They were protecting jobs. Singers were not regarded as musicians and were not memebrs of the union so they could tour with musicians from the countries they were visiting. Catch one viewpoint here https://www.geocities.com/soulpooluk/blackmusic.htm A library may have A History of Jazz in Britain 1919-50 (Hardcover) by Jim Godbolt (Author) This page explains how the ban was lifted. https://www.ronniescotts.co.uk/about/ronnie...tts_history.pdf for a period in the sixties if a British band was on tour in the States an Americabn band could play the UK. i believe Brian epstein had lined the Velvet Underground to play London whilst The move hit the states. never happened.
  20. Allmusic lists versions by Billy Paul and Bette Swann. There are other versions by Johnny mathis, Mel torme and Gloria estefan
  21. Hi Des that was the perception in the US and the phrase "Doo Wop collectors" popped in the Goldmine record collecting magazine which revealed to much amazement the rarest/highest priced single was Do I love you. They lifted a quote from a review I wrote (uncredited of course) when Kenny DJ'd at The Spiders Web. I was surprised to find Kenny playing the 45 on a hired citronic double deck. The US writer was astounded it was getting played at all. US collectors either frame rare records or keep them in a safe. Dave was right about the VU debacle it was "won" with a hoax bid. One hears rumours about Blues 78s fetching big prices and they do as far as I can gather but Frank Wilson's Do i Love you still appears to be the single 45 that has fetched the most money in a sale. i did not see the Daily Record feature on Kenny but the paper annually prints a page about the top ten rarest records as listed by the Record Collector. It never mentions why certain copies of Bob Dylan's Freewheeling are worth thousands. It's the US album, stereo 1963 featuring 4 tracks deleted from subsequent releases) and worth $35,000. of course Scottish second hand record shops are besieged by silver haired folkies clutching a CBS copy for days after. According to Wikepedia this is a list of the rarest records https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_collec...aluable_Records as an aside if you think Northern Soul record dealers are grumpy check out Joe Bussard
  22. What are the divorcerd aunties going to dance to. Get your good stuff in early, make sure you have the Scissor Sisters, Shania , and other stand bye's . Play one well known soul followed by a less than well known track. If there is no band playing you'll be carrying the night on your shoulders. You can let teh floor clear ooccasionally as long as you get them back. Get a list off the couple of tunes that they will DANCE to. Some people who go to any sort of Family function regardless of its purpose want music that would be played ona works night out. They're as selfish about their musical choice as any chinm stroker on here. BTW have fun
  23. It's a different impedance. I had the same problem with my lap top and I now prefer to use an external sound card but from memory here's what I used to do. Go to Control Panel on your START menu Click on Sounds and Audio devices Click on AUDIO tab There shoul be a Microphone under the heading "sound recording" Click on the VOLUME button. It should give you a mixer display. Tick the Line input which should turn your mic input to a line input. if it is already checked at "Line In" try it out and listen to what it sounds like.
