  1. oh I doubt i will ever own one now knowing its rare , it came as a dissapointment when I played the flip to Standing on solid ground thinking this was it and then finding out it wasn't. I should have Known really. That must have been lovely for him to hear Flynny , lovely version , be nice to hear it out .
  2. Ok found it on Blue Cat and Red Bird are they both the same ?
  3. Personally I would find this vote much more interesting if it were on the front page of the site and open to anyone that visits the site regardless of whether they are a member. But I know that would be asking too much and that it is not achievable , plus it would appear to me that it really isn't a concern to most. I myself was interested in the general publics vote you see , I knew we would reach the conclusion we have reached as it stands because in the main the greater percentage thathave voted collect dj or promote , but the other statistic was the one that i am really unsure about and would have liked to have seen. thanks to all concerned that have voted
  4. Was this released ? the slower version Imean , not the the flip to standing on guard which is over killed with Mr Levines instrumentation in my view , this is much slower and in my opionion much more moody soulful cut. I must say I am preferring this to Jerry Cook , as Jerry is a bit fast for me nowadays,
  5. The Variations 12.00 dollars of uptempo magic I wanna take you uptown
  6. Thanks for being honest Mike I was starting to feel like I had broken one of the ten comandments for just questioning the general sence of opinion within this thread by asking if it would be useful to put it to a public vote and avoid all this going round in circles.
  7. I would just like to make a point of order here , I have not had a dig at anyone on this topic , all I SUGGESTED was a vote /poll
  8. lol why do I feel like i have ventured into the forbidden zone they are only questions , nobody is going to ask you to change your own private preference ? Don't you want to hear other peoples opinions , or is this more about declaring your own interest/view ?
  9. As in all debates usually this is the way to get your accurate answer , but you must take into account its a SS poll and could be different to the general public , sorry if it offends you personally Jocko but this is the only way to get the answer to the question asked and it also avoids any indifferences personal comments against any individuals , as it is such an emotive subject.
  10. Well lets ask for a moderator to do one for us ? I htink its important to identify if a collector or a dancer is answering the question. Dj's would fall into the collector catagory. Are you a collector ? Are you a dancer ? Are you a dancer and a collector Will you dance to bootlegs ? Will you dance to a carver if the record is unissued ? Must it be an original for you to dance to it ? Are you not bothered either way ?
  11. Why not have a poll on the subject , it would be interesting to see the paying customer ( dancer ) point of view on this, because as a collector your view is going to point to originals only. Be good to see the numbers that take an interest too responding to a very important question , perhaps times are a changing and its not as important to the mass attenndance as it used to be ? Personally I can understand wanting to protect an over £1000 investment , we could look at it another way inorder to play these records with safety maybe it would be better to stop people coming to the decks and also to make sure a good standard of equipment is enforced/checked before such records are played ? Have you ever spun with a needle that has a coin on it for example ? What causes needle burn , is that down to bad equipment ? Just remembered when Dave Rimmer was waiting to go on , he had pulled a numbe rof records to play on the slant and another dj came on stage leaned on the table and all Daves records fell backwards .... it was a cringing moment I can tell you.
  12. I have listened to both versions now and I prefer the PJ version , I guess its because it was the first version I had heard , the male version is nice though . I love the intro and the way it builds , nice tune , have to hear it Loud , its a great tempo too I would imagine a great sound to dance to that won't make you feel like you need resucitation after it . thanks for the info Just noticed I have now reached my 1000 posts yeeah pat on the back must have earned me a second toggle by now ?
  13. No I hadn't , thanks Flynny I shall now go and listen .... oooooh two tunes on utube and both dont get beyond the intro so I guess I wont be hearing it there ....
