  7. So what eventually happened to the stock in these big warehouses eventually were they re-cycled or just scrapped ie landfill etc, also ive heard of people buying thousands of records blind back in the day, any info on that?
  8. I don't think House Of Sounds was John Lamont. I would probably have avoided him as I knew he'd been around the block with Global and John Anderson so there seemed little point in going there. In fact I wasn't in Philly that long - maybe 2 or 3 days. I actually stayed at Val Shively's whilst I was there and I went to House Of Sounds on day 2. Philly was a bust out compared to L.A. I would have had to stay there months to turn up stuff I reckon. John A had been ploughing Philly for years already so the best bet was to try and get to something where there was a huge turnaround, like House Of Sounds. It didn't take me long to realise I'd have to live there for a year, to do the place seriously. I still think the hit rate would have been sluggish though. Just too many records....... Ian D This is one thing i can`t even begin to imagine, just how many records were in these places, were the records in any kind of category order? obviously not northern soul etc, or was it just a case of ploughing through everything and taking your chances?
  9. Yeh there deffo are issues, i had one many moons ago, saying that its not one that turns up that often

  13. Heres the Story, i was in a taxi getting a lift from a venue i`d dj`d at, chatting to the taxi driver, he told me his older brother was into northern soul and the usual he had a box of old records in his loft. I asked him what sort of stuff there was, he didn`t really know, but i was welcome to them if i wanted to take a look, i took his adress and phone number. Rang him a couple of weeks later and went round. It was one of those plastic covered hundred boxes covered with dust. Opening up as per usual bootleggs the usual things that have allready been said, but i carried on not wishing to be ignorant. Got about half way through and then hit a few british things. STEP OUT OF LINE, ON THE BRINK, EVERYTHING I TOUCH TURNS TO TEARS, DETERMINATION, then more bootleggs, then at the back five or six imports J.D MARTIN, JOE HICKS, DANA VALLERY DEMO, RUBIN DEMO, MICHAEL AND RAYMOND DEMO and a nice copy of EDWARD HAMILTON-BABY DON`T YOU WEEP, mike terry credits complete with nasville mattrix. Told the guy some of the records i would like, and maybe an idea if he contacted his brother to make sure he didn`t want them. He told me his brother had emigrated to Canada and he had helped him clean his house out before he went, his brother had told him to just put the box in the skip but he`d kept them for some reason. Then we struck a deal on what he wanted and i walked away lets say more than happy.

  15. The amount of times, people have said this to me Dave, there must be millions of records in lofts all over the country. Then again coupled with the other saying, " i went to tha wigan place" probably about right
  16. How many times have you been in a taxi or just chatting in company and someones come out with this statement. Have you followed one of these up and hit the jackpot?. Personally ive followed up loads and have found nothing really. Until a few months ago, when we really hit the jackpot. Lets have your stories please

  22. Although i never witnessed this ive been told by many reliable sources. At the Oval ball in york, that was run by Alan rhodes on a thursday night, there were allways coaches outside from newcastle, north east etc. Anyway apparently one night a lad bugged the hell out of alan to play a record all night, so at the end of the night he played it, loved it that much he took it to wigan with him on the saturday......................The record.............BOBBY PARIS-I WALKED AWAY. As i say i wasn`t there but been told this by loads of people who apparently were.
  23. That was gonna be my next question Dave about the supply to jukeboxes and there stock. See you should allways listen to the wife
