Dennis Hay posted this scan to Facebook, It has the same cat number as the Mojo Release, 2092 001. We've ruled it out as an Irish pressing as it doesn't have the Polydor numbering used for the rest of their Irish catalogue, And South Africa which released it as ATS 552. Was it a UK released which was pulled when John Abbot and Contempo suggested Mojo as a dedicated soul label. Or is from another country which was pressing 4 prong centres?

I went down to my local record shop Monorail and bought the Mirwood EP, Candi Staton .and Jackie lee took them down to The Flying Duck and played them at Soul Cellar last Saturday night. I remember doing that every fortnight. Buying new records from a shop. Tell the kids taht these days and they won't believe you. Keep up the releases.

Saturday 5th March and later on Listen again Dave Box is in Glasgow at the weekend and is spending two hours with Fraser Dunn host of Soulful Allsorts on Subcity Internet radio. Dave will be playing a selection of Chicago soul records some rare, some cheap and all great. Dave bought his first soul soul single in Yorkshire in 1964 and three years later was visiting the US to buy them. George's Soulville is one of the longest running first appearing on Fresh Air FM in the nineties I think and now transferred to LeithFM. Fraser started off on radiomagnetic and is on Subcity live Saturdays 2 to 4 and on listen again anytime We use Soul Source's radio page and our servers tell us we're getting hits so I'd recommend it.

If you are merely playing a home made Cd in the venue you'll probably be covered by the festival's music licence. It could be argued that you will need your own personal digital DJ licence at £200.

Soulful Allsorts is currently #1 on Subcity on both listeners tuning in live on Saturdays at two and on Listen Again, the station's catch up service. For a student station which plays the hippest music I think that's pretty good. If you're interested in what young people like in soul tune into some of the Subcity shows inpsired by Soulful Allsorts. Fraser and I DJ'd along side doem of them at a Subcity fund raiser. Great fun depsite the facts that we were by far the oldest in the joint and my son was also DJ'ing in the big room but we kept the floor busy. Tune in here

Most young people heard the songs played by beat groups in clubs which as they didn't sell alcohol were open to under eighteens. No one needs permission to cover a published song so Brian Epstein did not put one over on Mr. Gordy. Berry knew from experience the ups and downs of music publishing that what you want are loads of covers. As a label owner yes he would want the record sales. My workmate has an NME with four adverts for the Counters Do You Love me and its three covers. Readers would have known which was the original. Oriole released both The Contours version and a cover by Faron's Flamingos. BBC Light programme producers were wined and dined by pluggers who pushed British covers on to them. British bands could appear on radio programmes such as Saturday Club, Easy Beat and The Joe Loss show and play the covers live thus getting round the needle time restrictions on records played. There was a tea time show which played new releases and the announcer gave the label and catalogue number thus making it a record review and again that got it round the needle time restriction. And last but not least there was a BBC producer who felt Tamla Motown records had too much tambourine on them.
