  1. I heard it wasn't on this year
  2. No need for a poll Chalks , I just wanted peoples views on it. and we have had a great response to the question. I get the impression most people understand that people that do leave early are no light weights , they just have a different set of priorities depending on their own circumstances at the time. I think I might play a trick on you all at skegy and sleep in until 3am and then pop in as fresh as a daisy and stay to the end lol
  3. Lol you don't know how funny that is Steve , turn the music up lol oh Browny I know what you meant x
  4. Paul you wanna try arriving in London and making a crazy commitment to visit your friend at St Katherines having just landed from the North " Souling " on Marathon day,,,,,, Never again ! Tower Bridge was something else .
  5. I must admit I can't get my head around this dignity in tact thing . And I know where you are coming from on it , I do understand those feelings. I think that a promoter is only too glad that you supported his or her night . I wouldn'd think and ill of anyone leaving before the end . We are all grown up and some have more commitments than others . Some have children and hard jobs and some are not in 100 % good health , some may like to get home to do other things It doesn't make things easy I know when you do leave early , cause it feels like you walking the gauntlet sometimes lol because many are outside smoking you can't really crawl out on your belly lol I say hold your head up high and bugger what anyone else thinks
  6. I am selling a superb pair of second hand already broken in/worn in brogues , just like these in this picture. A new pair would cost you around 170.00 pounds . I am selling a pair for just 70.00 pounds plus P&P I can aslo furnish you with a picture of the actual shoes. They are top quality an absolute dream to dance in and are a size 7 If interested PM me , they are mens shoes but women can wear them too ( I did ) purchased from camden lock on the retro market.
  7. BBC 4 is top channel for me I just love it ! The stuff they put on is so intersting , not just the music but the films too and the educational sid eof things too. The run they had about great photographers had me on the edge of my seat. I would say I watch this channel the most
  8. Hi Phil , thats great , glad to read you had a great success with Samantha's. I guess its a personal thing really I loved Lifeline , the music was just out of this world for me , but I knew my limitations , I couldn't have stayed more than I did , faced with the journey home and what I needed to do the next day I know when to draw the line , that has come with years of practice Also I am finding it depends what time you get to the venue , I like to catch the earlier spots so by 2am I have usually been there 6 hours already which is more than enough for me. I reckon if I arrived at 1am I could probibly make it to 7am
  9. Macca I bet its great leaving a club in Spain in the early hours of the morning , I can just see that lovely sunrise . I would have to go back a few years to recall staying to the very end , being ushered out of Tonys by the old lady sweeping up , then getting to the B&B , climbing the stairs on my knees for three hours sleep to then do a 6 hour journey back to Essex ! I used to love the twilight hours att the 100 because I always felt Ady was a master at the cool off , bringing you down to that relaxed state after a frantic night of dancing . What I do recall at Tonys was it took an absolute age getting out of the venue at Tonys , it was like a mass hugathon, and everyone danced the last dance !
  10. Just interested in the statistic ,are there many people out there that like to be at a nighter to the very end ? on a regular basis . I suppose a promoter is more equipt to answer this question , do you see a large mass on thr floor when the lights go up ? ( they have to be standing Percentge wise 100 50 20 10 ?
  11. lol ... when I saw the title I thought pleeeeeeease not that again lol . I see you you are new to posting in the forum , and I take on board that you are quite innocent in asking this question. We go through this every year , you can't ask that question and get a non biased answer. Its impossible each poster will be biased to their own needs. Please save us from the tit for tat that can happen with threads like this and do the research on the internet and compare what is on offer in each town that suits your speciifc needs they are both great weekenders and if you are lucky enough to afford it I would suggest you do both. You could also look at playlists for the two events for last year and then make a sound judgement... or do one this year and do the other one next year . I always trust my own judgement , a weekender is a big financial commitment so trust your own instinct ..plus you have to think of your partners needs too Good luck and whatever you choose I hope its an enjoyable break.
  12. Thats right Mace he doesn't do the internet , the last discussion I had with him about his Danny was that he wouldn't sell it ....but you know everything has a price and I am sure if you threw enough money at him he might at least think about it , depends how much the buyer wants it . If you are serious about making him an offer there are ways to get in touch with him ... I would start at the last selling price and then double it mate , then you might just get more than his attention.
  13. What do you think about these second chance offers ? are they a bit of con ? I placed a bid on a record , and happened to mention the artist on here , then all of a sudden I see i get outbid ... didn't really bother me because it wasn't something I would generally play out . And I have since managed to get the tracks in MP3 format. Anyway I get the notice that I didn't win it , I was out bid , and then in a very shot space of time I get a second chance offer from the seller . To me it smacks of there was no real other party wanting this record , if there was they didn't get much chance to pay for it ? the second chance offer came a little too quick.
