  1. If you are talking large sums you really shouldn't give them the goods before they have paid for them , basic rules of credit control . Now if you are enticing those pure little collectors by saying take the record home listen to it pay me later well .... to be honest you are heading for a fall eventually and taking a big risk, even if they are friends. In the economic climate we are all living in. People don't know if they have a job from one week to the next and really shouldn't buy records unless they have the money in hand. But you are a collector and you know the pull when someone dangles something you have been searching for for quite sometime. The decent thing would be for them to give you the record back if they cannot pay for it. Only yesterday I committed myself to a record from a friend not a large sum of money but then I have spent alot on my bathroom this month. He wants to send me the record but I have purposly not sent him my address. I will have it when I can pay for it at the end of the month. Simples Bead counter to the stars
  2. Darcy said .. .imo dj's should learn to say NO if the venue in question is not what they're about (the dj).... -------------------- That is a very good point , if you know it won't suit your plays ...don't take the booking
  3. And another thingy....the week gets worse by the way ... my angel has vanished ? Ok that Dj .... to expand on Mike Cog's point 90% of them travelled 100's of miles paid for their own petrol and sometimes accomodation too , plus add to that if they are doing the job correctly arrive early to hear what is being played to then spin their yarns to sometimes abuse fron one person that hasn't heard his fave tune , sometimes it spills on the net ohmy goodness he played Pyramid ! to then be paid a small amount to then have to question what they play for you ? Bloodyhell who would want to be a Dj ? I wouldn't stone the bleedin crows or what ! I think their is scope for union rep don't you ?
  4. Then as each record is played the database will be checked and if it is found that the dj is playing a record that nobody likes or that no one in the venue knows, a trap door will open on the stage under the dj. The dj will then be castigated to the flames of hell for eternity where they will be forced to listen to loop of the top 500 for the rest of their damnation. I think this is so funny , thank you for making laugh Actually I wouldn't say the Rhino stinks ... he's just a bit smelly for me lol , sorry you caught me on rag week I am normally an
  5. oh Maria sorry did I make you home sick . Wouldn't it be nice if we got these on over here ... Incognito went down so well at P last year ... I am sure these could do the same. I am still on cloud 9 hearing the Hesitations are on next year... sorry going off at a tangent . I think you and I are goin to be reaching for the hankies next March.
  6. eeeem I really don't see what the difference is between me uploading a sound having it removed and for then for you to put a pretty green picture up with a facility to play the same sound ... I think I have just been bamboooozeled I suppose it's a technicality ? tell me does the artist get a royalty for each listen from the utube source?
  7. Phil you can catch it on u-tube along with other stuff by the Bamboos with other featured artists ..sorry mate you will have to do your own diggin. Red eye records in Australia will help you source the record on 7" if youlike it that much. Godzilla .... you know me better ! but respect the groups policy
  8. Here you go mate - enjoy nice with ham and eggs .. I bet you start to move

Can't stop playing it It pays to stay in and be a hound dog snififn the net on a saturday night ...really chuffed with this Carms
  10. You know there is one really good solution to this, requests are handled by the team that run the do , the residents. I am of the mind the invited DJ is there to show you what works for him/her and may work for you. Easy peasy you get the best of both worlds . I also think a request box is a good policy avoids people who haven't got a clue what they want distracting a dj whilst they are playing for a start.....eeeem it goes like this eeeem eeeeeeeeeemeeeeeeee and its a male ...no its a group. One the funiest instances of this I have ever heard is when a really sweet lady asked for an instrumental who didn't know the artist PML. She was a screem and we still have a laugh about it now. We always look out for her and have a laugh about it. Sometimes you get people coming up who are a little drunk and sway all over the place , even make the records jump.... keep people away from the decks I say some are very expansive and should be treated with respect. And Finally let your guest Dj show you what they are hopefully very capable at weaving together for your general entertainment and others ....He or she will judge the situation and determine if something is working or not. I wish people were more tolerant too , think about what it's like when you are asked to play something different or in a certain style of play ... and someone comes up and says got any Michael Jackson ? how do you answer that ? You could be nice and just say sorry left it at home , or say yeah later and forget... Or give them a funny look and tell them to do one ? Grant I would have been honest and told you the Rhino stinks not my thing at all , I only play what I think is good and if you don't like my style don't book me. You might think that is arrogant but at least its the TRUTH lol
  11. Hi ALison ... can I join you ..where is my afro icon ? I still love beginning of the end Funky Nassau and also Bobby Byrd You know you got soul ...remember the MC I do have a selectionof about 8 records in my collection that give me a funk injection now and then. The soul sister ....Marva Whitney's Unwind yourself is in there for sure. and defo some Spanky Wilson Kissing my love . Actially I think that slower version of Pat & the neurotics is quite funky ..fits nice in a funk set as does Koffi's you build a wall between us. Carms
  12. Iv PMd yas just in case Yes! Thats the baby! Email me on nigeokeh@aol.com and wel sort it if PMs are no good Thanks for gettin back to me Nige B
  13. Anything by Alvin Cash and it won't set you back more than a tenner , actually I have just picked up a nice Calvin Arnold .... Lovely way to go for ten dollars thanks to finding an old Jim Bates tape which reminded me to buy this one, would mix in well with a bit of boogaloo.
  14. I am very confused now ? so what you are saying is as well as the charity not having to pay tax , the giver gets a tax benefit too? Actually I didn't send a gift aid cert with the cheque mentione above, I am thinking more on the lines of when we have the entrance monies from the do we are putting on. Are you saying I should get each person to sign a gift aid certificate?
  15. Thanks everyone for trying to clear this up. I have been on the BHF website , and actually have had a lovely letter from them thanking me for the the cheque I sent , that I recieved frm Cathy & Pete Lister towards the special day fund. The BHF have a gift aid certificate which can be downloaded , this must be available for all charities. The way I read it as long as the person giving the monies has paid the same value in tax over the last tax year this then allows the sum collected to be free of tax deduction once received by the charity. So anyone collecting from special events needs to consquider getting a gift aid cert , cause it really does bump up the proceeds... or stop the tax man getting his/her hands on a portion of it.
  16. As you know we have a charity event coming up and I would like to know a little bit more about stopping the tax man being able to take his chunk out of of what is collected. Seeing all sorts of charity events listed oin here I thought it might be a good topic to debate. Did you know that if you submit a special form with your donation you stop the tax man getting aound 11% (i think ) tax revenue out of it ? As this event has no overheads I want to make sure every penny we collect gets to the British Heart foundation so I am eager to get this in place. What I want to know is can I fill in one form for the total collected from the door and the raffle ..as me being the giver, or do I need to arrange for every person to fill in a form that pays an entrance fee to stop the tax man grabbing a chunk?
  17. Please PM me if you have one for sale . Thanks
