  1. Cheers All, Yep, the Black Wand is definitely rarer. I'm still fairly new to soul (3 years), so a lot of the 45s are new to me. Tim
  2. Hi All, Just heard this and really enjoyed it. What's this going for these days? Many thanks, Tim
  3. Kev, Have you considered Dallas/Austin? Cheers!
  4. Hi All, I found and played a promo 45 from Norman Charles for This Is Gonna Hurt w/She's A Woman on Columbia, and it's not bad. Has anyone heard this played out? Tim
  5. I haven't had anyone refuse to sell me 45s (except for a few times I've gone out on record buys and the chaps wanted too much for not-that-great records, so I made them a lowball offer which they passed on), but it brings a couple of stories to mind. Speaking of loads of records, I'm sure some of you have been to Bill's in Dallas. If you haven't, it's an experience. I was there about 7 years ago before he moved to a new location, so I don't know what the store looks like now. Nothing is priced, so you have to go up ask Bill what he wants, and the price is the price to my knowledge. After 2 hours of having a rummage, I chucked it in. I saw a few bits, but just didn't want to mess about with going up there with items. I was at the Wembley Record Fair 5-6 years back and saw a chap trying to beat up a dealer on an item (a videotape). He threw it on the ground, broke it into a million pieces and said "now no one is going to have it!" Finally, I host a record show in the states. There's this chap who used to come up to me all the time and say I have a record for a certain price and would ask me to justify why I had it for a different price. I would try to explain the condition might be different, they might have paid less than I did to acquire it, etc., but I finally ignored him instead. It's amazing!
  6. Hello everybody, I've got a stock RCA Victor 47-9159 Northern Soul 45 from The Metros for Since I Found My Baby w/No Baby. The labels are in VG to VG+ condition with ring wear. I've played it completely through with headphones. The 45 visually grades VG. It plays VG+ with loud, clear play with a bit of very faint background noise in the left channel on the intro and plays VG+ overall. I'm asking $175 but will consider offers. Thanks, everyone!
  7. Hello everyone, I've got Polydor PD 14176 from Pep Brown for Is It All Over w/Is It Too Late for sale. The labels are in VG+ condition with some faint station stamp on B and a bump under the B label. The 45 visually grades VG+ with some light marks. The 45 plays VG+ with a couple of bits of light noise on the intro, then plays EX- after on A. The B side plays EX- with a couple of pops during the intro but plays EX- with loud, clear play. I'm asking $175 but will consider offers. Thanks, everyone! Tim
  8. I wonder if I should e-mail him and let him know Bill Cosby is going to be live at a casino this summer a few hours from him!
  9. I've actually had several e-mails from this chap about a year ago. He lives about 90 miles from me. He e-mailed me 3-4 times when he saw all sorts of Northern Soul 45s in my eBay store and saying that it's a scam, etc. I answered a couple of his e-mails then kindly told him if he isn't going to buy records from me that he's wasting my time. This chap's riding the train to Bittertown!
  10. I just received a parcel posted from the UK on 26 April that arrived on the 30th, which is incredible (especially considering there was a Sunday in there), as it has never usually been that fast even before the ash cloud! Cheers!
  11. Kingbee is one of the best record stores in the UK. Les is a top chap! His store is the first place I go to after grabbing a nap after the flight arrives from the States! I always find good bits here and usually find a healthy pile of items and run out of time! The tram extension for Chorlton will be complete sometime next year, so the tram will drop off just up the street. Cheers.
  12. Actually, It was recorded on an Ampex 8-track system. In addition to the vintage Ampex, they also used vintage instruments. It's a great release!
