  1. The lp arrived Friday, and I gave it a complete listen today. Color Him Father and another track or two good, but the album as a whole has several naff covers and some duff fillers. Great to have for this track alone. Got it for $14 U.S. all in for a EX- original.
  2. A nice little pile of mint gems were purchased recently in one go (all U.S. pressings). The Lorelei/S.T.O.P. (Stop) Columbia promo (more like VG+) Betty Lavette/Stand Up Like A Man Calla promo Jimmy Hughes/Hi-Heel Sneakers The Stingers/Do The Cissy Stax promo Shuggie Otis/Hurricane Epic promo Carolyn Franklin/Reality RCA promo Barbara Mason/Ain't Got Nobody The Velvelettes/A Bird In The Hand (Is Worth Two In The Bush) Doris Willingham/You Can't Do That Jay Boy promo Donald Bryant/I Like It Like That Hi promo Lyndon/I Love My Baby Hi promo Judy Clay/It Ain't Long Enough Stax promo Roscoe Shelton/I'm In Too Deep Sound Stage 7 promo Bad Weather/You Really Got A Hold On Me Maison Soul Jay and The Techniques/Baby Make Your Own Sweet Music picture sleeve Eddie Wilson/Shing-A-Ling Stroll Backbeat promo
  3. Tell him to buy a download or a reissue 45. I'm all for charity, but I would never use this tactic. I also agree with the other person that pointed out that if the stock copy is cheaper, play that. Maybe he's use this tactic enough times that it works. I used to have a guy that would buy records off of me who was always asking if I'd throw in some empty 50s/60s company sleeves with his $5 purchase. As if!
  4. Also, if you have a setup to DJ at home, try to practice with fading songs/using the mixer and headphones.
  5. Make sure you know how to operate the equipment! Thankfully on my first go, someone gave me a few good tips which I still use (and I ain't telling!). Cheers.
  6. I paid $82 for a M- copy + $4 post.
  7. After nabbing (but waiting for it to arrive in the post a M- Marlena Shaw Wade In The Water 45 this week, I just picked up this little gem from another record collector in Minneapolis in M/M- condition. Really chuffed to have this one added to the collection.
  8. @Dave, Found it. Thanks again!
  9. @Dave, Cheers. What LP is it on?
  10. Hello, I just heard this recently and really enjoyed it. I assume it's on 45? What's it going for? I did a few brief searches and didn't find one. Many thanks!
  11. I just picked up a M- copy of Wade In The Water, so this fits in nicely!
  12. @Dave, Here's the link to the record fair. It's on 27 July. https://rare-az.org/pages/exhibitors.html They have a list of record fair vendors. My favorite is John Dixon of Bendover, Inc. Cheers.
  13. Dave, Having lived in Phoenix a couple of times, the best thing I can tell you is to make sure you have a refreshing beverage in your hands at all times in the summer. It gets bloody hot. (110 degrees is 110 degrees -- even if it's a dry heat.) Zia Records used to be worth a nose about. There's a regularly scheduled record show (check recordshowsofamerica.com) there. Other stores showing up: Stinkweeds Records, Revolver Records. Looks like most others have closed. Cheers.
  14. Good grief, they don't clean any of the records? Methinks they would grade better in some cases (but maybe they're doing it to cover up scratches?) I use a soft chamois cloth I place into a container of water with a few drops of washing-up liquid in it, apply it (but being careful of the label), wipe the side dry with another cloth and flip it over. It takes all of 10 seconds.
  15. Can someone post the link to the BBC iPlayer for these? Cheers.
  16. @Stacey's Dad, my wife and I stayed at the Ambassador East fall of 2011 on a visit with my wife for an anniversary trip to Chicago after really enjoying the hotel at SoulTrip. Unfortunately, the hotel has been sold, redone (but they still have a pump room) and now is a Public Hotel. Not the same.
  17. I went to Amazon and listened to samples of his new CD. They are all Motown tracks, and each one is as dreadful as the other. I thought the Phil Collins one was rubbish, but this one just inched past it for me. https://www.amazon.com/Aint-Mountain-High-Enough-Hitsville/dp/B00AYJCEYC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369856204&sr=8-1&keywords=michael+bolton Some of the lowlights include his versions of: Nowhere To Run You Keep Me Hangin' On What's Going On Enjoy?
  18. My wife watches The Ellen Show and wanted my reaction to this. The good? Delta Goodrem has a really nice voice? The bad? Any song with Michael Bolton. The guy has absolutely no vocal range whatsoever. Your thoughts on a postcard, please. Marvin and Tammi must be rolling over in their graves. https://www.ellentv.com/2013/05/23/michael-bolton-sings-aint-no-mountain-high-enough/
  19. I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to Motown/Tamla/Gordy/Soul 45s. Even if I have a M- copy and I find a nice demo copy, I'll always buy it (as they are usually cheap and oftentimes mint in the States). Cheers, Tim
  20. Chris, I would say it depends on whether you can live with keeping those records in those conditions. If so, I would go for a reduction. If not, I would get a refund from the seller and request to return them and file a claim with PayPal if they don't respond. What were the conditions of the eBay sales, no refunds or ? Cheers, Tim
  21. Hi Everyone, I'll be coming through the SE part of the States this week and am going to be very close to Macon and Muscle Shoals (within 40 miles of Muscle Shoals and 50-60 miles of Macon). From a soul standpoint, I suspect these are worth a stop! For Macon so far: -Otis Redding statue -Otis Redding bridge -Drive by theater where Otis Redding discovered Anything else? For Muscle Shoals: -Other than driving by FAME and any other studios, anything else a good stop? Any good record stores in either town for 45s? Cheers!
  22. @Bri Pinch, I would have thought the blue label was a later pressing. Can the blue label still be considered an original? I'm pretty excited about the demo! Cheers.
  23. Hi everyone, I just picked up a promo on Philips yesterday (but need to clean/grade it, but it will be on offer after) and also have a stock copy the same as the black label that's more blue. Is the promo fairly rare compared to the stocker? I always find the black label if I find it. Is the bluish 60s label a reissue? Cheers!
  24. Hello everyone, I've had two copies of Beggin' on US black label Philips, but I just picked up an aqua label copy. I'm assuming this was a repress? Cheers.
