Why Can't I Get This Without A Mortgage?
Linda Jones - Just can't live my life Why can't I get a copy of this for under £30, I remember when they were 10 a penny on the UK release. It's a vital record to have in any collection and I want one in mine (again). Used to have it years ago and I still think it is the epitome of Northern Soul.

Does Anyone Have A Soundclip
what a supurb track, the more i hear it the more I love it. I'm definately toying with the idea of playing it at my next gig in Leeds, a little downtempo yes, but still quite danceble and I think the crowd will love it all the same. Soul music at it's finest!

Where Are They Now?
Wow! thought this would be a good thread. This is facinating stuff and very thought provoking. I'll bet that most of the artists aren't even aware that some of their recordings are popular in the UK, and now worldwide, and that some of the records are worth Hundreds and sometimes thousands of £. It's a shame that they can't see the fruit of their work. Wouldn't it be amazing to round up the ones that are alive and/or fit enough, and have a massive weekender or even weeker and have them all performing the tunes that we know and love? That would be the concert to end all concerts. I'd love just to see their faces when they saw the reaction of the crowds dancing and singing along to the tunes word for word. How amazing would that be? Last year I went to see the amazing Kim Weston in Leeds performing an intimate concert. She was amazing. Even after her near death experience of being thrown into the air 20ft after being hit by a car, and the hospital having to literally sew her back together, she still put on a stunning performance. The poor girl tried her upmost to hit the high notes that she could in her younger days, and the crowd really appreciated it. Amazing that at over 70 years old, she still has the gumption and the bottle to get up and do her thing. NOW THAT'S PROFESSIONALISM. Amazing!!! Steve.

Where Are They Now?
Don't know if there has been a thread on this subject before or not, but I though it might be a good subject for the forum members to get their teeth into. I've always wondered what happened to the Soul gods that made the records that we all know and love. As we all know, many of the artistes probably recorded one maybe 2 records which were flops on their release in the states the UK or anywhere else, and I'm sure that after the records flopped, some of the artists went back to their day jobs. But what were their day jobs?, or what happened to them afterwards? For instance i heard that Johnny Bragg (They're talking about me) ended up in prison or actually wrote the song in prison? anyone know? Did any end up as road sweepers or toilet cleaners? or even become businessmen or women in a completely different area instead of music? I'm sure that some of the soul efficianados on here will have a few stories for us. Steve

Does Anyone Have A Soundclip
Call off the search for the soundclip, 'Youtube' obliged willingley , Now I see where the 'DJ Genesis' came from, it's more or less a faster version of the original, it all becomes clear, and what a fabulous tune. What do you think?

