Universal as it was a Warners Atlantic set. I bought a few promos and re issues whilst in London and Brighton this summer. The Dynells, Cajun Hart , Joe Tex, Linda Jones, Supremes . All about a fiver and being mint, perfect for radio play. FrankM
  3. I've got the two version somehwere. I played The Rance Allen Group at the Caledonia and Goodfoot. There's gonna be a Showdown was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff for Archie Bell.It was released in 1969. Rance Allen and his brothers recorded it in the seventies. They got lost when Stax went bust and they returned to gospel

I always thought that "Heed The Baws" was a Scottish phrase. Is Tim Scottish or did he hang about with Keb Darge ? FrankM

I realise he's a St.Johnstone fan but jumping on band wagons I am not so sure. He does a football prog on Radio Scotland twice a week which is quite fun, This week's guest was Frank McAvennie. https://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotlan...all/index.shtml FrankM

  8. That's because Denny Johnson picked his up in SA. I've got the CD version (and had the cassette) and you can buy it here https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...4694108-2135804 it was originally released as Otis Redding "Remember Me" and then retitled as "It's Not just sentimental" which is a line from "try a Little Tenderness" With seven tracks a side one might think the groove won't contain much volume but given Lovin' by the pound is track two you should by judicious use of the Gain and Bass pots get a decent sound to match a seven inch.
  9. as we say in Scotland when drinking a toast "Shang a Lang"
  10. They did of course record Keep on Dancing a version of which must have been played somewhere.
  11. A floor filler at the Caledonia a couple of months back and I've heard it at Goodfoot so it must be really popular. It must be the lyrics. I blame Tamla Motown Connoisseurs.
  12. Of course the Everly Brothers did record a northern soul album after visiting the family's old Manchester home. Here's the photographic proof of Ey OOp it's Beat and Soul
  13. I'm recovering from a late night out at The Sub Club to see Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings. F you have not seen her do so son. An excellent soul review with a tight six piece horn led band and a pocket dynamo as we say singing and sassying over the stage. I have never heard a funked up version of This Land is your Land by Woody Guthrie and their' was very good and she managed to cover Respect in her on way whilst tipping her hat to both Otis and Aretha. Her tour dates are here https://www.kadvanentertainment.com/dapshowsfset.html More soulful and exciting vocals can be heard on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm on reflections on Northern Soul on www.radiomagnetic.com It will be hard to follow last week's selection by surprise guest Neil Henderson (Hideaway). I'm off to Goodfoot at the Riverside Club tonight. Following our as Recommended by The New York Times feature ( https://tinyurl.com/akk9j )I wonder if it will have any affect on our attendances. Well not the ordinary punters there's not that many Glaswegians read the NYT. Maybe an increased turn out from DJ's wishing to be associated with the tag. Anyway booked a long time ago Paul Molloy (Friday Street) is the guest tonight and he will be accompanied by resident DJ (Fraser Dunn (Refractions -Soul All sorts 1:30 Sunday on www.radiomagnetic.com) and regular Felonious Munk (as recommended by The Peoples Friend) FrankM

These Scotsmen sound all the same. I told Fraser to get a new DJ monniker but for so=me reason or other he rejected my suggestion of DJ Sunshine:0 The track appears to be available on 7" Lamont Dozier

  23. I think it's a great record but given that records were dropped from playlists when they were given a UK release, if a record hit the charts it was certainly going to be dropped. I've just had a look at the Guiness book of Hit Singles and it wasn't a chart hit but I certainly heard it on the radio a lot. So maybe we can say it is not played as it is overfamiliar to the crowd that were there in the seventies. I've heard younger DJ's on the mod scene play it.
  24. Chart record.
