  1. Yeah good one matey!!
  2. Could write a manuscript on the subject, but best keep it short. Vinyl feel and aesthetics - Vinyl is better to work with and feels better to touch. Easier to find a vinyl in a record box by looking for a label or a sleeve, than having to search through every track on every cd. Tradition Proves that you a proper collector rather than someone who'd rather download and make Cds to cut costs. Keeps an air of originality and exclusivity about the scene and the collectors. Harder to find and gives you more of a buzz when you find the track you've been looking for for years. Anyone and his dog can download a cd or a bunch of MP3s, but only TRUE collectors opts for the vinyl option, and not just because they can afford it, but because it is the best format. I will save for months to buy that special record. Not right that a "DJ" can earn a wage when all they've done is sit at a computer downloading tracks to play. Rather than having collected vinyl for years, or at least made an effort to buy vinyl. In my opinion there should be 2 wage structures, more for a vinyl DJ, and less for a CD DJ. Vinyl vs CD sound Vinyl sounds better, warmer and more true to the original recording. CDs & MP3s sound too digital and can easily be recognised apart. MP3 is a compressed format, whereas to compress the file to small enough file to download, takes out the frequencies that it is said "you don't hear"? This is rubbish otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two when listening. My opinion anyway I'm sure you'll all agree LOL (NOT)
  3. Ok ta, 50p well spent then LOL. So what would an original be worth then?
  4. Hi fellow soulsters Does anyone know anything about a tune that I picked up at a car boot today? The track is by 'Lou Roberts & The Marks - Ten to one b/w Don't count on me. It is on a yellow 'Special products Division' label and states 'Special disc Jockey Record'. The matrix number is 'K-SP-104' It's not too bad to say I bought it on spec, quite blue eyed soul'y. It just looked nice Anyone any info at all please? Thank you
  5. Help wanted! I have just remembered one of the best (in my opinion) Northern tunes ever, and I was wondering how hard it is to get hold of? Marke (Chris) Jackson - I'll never forget you' I know it was released on 'Jamie' records, but did it ever get copied or pressed up on any other label? I can't imagine being able to afford, let alone find an original copy, so a booty will do fine if there were any, and it's one of those that I have never had a copy of in the 30 odd years of collecting WHAT A STUNNING TRACK Thank you.
  6. Hi peeps Just recieved this lovely 'Chess' demo copy of 'Love and brotherhood - Sugar pie honey' from the states. Just thought you might like to see it As I'm sure you'll know, it has the same backing track at 'Fuller brothers - Times a wasting' and 'Whispers - Remember me' If you didn't know, you do now

My view on this is sell your wife and kids first to make room and then the records come last LOL. I made the huge mistake of selling all my Disco 12s in the early 90s thinking that I would never play them again, and then what happens, a massive resurgence of Disco in the late 90s. Had to end up trying to get them all back cos I was getting offered gigs to play disco. have you thought about putting them into storage, or buying a secure shed to keep them in? You will get pennies from them from a dealer, you'll be very lucky to get 50p each mate believe me. Sad but true unfortunately.
  8. Just picked up a couple of nice tunes for pennies. Have these been played out? cos if they haven't they should be, both belters. First one is a modern tune which to me is quite reminiscent of 'Sydney Barnes- standing on solid ground' It's by 'Ted Taylor' and it's called 'keeping my head above water' I picked it up for a song and it's on US MCA Demo, with Stereo/Mono versions from 1978. The second is 'Luthor Ingram - I can't stop/My honey and me' on 'KoKo' records which depicts 1969. A few I have seen are either saying 1970 or 1972, I am pretty sure this is an original press. Anyway, nice tunes and both deserve to be getting played.
  9. Yes I did and I'll never make the same mistake again, I have now got the same tunes back and many more besides, thank god!. Biggest mistake of my life that.
  10. Yes I see your point/s, but don't you think that the fact that you had to trawl all over the place to find that little vinyl heaven that only you know about, the fact that back in the day, you travelled to clubs miles and miles away, just so that you could hear 'that tune' that only one DJ had, made the scene what it is and has become? I mean, if you could have bought the tunes from you local Woolies, and heard the tunes in your local disco, the scene would definitely not have lasted as long as it has. Also I think that the exclusivity will soon disappear from the scene if anybody and his dog can buy any tune on the internet, I mean with so many boots and re-releases about, it wouldn't cost that much to get a decent collection together. Or if Djs play MP3s in their sets that anyone can download. I mean nowadays if you got asked to do a northern set somewhere, it doesn't matter weather you have the vinyl or not, all you have to do is get on the pc and download all the faves. That's the killer thing about MP3s, they take away the exclusivity from the DJs that have collected the vinyl for years, and in the least the DJs that are just starting to collect vinyl. I'm afraid to say that if I hired a jock to play for me and they turned up with just a cd wallet, I would tell them to use the same door as they came in through, but facing the other way. My opinion anyway
  11. Hi peeps Does anyone know if 'Frankie and the Classicals - What shall I do' was ever booted on 'Calla' records or just re-released on 'Pye DD'? Thank you, any help appreciated.
  12. Yeah that's right, why? is he well known for selling boots?
  13. Ah well, never mind I bought it anyway, only cost £8.50 so not too bad, don't feel I've been ripped when I only paid that for it. And it's not a bad recording and it looks nice too :-) Thanks for your help peeps. Steve
  14. "Right I see"
  15. Heheh!! R I C, tar n e way
  16. ? sorry?
  17. It's the same with the new rules on Ebay for selling media i.e Cd's DVD's etc. You now HAVE to offer free postage. So if you sell a cd for instance for let's say for arguments sake 99p, you then have to pay for the postage, the Ebay fees, and the Paypal fees if paid through Paypal? so in all you end up losing. I approached Ebay about this and they say you only have to offer free postage as your first option and the you can offer paid postage for other option, but which would you go for, Free or Paid? They also suggested putting the price of the postage and fees onto the starting price of your item, but then if your starting price is too high, it puts folk off buying it or bidding on it. They argued that people are more inclined to bid if Free postage is offered, but that doesn't help the seller does it?
  18. OK thank you Soulman1964. What would a reissue be worth nowadays then?
  19. So what would the 'Teri De' copy be worth then and was it ever booted or reissued on the same label?
  20. Hi peeps can you experts please let me know if this is an original demo copy of Larry Hale - Once? Thank you Fellah s. Larry Hale
  21. Well if anyone on here has a copy of Linda Jones for sale for £25, I'll have it providing it is in decent condition of course.
  22. heheh! wanna be a partner? we can go halfs if yer like, should imagine there will be quite a lot of 'Dead Stock' though
  23. Heheh! Excellent, and thanks for inviting yourself to my funeral. I think it does mattey what happemns to your records when you leave, even if it's just for your peace of mind while you are here. I think I may open a record shop called 'Dead man's records' so if someone dies and hasn't left their records to anyone, the next of kin can drop them off and let me take care of them. How does this look?
  24. Heheh! "MMM? tastes like Arsenic this?"
