Thanks for all the info guys, its been great finding out way more than just the lyrics. I can remember John Poole telling me he was in talks with the Magnetics to appear at Prestatyn and for a split second I didn't know which Magnetics I would of preferred. Lets be honest Lady in Green, Heart your made of stone and (Volumes) Aint Gonna give you up are all top class. But can you imagine if it was the Magnetics were discussing here. Hard choice - Mick
  2. Dear Boat Friends, It is with great regret we have to inform you that we must cancel our Christmas event. Unfortunately we have been in contact with the COVID virus which is raging throughout the country at the moment and do not want to be responsible for passing this on to our friends. Christmas is around the corner and your health and well-being is our primary concern. Sincere apologies from the whole team. We would like to thank you for your fantastic support for our events this year, you really made them special. We wish you a very merry and healthy Christmas and look forward to seeing you at the Boat for more great soul nights in 2022. Mick, Lisa, Max, Alex and Nick
  3. Just spoke to Simon Richard and unfortunately he won't be able to dj for us this time. But with Mick H, John Poole Alex Gallegher and myself all there to look after the sounds we are known for, were sure you wont be disappointed. We will sort out a date next year for Simon. I've had a few calls asking if this is a ticket event - No - pay on the door as always. Hope to see you there - Regards Mick.

I’m sure I had a Stafford orientated cd with soul inc on and it said it was c/u as Mel Britt back in the day. Not sure if it was legit or not.
  6. I have the pleasure of arranging djs for the Boat Club, Nottingham (not the nighter) I had booked a great line-up IMO but Covid had other idea's Ted Massey - Ashley Fellows - John Parker - John Poole - Simon Richards - Hammie - Dave Raistrick - Simon Hunt - Mick Taylor - Nige Brown - Mick H - Chris Dolton. I've tried getting Sean Chapman but no joy also tried persuading Andy Rix to no avail. All the above know there stuff and wont disappoint unless you want same old same old.

Hi Andy - I didn't think we were gonna get that first line but I recon your right. I can remember the Lou Pride hand written lyrics you posted years back, that also put me right in one place. Thanks - Mick

Just something that's been bugging me for a long time and today became the day to ask. No prompting needed. Must add that surprisingly I can hear the lyrics better on a mobile phone than on a desktop or is that just because I now know them. 😄

  14. As soon as I read that there isn’t a raised number under the label I instantly thought bootleg. But looking at the pic I have to say is certainly looks like the real deal. (Strange label flat line at the bottom ) Mines packed away at the moment so can’t check runout for you but fingers crossed.

Professionals - just flip it over and enjoy.
  16. When Gwen came to the UK she brought 4 issues with her to sell (copies she claimed back from her family) Two copies had identical marking in the runout and two were completely different to to each other. So there must of been at least 3 runs pressed. This may explain why some originals had the jump and others didn't.

Couldn't agree more with Patto. Trip back from Devon meant I only seen the last 3 djs - Dave, wow what records this guy has. Nev finished the night with many monster sounds. For me the big surprise was Rob Smith, Ive known Rob for about three hundred years and seen him dj a thousand times. At the Byron he totally shocked me with the amount of top quality tune he played - track after track of sheer quality. Think ill have to book him for the Boat soon. Well done guy's - Roll on next time - Regards Mick

  21. Had a day at Val's about 15 years ago. Had to carry some racking up to the top floor and that allowed me behind the counter to search. There were 4 or 5 floors completely stacked floor to ceiling of records and main floors had been arranged in label order. Lots of box quantities on lower end stuff. Bought 60ish records from him, he threw them into piles of $5 - $10 & $20 then added them up. No price guide or computer in sight. He also had loads of artist promotional photos but not for sale. Met a record dealer on 2nd floor whom lived within 10 miles of me in Nottingham. (couldn't make it up) If you get the chance to go - Grab it.
