  4. I was playing at the 'Halifax Free Soul Club' on New years eve eve, and this 'young' lady asked me to play something that everyone would dance to I said, If you can tell me one that will GUARANTEE that EVERYONE will dance, then I will play it. She thought, went away for a while and came back shortly saying 'Something new to do', I said OK but if EVERYONE doesn't dance I'll take it off . Just at the very minute it was time to change the record that I was playing and I put on 'Little Anthony - use your head', the dance floor packed instantly, and she said "Oh! it's OK this will do" and went off to dance.
  5. That begs the question of what was Dave doing at the Grand theatre watching an Agetha Christie play?
  6. So thats what happened to him
  7. Not seen Chris since 'Dream FM' was supposed to go legit!
  8. If are couple are waking together in the snow one would say 'I'll hold you' (Frankie & Johnny) Also when the roads are bad there will be a 'Roadblock' (SAW), but as Eddie Kendricks said you have to 'Keep on trucking'
  9. Yes Fred I remember most if not all of those you have named. Unfortunately some are no longer with us, but quite a few are and a few of them come to the alldayers. (Ian) Charlie Fineberg, Mary Kenworthy, to name a couple. I also know that John Rhodes is still about and Rob Hirst too, as I sold a record to him a few months ago, I recognised the name and wrote asking him if he was the same Rob Hirst that went to the Central in the 70s, and his reply was, "yes it is, and you could have cleaned the record before you sent it" . I'm pretty positive that Chris Jenkinson is still with us too. I'm sure someone on here will fill us in on the rest. Oh and Eric Smith is still around, he came into where I worked once for some Boiler parts, he's now (or was) working as a fitter. Steve

  12. It's really easy Jamie, Just buy a frame the size that you want (Charity shops always have em, and cheap) Take the back off and situate the records, flyers ect where you want them to be on the glass, then put the back back on. The records should hold in place due to the pressure of the back onto the them, maybe use a little adhesive or blue tack to hold the flyers in place. Remember you can always take the back off again and adjust the layout if you're not happy with it. Also it's a good idea to find a nice colour piece of card as the backing for the records, flyers. Hope that helps. Steve
  13. Think they're are both as good as each other, and as said above, the inst on the B side of the Rita Kent release is excellent.
  14. Watching this for the hell of it. Wonder what it's going to end up at? Still more than 5 days to go! Rita & The Tiarras - Gone with the wind is my love https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370730904562?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  15. I know that there are a lot of SS'ers that don't like albums, and I also know that many don't like bootlegs/re-releases, but given the option, would you rather buy the boot/re-release of a tune that you're looking for, or an original album that the track is on? giving that you couldn't afford an original 7".
  16. Excellent label though if you like non cheesy Disco/Soul
  17. Also this week - Dee Dee Sharp - There ain't nothing I wouldn't do for you - US Cameo
  18. Very big Jazz/Funk tune in the 80s, have the 12" and the album.
  19. I was wondering if this label was an early incarnation of the famous (and amazing) 'Prelude' records that turned out Disco and Soul in the 70s/80s?
  20. Here's the Jocelyn acetate 7"
  21. Yes I have actually recorded records myself and been to the cutting plant to watch the acetate being cut albeit a 12" acetate. Really interesting to watch, and before they cut the acetate they look at the tracks through a VERY powerful magnifying glass so that they can make sure that the grooves don't touch each other which would cause the record to skip. When they have actually cut the acetate, the engineer asked what we wanted putting on the runout groove, and we watched him physically scratch in the wording. Amazing to see. Also I have a framed 7" original acetate copy of 'Jocelyn Brown - Somebody elses guy' which came with the info sheet from 'Island' records.
  22. "OK, so you mean 'bootlegs on acetate discs' rather than 'Emidiscs'." Yes sorry that's what I meant and I should have made it more clear from the onset.
  23. I haven't had this conversation on here before Roburt???
