  1. Just got an Original blue copy of 'Lou Johnson - Unsatisfied' from the states. After waiting 1 month for it to arrive, and also having to write to the seller to ask where it was (they'd forgotten to post it), it arrived this morning wrapped in one thin piece of cardboard, fastened with sellotape and sent half way across the world. Needless to say, when I opened it, the record was cracked right the way across, knackered. What a damn waste of an original record of this calibre. Doesn't it make you angry that some people don't respect what they are selling? Anyway, avoid like the plague this Ebay seller. rodneyw9904 Gutted!!!
  2. Which part of the last page are you refering to?
  3. 100% correct Nik Mak. As mentioned earlier on in the thread, there HAS to be a prefix to describe the style of House music it is. The term 'House' could refer to a hundred different styles these days, 'Hard House, Funky House, Vocal House, Electro House, progressive House, Deep House, Tech House, and so on. The more 'Soulful' house styles are Garage, Soulful House, Deep House and Gospel House. There are so many artistes that fit into these catagories, Kenny Bobien, Masters at work, CeCe Rogers, Frankie Knuckles, SuSu Bobien, Kim English, Barbara Tucker, Dawn Tallman and literally 100s of others. and one of the best Soulful House voices without a doubt, 'Robert Owens'
  4. Ian, you ok? Just tried the link to have a listen at the track, but the link is down for maintainance apparently. Is there an alternative link where I could have an earfull? Look after matey. Steve
  5. 'West End' records, what a label! Peech boys, Brenda taylor (BT) ans 'Raw Silk - Do it to the music' now there's a classic track. 6. Ah well, I was right about the history of the styles of music, but geography has never been my strongest subject.
  7. Yes I DJ'd with Eric about 4 years ago, VERY tallented person and an all round top geezer to boot.
  8. I'm sure you all know this already, but the terms 'Garage' and 'House' stem from the names of the clubs where they're styles were supposedly first played, 'Garage' from 'Paradise Garage' and 'House' from the New York wareHOUSE' One club played deeper more soulfull house than the other, hence the different terms for each style to differenciate which was which, a bit like Northern, Southern and Newies. Unfortunately we need prefixes to explain, without actually explaining what style we are refering to. When I opened my first record shop in Leeds in 1988, customers could come in and ask for 'House' or 'Garage', and we'd instantly know what they wanted. But then all of the pigeon holes sprang up and we had to virtually have a f**king questionaire for them to fill in so that we knew what they wanted. Steve
  9. Yes, was listening to Kenny Bobien about 4 years ago. He is classed as a 'Garage' vocalist really, as 'Garage' is the deeper, more soulful side of House music. Great voice, and quality tunes. Also try having a listen to a guy called 'CeCe Rogers', said to have the best male vocal voice on the House/Garage scene. CeCe Rogers - Someday Well spotted.
  10. Just recieved a mint copy of 'Susan Maughan - That other place' through the post. What a fabulous version this is. Really pleased I found one, they seem to be getting quite scarce. I managed to pick this one up for £14 and I think it's worth every penny and more besides. I know it wasn't one of Susans big hits so not sure how many of this sold on it's release in 1964? 'That other place' is actually the 'B' side, with 'Little things mean a lot' on the 'A'. I spent around 2 months looking for a mint copy, so don't think it's that readily available. Any thoughts on this fantastic female version of the 'Wade Flemmons' classic? Thanks

  12. Yes that's true, I've picked up a few lately just by sheer 'determination' (nothing to do with Dean Parrish - Boom Boom) Like the original copy of 'Dust my broom - Ike and Tina on tangerine 'Tangerine' records for £8, and 'Judy Clay - you busted my mind' on 'US Scepter' demo for £5.25, and of course, paid a bit more for this one 'The Apollas - Mr Creator' on 'US Warner' demo for £25. But I think the the best 2 I've won were 'Solomon King - This Beautiful day - UK Columbia Demo for £25, later sold for £109, and Pookie Hudson - This get's to me' on Original white and gold 'US Jamie', for £9, sold later for £119. At the end of the day it's all down to the time you're willing to put into looking for them, and of course, knowing where to look. Thank you for your kind words and invaluble advise Steve
  13. Just looked on JM's site and it's going for £30, not too bad then, I'm £25 up on the deal.
  14. Yes that's mine, Thanks Matey, what is the value of the original blue copy? can I afford to retire?
  15. How many colours was this booted in then? I've see them in Blue, and the one below is the one that I have now, I have just bought one on the bay (an original) for a poultry amount, £5.25p.
  16. Just having my daily fix on Ebay and saw this. Whata top tune, but over £2000? Jeez. Must be bloody rare then? Junior McCants - Try me for a new love
  17. So how will I be able to tell the difference as to wether it is a boot or an orig'? i.e. matrix numbers, label material/design, run out etc? It looks to me from the link above to 'Sharp end of vinyl' that it is an original, as it is not a paper label, the run out is not very narrow and as on the other originals shown on there has a plastic ring around the inside of the centre after the label ends. Please let me know. Thank you
  18. Excellent, thanks for your help everyone. Just bought it for £7 on the Bay, i should imagine it's worth that? £11 inc postage from the states, am I ok on that price please. OH! and what a top tune innit? Thank you all again Steve
  19. Hi there, can anyone let me know if this is an original press please. 'Unsatisfied' is on the 'B'? side. Thank you.
  20. Just bought this off the bay for a measly £2.99 after thinking I remembered it from back in the day, probably a Mecca tune? The tune is 'Johnny Williams - Something kinda mellow b/w You make me wanna last forever' 1974 on UK Polydor records. I did remember rightly, and I used to have it years ago, a really nice modern track and the 'B' side is also modern although it has more of an oldies twinge to it. anyone know of this track and is it or has it been played out anywhere lately? Thanks for your expertise. Steve
  21. Can someone please let me know if these are the same record 'A little togetherness'? Thank you Younghearts - A Little Togetherness/Begining Of The End - Canterbury 506 Younghearts - Little Togetherness/Get Lonely Too - Minit 32084
  22. Well it's all looking hunky dory then cos I paid £25 for this one from a guy in the states. Strangely enough he'd had no bids on it and there was only a couple of hours to go, so I approached him and offered him £25 and he exepted. Bonus!!!
  23. Usually Demos are worth more, or go for more because allegedly there are fewer of them, but not always the case of course.
  24. I take it we're all talking about demo copies here? Up to now It's looking good for the price I paid BTW
  25. Hi again peeps. can someone please value this for me. I bought it a while ago at what I thought was a bargain price. I'll tell the truth, the other side 'All sold out' is paggered, but the 'Mr Creator' side plays well, but I thought that a demo of it was well worth what I paid. I won't say what I paid until later on in the thread after you've all had a go Thanks Steve
