  1. Sorted now thanks. Dave
  2. Looking for a copy of Big Joe Turner -Two Loves Have I on Bluestime Doesnt need to be mint, but ok for DJing. Cheers Dave
  3. It's on Hoe Street past the cinema on the right, going towards Forest Road. Palmerston is still going but I think the Brewery Tap is gone (was that down by St James Street - if so it's a gym now) and the Standard definately is (shame many a fantastic gig in there). Small world - we even have a proper Northern Night on in the Stow. The Cock Tavern has been done up, but still has the same dodgy clientel lol.
  4. The Rose and Crown - they have live bands, comedy, the lot - loads of pubs done up into 'gastro' pubs (even the Checkers), it's turned into quite an interesting place. Even the Bell is now trendy (full of w*nkers from Stoke Newington in red trousers and sandals). Even went into the Checkers and there was some bloke playing Northern(ish) on vinyl - reissues unfortunately but all definately changed in the last few years. Dave
  5. Yep there's been quite a few 78's only nights (Jazz, Swing and Mento/Calypso) at my local boozer in Walthamstow as well - DJ's from the 'Shellac Collective' Dave
  6. Yes for me - it's the charges this end that are the most painful as more US sellers are writing the true value of the record on the customs declaration and we cop the import duty, plus the infamous £8.00 UK postage handling fee. I only look at lower priced stuff now and factor all these things in to any price - means I've bought one tune from the states in the last 3 months and that was $11.00. Dave
  7. I popped in last Sunday - first time I've met Lee, nice guy. Big thumbs up on the food from my daughter. Dave
  8. Looking for a copy of The Magic is Gone - needs to be good enough to DJ with as a minimum. Cheers, Dave Sorted now thanks - well done to Soul Source Dave
  9. Nice one - I'll PM you my mobile number mate, in case you make it! Dave
  10. We have a typical sort of local do going out in Walthamstow (end of the Victoria Line) 40 to 60 people, some rare sounds, some well known. Nice little club, dancefloor, always friendly - 15 mins walk from the tube, running 9.00 till 2.00 so night bus back into town. Next one is the 27th July with guest DJ Kylee Sims. Dave
  11. Sorry to hear that Dani - it was a great weekender Dave

  15. I dont flier very much and always ask beforehand and in fairness have never been refused. I dont mind people putting out fliers at our place but again prefer it if they ask first. Can only remember once in the last eight years where someone came in, dropped some fliers at the desk and buggered off - must of annoyed me as I still remember it! Dave

  17. Looking for a copy og the Lovables " you cant dress up a broken heart" on Toot, must be in reasonable nick. Also George Byrd "I'm Available" (I know there is one up on e-bay at the moment but would rather buy through here). Thanks, Dave
  18. Not really noticed an increase in charity nights in the London area, so maybe it's a regional thing. It's true we have had an increase in new events, and like alot of things, some are good run by people who 'get it' and some are complete tosh run by people who dont 'get it' and never will, attempting to trample on all those around them - but that's a different subject. Maybe we could have some examples of these events, wanabee DJ's etc? Find it hard to imagine people ripping off a charity in the way implied, but again let's hear about it properly. Whenever I've run a charity night I've only ever once been asked by a DJ for expenses, always got our venue for free and only really had to pay the doorman. The facebook advertising thing is easy (IMO) - it'd easier and nicer and often gets a better response than advertising on here these days. I used to go straight to the events section but rarely bother now (even for my own event lol). Dave
  19. My 14 year old has looted my Harrington and 54-46 T shirt so far, with the words 'vintage is in' lol Addidas bags and Fred Perry's buttoned up to the neck very common amongst the teenagers down here. Dave
  20. Good year for me Soul-wise, with a great trip out to the Valencia weekender with all the DJ's scaling the hights but Maria and Carl Willingham really smashing it and new friends made. Been privalidged to have been at some great nights at Solid Hit Soul in London - top tunes from residents and guests. Enjoyed Soul nights all across London. Looking forward to going to Rimini and Lifeline for the first time this year and hopefully back to Valencia again. Well pleased as well to have been asked to do a few guest DJ spots and ad a real blast doing them. Actually managed to buy some long time wants as well. Dave
  21. Thanks - will have to revisit that doc - Rosetta Tharpe's guitar playing in particular mind blowing
  22. Thought I saw on a BBC4 documentary that she also hung around with Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the 50's? Dave
