  1. DJ Genesis, sold one a few months ago for £19
  2. Nice one thanks, so the ones that say nothing about demo are boots. Thank you - Steve
  3. Anyone got any answers on this please?
  4. Hi peeps. What is the difference between the White and the Black US 'Jubilee' copies of 'Baltimore and Ohio marching band - Condition Red'? The white one has no text or indication that it is a demo, promo or Radio station copy, Is it please? Thanks
  5. Excellent answers and very enlightening. So it seems that anyone and his dog could release a US record recorded pre 1964 that renewal of copyright wasn't applied? So is it OK to release it on your own label then? and should you find such a record, would you have to apply to release it or just go ahead and do it?
  6. The last spot has always and always will be one of the most important, not that the other spots aren't it's just that the last spot is moreso. Reason being, that last DJ has to send the punters away with tunes still ringing in their heads, and those are the tunes that they will remember most, and hopefully tell their mates and they will come next time too. It is also one of the most difficult spots, as being the last on, you have to have listened what has been played for at least the last 2 hours and try not to play them again. A good DJ will always carry a lot more records than he/she needs to be able to combat and compensate for the tunes that he/she might have had planned in their set should they have already been played. One of the reasons, that many promoters will but the headliner or someone he can trust on for the last set.
  7. All points above agreed with i.e, Lookalikes but distinguishable by the stars, Good marketing model etc.But would still like to know how they got to licence so many releases? I know that at one time you could buy a Block licence that gave you permission to copy releases but not sure if you can now. I also know that royalties stay with the artist or kin for 50 years after their death which would make a few releases free from copyright unless they have been bought by another organisations. Has anyone got a link to the full catalogue? I would mind seeing what the extent of their releases are.
  8. I'm not disputing that fact Pete at all, although I haven't actually bought any I have heard the same about the quality. It's more about the amount that are going on there. What bugs me the most to be honest is that whoever is designing the labels, are making them VERY close to the original ones with the exception of the trade mark star. Some times you have to look very carefully to spot that, as it seems to be getting smaller and hidden amongst other text or branding. I know business is business being a business man myself, so i do get it.
  9. I have just been browsing eBay and the first 3 pages of of 50 items, I would estimate at being 90% of 'Outta Sight' re-releases. How have they managed to secure so many copyrights of records? is it a 'Block' copyright licence? It doesn't bother me seeing a couple here and there, but nearly 3 pages full of re-release after re-release is getting a bit too much.
  10. Wish Banksy would come and graffiti the front of my house, might push the price up a bit
  11. Hope that the Leeds Central Alldayer on Sunday will be as amazing as it has been for the last 3 years. Dreams that I will still be running it in 20 years time
  12. I have put younger DJs on at some of my events, one that stood out the most was Alex Sims. Great DJ, Great Dancer, Lovely dad (John Sims). A namer of the future.
  13. Thanks Pete. It's not often I'm right, but I'm wrong again
  14. All as said above, listen and learn is the best way. Also you can learn a lot about original and bootleg releases in Manships price guides and manships Bootleg guides, and there is a fair amount of info on Discogs if you know what tracks you are looking for.
  15. Didn't Timi Yuro come out on US Liberty too? Which would be the original release comparing the UK and US issue? which came first date wise?
  16. Although a bit of a cheesy one these days, I have always wondered what it would have been like to be in the studio when 'Afternoon of the rhino' was recorded. Must have been a huge set up and a massive orchestra, and the sound of those strings?? That would be my choice.
  17. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - More Love. Heaven on vinyl
  18. Can I ask advice on what you think this one is then please? If you look at the right hand image on the original post which is deemed to be original, on mine the print layout is different, and closer to the left hand image, but there are still differences there too? Matrix in deadwax is 'U4KM-901-1C-A1A' and on the opposite side an 'R'. Just interested as it is different to the ones already added. Steve.
  19. Well as a follow up to the original post, I got the record through this morning and all is as described. Rough looking as said but plays through with no skips. Well worth the £6 paid and a bit more besides. I have left the seller +feedback as has she for me, so all well and good. The moral to this story is, don't just sit and let things like this happen, stand up and fight.
  20. Will be very sadly missed in the House/garage music fraternity - RIP Frankie. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2594019/DJ-Frankie-Knuckles-dead-59-complications-relating-Type-II-diabetes.html
  21. Hi, can someone please give me some idea of what a copy of 'Ben E King - I can't break the news to myself' in M- condition on French 'Atco' with picture sleeve, should be worth? Thanks
  22. Update: After contacting ebay by phone and then informing the seller of my intended actions advised by eBay, the seller has agreed to go through with the sale. Now to wait and see if it comes.
  23. Situation so far. I have rang eBay and they say that the seller is in the wrong for listing it at the price I bought it at as a 'Buy it now'. If they wanted more for it then they should have listed it for a higher price, and that they should go through with the sale and put it down to a learning experience. I have been through all of the sellers other listings and none of them are an auction with a 'buy it now' price of $9.99, so it's unlikely that they were using an existing template. eBay said that they wished that more people would ring them and let them know of incidents such as this, as there are so many transactions on ebay (millions) that although some cases are reported on the eBay site, most of them are dealt with through an automatic system, so when they are informed of a case such as this by telephone, they will keep an eye on it and take further action where needed. Their advise was to not accept a 'cancel Transaction request', and write to the seller saying that you have contacted eBay and they have given you advise, and that they as good sellers should go through with the transaction. If not I am within my rights to leave them negative feedback and explain in the feedback what has happened to warn other buyers what has happened. OK I know how this is gonna end, I won't get the record, and I'll leave them negative feedback. But you may understand why I am a little peeved about this when I tell you that the record I purchased for $9.99, was 'Darrell Banks - Angel baby on US Atco . I have had many many purchases like this where i have bought records at a fraction of the worth on ebay, but in 11 years i have never had a seller go back on a deal, and neither have I, if I have mistakingly listed a record at the wrong price, or it sells for less than I'd hoped, I have never wrote to the buyer saying "i can't sell it to you cos it didn't fetch enough", there are safeguards on ebay to avoid this such as reserve prices or starting an aution with a price that is acceptable you you. Anyhoo! I have written again to the seller, so I'll keep you in the loop as to what happens. Oh!! and it's girl not a guy.
  24. I bought a record on eBay with a 'Buy it now' option. Seller is now saying that it shouldn't have been a 'Buy it now' item and has refunded my payment and wants me to cancel the sale It is virtually impossible to list an item with a 'Buy it now' option by mistake, as it is a seperate box you have to tick when listing, and then have to name your 'Buy it now' price. Any advice please?