  13. Chris, The Texas collection was the best. Imagine 50,000 unpicked 45s from one collector's personal collection. So many gems passed through my hands that I have wanted to keep, but couldn't justify it. Three copies of a soul/funk 45 from Tickled Pink, Reginald Milton and the Soul Jets ($1000), Second Resurrection 45, tons of Texas funk, loads of Northern, tons of garage, psych, and the best bit of all...the only known copy of a blues 45 on Sun from D.A. hunt to ever surface since 1953, which sold for over $10,000. I've only started to dig through the Louisiana 45s. It's a mix of a black-owned record store that was hit by Hurricane Katrina, and the other part of it is from a New Orleans jukebox route. Good pickings, indeed!
  14. Chris, There are another 150,000 45s from Louisiana and Texas in there, so I know there are some good bits in there.
  15. Hi All, I finally made it into my secondary 45 storage and spent a few hours Sunday having a rummage and found some good bits (some will be available soon): Jackie Lee/The Duck (not a biggie, but one for my box!) Johnny & Jackey/Let's Go To A Movie Baby - Anna Patti Hamilton/My Baby Loves Me - Lovelite Manhattans/Manhattan Stomp - Carnival Johnnie Walker/You're All Mine - Tollie Joe Tex/You Better Believe It Baby - Dial Ernie K. Doe/Dancin' Man - Duke Joe Tex/Skinny Legs and All - Dial Willie Bobo/1-2-3 (Uno, Dos, Tres) - Verve Hopefully there'll be more gems to come!
  16. I've got a mate that I played a bunch of Motown stuff to that he liked, so I'll play the Northern Soul stuff to him next.
  17. Correction, the 2nd bidder took it. Guess it's not going in my box after all!
  18. Hi Headsy, I did second chance offer with no response from the 2nd bidder. Cheers, Tim
  19. Hi All, I had a Christopher Cerf - Sweet Sweet Music Amy 45 up on eBay a complete timewaster bid on, never paid, never communicated and eventually closed their account. I've given this a few listens and quite like it. I don't recall it getting played out the last few times I've been out -- is it still in DJ's regular playlists? Cheers!
  20. Hello, I was digging in my record archives and found a stone mint Crest 45 for The Miracle of Love on Crest for Glen Campbell. I've seen it on Manship's website and a few others. Is it Northern, Popcorn, or would it be considered something else (e.g., blue-eyed soul/teener?). Cheers! Tim
  21. Here are a few of his clips. It's not bad! https://www.spinner.com/interface/mayer-hawthorne?icid=main|main|dl5|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spinner.com%2Finterface%2Fmayer-hawthorne
  22. Hi Everyone, Whenever I can, I've picked up Westside Records CDs, as there are some interesting soul bits not found anywhere else. Does have anyone have a discography they could send or post? Many thanks, Tim
  23. Hi All, Before offering this record on eBay, I wanted to offer it first to Soul Source readers. I've got a stock Cajun Hart - Got To Find A Way, Warner Bros. 7258 w/Lover's Prayer. It comes in the age-appropriate Warner Bros/7 Arts company sleeve. The sleeve does have some curling on two corners and a corner that pops up, but this could probably be fixed. The labels are in M- condition. The 45 is M to M- and looks unplayed. The A side is absolutely beautiful with no marks or scratches at all. The B side is M- and has a couple of paper scuffs/storage scuffs, but it's a beauty. This is the third copy I've had. The first one, which was in VG to VG+ condition, sold about a year and a half ago for about $300. I had a second copy that sold around Christmas that was just a bit better that brought $353. Since the condition is as such, I'd like to get $450. I will consider sensible offers. The record can be sent via express mail in a heavy-duty 45 mailer with cardboard inserts with proper packaging, which has protected $2K records. Please PM me if you're interested. Cheers, Tim
  24. Hi Everyone, I've got a really nice stock Columbia Luke Williams - Who's Gonna Be First w/Your Baby's Bag for offer. It comes in an original Columbia sleeve, catalog 4-42997 orange label. The 45 is M- to EX-, being M- on A, with the B side having two light marks about 2" long (they are not feelable, so they might have been from storage. The record plays M-, plays loud and sounds great! Looking for $125 US + postage or best offer. Thanks!