  14. I tell you when I lived in Colchester it would have been so nice to have somewhere in town that i could get to with little expense and share with like minded souls my passion of this music , so I can understand why there are so many satalite do's now ... in my mind thats a positive , Its like marketing a product you need to be seen everywhere to reach the new people. I do think some on here make sweeping generalizations that the scene is suffering , how would they know that a certain do failed made those that attended unhappy if they themselves were not present at these do's that coincide with someone else ten miles away ? You see to some people they don't need a massive crowd they are quite happy to have ten people in a room if overheads are low and they dont make a loss , thats why they survive I guess ? I have yet to hear someone say to me I am having a shite nite because this room isnt heaving ... I think this sort statement is more likely to come from someone that is promoting and maybe not covered their costs to be honest. The end isn't nigh ... its thriving and has grown in ten years and thats something to admire , the main benifits are being in a good geographical place. I live in Manchester within the North West and in my opinion it is still the soul capitol that from its history has spawned some of the best most innovative Dj's today , many of them are not big stars but all the same they have such a great soul tolerance and thirst for a soulful adventure a small gathering with these types of people pleases me . A massive crowd for me is not a priority ? Its a bit like being with friends or aquaintences , thats the difference between a small and large crowd. I know which one I prefer
  15. Keyboard warriors great term , did make me laugh I feel like I have sneaked in while they are all sleeping tonight lol some great ideaology in many of Andys words.
  16. Cheers Boba I managed to source one on ebay yesterday
  17. My god reel to reel I quite forgot how technology has moved on , and my mothers much polished radiogram , loved how you could pile up four or five records and the automatically dropped and played. I feel quite old now . I cringe when I think how we abused the records , some of those needles were well dodgy.
  18. Simon that is such a lovely story , did make me smile you were lucky to have been influensed by some very interesting and kind characters , and it shows mate
  19. Anyone got any info on this artist ? a nice 70's type tune which has got stuck in my head this week, in the end I had to source one , but must say never heard of this artist ?
  20. Still can't get my head around what is so wrong with someone putting a do on locally? These do's attract people you don't generally see anywhere else so what harm are they doing ? Its Saturday night and I want to have a proper drink , be nice to hear some soul , anything other than watching the TV would be good... thankfully a taxi ride away someone has invited like minded people to play/share some sounds..... Its a no brainer really ? a bit like going to a local pub for a beer. why is that so wrong ?
  21. Lol I do recall having my radio on the window ledge listening to the top twenty count down and wanting the whole street to hear it , god what a pain eh ? I would have to say soul came to my door by accident , to this day I don't know how Motown chartbusters got into my Dads record collection , but that was the start for me hearing those fab LP's , also he had Marvin Tammi's If I could build my world around you on 45 ... I used to love this sound , still do today . I loved hearing it down the 100 club once very early in the morning. Kind of made it special God I wish my Dad was alive today to ask him how they got there ?
  22. Do you remember what it was and do you still get a thrill about remembering going to the record shop to buy it ? Looking where it was in the charts. Can't be the same for youngsters today just downloading it from the net ? The trip on the bus into town, meeting up with your mates , being dressed in all your best togs , going to the coffee bar , playing the jukebox and then going to the record shop ! Sad thing is I can't remember mine I do recall my first 45 was called ... Rag Mama Rag but sadly I can't recall what my first soul purchase was ? Can you ?
  23. I do wonder sometimes when some of you were young and in your lets say third year of soulin , did you ever grumble or complain about the "scene" I am of the mind that if so many are surviving each and everyone of these events must be hitting the spot for someone , so that could be a good thing ? Also seems to me that some of you do have your Eutopia in the events that you promote or dj at , yet you still get very worried about everyone else ? why why why ? no one else seems to care so why do you ? This place resembles the grumpy men in the balcony on the muppet show at times ...just my opinion
  24. Oh Mexico , that could be a tall order , you will have to start a night yourself and hope it catches on Good Luck
  25. Oh you spoilt my fun Tony I was going to make him waste hours in there , loads of records but not many 60's one's . I guess someone has alreadty beeeeeeeeeeen
