  1. Just managed to get hold of the hard to find album that contains this I've been after this for a while now, but it's always gone for around £50-80. So chuffed that by a stroke of luck I managed to buy an excellent copy for would you believe £4.99 I really think this is the best version as do quite a few I have spoken to. What are your thoughts? Fire away!!!
  2. in the polls of 2006/7 vinyl sales were up by a staggering 80%, although these figures were hugely due to Indie and D&B artists preferring to press predominantly on vinyl. These types of bands still prefer vinyl pressing so the figures may still be in this region in 2010 taking into account that the popularity of D&B and Dubstep (which is a predominantly vinyl scene) has rocketed within the last 2 years. By the way, this article was printed over a year ago too Article Mail on Sunday
  3. Just bought this on a German Tamla Motown Demo. What a top track from a top album from the Bradford's first lady of Motown Kiki Dee
  4. If you look at the 'V.I.P.' logo, yours is different than mine and the others that are showing on here. yours is out of line? Also the are a few other differences, i.e. yours says 'DJ Promo' whereas the original ones say 'Promotional not for sale' and yours also has the matrix number at the bottom, the others don't. I'd be inclined to think that yours is a booty, Not sure, the experts will advise you shortly I'm sure.
  5. Just an update on the above purchase. I got it in the post and as far as i can see from the comments above it is an original. The dead wax has stamped - SK4M--2687-1 BJD (in stamped script writing.) Close to that is scratched - AC-LX 155104 and AC-II148301 The bad news (and good news) is that it came with a rim crack. If it's clicked together it's plays perfectly without clicking whatsoever. I complained immediately and opened a 'Item not as described' case on Ebay, and the seller immediately refunded my payment in full and told me to keep the record. So what are your thoughts? Steve
  6. After reading the above comments, I got in touch with the seller asking whether the matrix was stamped or scratched, and he has replied saying that it is stamped in the dead wax. So looking like an original and a bargain too. :-) I'll see when it comes and keep you updated. Steve
  7. Thanks for that, can you tell me what I should be looking for when it comes please? Oh and what's the worth in both scenario's? Thanks again.
  8. Hi again folks I have just purchased this and to be honest I expected to pay a lot more than I did, putting my maximum bid at £40 and bagged it for £13. Didn't really know what it was worth, but I am collecting US Motown/Tamla/Gordy/V.I.P/Soul demos at the moment, and i haven't seen one of these before. The item is described as VG+ condition. Thank you for any comments. Steve
  9. Thanks very much for the info. Now I know what i bought :-)
  10. Thank you for that. although it doesn't have any artwork, it is a white label with writing on it, and came in a plain cover. Only cost me £2.20 so well worth it for the tracks it contains. Thanks again. Steve
  11. Hi fellow soulies! I have just purchased a 'Lou Johnson' 4 track EP Demo. The EP has the following tracks; 1 - Always something there to remind me 2 - Unsatisfied 3 - Magic potion 4 - Reach for me The matrix number is 'GLOU 1' Has anyone come across one of these and if so what is the history of it? I thought when I bought it that is may be a bootleg, but the deadwax is actually stamped and not scratched on as a boot may be? so looks like a legit release. Any info greatly appreciated. Thank you Steve
  12. I think and far better idea would be a coffee bar, as in the old days the mods and soulies always used to have a fave coffee bar to haunt. Less to set up, and you're not depending on alcohol sales to earn a crust. Of course you have the health, safety and cleanliness issues to contend with, but selling food and hot and cold drinks would be far more profitable than alcohol. Then of course you could theme it on soul or Motown??
  13. Don't see how anyone can say that any record is the rarest record in the world? I mean, you could do your own tune and get just 1 pressed up as an acetate or dub plate, and there you have it, only 1 in the world, and there must be loads like that.
  14. Has anyone else seen this?? Either it is the rarest record in the world, or the guy is living in Cloud Cuckoo Land, Or is it just me that's going doolally tap?? I DON'T BEEELIEVE IT!!
  15. Heheh, excellent Sue, well done., thought it was going to go into 2 pages LOL.
  16. Heheh, Just a bit of fun, glad you like it anyway :-)
  17. Just going through some old documents and found this Soul poem that I wrote about 37 years ago. Wondered if anyone on here had ever sat down and put pen to paper and captured their feelings about this wonderful music? Old King Cole's Soul Old King Cole Loved his Soul Loved merry old Soul did he He called for Danny White, Jimmy Thomas and Bill Black Man! What a fiddlers 3 Now first of all came Jimmy Thomas and he sang 'The beautiful night' when he had finished he left the stage And on came Danny White When Danny White was on the stage He sang 'Cracked up over you' Then he sang 'Natural Soul Brother' To mention but a few Then on the stage came our well known friend Bill Black in great demand And guess who came on with his combo That's right! The Bob and Earl band Now both the bands went on to play 'Little Queenie' and 'My little girl' But all this soulful music Sent King Cole into a whirl Then all the Ladies, Lords and Dukes All did their very best But alas they could do nothing And laid his Soul to rest.
  18. Ah well, as said above, great album full of classics, you could probably do a full set with just this record :-) Hey Ho! back into the pile it goes LOL. KTF!
  19. Hi soul Connoisseurs I have had for years an album on the 'Inferno' label called 'Detroit-a-go-go' (Burn 11) It has all the big tracks produced by 'Richard 'Popcorn' Wylie and Tony Hester. Any idea if this is a rare album or not, have searched the net and can't find anything about it on there. Thanks people.
  20. I know this is nothing to do with records, but I saw the same thing on Ebay today. Someone from Hong Kong selling 2 instances of the same item, one was £17 + .99p postage and one was .99p and £17 postage? I thought that Ebay were supposed to have sorted the high postage hackers out?? When I post a record I usually charge £1.50 within the UK, that includes postage, packing and travelling to the post office which is 1 mile away.
  21. Thanks all for the info, greatly appreciated!!!
  22. YES!!!! erm?? and in English? LOL
  23. Don't know really, just looked it I thought, TBH in the 40 years that i have been on the scene i don't think I have ever seen a demo copy, so that maybe why it looked strange to me. Sorry if i caused any grief
  24. Is that a Pressing then or a bone fide Demo??