Micky Moonshine - Going Rate?
- Does Anyone Have A Soundclip
Hiya Geezers Just bought this on the strength of the 'DJ Genesis' track, 'Tribute to Betty' I love the 'Genesis' track and I wanted to hear the tune that the song was about, and apparently this is it. I got it for £1.99 on the bay, so even if it's s*ite It'll make a nice cheap ashtray Does anyone have a soundclip of it please? Many thanks, Steve- Micky Moonshine - Going Rate?
Heheh!! LOL, no mate, never even saw it Tony , honest, no honest I mean it. Sounds like a good album though with those artists on it. When you say you left it with me, do you mean intentionally or accidently? That bloody swish'll have it.- Just Aquired This
Has anyone any idea if the 'DMB' is an original import? I agree with you all, they are both top tunes and even if th4e 'DMB' is a bit overplayed, still a great song. Thanks- Car Licence Plates
One of the best I've seen is MU51CAL (musical) but I can't aford it at £25000 When I opened my first record shop in Leeds called 'The Listening booth' I was on the phone at 9am on the fist of August (that's how it used to be), for a plate that read L15 TEN (LISTEN), I got straight through at 9am sharp only to be told it had already gone, when asked "how, it's only 9am" I recieved no reasonable explaination. The truth is that any new plate that spells anything decent is kept by the DVLA to go into their auction. Not fair at all, why should they make loads of money out of plates that spell names etc. when they tell us that we can't have them? surely they are condoning the fact that private plates look good "and we're gonna charge you £thousands to have one" To be fair, the DVLA should make ALL new plates available to the general public, not just the rich bar stewards that can aford thousands to buy one. I mean, where does the money go that they get from the sale of the plates? I'm sure we don't see any of it. One law for them and one for us eh?- Just Aquired This
I know Ian and I'm proud of my age, you know what comes with age mate? experience, and you can't substitute experience. The Judy Clay I heard on a CD the other day and it jogged my memory as to how good it was, so began the search to part with more of my hard earned , I think i got missen a bargain. Respect mate and all the best.- Top Dj Or Flop Dj ?
I don't care, i'll speak out cos what I am going to say is right and i've said it before. Good DJs are the ones that keep one eye on the records their playing, and the other on the dance floor. A good DJ should be able to see if the dance floor is waining or if the crowd are enjoying what is being played and change the tunes whichever way to match the mood. At the end of the day a DJ is an entertainer and is paid to entertain. I'm all for DJs who try to 'educate' also, as if it were not for them the scene may have died years ago. But saying that, the classics never fail and should be included in amongst the new tunes that are being played. In other words try to please everyone in the club as best they can. Unfortunately there is this devide that seperates the newies crowd from the oldies crowd and it's not too often that you'll hear a DJ playing both newies and oldies in the same set. I was a dancer for years before I became a DJ, and I think that helped a great deal, cos i knew the tunes that I liked to dance to and that's what I played when I was Djing, with a large degree of success. As for a competition? well, as you say, who'd have the bottle to turn up and 'face the music' (pardon the pun), also as said above it would have to be judged on many aspects, but the main one being keeping the dance floor buzzing for the longest. Ok Ok I know what you're going to say, "what about the DJs that break new tunes to educate the crowd" I know it's more difficult to keep the floor full when the tunes being played are mostly unknown, so the best idea would be to have maybe 2 catagories, 'Dancefloor' and 'Breakers'? Not sure how the 'Breakers' catagory would be judged though, maybe on originallity and the amount of crowd reaction? Count me in BTW, where do I sign?- Just Aquired This
Just aquired this from the bay for about a fiver. OK, a bit ropey I know, but a demo and a top tune for a fiver ain't too shabby in my books. Also got a nice copy of 'Ike and Tina Turner - Dust my Broom' for £8, is this the original import label?, it looks old enough. All comments welcome, well as long as they're nice ones- Micky Moonshine - Going Rate?
Anyone listened to the 'Barry St John' tune yet?- Spyder Turner
What a fabulous tune it is. Always works on floors and played at most of the major clubs. One of my faves. I'd say as above £10-20, although I got mine for £8ish about a year ago (second copy by the way). first was in the Wigan daze- Deejaying With Vinyl ( Best Practises )
I still think that the most reliable and robust cartridges and styli are Stanton 500AL. They can really take the knocks and they have a proven track record too. As for the decks, there is only 1, Technics 1200s (silver) or 1210s (black). many have tried but never beaten.- Micky Moonshine - Going Rate?
Yes, great female vocal dancer, not quite as full on as MM, but very good all the same. Definately worth getting hold of. So put me right, does the pink backing paper signify that it is a re-press? I did read the earlier posts but it all got a wee bit confusing. My Micky Moonshine also has the pink backing.- Probably Not Orig', But Is It Worth Owt?
yeah not bad that then, it's value has shot up by 7999%, wish my bank account had- Micky Moonshine - Going Rate?
Just thought I'd add my two penneth for what it's worth, erm 2p? I still think it's Paul Nicolas That's what i was led to believe as far back as the Casino days. here is another excellent example of British pop which may or may not have been picked up by the Northern scene yet, not heard it out like but I was put on to it by a VERY good friend of mine and a VERY regular contributor to 'SS' As you will notice, same label and produced by the same person 'Pip Williams' from 1974.- Probably Not Orig', But Is It Worth Owt?
I played the gig at a gig recently and it went down ok, maybe the change in attitude toward the more modern music helped, it is quite a funky tune. And the 'Matta baby' must be a re-press then I think as it is white label not pink. Still worth the dosh I paid though I think even so.- Value For Dean Parrish - Determination - Boom 60016
Got mine for £12 on 'Boom' absolute classic. Normal copy like not Demo.- Probably Not Orig', But Is It Worth Owt?
OiOi! just seen another copy on the bay for £30 buy it now, i'm a happy bunny, only cost me £8. bargain Also got a copy of 'Matta baby - Do the pearl girl' for £6. Whoop Whoop!! Both big Cleethorpes sounds if I remember correctly. I'm sure if Sir Ian Dewhirst sees this post he;ll put me right LOL - Does Anyone Have A Soundclip
