  1. Hi All, I'm staying with a mate near Manchester 17-22 April (he lives about 20 minutes out) and was wondering if there was a soul night or recommended club I should pop into that would be spinning soul. Thanks, everyone! BritMusicSoulFan
  2. Hello, Many thanks. Was The Jelly Beans record first played to open one of the venues? BritMusicSoulFan
  3. Hi All, I was having a chat with someone a few weeks ago and showed him a promo copy I have of The Jelly Beans - You Don't Mean Me No Good. He mentioned this was the first song that was played at Wigan Casino. I've dug around online a bit and didn't see anything about this and just wanted to come here for the facts to confirm. (I've probably given away the fact I'm fairly new to Northern Soul.) Many thanks. BritMusicSoulFan
  4. Hello everyone, Thanks for the interest in this 45. It's now sold. It's winging its way to the UK! BritMusicSoulFan
  5. Many thanks Pete, Just to clarify, you got 125 Pounds? Was it in similar condition to the copy above? BritMusicSoulFan
  6. Hi All, I found a great Northern 45 rummaging through my records downstairs. If anyone could let me know values/make me an offer, that would be great. There are some sort of white spots on the upper left-hand corner of the 45 showing up on the photo, but they're not on the record. The a-side label is in VG+ condition. There's a light X in what appears to be grease pencil, a very tiny stain and some very light ring wear. The b-side label is in VG+ condition with light ring wear. The 45 grades between VG and VG+ (almost VG+, but not quite there) due to light marks on both sides. The 45 plays M-, however and sounds great. I would imagine there aren't that many DJ copies out there for this label. Hope to hear from you! Many thanks.
  7. Hello, I have a 45 from The Originals for Baby I'm For Real w/The Bells on Cobra Records (C 2500). The labels are in VG+ on A with a bit of light ring wear and a pen squiggle, while the b-side labels are M-. The 45 visually grades VG+ and plays EX-. Anyone have an idea on value/interested? Many thanks, BritMusicSoulFan
  8. Hello Everyone, I've got a Maxine Sellers - Some Kind of Fever (Pray For Rain) Challenge promo 45 that's pretty close to mint. I've been trying to get an idea of value. I've had someone offer me almost £30 for it -- is that a good offer or fairly low? Thanks, everyone! BritMusicSoulFan
  9. Hello Everyone, I've been digging through some 45s this morning and came across one I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on. It's Maxine Sellers on Challenge Records, and it's a promo copy white label 45. The a-side is Some Kind of Fever (Pray For Rain) w/Women Enough. This one's a toughie for me. It's so close to Northern Soul for me. It's got great vocals and horns on both sides. Any idea if this is some undiscovered Northern Soul gem? It looks EX- and plays EX-/VG++. Value? Love to hear everyone's thoughts on this one. BritMusicSoulFan
  10. Hello Everyone, I was digging through a stack of 45s downstairs and found a funk/soul (not really northern) for Brenda Southall for I Be Somebody/I'm Just An Average Girl (featuring the Dallasites. This is on Doin' Our Thing Records, which is out of Dallas. It's a very cool soul/funk 45, but it's seen its better days. It's in VG- condition. The labels are in VG condition (label wear). The 45 plays VG (sounding like popcorn). Any ideas on value? I can't find anything online. Many thanks, BritMusicSoulFan
  11. Hi Everyone, I just came across a fairly scarce 45 in digging through one of my boxes. Any ideas on current value/anyone fancy making an offer? This is Love Made It All w/Peace of Mind (It's Just A Matter of Time) on Express (number 300). The 45 labels are in M- condition. The 45 visually grades EX-/VG+ but plays M-. Let me know if anyone's interested! BritMusicSoulFan
  12. Hello All, I had posed this similar query a few months back but am now looking at flying over to be a dealer at a Manchester show at the New Century Hall, as I can stay with a mate and save £ on hotel expenses. I'm considering sorting out and bringing a load of reasonably priced and some blue-chip Northern Soul, crossover, funk, and other genres of LPs and 45s. I would obviously post a list here so everyone could have first dibs/reserve records to pick up from me at the fair. I would think if I contacted the promoters they could hype this up a bit. Any thoughts, ideas? Many thanks!
