  1. Hi Everyone, It looks like this chap has sold about 5-6 copies on eBay at various points in the last 2 months, with a combination of correct DJ copies with the proper label on the proper side and the labels reversed. I had a stall at a record fair yesterday I host, and this chap offered one of each (correct and reversed labels). I had a chat with someone today that recommended getting the correct label copy but passing on the reversed labels. Thoughts? Cheers, Tim
  2. Hi All, Someone today offered me a mint/mint- Morris Chestnut - Too Darn Soulful promo 45. There are two copies. One has the correct labels, while the other has the labels reversed. Both are in beautiful Amy company sleeves. Any idea on value these days? Also, can anyone please let me know what should be etched in the deadwax? These are in the States, so they are not likely boots -- they looked proper to me. Many thanks! Tim
  3. I have cleaned records for years (when needed) with a soft chamois cloth you would find in the car maintenance section. They're soft, but they also clean off the dirt very well and do no damage to the record. Cheers!
  4. I'll leave it open for offers through midnight central time (-6 GMT). If no replies, onto The Bay it goes.
  5. Hello everyone, I wanted to offer this 45 first on Soul Source, as I've had great experiences selling on here. I've got a promo version of Judy Freeman and Blackrock, RCA 74-0493 yellow label for Hold On w/Walk A Mile In My Shoes. The labels are in VG+ condition with light ring wear on A and EX-/VG+ on B. The 45 visually grades between VG and VG+ on A and VG on B (nonfeelable marks on B). Side A plays VG on the intro crackly a bit, then plays between VG and VG+ 1/3 of the way through the song, then plays very close to VG+ with loud, clear, enjoyable play on headphones. Side B plays VG with crackles on the intro briefly, then VG to VG+ (almost VG+, but not quite) with loud, clear play. There is a very faint background noise, but the music is louder than the background noise. The record plays on B loud and clear, playing EX-, with just a crackly bit at the outro. I can e-mail you sound clips so that you can hear a sample of both sides if you'd like. I'm asking $350 US and will consider all sensible offers. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.
  6. Rhino.com had the Wilson Pickett box set for $59.99 US for one day only, so it'll be under the tree this year. It's normally $90-$100. Add free postage onto that = result!
  7. Rhino.com is selling the 6xCD complete Wilson Pickett box set for $59.99 US today -- this is making my mouth water!
  8. Quite frankly, I think The Night is one of the best tracks Dee Dee Sharp has ever done!
  9. Hi Everyone, I have about 1500 45s and 50 and counting LPs on eBay at timsmusicshop, and I definitely don't make postage up. It's whatever the postage is + $1.25 to cover the mailer and cardboard inserts, no more. I can get 7-10 45s into one mailer, so postage works out to be cheap via first class air. I do use Express mail for dearer bits, as it's trackable.
  10. Will there be a webcast or any way to view this afterward for those such as myself who can't make the 8,000-mile round trip, but would love to?
  11. Whenever I fly over from the States, I always pop into Beatin' Rhythm at least a couple of times! I can't wait until my next jaunt into Kingbee, but not sure if that's happening this year or not.
  12. Hi Everyone, Check out 3 songs from the latest release from The Diplomats of Solid Sound, Stax/soul right from Iowa! https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Diplomats-of-Solid-Sound-Featuring-the-Diplomettes/8329182746?v=app_178091127385 If that link doesn't work, try their My Space page: https://www.myspace.com/thediplomatsofsolidsound Cheers, BMSF
  13. Nev, Just make sure he puts in a proper record mailer box with 2 pieces of cardboard on each side of the record inside so it's not sloshing about inside the box! Tim
  14. Dave, I don't even know if you could get 85p in the States for this record unless it was a minter.
  15. I was browsing my local Craig's List postings when I saw this. I would hate to see what they'd price soul 45s at. Apparently they don't deliver either! https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/emd/1949998086.html Dion - The Wanderer 45 - $85 Other bargains include an American Pie 45 for $30 and many others. Amazing.
