As far as I can gather from Martin Gavin, Bill recorded I'm Waiting as a promo for his "Cabaret" band and gave them to club promoters so there weren't that many to begin with. It was not a record produced for sale in the shops. You can hear Martin tell the full story and the record towards the end of the show on the radiomagnetic archives Click on 2004-09-25 Reflections Archive here's the full playlist Earl Van Dyke The Flick William Bell Born under a bad sign The Marvelettes Now is the time for love Marvin Gaye this Love starved heart of Mine Marvin Gaye You're the son of a gun Lena and the Deltanettes Turn Around Baby Kathy and The Calendars Please don't Go Jimmy Soul Clark I'll be Your Champion Joe Mathews Sorry just ain't good enough Karmello Brooks Tell Me Baby Marlina Mars I 'm gonna hold on to your love Philly Devotions I Just can't say goodbye Lee Rogers I Need Your love Lou Rawls Dead End street Troy Dodds The Real thing Cliff Wagner Exception to the Rule "Paul Anka" "Every man must have a woman" Reggie Soul I feel so bad The C'stle Royal band The Little Floridy Jackie Paine No puppy love The Parisians Twinkle little Star Garnett Mimms Somebody Some Place Lou Rawls Where the Wind Blows Free Chuck Wells The Love Knot Tommy Ridgley I want some money Robinhood Don't be afraid of love Bill Bush I,m Waiting Peaches and herb We're in this thing together Denita James I have feelings too Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm The New Breed The O'Jays Working on Your case The Spellbinders Chain reaction Anyway I am sure Fraser will be joining me , Bill and Martin for a foursome at the Knightswood Golf Club. Afterwards the Bill Bush Combo will be doing a double header with his appearance at The Scotstounhill Bowling Club followed by the late night gig at the Spiegeltent. The first Slosh will be led by Fraser utilising his acetate only copy of Sammy Davis jr.'s I'm on my Way to Amarillo.

If it wasn't for some of these outfits Geno Washington and The Ram Jam band , Jimmy James and The Vagabonds, Herbie Goins and The Nighttimers we would not have been involved in the soul scene. You're a bit grumpy for this time in the morning:0 Did the bin men waken you up? I'll see you at The Spiegeltent in June for Bill Bush then?

"Love, Love, Love was issued on a 7". You should be able to get it for about £10-£15. It's on the B side of ...I can't remember "Someday We'll All Be free" possibly." Atco 6928 watch out for One sided DJ copies of Someday We'll All Be Free and the re issue You Were Meant For Me / Someday We'll All Be Free Atco 7092

Project debut mark 2 is belt driven and speed is changed by switch on deck. Mind you mine's nackered as the transformer is not working. It has a built in pre amp so you plug it into line in/ aux/ anything but DON'T plug it into phono. I DJ on Technics 1210's and that's what they're good for . Spending £350 on a deck for your home is a waste of money unless it is a HiFi deck. The project debut with cart is £170 . You can upgrade the cart.

Mary Fox is a radio presenter landed with a Northern Soul show,. She has her own likes and certainly her audience has their prefernces. I just wish I had her audience. It's not a show to listen into for the rarest of the rare but it bounces along. Some of her guests do play some rare stuff and she does play requests.

An absoulte belter. My first radio shwo was The Gospel Hour on Fresh Air FM withteh very Reverend Francis Xavier. Closing homily "Don't Send your Children to Church Take Them."

It proves that soul music was invented in Scotland somewhere north of Shotts and east of Aberdeen.

I've played it recently to little effect but no surprise there.

It was an official repress for FOPP and I got it for £7 in Glasgow. It was priced for us under paid Glaswegians. They've got the Marlena Shaw with California Soul album on vinyl for £7. They don't do online sales but if there's a shop near you they should be able to order them in. https://www.fopp.co.uk/fopp.asp a studio version of what's goin on is not available. FrankM

"Anyone heard the Salem Travellers version of "wade in the water" halo records?" If it's the version I'm thinking about you'd need to play it at 78 to get it up to dancing speed and I'm sure it came out on a 78 to begin with. Whilst the words to Lee Cross are secular Aretha belts out a great gospel tune.

And what about this in Saturday's Guardian Room For Northern Soul Leeds Move over Wigan - the Observers' Best Restaurant Yorkshire and Humberside 2005 is ready to steal your crown as king of the northern soul scene. With DJ Kenny Burrell, Room co-proprietor John Pallagi hopes to emulate the success of sweaty 1960s all-nighters, albeit with a more sophisticated slant on proceedings. American soul food favourites like meatloaf, BBQ chicken with fried yams, black-eyed pea gumbo, cajun shrimp salad, pork and beans and peanut butter brownies help make up the special three-course menu for this Friday's dinner dance. Should it all become too much, souled-out soulers can sample the restorative qualities of the cocktail bars' signature martini, Va Va Vroom, combining premium vodkas, Parfait Amour, crisp sauvignon blanc, apple juice, Chambord and rose water. Andrew Haigh · Room Restaurant, Bond House, The Bourse Courtyard, Boar Lane (Tel: 0113-242 6161) Fri 18, £25/person Gordon Ramsay, yes .... Gordon I have this idea fro reviving Amarylis

I suppose it's different from the usual "she's too commercial". Anybody who has listened to Aretha sing on record knows she has an extrordinary range and great voice. There are people who say she could sing the entries out of the yellow pages and make them sound musical whilst others would prefer she did just that than record some of the "songs" that appeared on her albums. I caught her on Oprah with her sister Erma , two other singers and a pianist. Now she is not going to get away with shouting in that situation. She sang as she always has done with feeling, with emotion and a voice that brings tears to my eyes. Of course she can belt it along with best of them she came out of gospel for god's sake ( catch her double Amazing Grace). Unfortunately I missed her Grammy's performance of 1998 when Pavarotti dropped out on the day and Aretha stepped in and kept Pavarotti's orchestral arrangement incuding his key for Nessun Dorma. If your experience of Aretha is respect from a stereo CD at a works night out you may think of her as a one note clunker. She has certainly made some clunker albums and whilst when she covers a song she can make it her own her versions of Dark end of the street and Son of a Preacher man pale against others. I also note younger DJ's who don't have some of our preconceptions are digging out tracks from he pre and post Atlantic hits period and playing them on the scenes.

Try Solar radio For a more traditional classic Northern show try Mary Fox hear Radio Stoke Fine wine There's 28 hours of reflections on Northern Soul available at Reflections But I would not listen to them consecutively as you may end up with a Glasgow accent;) Frankm

I have the album but have just found a 12" of Catch The Fire with Real Love (up all night mix) on the B side. I will play it at the end of this Saturday's show just in case any of my regulars are offended

Accurately described IMO. The buyer started off with a CD, then paid $16 for one single and then $50 for another. I believe he has the collecting bug.
-
"Chalky one of the many technical questions I might ask you next week, have been trying to record straight from olar on PC to disk but just does not recognise it, do you need special software? Cheers Jock" You do need a recording programme to save it to WAV, or MP3. Cool Edit, Soundforge, Pro tools etc.

Oooh The Banter. It just makes you yearn for the days of Lex McLean. Or maybe Harry Gordon
