  1. Me and my big mouth thanks for your kind words Nev , Nige has told me after having it a bloody fornight that he has a CD from you to me .... can't believe he has only just remembered he has got it , and he still has it in Stafford ! Antony I hope you have sucess in getting your record.
  2. Thank you so much for putting the e-mail address up Irish spinner . I have sent my e-mail to them this morning , lets hope many follow as a mark of respect for the cultural heritage of what this building has meant to many and what it may mean to future visitors to one of the most soulful cities in the world. Lets hope and we make an impression thats is one for all and all for one. PS I didn't use the letter I made it personal , post the request on facebook and get people around the WORLD that you know to send them an e-mail . I also asked him to read the book Central 1179 , which might give him some indication as to why people CARE . If anyone has a spare copy , please offer to send it to him , he needs to see he has an added attraction that other hotels in the city do not have.
  3. Hi Antony You being from Antwerp ...you might like R&B ?, as many do over there , excuse my ignorance if not . I have got shit loads of R&B a whole box which I would swap your FS if you are interested plus it would come to the best of homes and I would polish and smile at it every day and it would save me spending all that money so I could feed my 8 starving children. Come on folks you can't blame me for trying..... Well it worked to get me Larry Laster from that lovely American chap
  4. I find it really sad that people on here think its a big joke , lets pour petrol on the fire and watch it burn .... where is your respect for those that were doing it when you was still at primary school or maybe not even out of nappies. My sadness is for those people that stil love the place , they are losing something that feels very special to them , yes you can move the sounds to another location , but its still a sadness for them very much like losing your first love for many. You could at least show some compassion for that alone. They made the faith .... you keep it so have some respect !
  5. For the doubters , take a trip down there on Sunday at least once before you pass judgement , the atmosphere is something else , many people you see there you see nowhere else or maybe they are the ORIGINALS out to party to sounds you hear nowhere else .. the roots the sound of STAX which is forgotten in many other places . Believe it or not I have heard stuff down there that I didn't know existed ... I shall be chippin away at the piece of wheel on Sunday before its lost forever.
  6. Wow.... That aint no reason is new to me and is very nice thank you for posting it up . I have come to the conclusion they could sing anything and would sound good
  7. Lovely Derek I have it on British , one of the records I bought off Brian when we parted a few years back at 50 bloody quid , but since that I have become a great fan of the Esquires , love their version of "Woman" and I do currently like to play State Fair , which I believe has a cracking flip side ( Thanks Terry Fin ) which I still have not played. Along with You got the Power ... cheap as chips and brilliant . Yes one of my fave artists
  8. I must confess I don't really like the original demo version , it sounds more like Jazz to my ears .... The grey Imprint is pure soul to my ears ... but again thats a matter of opinion and I am just a pleb what would I know no doubt there are many that prefer the writers version.
  9. Thanks Martyn . I will show you mine the next time i see you
  10. Oh thanks for this I really would love to read it again , can you still get copies from Howard ? Is there a contact e-mail ? I remember getting Clive to play it on the radio , It was so nice to hear it on the airwaves and to get information on them . I suppose I felt good about giving them a little recognition be it 30 years too late be it on Clives show. I will never forget thow I felt when I first held a copy at Whitby (Tim Browns sales) ... only a collector would understand that feeling I loved the sound then and I still love it now , I guess its a matter of taste , we can't all like the same things can we ? Thats what makes us all individuals . I just know that sound was special to me and when I hear it well it sends shivers up my spine , just like pookie Hudson does for others lol where as Pookie makes me cringe . Nev you have to allow Peggy some slack , he likes to throw himself frantically around a room .... this sound is for the slower appetite he will get there one day ...we all do
  11. I couldn't find a grapevine issue ? ...... but I found the LP that Kev talks of , and picked it up at bargain price ! so thank you Kev if I could Kiss you I would xxx
  12. If anyone should find the article written in soul up north can you please send me a copy - I wrote the article when I was hooked by the tune I had to find out more about it and spoke to many on the net about it ( Soulful detroit , The rare soul forum were two ref points ) , I lost my copy when I moved up North . The tale tracks my findings/research when I was trying to find out about the members in the band . The lead singer was called Victor and I was told he was in the airforce , did the singing thing on the side. I would love to read it again . The record is a masterpiece of soul history the lyrics are so emotive ... if it grabs you it grabs you BIG time , I love the fact the other side is called the other side
