Northernsoul Fisticuffs
Simon if we look at this objectively concidering how many soul do's are happening every weekend the likelyhood of violence is very small. There are drunk and sometimes just plain aggressive people without a drink in all walks of life , even of the "soul scene" yes we are not all whiter than white . I think in the years that i have been souling I have only ever seen a fight once ! and that involved two women ... I hasten to add the men did not seperate them because they were enjoying the spectacle. I would imagine that a lot of self policing goes on , there are some strong fella's on the scene that don't have to shout the odds to make their mark. So in answer to your question... NO its always been there , you just never noticed it IMHO

Deloris Ealy - I've Been Looking (Velvet)
I do hope you you eventually receive it . Has the same seller listed the one that is on ebay at the moment ? I think its a little strange if its the case that he has two copies of a record for sale in a matter of weeks when Flynny says he has only seen 3 copies in 20 odd years ?

New! - Ian Levine's Solid Soul Sensations Podcast Episode 6
I will add full credit for the effort it creating podcast and really putting his head on the block for what he believes in , it is easy to judge not so easy to put the effort in and produce something to debate and lay yourself wide open to an alternative view . At the end of the day its our own personal opinion on whether he hits the spot for us individually. As always I would l aways advocate make your own mind up.

New! - Ian Levine's Solid Soul Sensations Podcast Episode 6
I listened to some of these in the car on the way to York last night and i am afraid i must rank low on the taste ladder because i didn't find the tracks I heard in the car at all soulfully inspiring i counted around 3 tracks that were to my taste on pods 3 and 4. There is no doubt Ian has a great passion in what he plays ,and he delivers the sounds to his audience exceptionally well , but I am afraid this time around the standard of the tunes selected in the main that i heard on pods 3 and 4 were not for me at all. But the upside was that it made what i eventually heard played at the York soul club sound like heaven to my ears , sounds more to my taste that were elevated even more so after having two hours of what was to me not up to the very high bench mark that is progressive soul as i personally know and perceive of it today.

When A Dislike Turns Into A Like
Wondered if many of you have ever started out not liking a record and then eventualy liking it ? I had a problem with Guitar Ray years ago I found the record so depressing I just could not appreciate it at all , kept thinking of someone going down into the cellar and hanging himslef with the laundry .... but I now really like hearing it and watching so many others always singing along to it . Do you have one that made you turn around so to speak ?

Carrie Cleveland
I would go back and get it Flynny , it will do until you get one with less of the Rolf Harris effect:) look at Brenda Jones and the twangy guitar ... we have all grown to accept the twangs now

Carrie Cleveland
My copy is the one where the organ is pronounced and although at first the organ did make me grind my teeth . I have grown to love it for what it is , Nige passed it to me because he could not tolerate the organ I played it last year at Skeggy and it sounded pretty good loud , others liked it .

Photogrpahy At Northern Soul Events
I had the pleasure of going to a photgraphic exhibition last weekend in Lythem St Annes and it did cross my mind watching two elderly people in a room looking at pictures from their youth on a video screen , the smiles on thier faces showed much pleasure, obviously they could identify a memory with the images that had been selected for show. How lovely it would be to one day see a Soulphoto exhibition

Northern Soul - The Film - Latest news - June 2012
We popped in to KGH on saturday afternoon on the way back from the coast , caught a great photgraphic exhibition at Lythem St Anns had a bite to eat and arrived at Blackburn around 2pm to a very hot and sticky film set . Must say the atmosphere at floor leval was fantastic , spotted many talented dancers , possibly the best concentration of great dancers I have ever seen. It was a great experience. Also caught sight of many friends , too many to mention individually. Sorry I missed Sue Parker Brent looked awesome in his "Bouncers" suit and I was very impressed with the attention to detail down to loads of ashtrays full of fag ends. The heat on the set was unbareable , it was great to go upstairs and watch from above . Heard that the Dj decks are the original decks ! The guy (actor) playing the Dj was brilliant , remember that thing you used to do when you had long hair with a center parting, how you sort keep smoothing the sides down and pushing the hair curtains back , well he got that motion off to a T. and as for the guy that took the lead when the the three walk in .... Nige tells me it was an image of Nige Shaw ! His attitude and manner was identicle. I could be wrong .... this is a constructive comment ...maybe the balcony shot is a faded distance type of shot and scenes are incorporated within it ? BUT I will say I think they may need to re-think the filiming of balcony though to make it look more authentic they could have done with some young actors intermingled in the crowd above , I would guess at the time not everybody just stood there and stared at the floor as we were all doing :)I would imagine people did record deals from small boxes and mates hugged each other when spotted in the balcony area because they had been missed down below , people smoked and had a laugh upstairs too ? ..... not everyone was positioned to look eyes out front if you know what I mean ? I didn't go to Wigan Casino , so I could be right off the mark , perhaps someone could elaborate what went on upstairs ? I think 99% of us were shocked to hear we were within shooting range if thats the right terminology ? We found that we could not go to Blackburn and miss a revisit to that much loved club Tonys Empress , which is literally five minutes around the corner, can't express how it felt to be stood at that shutter and imagine climbing those steps behind it again , surprised to see the paving stone with Tonys on it , never noticed that before ? Sad to see its not in use by anyone anymore ?
