  1. I bought 250,000 45s in Louisiana in July 2008 and am still digging through. Tons of 45s from a New Orleans jukebox route. Records from a store hit by Katrina. Still digging through and sorting out the 80s/90s pop and country to get to the soul!
  2. Hello, I have been offered a M- to VG+ Tamla US copy of The Miracles' Shop Around withdrawn globes pressing. First, is it that rare? Secondly, I've been offered it for $100. Is that a good price? Cheers!
  3. Hello, I've got some copies of the Fontella Bass Paula P-389 original 45 in a Ronn/Jewel/Paula company sleeve for Now That I've Found A Good Thing w/Home Wrecker. The labels are M/M-. The 45 is new old stock. I'm asking $10 US per copy + $8.15 for P&P air mail in a heavy-duty 45 mailer with cardboard inserts. If you're interested, please PM me. Thanks so much!
  4. Hi All, I just checked the USPS website and found this information, which is encouraging. It looks like there will finally be delivery confirmation for international parcels, which I have been perplexed for years why this options never existed unless using express mail. First-Class Package International Service Effective January 27, 2013, the Postal Service is transferring First-Class Mail International packages and rolls from the market dominant (Mailing Services) product list to the competitive (Shipping Services) product list and renaming it First-Class Package International Serviceâ„¢ (FCPIS). The same mailing requirements such as price groups, maximum value, and weight limits apply. The pricing structure for FCPIS will be more simplified in that there will be one price of $6.55 for 1- to 2-ounces to anywhere in the world; 3- to 4-ounces within each country price group will have identical prices; and 5- to 8-ounces within each country group will have identical prices. New for January 2013, free electronic USPS Delivery Confirmation International offers scan events for customers using select software or online tools.
  5. Bob, I went in and selected the spreadsheet for first class mail international parcels and looked at that rate sheet and didn't see much of a difference in current rates. I guess waiting to see will be what I need to do.
  6. Rescue Me and I Can't Rest are absolutely outstanding tracks. I remember getting the chills hearing both of these 45s! By the way, does anyone need a new old stock copy of Home Wrecker/Now That I've Found A Good Thing? I've got (no kidding) a BOX full of them with the Ronn/Jewel/Paula sleeve.
  7. Another sad loss to the soul world. http://stlouis.cbslo...ella-bass-dies/ Thanks for all of the great music, Fontella! Added by site from the above source: ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Fontella Bass, the St. Louis-born soul singer, died last night at the age of 72. “She was an amazing person, she had a big personality,” Neuka Mitchell, a daughter of Bass, said Thursday morning. Bass was the daughter of gospel great Martha Bass and sister of the Apollo star David Peaston who died earlier this year. She was best known for the 1965 R&B hit “Rescue Me” which spent a month atop the R&B charts and climbed to #4 on the pop charts, selling over a million copies. Mitchell says “Rescue Me” is just one thing that her mother will be remembered for. “First of all, she put God first and family second and the next thing was music and food. She loved to spend time with her family.” Bass got her start at the Showboat Club near Chain of Rocks, Missouri at the age of 17. After her children were grown, Bass relaunched her career as a gospel artist and received a Grammy nomination in 1995. She was inducted into the St. Louis Hall of Fame in 2000. Her star on the Delmar Loop is in the 6600 block of Delmar. A series of health problems starting around 2005 slowed her down and she suffered a heart attack earlier this month. Funeral arrangements are pending. http://youtu.be/RJmz7UJK_CY

  9. I've managed to bag a couple of tunes I didn't think I'd run into in my travels, namely Tommy Navarro "I Cried My Life Away" with the red/white/blue label and Dana Valery (promo) You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies and loads of other gap filler bits in excellent condition. I haven't been out to many soul nighters in our area, but hope to rectify this in 2013, and hopefully make a trip over to the UK in the new year.
  10. Absolutely a mind-boggling statistic to me! According to British collectors, there were about 7,000 soul labels in the United States in the '60s, and most of them never turned a profit. A handful made a killing. Shrine was in a long-shot business.
  11. I'll give it another go. I absolutely love Stevie Wonder, but this album fell flat for me. I definitely wasn't having a go at this record, but I didn't like it as well as his other efforts.
  12. I love Stevie Wonder, but this record is unlistenable. Stevie mumbles, the lyrics are dreadful, the music is not memorable. What happened with this release?
  13. I'm in the States and would fancy a look at the list. Cheers.
  14. How many records are there?
  15. Hello, I've got Challenge 59307, a promo 45 from Jerry Fuller for What Happened To The Music. The 45 visually grades M-/EX- with 3 faint marks near the edge on A that cause a brief 1/2-second of static on the intro, otherwise it plays M-. There is faint ring wear on the labels. 60 Pounds takes it including air mail first class mail international. Express would be much higher. Cheers, and I look forward to hearing from you.
  16. As someone that's fairly new to the soul scene (5 years), I immediately understand the value of having the original pressing (and still do), but the reality is some of the records in this box set are so rare that unless I win the lottery, my chances of owning the original are slim to none. For me, this box set would be a great way to listen to each record and decide if I like it enough to obtain the original.
  17. This one is sold and is going to the UK. Thank you!
  18. I have label photos and a full MP3 of the A side available upon request.
  19. I'm aiming for 250 Pounds for this record and will be happy to split the cost of express mail, which runs $30.
  20. I've got a Cadet promo 45 of Terry Callier's Ordinary Joe. Clean labels. 45 visually grades VGish (closer to VG+) and plays with light background noise about half-way through, then I don't hear the noise anymore. Plays loud and clear. Feel free to hit me up with an offer! I can provide a clip of both sides.
  21. I've got a promo copy of Ordinary Joe I've been debating back and forth about keeping. Clean labels, VGish record, plays with background noise on first half, but plays loud.
  22. I'm a BIT biased toward this song since I live in Minneapolis!
  23. @Pete, I've hosted a record fair for almost 10 years in the States, so I guess I've gotten used to it. I don't have a problem paying the going rate for a record if the record is priced spot on with regard to its condition. The one I was after was at least 50% overpriced based on condition. Definitely not wanting to start an argument, Pete. Cheers.
  24. I really think $25 was a good starting offer considering it was in VG to VG condition. I would gladly pay more if it was VG+, but the last copy sold for $41, so I thought it was a good starting point. I agree is was a low offer, but haggling on records is part of the fun.
  25. It is an issue copy that is graded VG to VG+. Had it been VG+, I would pay $50. A reissue of this record would only interest me if it was a different version. I thought I would give it ago. I will keep on my want list. cheers.
