  1. Good question and a good answer hear, I think, I saw a number of people at Hipshaker that I recognised from more 'rarified' soul do's, dancing away to Bearsy's 'cheese' and having a whale of a time (and joined in myself) and would guess it's the whole weekend/holiday/loads of mates kind of thing that engenders the less serious heads. I dont go to many nighters but guess you get a similar buzz? I cant talk for other scooter events, but I love the Isle of Wight which I guess is slightly different from the mainstream in that there are loads of events scattered around Ryde offering loads of choice, loads of different places to visit etc. I've only been to places like Hipshaker and the Crown and always found the crowds to be as friendly as you would expect at a Northern do, complete with good dancefloor etticette (apologies for spelling) and generally up for a good time. No real sign of the combats and tatty clothes brigades who come across more leary. The girl I travelled down with was black and didnt once feel uncomfortable or threatened at Hipshaker or anywhere else we went (not to say they aren't still lurking down there somewhere). I'm going to post my playlist on the playlist page in a moment, so you can make up your own minds (I know there is a full cheese quota in there lol) but my tunes seemed to be well received and kept people on the dancefloor. Our guest DJ Ian Stebbings played a much rarer set which again was well received. To sum up, the IOW rally can be a fun place to go, enjoy and let yourself go, but if you only want to hear rare or upfront northern, don't go. Bearsey mate, I'm shocked to hear that happened to you at the Crown especially as there seemed to be alot of negative publicity against other well known event, trumpeting the rare soul on offer at the Crown. I'm agreeing with everyone tonight, so Moldie you are right it's the promotors job to book the right DJ's for his event and pulling someone's set is a bit naughty. Can't comment about the other room at Hipshaker as I didnt really make it in there. Does any of that make sense? Dave

  3. We run a mini bus (max 18 seater) a couple of times a year from Walthamstow to various venues and it works out ok cost wise if we are going down to say the Kent Soul Club - it's a good laugh there and back, way way better than driving, but a pain in the arse if you are the one organising especially adding up numbers etc. Dave
  4. Our night Walls of Heartache is on in Walthamstow - fairly easy to get to if you are in North or East London and 20mins from Liverpool Street on the overground - night buses are frequent to get back. 9.00pm to 2.00am - Northern and Motown - guest DJ ths month, Andy Kempster £5.00 on the door but a special deal available to first time soul-sourcers We're only a small venue but usually packed with atmosphere Cheers, Dave
  5. Although my little night might qualify as 'a tin-pot soul night' lol as someone described above, we have already operated a guest club policy and have had the Boogaloo, Kent Soul Club, Blueskies and 81 Soul Club's as guest clubs at our night - which works quite well every now and then. Ady will also do reduced entry to the 100club for anyone travelling on from our place on the odd occasion we have clashed, which is a pretty cool guesture as most would travel on without the reduction. All clubs are welcome to send us or put out fliers and we do try to give London events a mention on our facebook page and e-mails. We also run trips to other clubs on occasion from our place which can be a laugh, so I would say clubs can co-operate/support each other without any hassle - could easily be transfered onto the 'bigger stage' of the allnighter, I am sure. Dave

  9. Used to absolutely love this show, thanks for the u-tube link Pete Dave
  10. PM'd you Dave
  11. Well said, I think Dave
  12. We do a free membership for our regulars that gets them entry for £4 instead of £5, plus our Christmas night is always free to members. It's not done to keep them coming back as a pound wont make much of a difference one way or another, but more as a thank you and a recognition of them. Seems to work for us. Dave
  13. Thanks guys, Looks like the Herbert Hunter goes on my list but the others.... I should say thanks to Chris Dalton for putting these tunes on the free Valencia CD which is where I picked up on them (awsome CD by the way) Thanks again, Dave
  14. 15. E-Mailed you mate Dave
  16. Its a nice tune, that I picked up after Kev Moore played it at our place - one of several good tips I have got from Kev. My favorite today though is The Miracles 'Whatever makes you happy' Dave
  17. I'm currently playing Chris Clark - Head to Toe Martha & the Vandellas - Come and Get These Memories The Marvelettes - What's Easy for Two is Hard for One Dave
  18. My tune arrived yesterday Gene, well pleased. Dave
  19. I would have a look in past event or the forum for the Boiler Club events and PM the organisers, they should be able to give you some pointers/ideas. The Boiler is more of an R&B type night, full of Spanish Mods etc, but has a brilliant atmosphere and is well worth a visit if its on when you are there. Hope this helps and apologies for not remembering who runs it. Cheers, Dave
