Le Cam, Soft Records, Charay Records Soul 45S
Britmusicsoulfan replied to Britmusicsoulfan's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi everyone, After doing a Google search, I found this rather interesting discussion on Soulful Detroit regarding these labels: https://faac.us/adf/messages/150056/151437.html?1187197236 It sounds like Ace released some of the Maj's garage releases on his labels and licensed them from him, and when he died, they've been trying to work with the family. -
Le Cam, Soft Records, Charay Records Soul 45S
Britmusicsoulfan replied to Britmusicsoulfan's topic in All About the SOUL
Ian, Yes, the label was based out of Fort Worth, Texas. The only reason I'm aware of Major Bill Smith's labels is because I bought a collection of 45s out of Texas that had some (but not a lot) of soul 45s on Charay. The Maj also had a few other labels such as Soft Records and Le Cam (and possibly others). Some of the pairings on those releases are dead strange. There was a release on Le Cam where the A side is a soul funk track, while the flip is some spoken word track about Elvis. The plot thickens! -
Hi All, Over the years, I have picked up records on Le Cam, Soft Records and Charay Records, all labels owned by Major Bill Smith out of Dallas, Texas. There are some great Northern Soul tracks, funk tracks, soul ballads, etc., which leads me to my question... Is the ownership of the tapes murky? I'd love to see some of these tracks compiled! Thanks, everyone!

As Far Away From Northern As You Can Get
Britmusicsoulfan replied to Birder66's topic in Look At Your Box
Hi All, I'm fairly new to soul myself, coming of it by way of purchasing a large collection of 45s about 1.5 years ago with tons of amazing Northern Soul, soul, funk, crossovers, etc. I had things from The Temptations, Otis Redding, etc., but prior to this, I listened to loads of 80s/90s British Indie (James, Morrissey, The Smiths, Jesus & Mary Chain, Paul Weller, Milltown Brothers, Inspiral Carpets, Blur, Pulp, Ride, Housemartins, etc., etc.) and still do. I've always tried to listen to music from all sorts of genres. After having my ears opened to all of the great 60s/70s soul out there, it's always interesting for me to go back and listen to all of my other music I have and be able to pick out the soul influences in the 80s/90s indie stuff! Soul Source has been absolutely amazing. Everyone on here has been so inclusive and great about sharing information. Thanks, everyone! -
Hi Everyone, I've picked up some records and am trying to figure out a value, as a mate is interested in it. I have seen other titles from The Other Brothers sold, and some are in Manship's book, but not this one. It's Pet Records 73267, a label out of Dallas, Texas. The A side is I'm Gonna Find Love, which is a Northern Soul/uptempo soul track, while B side is A Little Girl (That I Can Call Mine), which is a soul ballad. The record visually grades VG to VG+. The A side plays EX- and plays loud and clear, while B plays VG+ with light background noise on the intro and plays loud! Any help on this one most welcome. Thanks, everyone!

I heard The Demures - Raining Teardrops and was hooked!

I had a record (LP) off of a chap on Ebay 2-3 years ago where it was taking ages and ages, and no record arrived. I kept e-mailing him asking for the status of the record and received no reply. Finally, the record arrived. It arrived in a USED, greasy pizza box! I was absolutely disgusted. I don't even recall any packaging in there, but the record did manage to arrive one piece. Ugh!

Hi Everyone, I was digging through boxes and found a record from 1983 that just says KC with Uptight from Stevie Wonder w/Give It Up. For some reason, I decided to give the Stevie cover a play, and wow, it was a great surprise! It's just a great uptempo version (maybe you could play it out at the right night -- who knows?). It's amazing how records can just knock you for a loop like this!

Hi All, Here is a link to my current listings. I am adding about 20 titles per day during the week and about 50 a day on weekends. There are loads of original 60s, 70s, northern soul, crossovers and funk 45s being listed. All of them (except the ones in the Ebay store section) are all 7-day auctions with a $9.99 start and no reserve. There are some great bits in here: https://shop.ebay.com/merchant/timsmusicshop Help me pay the tax man next week by purchasing these. Many thanks, BritMusicSoulFan (Tim)

Hi All, Just curious to see what everyone thought of the SoulTrip to Chicago. Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves and had a safe journey. home. I was only able to be there for a few days, but it was brilliant. Everyone was incredibly inclusive, friendly and great. I'm fairly new to the scene (about 1.5 years) and was really impressed with everyone's sharing of information. Thanks to Kev for putting on a great trip (I'll get those photos over to you)! Many thanks, BritMusicSoulFan

Eddie Billups - Sweet Sweet Love Value
Britmusicsoulfan replied to Britmusicsoulfan's topic in All About the SOUL
Cheers for the responses! BritMusicSoulFan -
Hi All, I found a copy of Eddie Billups Sweet Sweet Love on Solid Gold Records downstairs. Any idea of value? It grades visually about VG to VG+ (better if I clean it) and plays VG+ish with a few bits of light noise but strong, clear, loud play. This is a top-shelf tune! Thanks, all! BritMusicSoulFan
