  1. Went to the toilet at 4.30am this morning. Went back to bed and laid wide awake, before getting up and taking my little smooth fox terrier Rosie for a couple of hours on the local beach. We had a lovely time, and it was a glorious morning, in beautiful surroundings. Best part of the day for me

  8. Just an update on little Josef the starling we saved from the magpies on monday. Sadly he died through the night, he started with a snuffling noise before bed last night and wasn`t well. He had a little food and we bedded him down. Got up this morning and sadly he`d gone. We tried our best, they are so fragile at this age. R.I.P LITTLE FELLA.
  9. Yeah i thought that, we`ll see how he goes on, just happy, he`s happy and feeding at the moment
  10. Yes i was watching one on youtube talking Dave. The plan is to release him, i`m trying not to imprint on him too much. But yesterday his head was just drooping down all the time. Once i`d taken him out of the box and put a mirror in he perked up 100%, they are a flock bird so i just think he was finding it difficult being by himself.
  11. Hi Pete, don`t like bullies, bloody magpies!!!
  12. Was out with the dogs on monday night. And what i thought was a tennis ball, fell out of the sky about 10 yards in front of me. Then 4 Magpies swooped down and started attacking it. Then i realised it was a fledgling Starling, so i ran and scattered the Magpies, the poor little fella was screaming so i picked him up. I`m not one for moving fledglings as i believe they are better off left, i stood and waited and looked to see if i could see or hear mum and dad, but sadly no, just the four magpies sat waiting on the house gutter above me. So i took him home, put him in a little box and left him, as he was in shock. He`s been with us 3 days now, yesterday i didn`t think he was going to make it, his head was going right down. So i started getting him out and feeding him, we put a little mirror in his new storage tub home and a couple of twigs for him to perch on. He picked up straight away, i was having to force feed him at first, he was very weak. But now he`s taking the food off the end off a straw, and he`s happily sat chirping in front of his mirror on his new perches. Been taking him in the garden with me and he hops along behind me. He only flies about 3 feet, so i`ll feed him up, until he`s properly fledged, and release him in the woods where i walk the dogs.
  13. Too bloody right Steve, the one on the left Rosie is 2 years old and the one on the right is Bob, he`s 10 months old, they are not related we got Rosie from a rescue centre when she was 1 year old, and we got Bob this April, from a Breeder in Exmouth, he`s royalty lol, he`s got a massive pedigree, 5 generations, his grandad was Best in Terrier group at crufts 2007. To be honest Steve, ive had Jack russells all my life, and had never heard of this breed, had heard of the wire haired fox terriers, but not the smooth haired. They are one of britains oldest breeds, ive traced them back to the 1700`s, really fascinating, apparently the jack russells were bread down from these and other terriers. They are real working dogs, the older one is teaching young Bob how to hunt at the moment, it`s great to watch, she shows him rabbit runs and rat holes under bushes. I have a mate who has a farm with a big hay barn, last year i took Rosie, he used an old stihl saw engine, with a length of hose from the exhaust into the rat holes to flush them, and Rosie & his two Jack russells were left to it, great fun. 39 came out that day. We are going back in a few months and taking Bob this time.
  14. Can we have one of your sausages please? How to lose weight the easy way. Get two smooth fox terriers.
  15. One of the first people i bought a record off at a nighter, all those years ago. Sterling job Rod, well done, and good luck. Harry.
  16. A few from my Daily walk along the north east coast at Easington. A gorgeous day today, saw a redstart sadly too far away for my little camera. Also the Grasshopper warblers that are in residence annually here, were in full song today. What`s the butterflies names Suz? i know the peacock, but not the other one.
  17. Ha ha it`s my name for facebook Suz, we are lucky to live in such a lovely place. It`s a beautiful place at Cassop hun xxx
  18. Will do Suz, the lake is at Cassop, keep posting your lovely photo`s on here and faceache. Love from us both xxxx
  19. Have to time it right on that water Steve, it`s not very deep and the place really is stuffed with Tench and bream & Crucians, 100lb is a common weight, you have to time it so they have just started waking up and feeding up before spawning, otherwise there is that many eggs in the water, they just feed on that, and then the bites are very twitchy, but when it`s right, it`s madness, every cast a fish mate. Oh they like catching Rats, i have a mate, who has a farm, he lets mine and his jack russells in his barns for the day, he has an old stihl saw engine with a length of pipe on the exhaust, and puts the pipe down the holes, and they just stand and wait, it`s great to see them doing what they were made for, 46 came out last time we were there, had to lift the dog into the car at the end of the day, she was that knackered.
  20. Hi mate, yes he`s settled in fine and they get on great together, he`s just hit puberty so as you can imagine his testosterone levels are through the roof at the moment, they already a very active breed, but he`s like a blur at the moment, poor little chap can`t settle at the moment. So it`s lots of walks and training at the moment to keep his mind active, which is great for me, as it gets me out, and i enjoy doing it. All the best to you my mate
  21. Some lovely photo`s coming in now we are into springtime. Nearly time for my Tench fishing escapades at this Beautiful lake in the North east of England. Last year i took only one of my friends with me, this year i`ll take my beloved Smooth fox terriers with me, the "Rough & Tumble twins" (Aka Rosie & Bob) Should be a fun day out, from dusk til dawn
  22. Sent you a message George.
  23. Terrible news. A real soul gent. Thoughts are with his family and friends at this terrible time. R.I.P MICK.
