  1. Hi Yaw'll. Just pulled this out and give it a spin. Got it years ago and I'd like to know if anyone else has it or heard it? It's an excellent modern Northern mid tempo dancer, and I love it. It's by Alan Anthony and it's called 'If I could turn back the hands of time'. have a listen. Listen here.
  2. Sue, do you remember me from Leeds? Steve Luigi, used to go to the Torch, Casino, Mecca etc. with Pete Dylon, Dave Maltas, Chris Mallows, Mouse, Steve Midgley and Bub from Barnsley, I was the one who came second in the comp at the casino and also at Cleethorpes pier. used to know you quite well. have a look at this site, there is a picture of me from back in the day. Northern website WOW! good to hear you're still into it all. Steve
  3. I remember Boopa from the Torch, I will never forget the time when I was invited to dance in his circle, that was a REAL acheivement! GOD! that was about 30 years and 40,000 fags ago LOL
  4. 'I go to pieces' Geri Granger always does it for me, and 'You hit me (right where it hurt me) - Kim Weston version, far more feeling in it than the Alice Clark version, and what a stunning voice.
  5. What we 'oldies' have to understand, is that although the tracks that we call oldies were played to death in the 70s/80s, the 'new kids on the block' may never have heard them, so they will seem new to them. It's called the progression of the scene. There are lots of 'underplayed' records out there that could do wiith a 'reactivation' if this is the correct term. I myself believe that if a record didn't stand the test of time back in the day by only being played for a few weeks, they can't be a memorable as the ones that still get hammered after 30 years or so. Saying that, times and tastes do change and some tracks that were not popular back then, might sound a lot better now on hearing them years later. Only my opinion though.
  6. Yes that's the one, top tune even if Yazz did mess it up, why can't the be original insted of ripping off other peoples music, and that goes for most of the dance music scene today, not Northern though. There's no originality anymore, that's why Northern is so pure, all original.
  7. Just pulled out and Ep compiled by 'Coldcut' and it has a track on by Otis Clay called 'The only way is up', It's a real modern Northern dancer, very Meccaesque, anyone know of it or anything about it? Just noticed that it is on Manship's list for $350 about £175ish. Must be reasonably obscure.
  8. The funniest thing is that he says it's original LOL, obviously a no hoper
  9. Yes I thought so, here is the copy of 'Space shuttle' that includes 'The Bottle', came out in 1990 on 'Castle communications' records (GIL TY 003). Not the drunken mix, starts of with the count up in french, full version though. Sorry about the Blurredness, was having a shufty at the same time .
  10. ...and the most international record ever, it's been played on the Northern scene, the Jazz funk scene and the House scene, and it's still being played to this day. MASSIVE!!!
  11. They're worth as much as people want to pay for them .
  12. Did the track also came out an the 'B' side of 'Space shuttle'?, I have it on a promo 12", seem to think it was but without hunting for it for an hour I can't remember.
  13. Thank you for that peeps, there is a realy nice northern tune on the album 'Hurry up and wait', actually better than the title track. So it's worth keeping anyway. There is one track that is only on an album that i absolutely adore, I'm sure that Ian D will know it, and I'm sure it did get played once or twice in the early days, Mecca I think. It's by 'Dionne Warwick' and it's called 'Once you hit the road' on the 'Track of the cat' album. What a supurb track it is and one of my 'unknown' favorites of all time. Does anyone know of it?
  14. Let me know your approximate value please?
  15. And 'Champagne' records 12" single. worth about £30, and this must be the most expensive copy I've ever seen of this record, check this out. https://www1.gemm.com/item/GIL--SCOTT--HERO...E/GML760481718/ Either a mistake or a p**s take
  16. Can anyone give me an idea of how much a white label promo album of 'The Originals - Down to love town' would be worth and is it rare or not? The cat number is STML 12054. I know the general release album is not that rare and not worth too much, just with it being a promo copy. It has a plain white label and a plain paper sleeve. had it years actually but just curious. Thanks for any help.
  17. Thanks for that Ian, yes I though it was time to dust of the old records and start playing them again to the masses , have you seen my Myspace page? https://www.myspace.com.soulfull_1 ? There is a photo on there that i found in a drawer at home of the 'Central' If you look in the distance, you can see 'Ian Dewhirst' on the DJ stand :-). York was a top place, i remeber going there with Swish and writing off my car, happy days . Used to fancy a girl from York too from erm? Acomb, that's it. Nice girl, took her out once or twice. can't remember her name though, there's so many (yeah right) LOL
  18. You're right, I am now 53 and have been on the scene for well over 30 years and i still love Northern more than any other music. It was the likes of us (oldies) who paved the way for the young 'ns to listen to it today. They shouldn't be writing the older folks on the scene off, if anything, they should be thanking us for keeping it going for so long for them to carry it on. Things do change and so does the music style, but to me the old tunes will always be the best, played out or not. Steve
  19. Don't worry they are out there. At a club that i went to in Leeds last week (Leeds seventeen Restaurant) there was a lad there who can't have been more than 17-18. Top dancer, danced all night and looked the part. I am now 53, my daughter is 13 and she know's the words to loads of Northern tunes simply by me playing them, she is not forced and listens to other stuff on her ipod etc. She even said to me once "Why don't new records sound like this" and "Why do I like Northern Soul Dad?" my answer was "Why do you think you like Northern Soul?" and she replied "because they are real songs". So there ya go, the new generation of Soulies are waiting til they are old enough to go to the nights. I remember when i used to go to the Casino, I said to someone there "They're getting younger" meaning the crowd, he replied "No, we're getting older mate" He was right, there are always a younger generation that will carry on the beloved music, how can it ever die? simple, it never will!
  20. Hi folks, I'm after a tune that i have never owned in all the years that I have been collecting. It is by 'Ila van' and the title is 'You made me this way' Anyone know it or know of a copy for sale anywhere? Thanks