  16. Hi Everyone, At some point in buying and selling and collecting 45s, I'm sure all of us think about the ones that got away. There are only two 45s I really regret selling and not keeping. I'm wondering if anyone has either one of these in M- condition, stock copies preferred, please. Christopher Cerf/Sweet Sweet Music on Amy George Carrow/Angel Baby on Columbia Many thanks! Tim
  17. Hi All, I've finally had a listen to both discs. While there are definitely some clunkers on this, the standout track for me (and the one I've popped in just to play this track) is David Ruffin - In The Cool Of The Night -- it ticks all the boxes for me! Tim

  19. Hi All, I just popped the Four Tops' Night LIghts Harmony LP on ABC onto the turntable and am really enjoying it. I haven't heard a lot of the post-Motown LPs. Are there any others I should check out? Many thanks, Tim
  20. Hello Everyone, There's not a lot of well-known soul band out of Minneapolis, but here's one that is definitely worth paying attention to! It's very likely you've heard "I Do Love My Lady" from Haze. The original LP is nearly impossible to find and sells for hundreds of dollars. The original 9-track album is now available to order on CD for the very first time by the band. The tapes were lost long ago, but it has been digitally remastered to CD from the original acetate and transferred via vintage equipment to maintain that warm sound. It sounds great. The track listing is: -When Were Kids -Waiting For The Moment -House On A Country Road -Toe Jam (Inst.) -I Do Love My Lady -Are You Free -Fill My Mind With Music -Foxy World -Higher Groove (Inst.) The CD is $15 US. Shipping is $5 to the UK and Europe, Australia and Japan, $2.75 within the US and $3 to Canada. Orders can be sent to olympian90@aol.com Also, there are limited quantities of the 2nd (and at the time) unreleased CD from Haze. The second album was recorded in 1979 and never released. A limited pressing of this CD is available. It is a very different sound. It has a 70s sound with a modern soul sound with horns backing them on several tracks. There are 4 bonus tracks included that were recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. The 2nd Haze CD is the same price -- $15. I have played both releases many times and think they're great, and you will, too! There are two more Haze releases scheduled in the months to come and several CDs in a series called Haze Divas. There will be 3 CDs in this series, which will include some great 70s soul artists from Minneapolis that have never been released before. Thanks, everyone, and I look forward to hearing from you.
  21. Just got word that Bobby Hebb died. Pull out that Sunny 45 and give it a spin. RIP, Bobby.
  22. Joe, I've got one and have been asking $20, so I'd say $15-$20ish. Cheers.
  23. I went to chap's house to look at 45s the other day and managed to find a nice pile of Maxine Brown 45s, 3 that were in the Wand sleeve + Carla Thomas - Gee Whiz in the Atlantic sleeve. I was quite pleased. I found: Chuck Jackson & Maxine Brown/Take Me Maxine Brown/One In A Million (the original, not the reissue)/WND 1117 - sadly, not in company sleeve Maxine Brown/One Step At A Time Maxine Brown/It's Gonna Be Alright (not in company sleeve, but in a beautiful Okeh sleeve) Maxine Brown/Oh, Not My Baby Carla Thomas/Gee Whiz/Atlantic 45-2086 Hopefully more to come! Cheers, everyone!
  24. I've got this on The Bay at the moment: https://cgi.ebay.com/Collins-and-Collins-Top-Stairs-Modern-Soul-45-/360269641924?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item53e1be78c4 This is A&M Records 2233-S, a 45 RPM/7" modern soul record from Collins and Collins for Top Of The Stairs w/Please Don't Break My Heart. The labels are in EX-/VG+ condition with a spot of very faint ring wear. The 45 visually grades VG to VG+ on A and VG+ on B. The 45 plays VG+ with very light background noise but with loud, clear play and sounds great.
  25. Hi All, I started out having all these incredible soul 45s pass through my hands as part of purchasing an enormous (50,000 45s) collection nearly 3 years ago. I couldn't justify keeping most records, as I thought about what else could be done with the money, but there were certain records that grabbed me so tightly when I played them that they went into my play boxes. I've been continuing to pile up a nice selection of Northern Soul and crossover 45s, which has made me ponder the possibility of playing out at a soul do. We have a Northern Soul night once a month and a soul/funk night once a month, so there may be chances out there. I'd love to hear about your first time playing out in front of a crowd. Part of me would be really excited about it, and part of me would be petrified. Do you remember the first record you played, and how your set was received! P.S. As part of all of this madness of collecting, I've started setting aside "interesting" soul cover 45s. Is there anyone else that does? A few gems so far: Anita Carter/I've Been Loving You Too Long (To Stop Now) Bill Black's Combo/But It's Alright Mark Farner Band/Just One Look T.G. Sheppard/I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) Dave Mason/Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow Mark Farner Band/When A Man Loves A Woman PG&E/(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave Razzy Bailey/In The Midnight Hour Rita Coolidge/The Way You Do The Things You Do Rolling Stones/Ain't Too Proud To Beg