  14. It inspired me to go forward 10 /20 years . I get so wrapped up in 60's rare soul I forget that some good came out of black artists beyond 1979 . I left By all means behind so to speak , today I have rekindled an ear for someone I had also forgotten about Al Broomfield , Freddy Jackson , Alexander Oniel. I wouldn't have done that If had not watched last nights disco. I know you will find it hard to understand , but its personal to me ...and it did. sometimes images or sounds have a sort of indirect domino effect , they make you think and give you little sparks of memories ...the disco thing lead me into thinking of another time. I guess we all have forgotten Albums ... I have been trying to remember for years the Al Broomfield surrender album , could I remember his name ? Kept thinking he was a bobby somebody ...today I found it whilst clawing through By all means on utube... along with Badusium )) So last nights viewing had a positive result for me ...
  15. Well I really enjoyed it , I never expected too much , I was surprised by the fact disco was born out of the gay scene , I thought the gay community embraced it , but wasn't aware its roots came from it? To me disco was just an evolution a hybrid of black music. I really liked seeing the emotions , they looked so energetic singing with what had to be the showmen of disco Earth wind and fire. What was missing ? The Uk disco scene ... Tavaras, the Ojays even ..Cool and gang , underground disco like Jackie Moores this time baby , GQ disco nights , make my dream a reality . I don't think the non commercail stuff got much of a mentionand really that was the best of disco. Also who remembers the disco dancing championships.... I bet a certain Dj cringes when he is reminded of these The programme did inspire me to ask Nige to order the Philly CD ( thanks Ian) and also see if I could still get an old album I used to have by a band called By All means... which I did I also loved seeing Car wash being sung some singers just ooooooooze soul don't they . I think the death of disco was when they lost the real instruments and it went "Euro" and it was manufactured with synths and booms and bleeps from out of space. But on the whole it made a saturday more interestng than normal on the box... better than Quiz shows and competion TV.
  16. It was entertaining . Enjoyed the brief Philly footage
  17. This did make me smile Perdita you telling PTP how to use ebay .... he is a mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmega anorak ( lol ) just goes to show we all have something still to learn .
  18. I think a lot of the remarks which tend to come from the same source are pathetic. Some no mark who thinks he can add the odd one liner so many times on here to just make trouble , he knows best in all things .... trouble junky waving his hardcore flag , well lets face it thats the only thing thats ever gonna get hard in his life. ... I would like to see him do half what you do Nige .. best thing to do with that sort is ignore them ...... end of you don't need to justify anything to anyone . This post could cost me a life .... but hey ho it will be worth it
  19. I personally welcome mini nighters ( 3-am finish) because that few hours getting home earlier makes such a difference to my ageing bones. Plus I have a difficult job to hold down so I need to keep clear head if I want to keep bread on the table. I can't afford to lose Sunday just to recover. But I am easy going if you want to stay until 7am thats your choice .. just respect mine , surley some of you have better things to do than act as the soul police and watch what I time people leave ? really that is sad . Plus you can have the most brilliant Ooooooooooooooooooola la moment at 4am
  20. Hi Campy first of all chill out man , nobody is demanding anything , we are just having a debate horses for courses what suits some wont suit others so accept everyones view and have a happy Sunday Some like to look at labels , my opinion is it does look cool when the Dj is up there playing those sounds and you see those big A's on a green stateside demo wizzing around It adds to the vibe , but yes I take your point not everyone can do this which is why I said tthat its happening in the BIG HALLS ....it would be silly to suggest all soul do's should or would operate in this manner. And I do have a life ... a bloody great one thank you
  21. That very true Tone , ( said in a two Ronnies style ) I have known the best of dealers get caught out when selling something as an orignalwhen it is in fact a very good copy , unless you are an anorak you won't know if its an original , issue or boot when it is playing that is ...well unless its obvious and it has no label or one that says ...F.......k off and mind your own business ( I have seen these ) lol some are very rude and show ladies in lets say not very savory positions . The other thing you could do is have John Manships guide fixed under your arm wherever you may go or have the priveledged position of having a mate that is besotted with numbers and a photographic memory. Now things are changing the screens are coming ! so everyone can see what is on the turntable . I have seen these applied at Phils do's ( Stockport) and also they are in play at Goldsoul events , you know the big halls .... so I guess promoters are trying to take a step in the "original direction" the rest us up to the punter really.
  22. Well if I had brass in pocket I would snap Fanc's hand off .... an awesome record, in fact my current No1 , this would be worth starving all year to have in your collection.
  23. It would make a nice 100 anniversary record wouldn't it , as we all got to hear about it from the very place .... go on you know it makes sence
