  12. I think you could judge really, as you would compare it to other records that were being played at the same time on the same systems. Another one that springs to mind, for me anyway, was Bobby Paris - Night owl, always seemed to sound low Fi and Hissy to me. But also it has to be taken into account that the recording methods weren't up to todays standards obviously, but again, saying that, some of the recording from back then were really very good depending on the record company and the studio or pressing plants where they were produced.
  13. Just a terrible recording full stop, all were/are the same.
  14. Millionaires - Never for me - USA 'Philips' 70s Repress https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311564826429?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
  15. Really sad news to hear that Melv has left us. He was a top man and was a regular at the 'Leeds Central' Alldayers over the past 5 years. He will be fondly remembered for his knowledge of the music that he lived for, and he will be missed by many. R.I.P. Mate. Steve
  16. Really sad to hear this news. Met Dodger a couple of times in the Soul circles and always enjoyed my time around him. R.I.P. Can I also in this thread pay my respects to another long time Soulie, and a regular at the 'Leeds Central' Alldayers over the past 5 years. Melv Kaye (Speedy) sadly passed away suddenly this week and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Condolences to his close family and his relations. R.I.P. Melv and Dodger, you will both be sadly missed.
  17. Skip Mahoney - Janice USA 'Salsoul' Demo 7" Now on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/-/311564566196?

  20. Hi back again to try to sort out whether or not the one I have just purchased is a boot or an orig. It is the USA Parkway Demo with 'Malibu' on the flip. On both sides there is a row of tiny dots or a stamp too small to read even with a jewelers loupe. Scratched into the run out on the 'Here she comes' side is P924BR , and on the 'Malibu' side is P924 (AA scratched out) and then A-R-2. Any ideas please?
  21. True about the US postage cost to the UK, it is, or should be about the same as UK to US, but some US sellers are charging $24 for some reason, and if they use the eBay Global Shipping Program , it will cost more. You really have to take the postage costs into account when buying from the US, it can make the difference between it being a bargain or the right price to it being expensive. For instance I found a record on Discogs for $3, it was cheap at that but only still worth about £8 in real terms. The seller was charging $24 P&P, which made it expensive to buy so i cancelled the order saying it was not worth buying with that price postage added.
  22. Also it's a good plan to avoid US sellers that use the eBay Global Shipping Plan. I wonder how many know that wherever you buy from in the US, the package has to travel to Pitney Bowes in Kentucky, where they open the boxes and repack it them make the package lighter for shipping so that it is cheaper for them to send? although they get a certain amount from eBay for the shipping, it is in their interest (but not the buyers) to ship for as little as possible. There are videos on Youtube from people that know and have experienced this. Here is one.
  23. I think it is still worth buying from the US and Europe if the records you are buying are worth more than you are paying. For instance I have just bought a copy of the Tymes - Here she comes on Parkway Demo for a little over a fiver, the postage cost was $14 about a tenner? so £15 is a good buy. There are many others I could name. But I have cut back on buying records that are selling for what they are worth from the States and Europe due to the £ to $ exchange rates. It's also worth remembering that it costs the same to post from Europe as it does to post within the UK so a 7" single shouldn't be costing any more than £4 postage wise, of course you have to take into account the cost of packing materials, but that's pennies.
  24. One here if it's any good? https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=866353&ev=mb
