  1. I wrote to ebay to complain when they made the free postage rule. My case was that if I started a record, let's say an album for this scenario, at 99p, to beakon the bidders in, and the record only sold for 99p, and then I had to post it, which is £1.65 UK, and then there's the Ebay and Paypal fees, I would be loosing money hand over fist. Their reply was that i should incorporate the postage costs etc into the start price. But if you are starting a record at let's say £3.50 to incorporate the fees etc. instead of 99p, it puts folk of bidding. I've always beleived and still do, that if a record is worth it, it'll find it's own value so i have always started my auction price at .99p. but there is always the chance that it won't get bid on. Their excuse was that more and more online shopping sites are doing free postage so they were trying to attract more customers to Ebay by offering the same. But normal sellers are not online multi million £ companies that can afford to absorb the cost of postage, and most Ebay sellers cannot afford to give free postage. This week I put a load of classical LPs onto Ebay, I sold 7 to one seller, the postage cost was over £4 second class, so work it out, 7 records at 99p = £6.93. take the postage off that = £3.93, then there's the Ebay and paypal fees, packaging equipment and petrol to the post office.? Is it worth it?

  6. Early 70s, the Torch, Bill Blacks Combo - Little Queenie played by Martyn Ellis - GOD REST HIS SOUL
  7. THIS BROUGHT BACK A BAD MEMORY FOR ME. Wigan casino, Mid 70s, bought 3 records inside the club, and cos I didn't want to carry them round all night, I thought it was a "good idea" to put them in the car. Not wanting them to be on show in the car, I thought it would be a '"good idea" to put them in the boot. Well! how was i to know that the next day would be the hottest on record? Yeah you've guessed it, went to get them out next morning after taking a dip in the swimming pool, and the bloody things had all warped to hell I can't and don't want to remember what records they were, all I know is that i spent all my money that I had on them. BOOHOO!! GUTTED!

  14. Let's face it, The internet is here and it's here to stay and will get stronger as time goes on The Northern scene is here and it's here to stay and will get stronger as time goes on, savvy? Both separate forces and both as strong as each other, and both compliment each other as much as each other. There are simple reasons that venues are becoming quieter, 1 - Too much going on, we used to travel miles in the early days cos if you wanted to here the music we had no choice., now look at the events, there's one or more going on just down the road from you every week. 2 - Many or most of the folk that used to travel are now too old, have ties, have families to support or are simply skint and can't afford to, and the last reason goes for many of those who weren't around at the time too. 3 - Back in the day there was a lot more unity then now, it was a scene of love, not just of the music, but of the venues, and the people that attended. Now there seems to be a lot more animosity to people who like a different style of Northern, to newbies and those trying to get into the scene, to people that have their own opinions etc. The internet can not be blamed for the downturn in attendencies, if anything it's bound to help, I mean if you want to know whats going on where? what's for sale where? what's big? what's new? Where's the first place you look? Great thread BTW
  15. By the looks of things Wayne Fontana had a thing about Jackie Edwards.
  16. I wrote to her and told her it was a boot, and she replied and apologised for the mix up and said she'd re-list it to £15. and she did
  17. Hey Ho! can't win em all :-) just thought I'd ask. Again it could go into the age old subject of 'What makes a Northern Record?' Micky Moonshine? £34 on Ebay this week, Northern?maybe not, but gets played at Northern gigs. Susan Maughan - That other place? 60s pop, but because it was recorded by Wade Flemmons, it's classed as Northern? A debate that will never end.
  18. I got mine for about £8, but I think I was quite lucky. I'd say £15-£20.
  19. Um um um um um um, originally by Major Lance, Susan Maughan - That other place, originally by Wade Flemmons. Wayne Fontana's real name was 'Glyn Ellis'
  20. MMM? Think I was thinking of another record there? Flirtations - Stronger than her love?
  21. Not sure but I think that on the original promo of Patti & the Emblems, the other side has a different label colour, pink I think?
  22. Thanks for your help, It is a really nice version of the Jackie Edwards track, and whether it's not rare or obscure, still worth the 50p that I paid for it I reckon. It'll stay in the box for a bit. Are there any other 'Cover' versions of Soul classics that were released on major UK labels does anyone know?
  23. Does anyone on here like this song? I think it's really nice and quite northernesque It's the theme tune from the 'DFS' ads Youtube
  24. Hi folks and a happy new year. I have just picked up this tune out of a charity shop and wondered if it was obscure or not? It's really nice whatever, and the reason i bought it was because of the writer and not having heard it before. 'Wayne Fontana - Come on home' on Fontana 1966 written by 'J Edwards' (Jackie Edwards)? It's an excellent mid tempo dancer. I have a sneaky feeling that I have heard it before maybe by Jackie Edwards? might be wrong but seems familiar. Any info appreciated. OK, just found out it's not obscure, loads around for anything from £2 - £20., and Just realised it is the 'B' side of 'I feel so bad' Jackie Edwards on the UK re-release. Thanks anyway
  25. just to wish all of the forum members a fantastic 2010 and may you all prosper in everything you do. Respect and keep the faith!!