  13. Hello All, I host a record fair in Minneapolis-St. Paul, USA we hold every other month. I've been wanting to do a Northern Soul/soul feature at some point in the near future (perhaps the week before the Goldsoul event in Chicago in 2009, perhaps?) I know there are a lot of cities in the States that have a reasonably active soul scene, e.g., Seattle, etc., but not sure what the interest is here. Has anyone had experience doing this type of thing at a record fair in Europe/UK/Ireland, and if so, what has their experience been? It'd be great to have someone like Reg do a book signing or something. Any thoughts, ideas, anyone? Just wanted to throw it out there. BritishMusicSoulFan
  14. Hello all, I just added some brilliant Northern Soul, funk and crossover 45s to my Ebay store. Loads of buy it now or best offers plus nearly 3 dozen regular auctions added with low start prices without reserve! https://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZtimsmusicshop Thanks! BritishMusicSoulFan
  15. Hello all, This has just sold for a best offer for US $700! BritMusicSoulFan
  16. Hello Everyone, I just listed The Demures' Raining Teardrops w/He's Got Your Number Brunswick stock copy 45 on Ebay just a few minutes ago. Here is the link: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=360009845451 The 45 is available with a buy it now of $899.99 or best offer. The 45 plays very strong! Thanks! BritMusicSoulFan
  17. Hello Soulsalmon, The Canadian Brunswick copy has a red label. The US promo is sort of a cream label. BMSF
  18. Hello Tedsoul, Cheers for posting the Brunswick standard issue Demures 45. That is the one I've been looking at. I've never seen a stock copy either. I've seen the promo in person. So, just to recap, the stock issue Tedsoul posted a scan of is going for more than the promo issue? I'm just trying to avoid making a mistake. Thanks again for all of the great responses. So, the stock is going for about £450 these days? Tedsoul, what is the condition of your copy? Thanks, everyone! BMSF
  19. Hello Everyone, Wow, thanks for the fast responses. The reason I asked about the Jackie Wilson (I meant Johnny Howard -- oops!) on the flip is that in doing a few online searches, I saw a Demures Brunswick "promo" 45 that was listed on Ebay UK, I believe. It was listed as a promo w/Jackie Wilson on the flip, and it looked completely different from the promo copy I've seen in person. The one is: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JOHNNY-HOWARD-The-ch...VQQcmdZViewItem So, just to recap, the promo is about £300 in VG and the stock issue is ? Many thanks, everyone! So much great help here! BritMusicSoulFan
  20. Hello All, I've got a query about the Demures - Raining Teardrops Brunswick 45. I know the promo issue is worth quite a bit of £. I'm working with someone who has the promo copy. It's in VG condition. What's it going for these days in this condition? Also, I've been in touch with someone else that has the Brunswick standard issue copy. Does the flip always have Jackie Wilson on the flip side? I'm looking at a collection that has the standard issue as part of the grouping, and haven't yet asked to see the flip side. Thanks, everyone! BritishMusicSoulFan
  21. Hello All, First, let me start by saying I'm not entirely new to northern soul/soul, but my interest in it has grown in a dramatic way this year. I was a casual fan and appreciator of northern soul/soul, but I started listening to more of it this year than I have in the past (my big love of music has been primarily 80s-present British indie). I really didn't think that this single was going to be big-dollar item. Most Motown 45s seem to (correct me if I'm wrong, please) generally fall into the 3 Pound (sorry, I have a Mac and haven't found the Pound sign) range for stock 45s and 5 Pounds for promos, with obvious exceptions. There is a lot to learn about soul, and I'm getting there, but it's going to take some time, as there is so much to soak in, hence my interest in signing up with Soul Source. I've had a lot of helpful advice given to me, and I hope that I can provide some in return. Thanks, All!
  22. Hello everyone, I've got a great northern soul US promo 45 for sale. This is Free and Easy from Satyr, catalogue number JH-10226 w/the same song on both sides (one mono version, one stereo version) from 1975. This comes in the original company sleeve. The record is in EX- (M-) condition. There are a couple of super faint, light marks on both sides and a bit of ring wear on the label. I'm asking 25 pounds. Let me if you're interested. Thanks, BritishMusicSoulFan
  23. Hello, Agreed...this one isn't Northern. This record is actually NM. I never grade anything mint, even anything perfect. This one would actually be closer to M-. I usually never grade higher than EX-. BMSF
  24. Hello Everyone, I'm planning on listing some great northern soul/soul 45s for everyone to look at, but I thought I'd get started with this one below. Please let me know if you're interested in this 45. Motown M 1140 in original "The Sound of Young America" sleeve David Ruffin My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me) w/I've Got To Find Myself A Brand New Baby This 45 is in EX- condition. I see two incredibly faint, light marks that won't affect play. Thanks, everyone! BritishMusicSoulFan
